Thyrnir's AoO also hits, but that cultist also remains standing.

Hail, old friends. (and hopefully, new one!)
To most of you I owe an apology, for disappearing without a trace. I had reasons, but not enough not to at least leave a message.
In all honesty, I had my reservations about this game, not towards the rest of you (and the GM), but for my ability to play it. But the more I went into Ragnar's character, I started to like it simply because it was so new to me.
So in short, if it's okay with you, I'd like to be a part of this campaign again, to speak the Valfatersord and to sate the icicles of blood.
Til bardaga!

Welcome back! Even with Eldgrimr joining us, I'm sure we can make two skalds (and a non-skald skald) work.
This discussion post brought Eldgrimr up to speed and can do the same for you.
This gameplay post establishes that Ragnar is still with us, having lead another group of Northlanders to approach the village from a different direction. Following this combat (which is coming to a close), you'll likely be reunited.
Note that parrot familiar's character Melkorka will soon be joining us as well.
Ótryggr Grímsson |
Welcome back, Ragnar!
I'm currently snowed in despite being in Miami with all the vagaries of having relocated to a different state. Things are just starting to settle, and I hope to get back up to posting (ramming?) speed over the holidays.
If Otryggr doesn't die.
GM Wicked |
Now that the mystic is down, does the obscuring mist disappear?
Good question. As far as I know, a spell continues even after the death of the caster unless the spell or another effect says otherwise.
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
Yeah, unfortunately most spells persist for their duration even if the caster dies.
Double skald! Oh boy I can't wait to figure out how these mechanics are going to work :)
Melkorka |
Hey folks! I'm glad to see that the warband is back together, plus a new singer. I'm thinking I might step aside for now. I'll be reading along, though, if you don't mind. And if anyone ever needs to leave the game and/or take a break, I'll be happy to step in. For now, I can keep putting my energy into the Rappan Athuk campaign I'm running, instead of splitting my time between two.
GM Wicked |
Very sorry to hear it, Melkorka. Please let us know if you're interested in returning. All the best!
Ragnar Hedefødt |

It is clear. One on the banjo, the other one on the tambourine.

Hey! I'm hoping my coming back isn't the reason for you to step aside, I really am. Best of luck in your RA game, I know you need it. (Your players probably need it too!)
Melkorka |
Not at all--it's more that I have a limited amount of time I can devote to PbP and I'm getting a lot out of GMing right now. I was tempted to join in because I've enjoyed playing with Wicked as partymembers, and if I find myself with more time, maybe I'll be back!
And thanks for the good luck--RA is a ton of fun, and my party is going strong. At level 4, they're getting fat and rich and taking on a thick polish of hubris that will be fun to knock off a little lower down. If I have to replace a character, I might mention it here before opening a recruitment (and I might have to soon, if my rogue doesn't reappear). Y'all are good at this.
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
Awesome we won!
I had time to read through the final combat post, but am currently on my way out the door and am unable to make a significant post. I should have plenty of time tomorrow to post.
Ragnar Hedefødt |
Started to write a post, then I realised it's late. I'll try and get one tomorrow!
Quick question - I'm guessing the rest of the men that I'm leading are just now coming to the Ulnat village, after the group has freed the slaves?
EDIT: I will now also thing of a name for my Magic Spear.
GM Wicked |
Sure assume you all arrive around the same time.
Signe Oddvardottir |
I will be traveling today and away until a little after Christmas. I may be able to post but if need be, please bot Signe.
Wishing you all the very best this Christmas!
GM Wicked |
Thanks Signe! Merry Christmas to all of you, too! Thank you for being such great players. I wish you all the best. Safe travels this week and please enjoy whatever your holidays have in store!
Any other RP here, e.g. meeting Eldgrimr or Ragnar reappearing, before we move on to Heroes' Rock?
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
I'm sure that more needs to be talked about with Eldgrímr, because despite him being helpful, he did show up out of nowhere and is acting like he knows a lot about them. I imagine Ramundr will be curious and ask something :)
GM Wicked |
Looking for some climb checks.
Happy New Year!
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
Happy New Year everybody!
The holidays have been particularly hectic for me, as I've just moved 13 hours across the country. We're still working on getting everything moved in so my posting won't be back to to normal for a little bit yet. Please GMPC me as needed!
Ragnar Hedefødt |
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope everyone had a great time!
I spent the last 5 days mostly driving around, so sorry for not getting a post up as soon as I could. I'm working on one now, and I'm back to regular schedule!
Ótryggr Grímsson |
Eldgrimr, I think introductions got lost a bit in the shuffle there, but Otryggr would want a few questions answered before we got to Hero Rock, especially once he realized Ramundr wasn't going to take the lead in the conversation. If it's all right with the GM, I'd like to keep a retro-conversation going even as we progress with the plot?
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
Exccellent! I'm glad to hear that, I'm looking forward to introductions as well :D
GM Wicked |
Proceed! I'll reveal what you find after the climb once you've had a chance to RP a bit.
GM Wicked |
*bump*. Are we ready to see what awaits upon the rock?
GM Wicked |
Whoops, forgot to mention that Roll20 is updated. There's a map!
GM Wicked |
@Signe a boot stomp would be an unarmed strike and render no damage. The idea is that, even if you squash some there are far too many for it to make a difference. You should roll to hit with the torch, but we will ignore any penalties for improvised weapons. So just add BAB and Str modifier.
GM Wicked |
Isn't Þyrnir using the speed seax you recovered from the Black Oak? You should be getting extra attacks!
GM Wicked |
No, there are no images for the murals. This is how they are presented in the adventure.
GM Wicked |
*bump*
There are some loot decisions to be made. You've got your choice of some interesting weapons (one thing I'm liking about ABP is that magical items can stay relevant for many levels). At this point, everyone should have access to an enchanted melee weapon (don't worry Signe, I'm sure a bow will eventually appear). I encourage you to consider who's best suited for which weapon and possibly sharing weapons between characters, if warranted.
Also, we need to decide where to head next. See this post for a review of the territory. I've also added a "Seal Coast Map" link at the top of the page with the same information.
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
I'm currently not packing any magical weapons, but I would imagine I'm somewhere lower on the priority list to have one since so many of the party are pure melee types. The frost longsword is nice, but I'm good with my greatsword as well.
I don't think anybody among us can actually use the wand of fireball. It's not on any of our lists and I don't think anybody has UMD trained. I could pick it up next level.
GM Wicked |
Off the top of my head, I believe we already have the following:
Haegtesse, a furyborn greatsword wielded by Otryggr.
A frost longsword wielded by Ramundr
A speed seax (scimitar) wielded by Thyrnir
A returning spear wielded by Ragnar
To this list we can add the beast-bane seax (scimitar) and Fellfrost. Six enchanted weapons.

This would make for some interesting RP :).

My vote goes to #8, on the way to #1 - to pay respect to the Jarl Olaf's final battle, and to learn more about that Elvanti character.
I'll go ahead and name my spear the original name I had for it -
Talersvar, or the Speaker's Retort - feels a fitting name for a weapon which you throw and you can use again.
I could take UMD as well, and now it looks like there's a reason for it - depends if we should both try and be competent, or have one as the designated magic-wielder.
As for the weapons - Ragnar's mostly designed to be darting around and reinforcing where reinforcement is needed, thus the hurling build. I've got no claim for the weapons, considering I managed to get just what I needed. I'd argue that any of the longswords is better than a normal greatsword, even if Ramundr might have more use out of Fellfrost due to him applying more sword to enemy.
Eldgrímr Hallgrimsson |
Go ahead and go for the UMD Ragnar, it looks like you plan on getting your charisma score higher than I do, so you will likely end up better at it.
I agree with the others for route.
Signe Oddvardottir |
It's true that Signe hasn't claimed anything because it didn't really make sense for her to have a magical melee weapon that someone else could use when she's ranged. However, she's more than willing to carry one. Sometimes you need to fight up close or else need magic.
If Ramundr wanted to take Fellfrost, she'd take his frost longsword. Or if Eldgrimr wants one of the swords then she can carry the seax.
Makes sense to go to 8 next and then on to 1. Probably should check out all the villages though to see if there are more slaves to be liberated - before heading inland.
