Wareagle, I'm curious why Rhome was flat-footed? He was warned and not blind. We were all prepared to be attacked. It's not like he was caught off guard.
Also, how come so many of them can attack him. Aren't we on narrow stairs with only one approach direction?

Only one attacked most were acro rolls fot teh dogs my bad if that is confusing.
A character who has not yet acted during a combat is flat-footed, not yet reacting normally to the situation. A flat-footed character loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) and cannot make attacks of opportunity. Fogive me if this rule does not a apply in pathfinder I am very new to the rules. (Only been playing since October.)

No you're correct, I would be flat footed. however, my FF AC in my Character sheet is actually wrong, Which is my fault. I had Org. Created the Charcter w/ only leather armor, but felt it would be too much of a handy cap to the party, so I added the Chain shirt + heavy shield. I have corrected it at this point, AC18, T12, FF16.
I don't mind continuing forward with me taking the hit, And next time my AC will be correct.

I've been reviewing this issue and trying to make sense out of what seems (to me) to be a hiccup in the system. There seems to be no mechanic for being "ready for combat". Even two boxers facing off in the ring, under PF mechanics, one of them would get a "free shot" at the start of combat, no matter what, despite the fact that they are both obviously ready and aware of the impending fight.
So, it turns out you're right. Rhome was flat-footed and even though he could hear and see the dogs coming.
But there is a silver lining. Readied actions.
We can ready actions outside of combat. If Rhome said "I ready an action to go Full Defensive at the first sign of threat" or Cru says "I ready an action to shoot the first threatening target I see." those actions will resolve first when combat actually starts. (before initiative is even rolled)
So if we are moving slowly and carefully with actions readied, we can keep ourselves from being bum-rushed again. Won't save us against traps or stealthy critters, but should blunt the hell out of direct attacks.
I recommend that we all have a "default readied action" for moving through the dungeon.
