Hinkle starts the ambush by unleashing a magical bolt of force that strikes unerringly against its target!
Followed by a dazzling burst of glittering dust that envelops everyone, causing both the peasants beating their fellow townsfolk to cry out while the erstwhile unfortunate soul rolls about in agony, holding his injured sides.
The other 3 townsfolk however turn dead looking eyes towards Ēoswulf as he barrels forth in an obvious challenge...........somehow creepier then it shuld be despite dust covering their eyes, they turn and face Ēoswulf directly.............

The two townsfolk now turn on Ēoswulf and strikes out at him with their simple implements of doom.

Presuming not intelligent, Maximos says, "Move Away"... then yells to the party, (presuming the dashed line one is not yet wounded, "Don't hit the one in red dashed line! He's under my control!"

shouldn't there be a fourth PC? And is this encounter scaled down for just 4 PCs?

Ēoswulf bellows in rage and lays in to his attacker with blade and spike. Then he takes a step back, shield and sword held ready.

Pregen... what do you think folks? either healing as that's always nice... or a damage dealer barbarian?

Probabely wasn't clear so I edited the map a bit to show which ones were are not in combat with party. Pink are not in combat with Party.

Maximos feels his spell settles on his target and then.......nothing.
He knows the spell was successfully cast but there seems to be no effect and it could only mean one thing.

Perhaps the Lem pregen?

Did it take both hits to take out a foe? Or did the shield bash miss the second foe? I'm presuming these things don't have more than 16hp...

I think Adowyn would be the most useful, but I suppose it would make sense to pick a CORE pregen. I like Lem for Inspire Courage. Is he that good of a pregen otherwise? I feel like either an archer (!) or another melee character (not Amiri) would be preferable. But Harsk is the only ranged character of the pregens, right? I remember thinking he was pretty poorly built. TL;DR Lem is probably.

you said bold is up, but none of us are bold; that just means you were waiting on Hinkle and Max to do their rolls, right?

Lem is also good for skill checks. I was also thinking of the rogue, but would rather have the inspire courage. Harsk is built to be a stationary turret.

Lem, Harsk or Seori would be good though Kyra is helpful.
Removed one foe because I Did Forget about scaling for 4 man party, transfered your damage to another but wasn't enough to bring it down. One hit miss.
Also this is a hard fight being a season 5 scenario.
And yes I was waiting for Hinkle and Max.

Hinkle discovers that though his spell landed, the acid leaves no discernable damage at all as if it was nothing more then water.

Two of the peasants throw up their arms in some sort of macabre glee, throwing out a net of negative energy. Will Save DC 16 for half or take full. It's clear to see that everyone other then those two are affected by the black threads that drain life from their surroundings, leaving them healthier.
Two of the attacking peasants writhe in agony while the others seems to be holding on wuite well despite the damage, their eyes turn pleadingly towards Ēoswulf.
Red and Cyan heals.

Ēoswulf slashes one down as he shoulder checks the other though he hits, he finds his spikes unable to sink in deeper then he would like.

A burst of healing energy comes forth from Hinkle, bringing some relief as it begins to mend wounds left by channeller.
Maximos on the other hand can only grit his teeth in fustration as his spell fizzles out as Lem strides in with an uplifting song to ad his companions having had to struggle on his short legs up the heal and arriving late.

The sole remaining creature once more unleashes tendrils of black draining energy trying to get as many as it can. Healing what it could while reveling in the shrieks of the peasants though one doesn't move at all.......

Hinkle winces from the negative energy and draws his wand as he steps in behind Ēoswulf. He says the command word and taps one of the more serious looking wounds on his Ulfen friend.

Brave Hinkle steps forward to heal his friend's wounds while a raging Ēoswulf attempts to silence the laughing fiend, opening a ghastly wound that sprays both red blood and black ichor and missing with his armor spike. It stumbles but looks as if it'll intends to cause more harm before its demise.

If he could hit them last time, he must be in range of the negative energy this time (though I think he's not on the map...

It seems that the party may have mistaken one gnome for another as their vision clears from a lull in combat revealing Geoclunicus !

The creature once more throws up its arms after taking a small hop to the side to avoid a dangerous Ēoswulf.....

Yes. Actually he does heal as he does that.

Maximos's shot misses as the creture ducks, its ritcus of a grin fixeson him.
It hisses as Hinkle channels healing energy once more though no one can miss the gleam in its eyes as all of its victims start breathing again once more, groaning in pain as they do. There is no doubt what it'd try to do once more.

I really need a flanking buddy...

Ēoswulf's first swing misses but his second doesn't however that spike encounters resistance as it does far less damage then expected.

The creature swings its own weapon in return! A rusty scythe followed by a bite as it tries its best to maul Ēoswulf!

Hinkle does what he does best as he attempts to channel healing to all the wounded. It is easy to see the creature before you in misshappen parody of a man is unaffected by it.

ok Let's just move on. The combat wouldn't last any longer anyway since he's out of his mass inflict light wounds. Lem comes running back lol

It takes little trouble but the party manages to dispatch the creature.

The remaining peasants fall to their knees with cries of joy, hope and gratefullness.
"Oh Praise to you and Iomedae! We are saved and can go home now!"

"This is a dangerous area. I cannot help but wonder what you are doing out here on your own." Hinkle asks the villagers after they have calmed down.

"We didn't have much of a choice. We were beset by friends long dead and some still alive but as if they were being directed against their won wills. Some of us didn't make the journey here and we didn't understand what those things were saying. And...And....When the bodies started giving out, the things hat crawled out...horrifying but we couldn't look away. Those things simply crawled into another body and 'used' it." The man rambles somemore but soon stops as his other companions nudge him.
Their eyes are still fearful but they seem confident in your abilities.

"You say, friends long dead... where were these long dead friends? Near your home in the cemetery? In the nearby abandoned village?"

One of the men mutely points to the bodies that the party brought down. On closer look those bodies with the slimy creatures in them have obviously being dead for some time.

Lem takes a look and goes green........

Ēoswulf's brow furrows. "I have never seen this before. Do any of you recognize this dark magic?" he says to his three companions.

It was sort of mini contest between Hinkle and the Vermlek. Channel vs Mass Inflict light wounds. So everyone's hp was going up and down like a yoyo.

"We will do our best to get you to safety. We do have other duties to attend though." If everyone is ready Hinkle will lead the survivors back to Sir Illivan to see which direction may be best to send them to safety.

"Oh no. We're fine by ourselves. I'm sure you must have somewhere else to be...." they wave off Hinkle's concern.

You do know that Sir Illivan would likely be waiting for you impatiently if he hasn't ridden off already.

Ēoswulf strides confidently back to Sir Illivan. He looks the man in the eye with conviction, but says nothing.

The cause of?

The party and Sir Ilivan continue to Fort Portolmaeus without any further incidents, following the River Road that climbs inland into low hills. When they’re few miles from the fort, the party spots a dark plume of smoke in the distance.
Sir Ilivan with a nod towards the direction, "There is it. Fort Portolmaeus."

Fort Portolmaeus sits on a tall rock outcropping in the West Sellen River, surrounded by rushing waters on three sides. A stout, stone bridge connects the fort to the river’s eastern bank, with a closed wooden drawbridge protecting the final approach. The keep itself is built of dark stone with tall curtain walls surrounding a squat central keep that peeks
out above the outer fortifications.
Portolmaeus has been the scene of a recent battle. Soldiers dressed in the colors of Mendev move around it making repairs, while others use carts to remove the bodies of humans and demons slain in the recent attack.

A group of four horsemen are swift to approach with arrows notched.
“Halt in the name of the Queen!”
"Hands away from your weapons." Sir Illivan orders all of you as he rides forward.
"“That the Black Prince might be redeemed”

Upon hearing this passphrase, the soldiers lower their weapons and grimly beckon the party forward. One of them step forward.
"I would tell well met but tidings are bad these days. I am Sir Morgan and what is your business here, pray tell."

Maximos whispers, "That phrase, our password, is a reference to the eighth act of Iomedae. "

”We are here to assess the extent of the recent attacks on the ward stones, and on the Fort. We are accessing the strength of the line to the south… we are scouting for enemy movements, and other signs of demon activity. What have you to report with regard to the strength of our defenses?”

Sir Morgan replies as he looks at the party up and down.
"We had a demon attack recently. Anything else you'd like to know had best be speaking with our Commander,Manaria Wardroxan."

He leads you to the gate.
At the closed drawbridge, Sir Morgan calls up to its defenders, and a moment later a soldier peers over a battlement and quietly stares at the party.

no evil items. The will save is optional? I don't know if I want to roll it or not... Can't say that Ēoswulf likes spells cast on him by strangers without his consent.
