It's a very good thing Felix rolled well on that knowledge check as it's apparently immune to electricity.

Tatsuo frowns, considering the creature. "Are we sure that if we attack it it won't break what's inside? Although I suppose if we stick to ranged attacks, it's slow enough and this room is big enough for us to be able to stay out of it's reach while luring it away from the large hole in the ground."

In case battle breaks out, Tatsuo sends Sora out of the room and moves to be 30 feet away from the creature, prepared to pepper it to death with rays of frost.

When we attack it, it should try to engulf us which is really the only way it has of really harming us. It can only move fifteen feet so those of us at range should hit from there and the others should wait for it to come close to them then hit it and move back. It could hit the jars but I hope not and I can't think of any other way of getting the jars out. Felix moves back to 40 feet away from the cube as he talks and makes sure his musket is ready to fire.

Delkaneth shrugs his shoulders. "Then lets be quick so we can keep moving." With few weapons suited for fighting such a creature, he backs away a few steps to make room for the others as well as guard the rear.

"Actually, looking at it, it might not even fall in the chasm. I mean, it is wider than the gap. And if Mickey doesn't have any ranged attacks, he could probably use Felix's suggestion to attack. Just keep in mind that if it runs you over, it can try to engulf you, and it can move up to 30 feet."

Tatsuo waits for everybody to get ready and in position.

I'm not really sure how this is going to work once we attack. Do we just roll init? Does everybody get a surprise round? Just one person? If it's just one person, I tend to think Felix should initiate as his gun is going to do more damage than my ray of frost.

If we all get an action/don't want to wait for Felix, I will go ahead and roll my attack. He will then 5 ft step away.

Moving back to 50 feet away from the blob, Felix motions everyone to move back as far as they can while still hitting the thing. Then taking a steady breath Felix trains his musket at the blob and fires just after Tatsuo does.

Using Steady aim as move to increase range to 50 feet and firing as per normal

Inspired musket attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 91d12 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The musket misfires though. Dammed thing, I'll need to clear this out to attack again

The frost has definitely affected the ooze. it seems to stir and starts to look for a way to get at the group.

Well, this is rather awkward. I suppose I shouldn't have 5ft stepped away since now I'm out of range.

Tatsuo steps backwards again and prepares to fire at the blob when it moves closer.

Another 5ft step back, putting me 40 feet from the ooze, and then a readied action to shoot off another ray of frost if the creature comes within 30 feet.

Not throwing if theres a chance itll fall into the pit, but if the ooze crosses to our side Delkaneth will take a shot.

Sora's actually not in the room, so I just moved her to a corner and incapacitated her token.

Figuring that he hasn't yet run out of spells in a single day, Tatsuo shoots fire out of his hands before moving away.

The ooze bubbles and sizzles unpleasantly as it's engulfed in fire. Unfortunately, the smell isn't nearly as pleasant as the ozone that accompanies Tatsuo's normal attack of choice.

Errr, by any chance did someone accidentally move me on the map? I seem to be a lot closer than I remember being since I think I moved about 30ft away from the ooze last round. And my position kind of informs if I try to use Ray of Frost or Burning Hands...

I did so you would be in range for you burning hands. where you were you could not have even reached the ooze at all with the spell

I tried to place people where they would best be able to perform their posted actions.

Yeah, I was expecting us to avoid melee, so I moved far enough away that it probably wouldn't have been able to reach me to engulf. *shrugs* Oh well. I'll just have to wait until next round to be more effective against it.

Tatsuo moves slightly closer and shoots off another Ray of Frost.

The little zip of ice almost immediately vanishes into the still hot flesh of the ooze, barely cooling it off.

there is an onslaught of damage to the cubical ooze, but in the end Micky punches it to nothingness.

But Mickey's last punch seemed to almost have a negative effect. for just a second, he feels some sort of paralytic poison seep into his skin. fortunately his fortitude prevented it from working.

The cube is destroyed and the items contained within tumble to the ground.

you have two crystal jars that were recovered from the center of the cube. one crystal jar, which seems to contain yellow-orange vapors. The other jar contains a blue-green vapors.

Also in the cube, wrapped in a metal mesh, is a large great axe.

Delkaneth moves closer and re-examines the jars now that they have an unobstructed view. will cast DM again and take another look at them. Will also glance at the axe while it's active.

Don't know much about magic stuff.. Felix says, a bit disappointed in himself for his lack of skill. He does cycle through Detect Evil and Detect Chaos on the new items before settling on Detect Magic though.

While his companions study the jars, Tatsuo grabs a rock and idly tosses it across the chasm, trying to see if it was just the ooze blocking its path before.

In the probably likely even that those last two rolls don't identify the items, Tatsuo will come back to also study them.

Blue/Green jar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

The great axe is nothing more than well crafted. (masterwork) it is size large.

Both jars are made of some sort of crystal. the magic radiating from them is fairly strong. It seems unlike any magic you have seen before.

the best you can tell is that it some sort of binding spell of ancient Azlanti origin.

(it is a blend of magic jar, gaseous form, time stop, and permanency.)

your combined checks indicate that the crystal of the jar is the binding force of the magic.

"The axe is masterwork, but not magic. The jars seem to be part of some kind of ancient Azlanti binding spell. It's a mix of magic jar, gaseous form, time stop, and permanency. I don't really know anything about the Azlanti people, but that's some pretty hefty magic. More than I think we can handle right now anyway. I think opening the jars would probably not be a good idea."

Tatsuo pauses, glancing at the gnolls before lowering his voice even further. "And I'd rather not hand these over to our 'friends' outside."

Although without opening them, the only thing we seem to have left here is the underwater passage. And I'm not really sure how we would navigate that. Although I could summon an aquatic creature to try to explore it, I don't think we could actually communicate with said creature.

The pirate NeMoren had a wife. she was kidnapped by the witch Lissette and hidden away in this cave.

Peytro NeMoren, in a fit of anger locked Lisette and her brothers in the estate's vault to die.

After several years Peytro died and you were named his heirs.

You entered the vault found the undead Listesse. You learned that Peytro's wife was in this cave magically secure. As the last true NeMoren she can take charge of the estate.

On the way here, you learned that she may be in possession of a book that contains a map. this map is from an explorer known as Dairoo. The wizard Daresh seeks this map but said you can keep the rest of the journal.

You also know that you are in possession of half of a map, possibly the same map Daresh seeks.

key points to know:

1. the person you seek is named Amelia Lores
2. she was hidden away in this cave at least 5 years ago, maybe more.
3. She had to be magically imprisoned.
4. the may also be the cave of a Minotaur, but you have not found it.
5. Daresh is evil, but has not directly done anything against you or anyone you know.

In light of that recap, I'm revising my opinion.

Tatsuo pauses to reflect. "Actually, now that I think about it, it's possible Amelia is trapped in one of the jars. I'm guessing the guardian is in the other. Either way, if we open them, I suggest we have the axe somewhere else, so it can't grab it to use against us."

have I ever heard of this combination of inprisoning magics, or do I know how to get more info without just opening them?
