I have one player that expressed interest in helping out. We'll be meeting for that rp group today.

GM Netherpongo |

Carson asked for a recap to catch him up to speed on the story. There are a ton of details, but for our present purposes I don't think we need to go into many of those. The broad outlines are:
Book 1: the party arrived as the second wave of colonists on Ancorato, an island in the lost lands of Azlant. When they arrived, the colony of Talmandor's Bounty was gone, and the colonists were missing. They found a few corpses, but not enough to account for the first colonists to arrive. Some exploration, and they did locate two living colonists but it didn't go very far toward explaining things. One of the two had been mind controlled and they had to kill the other because they were bad.
Book 2: exploration of the rest of Ancorato. They found signs of more missing colonists, but not very many. Handled a prominent threat on the island, but it didn't appear related to the disappearance of the colony. At the end of the book, a group of faceless stalkers started revealing themselves among the second wave of colonists. They had been posing in shapeshifter-like fashion as the people who were also gone. Everything ended in a big mess.
Book 3 (current book): tracking the faceless stalkers to a different island, Zanas-Tahn. More exploration, but they eventually tracked the faceless stalkers to an old temple of Amaznen, an ancient azlanti god of invention, magic and secret knowledge. The temple is half-submerged, and the location you are currently at is fully submerged. They've fought a lot of clockworks on the island but their primary opponents in the temple have been faceless stalkers (moreso in the dry part of the temple) and skum. They found a secret passage leading deeper and killed some insane and mutated former colonists.

Now that we have at least one backup player, I think we can proceed. I don't think we should just go with three PCs, and so I'll plan on playing the remaining PCs. If someone else wants to play a second PC, let me know. I've never been able to wrap my brains around shamans, but I probably don't have to get deep into shaman mechanics to finish up with Houghton.
Very tempted to bring Sarine in for the last bit, but not the current encounter since it's mostly started.

Carson was also asking about how to roll. He's semi-new to the forums. The forums mostly run on tags. If you need a refence, there should be a spoiler for 'How to format your text' below your posting box.
Bold is important for actual character speech & out of character tags are important for anything that isn't actually happening or being said. Use braces like [ and ] below instead of { and }. If I format it correctly, it will vanish the tags for us. Everything else will be the same.
{b}"You should drop your weapons"{/b} the mercenary said. = "You should drop your weapons" the mercenary said.
{ooc}A joke I'm making out of character.{/ooc} = A joke I'm making out of character.
Dice are rolled like:
{dice=Attack (power attack, inspire courage, iterative)}1d20+15-3+2-5{/dice} = Attack (power attack, inspire courage, iterative): 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 15 - 3 + 2 - 5 = 23
If you need to practice dice rolls or tags, feel free to post as much of it as you want in Discussion. If you preview a post, it will keep your rolls when you submit the post for real (almost always--sometimes the internet snarfs my stuff).

I'll plan on bringing Sarine in when this current encounter ends, then. We'll drop any non-played characters unless their actual players come back.

GM Netherpongo |

Aurelian: are you shorting yourself some on damage? I'm seeing:
+3 dexterity +2 enhancement +2 weapon specialization +2 weapon training +9 precision = +18
It doesn't particularly matter in this fight, but I thought I'd check now.

GM Netherpongo |

So that encounter is over. I think I'll have Sarine come in and Houghton/Invandi bow out. Aurelian's suggestion above was a good one. Any complaints?
I need to put a little time into figuring out how much of Tatienne's resources are expended. I'm assuming right now that the group will want to keep moving but if someone is running low on resources let me know.

GM Netherpongo |

I looked over what Tatienne has done since the last long rest, and it looks like our current impression is pretty close to right.
Before Tatienne 2.0 took over, I see:
14 rounds of Archaeologist's Luck used (this is kind of mushy. If Tatienne had more Luck used in her records, go with that)
1 Vanish used
1 Alter Self[/i] used
1 Haste used[/i]
There was one question about how much buff time would have been used in the discussion with Aoinse that I don't think ever really got resolved. There's a solid chance that her Alter Self would need to be replenished by now.
Anyway, that plus any resources Tatienne 2.0 used up is my best estimate of where she should be at.

GM Netherpongo |

An idea for our transition here:
Due to Invandi's condition the group decides to withdraw but at the entrance to the temple you meet Sarine and a group of marines from a ship that arrived at the colony. They reinforced the base camp back at the beach & came to help with the temple expedition.
Mechanically, I don't think Tatienne is down enough resources to force a rest (although that isn't my call).
For Tatienne: since it doesn't look like we're spending 8 hours right now to examine the machine, do you want to take-20 on the check to identify the evil-looking fish-thing you saw in the pin panel before it attacked?

GM Netherpongo |

Sorry for the delays in picking up after the New Year. I've been sick and harried over a couple of issues. Some of that is continuing but hopefully I'll be able to pull everything together again.

Aurelian Fache |

I'll be out of town Sunday through Friday. Back Saturday, though not quite sure how long it will take me to catch up with my games.

Aurelian Fache |

It's been a month since the last post. I think it's time to call the game. It's a shame we had so much turnover, since we had a great start, but I think we just couldn't sustain with all the departures. PBP is a momentum-based game, and having to constantly bring people in and out just was too much, IMO.
GM, I REALLY appreciate your efforts to keep it going and try to get us to a good ending, but I'm going to bow out. It was a pleasure playing with you as Sarine -- and with you, dien! -- and I hope we can find another game together sometime.

Zay |

Yeah, I was feeling it was probably time to call it too. It's unfortunate but the energy required to keep us moving is pretty clearly not here-- nobody's fault, just the way of it.
Mott, I really enjoyed playing with Aurelian's character and yes, hopefully we'll be in another game sometime!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I've been super bad about posting in all of my games this year. It's super frustrating since I was doing so well at the end of last year. Sorry I flubbed out at the end here.
If you see this and want a denoument, the only thing left was a battle with the aboleth and rescuing the remaining settlers.
It's fair to deem it done. Thanks for putting up with me!
