If there's a spot I'd love to join!
If there's no overlap I'd play a Dedicated Hero, (ex-)doctor who got traumatized when a hit-and-run victim woke up in the middle of surgery and disemboweled the other doctor and a nurse before running off. After a mental breakdown from the trauma he spent some time in a mental institution. Here he met a hunter (who was institutionalized because of an insanity plea after being caught by the law) that helped make sense of the encounter, which helped the healing process enormously. After being discharged recently and realizing his medical career might be rather.... jeopardized, my character used the still-institutionalized hunter's contacts to become one himself.
Wealth: +1 (4 ranks in Profession), +4 (Occupation: Doctor)
wealth: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2) + 5 = 9

Gear over wealth bonus 9:
9 - 1 (leather jacket) = 8
8 - 1 (medical kit) = 7
7 - 1 (laser sight) = 6
Biggest item: if allowed a 2x mastercrafted DOG-1. 1st mc is inherent, 2d is bought.
DOG-1 (Weapons Locker) = purchase DC 17 (includes inherent mastercraft)
License = 17 + 1 = 18
Second mastercraft = 18 + 3 = 21
Total purchase DC = 21.
Which is 15 over my wealth of 6 so a wealth decrease of 1d6+1
Final wealth = 6 - MC DOG-1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
If not allowed or the roll is below 0, I need to purchase a different gun

Awesome. I need some time to do my shopping and setup a profile, but everything else is good to go.
In fact, let me go ahead and roll my wealth. The +2 is from the Investigative Occupation. Come on big money!
Wealth: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Woo-hoo! Oh, that's a sigh of relief. That takes care of all the little stuff I want with no problem. I'll roll the rest of the equipment in a bit.
Here's my character's background:
Dom was a private dick, like his father before him. He stumbled into the truth when he and his Dad were hired by a rich old lady who thought her husband was sleeping with another woman. But the truth was he had been involved with a doomsday cult. Damn things were all the rage before 2012. They got caught snooping around, and his father was later sacrificed before his very eyes. Dom doesn’t ever really talk about what happened after. Although one night Harvey got him drunk enough to mutter a “…made them regret it.” Now Dom is on the move, exploring the weirder side of the world one decapitated head at a time.

Okay, with a WB +9, I can purchase the following with no contest:
Cell Phone, DC 9
Range Pack, Oversized, DC 9
Knife, DC 7
Concealed Carry Holster, DC 5
9mm (50 bullets), DC 5
Compass, DC 5
Box Magazine (x2), DC 4
Flashlight, Standard, DC 4
Buying a handgun license is DC 10, that drops me to WB +8.
Next let's start off with a simple handgun, the Beretta 92F (DC 16). I could get something more powerful, but I'd rather start off small. Buying that will drop my wealth by 2, giving me WB +6.
Now, Silver Bullets 9mm bullets would cost DC 11. That will drop me to WB +5.
That puts me out of range for a car right now, but I can wait a bit.

Your plot hook is more or less you were contact by harry and told about the situation down there.
A rift in the shadow opened up and dropped a castle next to the town of crested butte and monster have been pouring out of there overrunning the area. You were told nearly a dozen hunters went that way already and you decided to check it out.
As an alternative you can play the role of a hunter who came here before the players arrived and you somehow survived this long.

And I apologize for that I had originally intended for it to be much slowly pace with more investigation and then I wrote myself into a corner with Renna being taken and giving you a 3 day limit...After that everything was rushed. Looking back I should have had the dominated renna travel with the group for a while before having the vampire come for her.

What's your rules on restricted weapons in weapons locker?
With his Wealth bonus, I think I can only afford items of 8 and lower and one rifle, because they are 17-18, because the roll with be 2d6+1, which averages to 8.
Is that right?
I figure, the character arrives by bus with a bag. Still working on a name, otherwise, I'd post the build.
cheers

no major restriction at this point. Just nothing crazy like a missile launcher.
Also unlikely as the goverment has quarantine the town since they are afraid a an outbreak of lycantropy and or vampirism.
They have a cover story in place of course but until department 7 (aka the men in black) give the ok there wont be any buses coming in or out.
Still assume you made it past the quarantine somehow.
You were most likely sent by harvey. See the beginning of the adventure.

I really liked d20 Modern/Urban Arcana. Is anybody going toward any particular advanced classes? If your team needs combat oomph I could build toward a Gunslinger or Soldier. Maybe a Fast/Strong Gunslinger/Martial Artist combo. Conceptually I'm thinking a sort of gun-fu fighter; less Supernatural and more Hard Boiled, but with more demon fighting.

I'm currently building toward Gunslinger, although I think we could definitely use a Soldier type, or a Martial Artist.

I could do a Strong 3/Soldier 1. Maybe a former Department 7 guy? Will Smith from Men in Black but he quit for some reason. That would probably need DM's permission.
Or he could just be a straight up former soldier who saw something weird and got sucked into the Hunter crowd.
I'll throw together some stats.
