I'll be away in nature next weekend, Friday (4/25) evening to Sunday (4/26) late afternoon, US/Pacific time). I'll have signal but phone posting will be spotty. I'll catch up and resume regular posting Sunday evening.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

We should be okay, since Boodiddly goes after us and it's for the first attack we make before his next turn.
Also, reminder that I have vital beacon up in case anyone needs some emergency HP.
A very good point thank you!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Another really rough day :(
I'll try to get a post in later if I can, but I make no promises.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I have lost track of how long the day has been, but if it's been a long day do folks want a rest and a chance to prepare for ghosty things? or climbs?
Y'all have not rested whatsoever since arriving in Neruzavin, for the record. And without going deep into the weeds, I'd figure it's getting pretty late in the day.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Yes, I've been wondering when we might get a rest. The ol' prepared spells are starting to run low.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Shohreh’s player has been going through some stuff, so it might be a bit before they can post again.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Sorry to hear. I hope things get better for them soon.
Would you like one of us to take over botting duties for a time?

Shohreh Kassar |

I think that would probably be a good idea for the future, thank you! I should be back for now, though. <3

Boodiddly |

Thanks for the bot GM! Wouldn't Fortuitous Shift have reduced the damage from the spell by 13 too? The spell's damage doesn't have a type, but the feat doesn't care about damage types (it just says "resistance to all damage"). It seems a little odd to combine the damages (the spell doesn't have any text like Sneak Attack's precision damage), but I suppose it's also kinda odd to treat a "null" type as a type, so...?

Shohreh Kassar |

That's how I'm reading the section on Resistance, yeah.
It's possible to have resistance to all damage. When an effect deals damage of multiple types and you have resistance to all damage, apply the resistance to each type of damage separately. If an attack would deal 7 slashing damage and 4 fire damage, resistance 5 to all damage would reduce the slashing damage to 2 and negate the fire damage entirely.

Fair enough. I’ve got it in my notes for future rounds.

Adding on to my previous post: it'll also resist the 3 fire damage her Strike deals as well.
Also, quick tangent: since Spellstrike itself does not have the concentrate/manipulate trait, I'm gonna rule that if Kolgradd manages to disrupt the spell on a Spellstrike, it doesn't also disrupt the, y'know, Strike part of the Spellstrike. It's a bit weird, but that's what I'm going with.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. Can I Boulder Roll an Incorporeal creature? It's not technically a strength-based Check as there's no Check, but it's a close neighbour in requiring a save against a strength-based DC.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I’m…gonna go with no. Definitely a weird corner case, though.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

FYI: I will be away in nature (specifically on a river and out of cell range) and unable to post starting Friday evening 5/23 through Monday evening 5/26 (US/Pacific time). Being a weekend, I hope this minimizes the disruption and I will resume posting that Monday evening (5/26).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Not only is it a weekend, it’s PaizoCon weekend, so it definitely won’t disrupt anything XD

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Yeah... I intend to one day skip this trip and actually attend :D

Shohreh Kassar |

Heads up that I will be traveling from June 10th through June 17th. I very much doubt I'll be able to get any posts in during that time!

Jevar Shadowmantle |

None of my MAJOR* travel falls during that time, so I will be able to support with consistent bot'ing then.
(*there is one weekend camping trip, but not to any remote place and not a very intense activity so I'd probably even be able to post over that weekend).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

As I mentioned previously: This weekend is PaizoCon, and because of that I will be VERY busy. So do not expect any posting from me starting tomorrow (5/23) through to Monday (5/26).

Forgive my ignorance here. I've read the massive infodump again and I'm a bit confused about the role of Xhamen-Dor and The King in Yellow. Lowls became infected by Xhamen-Dor and wanted to bring about his return, and Xhamen-Dor is trapped in Neruzivan. Why then did Lowls come to Neruzivan and leave to go to Carcosa? Is Xhamen-Dor the thing in the lake? If I'm not supposed to know the answer to these questions that's fine, but if I'm just failing at reading comprehension please take pity
This is something I actually didn’t fully realize myself. So, the thing in the lake is Xhamen-Dor from when he fell to Golarion during Earthfall. Similarly, Lowls has basically been incubating a new form of Xhamen-Dor inside of him. So there’s basically two Xhamen-Dors—one dormant (but stirring) in the lake, and one active within Lowls.
As for why he went to Carcosa: it’s because Xhamen-Dor’s purpose is to increase Carcosa and empower Hastur. He went to Carcosa to basically offer Golarion to the King in Yellow, because there’s one last thing I didn’t actually realize: the Star Stelae have one more step in their purpose: the ones on Carcosa must then be activated and told to start the process of Carcosa cannibalizing cities. So Lowls went to finalize that part of it.

Are there specific rolls to find desired info and avoid side effects? Are we bringing back the sanity subsystem? :D
So, part of the difficulty is that I haven’t zero clue how to actually represent diminishing sanity without using my REALLY flawed and frustrating sanity system from way back when. In 1e, studying the Necronomicon caused Wis. and Cha. drain (Wis. and Cha. damage on a successful save), so the obvious conversion is stupefied, but stupefied is so significantly more difficult to deal with and it absolutely decimates casters (which makes very little sense, since the Necronomicon is meant to double as a spellbook). Add in the complication that y’all aren’t necessarily trying to get ALL of the book’s secrets, just some specific rituals. So I’m honestly unsure how to go about converting it in a way that doesn’t just amount to “roleplay Jevar’s slipping sanity,” but I honestly think that that might be the only way. Because, based on my understanding of y’all’s characters, you guys aren’t the kind of people to purposefully delve into this kind of stuff unless you have to (unlike Lowls), so I think I have something in mind. I just have to put words to paper, which I’ll probably be able to get to later today.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

> roleplay Jevar’s slipping sanity,”
I can do my best to do this.
> you guys aren’t the kind of people to purposefully delve into this kind of stuff unless you have to
Knowing the risks, that’s probably right. Outside of this saga Jevar is quite studious and can be intense, so he would be intellectually curious but also understand that it’s not worth giving up mental faculties.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'm heading off to the UK Games Expo shortly. I don't expect to be able to post until Monday, please bot me as necessary.
