Welcome to the most recent few submissions / clarifications, and I will officially call this post the 24 hour warning before closing up the gates to applications.

I'll have any questions from reviewing up either tomorrow or Saturday and look to finalizing the party before Monday rolls around again.

Ah, and here I was, thinking: Will she or will she not? :-P

Sounds good. Twigs here. I feel like my submission was a little rushed considering how much time recruitment was open. I'm looking forward to the questions as an opportunity to polish things up.

The crunch is finished, but not yet set in stone. As it stands, my familiar can use disable device. However if any prospective skill monkeys are really set on lockpicking duty, I won't try to overshadow them with a literal skill monkey, tempting as that may be. I've done everything but his items. I want the time to be extra pedantic about it and cram as much arabian nights flavor as I can into a handy haversack.

Officially bowing out of this one, having a bit of trouble with inspiration and I think I have a few too many things on the go to take on another campaign of this size. Have fun guys!

Still here. Finding a profile picture is hard... There are no women with hajib, nor are there any with burns.

The Exchange

You could always pick an avatar with a face turned sideways or covered up and claim the unseen part is burned.

Apologies, SurplusRaine; it sounds as if my character pitch has some similarities to yours. I didn't read any of the other submissions.

That said, now that I've looked at your description, there are some undead avatars that bear some resemblance to what lies beneath the veil, though they're probably a little gory. Here is one with a mask rather than a veil. This one has a crimson hood with blackened skin beneath. This and this have something of a gauzy quality that would allow for the presence of burns while still being somewhat conventionally attractive. This one is veiled (albeit in black) but has pretty eyes; similarly with Reiko.

Yeah avatars are tricky. Surprisingly few samurai-ish ones or good sovereign dragons too. So bare with this one. ; P

Even with the volume of new ones they've added, the further you get from humans, dwarves, and elves or core classes the more challenging.

Do you have any idea how many of the female gnomes are Lini?! :)

Fortunately, Trig is a master of many guises so I guess she can just change up the avatar now and again to reflect it :)

I feel ya, sister. Take a guess at how many of the male halflings are Lem! :p

And that shall be the gates officially closed - I've had one of those days at work, but once ensconced back at home with chidlets asleep I'll stroll through the apps and get the questions out.

As to limited avatars... I've always found a dearth of decent Mwangi ones personally.

Carywl's last name is Zarsteg by the way.

Khol Karis:
What about the bureaucracy does he find stifling?

F. Castor:
No questions come to mind.

Twigs:
No questions come to mind.

Udaya Udas:
No questions come to mind.

Airon87 - Rodrin Rustbeard:
As an inquisitor - does he have any theological differences with typical Abadarin doctrine? - or was the class choice primarily a mechanical one?

Antal al-Besir:
Does he venerate a particular deity?

Fahada Salib:
No questions come to mind

Gregory Paltaris:
What gave his bloodline the tiefling taint?

Tiasar:
How does the half-drow nature manifest in his appearance? - and how does he either keep it hidden or justify it to avoid undue persecution?

Hilde Alfborne - Tharn Blightfang:
I like the idea, and I'll be sending you a PM over the weekend to discuss in a bit more depth.

Trig Thistlethorp:
No questions come to mind.

nomadicc - Siddig al'Basheer:
What business is the family in? - as in what trade goods do they generally carry?

Nerak Sersver:
Apologies for not getting to your mount question earlier - I'd be open to most things, but would rule out anything that flies.

Given he's an oriental derived samurai - where did he get the o-yoroi armor and katana?

Joana - Kif:
Does she ride? - and if so, what sort of horse?

VoV:
Cool. Just to be clear, UU is a Paladin/Inquisitor and will likely be increasing those classes relatively equally from now on. I think the Inquisitor levels kind of explain her 'maverick' actions.

DM:
Imagine diluting the dark skin of a drow with water. And his hair is a very light blonde. It's not really easy to hide without completely drawing a hood up, although I suppose some might guess that he looks like an odd fetchling. Not much can be done about people making assumptions of him, but if ever confronted some of his arguments include "Born by two races but raised by humans. I share the dark elf's appearance and nothing more." and also "I'm a military man, and you can hold me by the honor of one." He tries to avoid opening his mouth unless there is something important to say.

Im thinking its one of those times where there is no obvious demonic taint. Likely it is a distant relative of his fathers, whose tiefling nature was never mentioned to his grandfather. I feel if the origin had been known, his grandfather would have looked to that to went his anger. With noone to easily blame for the misfortune of a tiefling heir, all his grandfathers anger at the situation was directed at Gregory.

VoV:

Yeah I has thinking of a flying mount which is why I asked. I will look over grounded mounts that are desert theme and get back in a bit.

As for where he got his gear. Katapesh is the largest market there is and you can buy just about anything, so he did. If that is to simple an answer I could work out the details. After all any merchant ships from Goka in Tian Xia would pass Katapesh even if they were headed to Absalom. In Nerak's case his o-yoroi, katana, and wakizashi were custom made for him in Katapesh. O-yoroi are always custom work so did not have a choice concerning that one, not that he would have it any other way. While his katana is based off Shizuru symbolism, his wakizashi is based off Tsukiyo and Qi Zhong symbolism. There is a reason for that as well in his rough unwritten backstory.

Sorry for the long answer and such but I don't really put in meaningless details most of the time. Most things tie into his past or have a story behind them. Makes him more for a lack of better term human to me.

DmVov:
Is there anything you would see changed? Anything you're not fond of?

VoV:

Here are mounts I am considering, let me know if any are disallowed. Giant Cheetah, Dire Hyena, Giant Scorpion, and Dire Wolf.

DMVoV:
The al'Basheer trade in primarily finished goods from Katapesh. They cover a wide variety, including furniture, carpets, metals, weapons, small animals, spices and tea. Siddig's oldest brother has some exclusive supplies of magical items. Their father strictly prohibits drugs or contraband, but Siddig has occasionally dabbled in these illicit goods to make a small profit off the books. They don't produce their own materiel, but have contracts with several craftsmen in the city.

DM VotV:
Inquisitors are investigators, operatives, the hands-on part of the church. That’s what he is. The class mechanics fit the concept. He protects trade routes and caravans from mon-sters, he investigates dishonest merchants and thieves. That says inquisitor to me.

The doctrine is somewhat different from usual, yes. First of all, he will most likely be LG instead of LN. Trade and business are means to an end, and said end is a civilized and prosperous world. There’s no place for merciless profiteering in his book; Abadar may encourage a ruthless business-man, exploiting loopholes in the name of gain, but Rodrin does not. Competition is good, but civili-ty and honesty are paramount.
He’ll have a background as an artisan’s apprentice (I was thinking a jeweler) and be a somewhat capable tradesman himself. He is capable of making an honest profit, and reprimands those whose resort to tricks.

Great minds think alike, or something like that. Or rather... I guess neither of us are quite as original as we thought, hah. It's funny that they ended up in such a similar place, though I guess the Dawnflower-heavy setting kind of begged this sort of character as a balance. I'm actually glad that there's someone else who thinks that it'd make for some great narrative possibilities.

Best of luck, either way.

VoV:
Also Kienyach will be maxing out intimidate, which can help some of the time. If some drunk guy in a tavern starts talking then Kienyach will growl some threat at him, but if a noble or a wealthy merchant says something he'll just grit his teeth and deal with it.

Silver Crusade

DM:
He has a personal trinity of sorts.

The Serpentine Blades were widely admired in his part of town, considering their stance on slavery, and he wanted nothing more than to join their gleaming ranks.

Though being a young, crippled halfling he had little chance of that, until his extraordinary abilities got him noticed. I'm also taking the Prophetic Visionary feat, as I think it would be an interesting vehicle for you to provide us with vague, threatening imagery.

So his miraculous healing powers/oracular visions have certainly led him to believe he is imbued with divine will, and so he is quite devout. Albeit, in his own way and on his own terms. He relies on Abadar to be fair, Imoedae to be just, and Saraenrae to be merciful. As a minor leader of mercenaries, a keeper of the peace, and as an ender of suffering, he draws strength from a variety of inspirational sources.

VoV:

Just let me know if you do wind up with any questions.

DM:
I don't think she rides particularly well, which is probably a bit unusual in Katapesh. But if she habitually rode, she'd outpace her dog. So I think she rides when necessary but generally prefers to be on foot and closer to the ground, so as not to miss tracks or other signs of passage that might be passed too quickly and at too great a distance on horseback. As I have her stats roughed up right now, if I throw a skill point in Ride, it gives her a +8, which is enough to keep her in the saddle of a combat-trained mount when necessary without being overly comfortable with it. She'd have to use a "borrowed" mount from a stable; I wouldn't think she'd have a horse of her own. At any rate, she'd think of a mount pretty dispassionately as a means of getting from one place to another; all her emotional connection is spent on her Animal Companion.

Ok - finally got a chance to put those waiting out of their realatively sedate anticipation and confirm those that will be moving on to the PbP proper.

I'll have the discussion thread up shortly for the following:

  • Twigs - Erasmes Yasir Ibn Amin - Human Evoker / Merchant staying at Gilded Dreams
  • Airon87 - Rodrin Rustbeard - Dwarf Inquisitor of Abadar / New Market Guard
  • Khepri of the Dawn - Human Paladin of the Dawnflower
  • SurplusRaine - Farah Ashbel - Bladebound Magus / Serpentine Blade
  • Joana - Kif - Human Ranger / Outrider from Fort Longjaw
  • nomadicc - Siddig al'Basheer - Human Rogue / Trade Guild

All of the others, thankyou for your interest in this little project of mine - and sorry that I couldn't accommodate more. If there are any drop outs or such, I'll come back here to snaffle someone else.

The Exchange

Darn, better luck next time. Have fun guys!

Bummer. Have a great time everyone!

Aww yeah. This is shaping up to be an interesting-looking game. Will polish off this stat-block. I think it's just equipment left.

Congratulations to all selected! Have fun!

Enjoy the game, guys!
