Attaching an eldritch tendril is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Attaching a set of tendrils (i.e. more than one) is a full round action. A creature can only be attached to one eldritch tendril at a time.
To attach an eldritch tendril the direlock must make a successful ranged touch attack against an unwilling creature. A direlock can then transfer a condition she is suffering from to another creature that is attached to one of her eldritch tendrils via her fearsome slough ability.
Once attached, if a connected creature moves beyond the range of the direlock’s dire zone, the connection is immediately severed, and the awful ripping away of the eldritch tendril causes considerable pain to the creature equal to 1d4 points of damage for every point of the direlock’s Charisma modifier.
Alternatively the direlock can attach an eldritch tendril to an ally – connecting an eldritch tendril to a willing creature requires no attack roll. Once this connection is made, the direlock may use an eldritch tendril to feed on one condition of the connected ally per round.
As a swift action, the direlock can consume one condition - the condition is completely removed from the ally and the direlock feeds upon its energy, regaining 1 hit point for each round remaining in the cowering, dazzled, shaken, sickened and staggered conditions.

@DMB - as a 5th level Fear Eater I know can cast 1 1st level spell - however I need a Grimoire* to cast any spells.
** spoiler omitted **
Here is the list of 1st level Direlock spells in case I come across one:
bleed, bungle, cause fear, confusion, lesser, daze, deathwatch, disguise self, doom, ghost sound, hideous laughter, interrogation, touch of...
I'm at work now so can't take a lot of time going through stuff. But off the top of my head daze and ghost sound are cantrips so I should have those. I might have disguise self but I don't remember for sure. Some of the spells you're looking for are from the college of Necromancy which is one of my opposition schools.
Update: I do have disguise self. I don't have daze. Enchantment is my other opposition school.

The text doesn't specify whether you can add spells from scrolls into your grimoire the way a wizard can. I assume your intent was that you can, though.
Thanks for finishing leveling so quickly:)

Level Up:
5 HP + 3 CON +1 HP favored class
+1 BAB
+0 all saves
+1 Customization Point
+2 PP from class and +1 PP from INT
+7 Skill pts
gained a feat, but haven't chosen one yet. should have that chosen no later than tomorrow.
Also, i got the Master Craftsman feat as a bonus feat from my class, so i can make magic weapons!
i just realized De was going for that feat (i think) but this feat was not something i picked, so i am not stepping on your toes on purpose! maybe the DM will let us finish things twice as fast.
well, upon looking at it again, seems i must also take either the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat, or the Craft Wondrous Item feat along with Master Craftsman. while Arms and Armor makes more sense for my character, then again maybe it doesnt since he makes his own psionically.
should i take Craft Wondrous as my feat? Then between De and I, we could be better-equipped!

@Sounds good Gemheart. Maybe you could make me a Grimoire… ;P
@DMB - it's more the lack of a Grimoire that is quite heavy and hard - unless we retcon it to say Yessai was already carrying one waiting to learn how to use it…maybe she jots down other stuff in it too...

![]() |

we should be able to use the join construction rules, finish items several times faster, or just work on separate projects, which also speeds up everything. i'm thinking of wondrous items, since thats more helpful to a skill monkey. as the warrior, kinda makes sense for you to have the arms and armor feat.
was moderation on a server for all of yesterday and am at work today, so i'll try to finish the level up by tomorrow.

I'd think if Yessai was training for a large portion of her life, and expected to learn spells at some point, she would have gotten a grimoire prior to entering the Pyramid.

Mundarion |

That makes sense. I should also point out that there's no need for a Wizard's spellbook to be a specific item purchased at a magic shop. I would think that the sort of paper used for spell scrolls would serve just as well and has proven to be findable in the pyramid. A "spellbook" written on scroll paper might be slightly more awkward to work with than an actual book, but should still be useable.

if this one double posts i'm throwing this phone at the wall, friend's phone or not...
With the objects in the pit, would the crafting material for items gem and i are thinking of making available? also, having looked at some feat related things, gem will have to be the main crafter for now, with me assisting, since i don't have the ability to take a crafting feat until 7th level... might have to forgo being a primary crafter...

EDIT: Apparently the phone sent my post twice, several hours apart... you know what, this is why i hate apple.
Pears are far better than apples. Oops, wrong kind of apple.
For mundane crafting components (e.g., the piece of mundane equipment that you want to turn into a magic item), you could get those in the pit easily. For expensive crafting material (i.e., the ingredients that make up the bulk of the cost of creating magic items), you won't be able to get those for free. However, many of the Pyramid's denizens do do magic (at least one in each faction in the Pyramid), so you could get material needed either through negotiation/trade/purchase, or from enemies you defeat.

alright, lvling up, i have to change two things at this level:
sneak attack +2d6 --> +3d6;
+9 skill ranks;
+1d8 ⇒ 2 HP
+1 feat
this level really doesn't do much for ninjas...
working again, should have the skills and feat assigned tomorrow morning.

![]() |

Alright:
Feat: point-blank shot
Skills: 5 ranks craft(weapons), 1 rank stealth, 4 ranks UMD
right, done, now to catch up with my moderating work... it just never ends once you start working, does it...

Update:
The malware was a browser hijacker. Malware Bytes, Adwcleaner, and Microsoft Scanner all failed to remove it. Adwcleaner could detect it, but not remove it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. It didn't help, but in the process I noticed that neither IE nor Chrome were affected; the problem was limited to firefox.
Then, I did a search and deleted all files with 'firefox' in their name, along with all files contained in folders with 'firefox' in their name. This included a few files designated as critical, which windows stores to remember that firefox was installed at one point. My suspicion was that adwcleaner had identified the malware inside one of the 'critical' files, but did not delete it due to being set not to alter critical files.
Then I reinstalled firefox and the problem was gone!
So, my problem is tentatively fixed. It is entirely possible that the hijacker is still somewhere on my computer, but latent. If it resurfaces, I'll format my hard-drive and do a clean install.
Back to the topic of the game, it looks like De still needs to adjust her profile to say she is level five, and fix a couple other things to be fully leveled. Gemheart also hasn't finished leveling. Since that is half the group, I'm inclined to wait until y'all are ready before continuing.

Gemheart |

ack! thought i was ready. gonna double check, basically just need to choose a feat, either craft magic arms and armor or wondrous item.
i suppose i will go with arms and armor, i think that is what De was saying i should do. in which case i will be done

Hope your PC stuff is ok DMB!
For spells I chose:
ghost sound, hideous laughter, interrogation, touch of fatigue, ventriloquism

So anyone remember THIS?
Moast excellente thanks to DMB - we've been at this a year - the longest (current)* PbP I've been in…
Enjoying this game DMB!!!
* I was in one that may have been a bit longer, but that may have been because the GM disappeared without warning and we waited and waited and waited...

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
Second longest-running current pbp for me. Well, it's the longest-running pbp campaign that I'm running, since it's the first one I've run.
I was in one that ran longer, but with several long breaks of the GM disappearing for several weeks at a time without explanation.
I'm glad your enjoying it, since I'm enjoying running it!
If I had to take a guess, I'd say you're about a third of the way through...maybe a little less. Then again, if there's one thing I've learned in the last year of pbping, it's that what happens in an hour of face-to-face gaming can take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple weeks of pbp, and that I can't accurately predict which side of the spectrum any given event will fall on. So maybe I shouldn't be guessing how much longer this game will go for:)

Heads up,
My posts will be sparing for the next day. I will be flying on a trip. The trip will be mostly leisure, but I will be working via phone/laptop. As such, I will still have time to post.
If you are one of those folks that has estimated the approximate times I am typically online, I will be on at different times. Five hour time zone difference will have me signing off five hours early, but also a drastically reduced work schedule will have me begin posting much earlier.

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
I will be visiting family starting tomorrow and ending Tuesday. I should still be able to post at approximately normal rates, but I will be three time zones removed from where I normally am, so if you're one of those people who keeps track of when others are usually online then adjust your predictions. I'll also be away from my physical RPG books, although I doubt that that will matter much for this game.

Mundarion |

There is something that I have been remiss about and we are now in a situation where it may have bitten me (and the party) in the rump. I really hadn't been doing that much with my familiar lately, and during the last battle did not think to track how much damage it was taking. Unfortunately as a lot of the damage that was being dealt out was area of effect, there's a pretty good chance that my familiar bought the farm. So, if our friendly DM could please give me some indication as to whether or not my familiar is still with us and functional it would be appreciated.
Note that if my familiar is functional, then it should only take a small amount of time before everybody in the party is free of their bonds. Regardless of the fact that my character is unconscious, my familiar should be able to exercise enough initiative on its own to chew through the ropes binding people (except possibly for De, but once another conscious character is free then De would get freed by that character).
The other question I have concerns the extent to which we have been relieved of our gear. If those characters who wear clothes still have their traveler's and or explorer's outfits on them, then it might be possible to do some sort of roll to see if Karavakos might have missed something (like thieves' tools or a dagger) that had been hidden away. Alternately we could be in our underwear and it would not be reasonable to expect that something survived Karavakos' thievery.

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
Ah, right, I forgot about your familiar as well.
As most of the threats you faced were debilitating but nonlethal, your familiar would still be alive. However, Karavakos' splinter bound it as well (not that it matters much, since De'arv'ki untied herself already).
As to your items, you still have your normal clothes. However, except for De'arv'ki, you all went unconcious before the splinter removed your other gear, so unless you hid something during the fight before you went down, the splinter of Karavakos would have found it. De'arv'ki is the exception, though, since she wasn't actually knocked out. De'arv'ki may make a disguise check to (retroactively) hide one or more small objects she is carrying before falling asleep.

Mundarion |

Fair enough, but Mundarion's physical description had always stated that he carried a wand of magic missiles, "concealed up his left sleeve" and his pearl of power "in a jacket pocket". So, at the risk of annoying the GM ...
Stealth check to conceal wand: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Stealth check to conceal pearl: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
The obvious problem being that both those items are magical. :-(
Is Hozelea with us?

![]() |

Right, so with the wrist sheaths, i've got my poisons, and five bolts able to be hidden automatically, plus the belt pouch as the hidden object on the body under the SOH skill rules.
Sleight of hand, sheaths: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Sleight of hand, sheaths(critical reroll if needed): 1d20 + 14 - 20 ⇒ (16) + 14 - 20 = 10
Sleight of hand, pouch: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
