Rising to his feet (move action), the Ulfen looks to see where his pushy charge has run off. Spotting Kalkamedes down the hallway, the northman plans to give chase and tackle the sleepwalker. Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

But then, realizing that he is not likely to succeed, he tries to conserve what remaining strength he has to try and simply moves to get ahead of Kalkamedes in an effort to cut the sleeper off before reaching the ledge that the dwarf had mentioned. another move action to get down the hallway

Farlen moves down the hall but with his hands full can't grapple Kalk.

"Well with this weakness I can't really help you with Kalk." "I will attempt to add light to the mix."

Farlen pulls out his light and shines it on the area.

Farlen can barely see, so he decides to call on his magical abilities to usher up some light. Kalkamedes, meanwhile moans in frustration as too many people block his direct path. He first tries to over-run Hudor's position. CMB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 He blows past the mage shoving him aside and knocking him flat. (Hudor is now prone) When he approaches Kranzers position;
Kranzer tries a last ditch attempt at stopping Kalkamedes from barreling over the edge of the pit but fails. Kalkamedes tries to slide past the off balance Dwarf Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24. Kalkamedes easily sides steps the Dwarf's attempt's at blocking him and he moves quickly right past the surprised Dwarf.

Kalkamedes, then marches straight toward the edge of the deep cavernous pit. He 's heading straight for the edge

and then:
Kalkamedes suddenly, turns on his back heel, just as he reaches the edge of the pit, and moves towards the foot bridge that hangs out over the chasm. The bridge that, leads to the cage, shaped like a Demon's head.(btw..fyi if the text had said Kalkamedes dropped over the edge there..I would have let it happen, might want keep a closer eye on your charge:)

Kranzer rushes forward. He grabs hold of the rope tethered to Kalkamedes in case he falls, and then attempts to tackle him again.

Kranzer keeps one eye on the bridge, casually inspecting it for hazards as he wrestles with Kalkamedes. Then, if he has time, he inspects the cage.

Mentys clatters down the passageway, too slow to grab Kalkamedes but able to help Hudor snag the rope tied to him.

With Hudor and Mentys holding the rope, Kalkamedes is sufficiently restrained just before he steps on the bridge to the Demon head cage. He seems to want to board the makeshift elevator. In the mean-time the rest of you get a good look at the Hallway, Chasm, and interestingly designed cage.

Suspended by thick chains, a massive metal cage shaped like a demon’s head hangs over a dark shaft with no bottom in sight. The cage’s door—by all appearances a menacing maw, filled with incisor-like fangs—hangs open to the west. There, a narrow bridge spans the short distance between the ledge and the cage. A small console on the north edge of the bridge bears a single lever. The lever in the console presently sits in the middle of three positions.

Crisis averted for now as long as at least 2 of you have a hold of Kalkamedes or his rope. What do you do now?

Farlen, after shugging off the almost disaster at the ledge, says, "I really thought that was it. And not to mention that bridge and cage are awesomely spooky. These thralls must know the power of good old fashion fear tactics."

Vulf, having never seen anything quite like this elevator before, utters a prayer. casts detect magic. He then examines it further.

Carini eyes the strange elevator. Is it safe to say that only one person can ride it at a time, based on its size on the map? Or could two fit?

"We should probably send someone down that thing in advance of Kalkamedes. Two or three if we can make it work, just to be safe, and make sure it's secure down there. Then send Kalkamedes down and see what it is that he's seeking."

She is clearly willing to be in the first wave to go down. "I've got a keen eye and can see in low-light. And I can hold my own against most threats until reinforcements can get down... just in case."

Farlen can see that the lift is stable and can hold up to 4 people safely. Furthermore, Farlen deduces that, the lift goes both up and down. Up presumably to the top of the Pyramid and to some yet undiscovered, sub-terrain chambers.

DC:14 knowledge religion:
Perhaps the ancients preformed some ceremony, sacrifices, or other rituals on top of the Pyramid and this lift transported the priest and perhaps their sacrifices to the top?

Despite int's horrific appearance, the elevator seems quite mundane and does not detect as magic when Vulf cast his detection spell.

"I suggest Mentys and I stay back to hold Kalkamedes back until we can determine it is safe. The problem is, do we go up or down."

"Good with me!" Kranzer says. He peers down the deep chasm, and swallows, wondering too which way to go.

"Perhaps, Kalkamedes will give us some indication once he's on the contraption. Otherwise, if our dwarven scout says we go up, I suppose that that is as good of a plan as any."

When Farlen boards the elevator...Kalkamedes goes crazy tugging at the rope trying to lurch forward and join him in the lift.
I'll require str. checks next if you don't do something with Kalkamedes, he really wants to get on that lift.

Hudor wraps the rope around his right hand once and puts all of his strength into helping Mentys keep Kalkamedes under control.

Hudor says with concern in his voice as he is dragged by Kalkamedes."If he goes like this, we might have to let Kalkamedes onto the elevator and just hope we don't have to fight something as soon as we arrive to where ever the elevator will take us."

Having distracted himself talking to a sleepwalker, Mentys loses some ground. He tries harder to keep Kalkamedes safe. "Stop!"

Seeing Mentys and Hudor struggle so hard with Kalkamedes, Carini places herself in front of the door to the cage, motioning the others to continue. She braces herself to block Kalkamedes if he slips Mentys' grasp. "Go, get on! I'll help keep him back!"

Total Defense for +4 dodge to AC, and thus CMD.

From his position in the elevator, Vulf is unable to render any direct aid in holding back Kalkamedes, even if he had the strength to do so. The cleric utters a quiet prayer, then pronounces a blessing as he lays a hand upon Kranzer. Vulf casts guidance on Kranzer.

"Shall Farlen and I go on ahead? I must admit, I do not yet feel as though I am back at my full strength."

If I am not mistaken, Vulf and the others still have some time remaining before the effects of the wand wear off.

"Can you tell from the pull on the rope which way, whether up or down, our restless sleeper seems to want to go?"

Kranzer rushes onto the elevator with anyone else that was going to head up.

"Let's go, if Kalk can get through ya, then he's comin' too. No time to be wastin'!"

OK going to totally break character here cause, this could drag out over the coarse of a week or more and it's not that crucial to the scenario. Kalkamedes just wants in the elevator...I'm not going to play out how you restrain him ect.. anymore. Farlen has already boarded the elevator..nothing happened to him. Four people can go in the elevator (at one time). If allowed on the elevator Kalkamedes calms down and waits patiently while looking down. All the de-buffs have worn off while you're waiting/debating what to do and which direction to travel (up-or down)...So simple questions: Do you use the elevator? If so, which four people, load up on the elevator? If you leave Kalkamedes on the first trip..what do you do with him? Which direction do you go? Lastly if you don't use the elevator what do you do next? That's it 4 questions need answering or just one ...When 3 of you agree on the answers..I'll move on.

I say for simplicity, and to see which way to go, we let Kalkamedes on, then Mentys, Carini, and Vulf. They can restrain him at the bottom (he wanted to go down I think?) and then wait for the rest of us. That means, what, 3 CMB checks waiting for the elevator and the rest of us?

After some debating it's decided to let Kalkamedes on the elevator. Farlen seems disappointed that he's not the first to operate the elevator. However, Farlen does indicate that he thinks pushing the lever from it's current middle position, to the down position should cause the the elevator to descend. Kalkamedes is joined by Vulf, Carini, and Mentys on the elevator. After some anxious looks down in to the unknown blackness; (even Mentys with his darkvision ..can't see the bottom) Carini, unceremoniously pushes the lever to the down position. The elevator descends in to the darkness..soon leaving the sight of those on the bridge.

for elevator people with a way to see:
The elevator decends a good number of seconds before hitting the bottom. DC:15 knowledge dungeoneering to guess how far you've descended.) Palm-sized shards of jagged steel jut from halfway up the walls of this large cavern, bathing the cavern with a dark green light. A set of natural rock columns support the chamber’s ceiling, which rises to a height of twenty feet. A small tunnel leads to the northeast.

Carini helps get Kalkamedes off the elevator, then makes sure that he's secured by both Vulf and Mentys before returning to the main level with the elevator.

Upon reaching the base of end of their descent, Vulf attempts to help Mentys keep ahold on Kalkamedes.

As soon as the elevator hits the bottom..Kalkamedes struggles mighty against the ropes. Vulf can see dimly. The strange metal shards jammed in to the cavern walls shed a dull dark green light. As Mentys, Kalkamedes, and Vulf step off the platform, Carini hits the lever to send the elevator back up to retrieve the others. As the elevator clamors up the long ascent Kalkamedes tugs mightily on the ropes, trying to drag the Oread and the Ulfen towards the tunnel in the Northeast.

"No rest for the weary." recites Vulf. "And apparently no weariness for the resting!" he adds in an almost defeated tone as he attempts to help Mentys keep their charge reeled in.

When the elevator comes back up, Hudor quickly gets on it and motions the others to hurry also. "We don't know if they might be in trouble or that Kalkamedes was able to drag them off to somewhere."

When everyone else is on the elevator, Hudor will activate it to go down.

Mentys is with the rope and Vulf's help is able to grapple but not quite pin Kalkamedes. They spend what seems like an eternity dancing about on the dust and dirt of the cavern floor. A little while later, the rattling of the demon head elevator can be heard. The rest of the group steps out of the elevator to see Kalkamedes, Vulf, and Mentys in a comical struggle . Vulf pulling on the rope, Mentys holding Kalkamedes from the back by his shoulders, and Kalkamedes trying to surge forward toward the tunnel leading out of the chamber.

OK so what's next guys...everyone is on the bottom now...the light is a dim green coming from some ancient shards of green metal spaced throughout the walls. People with low light vision can see normally those with normal vision have a 20% miss chance and can only see about 20' in front of them.

With more hands now present to keep Kalkamedes from rushing off, Vulf offers a prayer and looks for any magical auras within the cavern chamber. Vulf casts detect magic.

Kranzer moves up, eyes peeled for traps and other dangers. He stops just on the other side of the bend before the opening.

Vulf cast detect magic in the cavern and detects that, the strange metal plates buried within the cavern walls are indeed magical. A very different and ancient form of, the light spell that's familiar to modern wizards, sorcerers, and even divine casters. The magic though, seems to be fading, although ever slowly..

Carini advances down the hallway, her guisarme angled upward and ready to strike should something surprise her. Staying close behind Kranzer, her eyes easily pierce the low-light as she looks over the dwarf's head into the room.

The entire group surges forward in to the tunnel. Very shortly the tunnel opens to a much larger cavern. The same palm-sized shards of jagged steel from the elevator area; jut from halfway up the walls of this large cavern, bathing the cavern with a dark green light. A set of natural rock columns support the chamber’s ceiling, which rises to a height of twenty feet. The tunnel you cam from leads to the northeast. There are several rounded alcoves branch off from the main cavern, some you can see clearly and the one your next to has a surprise.

The circular alcove your group is near buds off from the larger cavern. An elaborate set of concentric circles inscribed in dull metal of different colors occupies much of the space within the room. Standing in the middle of the circle is a gnome, dressed in threadbare clothes.He has an unkempt mane of fuchsia hair. He drops to his knees when he sees your group enter the room, By the fates, it can't be true! No! I must be loosing my mind! Are you real? Has someone come to rescue me after all this time?

Before moving on, Hudor cast Light on the tip of his spear again to provide better sight in the cavern.

Spotting the gnome, Hudor frowns and responds to him. "How long have you been down here?" He doesn't trust the gnome yet, thinking he could be some type of trap.

confirmed core game...will run with up to 6 players ..will select players sometime on Saturday. Farlen this game was started from one of your request on the recruiting board. No Mykel your good I got a good idea of your play..As far as characters to play.. (FYI both the wizard and Sorcerer are guaranteed spots: so not likely to need more arcane in this party)
