Lol. Me too. Seem to have had an overboard reaction...

I have an eight hour test Sunday that's fairly important for my Pathophysiology grade. I'll be posting in the meantime, but they may be short.

I only have three more weeks of class/here on the island. It's going to be kind of hectic but I will keep up.

Oh, no worries. Real life first. I'm getting close to my exams too, but I am not studying medicine, lol. Best of luck on your tests!

M Humanborn

I have a work-related formal dinner event to attend tomorrow night, coupled with a project that I have been working on whose culmination is tomorrow morning. As such, my posts may be sparing for the next 48 hours. "Bot" me as needed, although I don't anticipate that being necessary.

Check, have fun. :D

HP: 12/12, AC: 21/14/19, SV: 4/2/0, INIT: +2, CMB: +3, CMD: 16, ATT: Greatsword +5 (1d10+7) -OR- Longbow +4 (1d6), Perception: +0

8 hour test is done. Only two more in this term and then I'm headed back to the States. I absolutely can't wait.

On another matter:

Brie has a very rural accent that I have not been writing out. I played a goblin once before with the same accent and the other players said that my posts were difficult to read. Based on the preference of the group, I can keep typing the way I am or I can go with the accent.

"The accent be soundin somethin' like this and while I dinnae be havin' any trouble readin' it, for some reason, other's be findin' it kinda hard. All ye's really gotta do is read everythin' out loud."

RETIRED Human Cryptic (Lost Mind) 1

fine either way. i did have one or two people before who typed accents and it was nigh-impossible to read. your example doesnt seem too extreme.

I think it's cool. I like it, and I don't have any trouble reading it. Gratz on the tests!

**WIP** | Forgeborn | Male Form Adult

Gratz Brie and Am fin' with th' accent n' all! Medical school reminds me of IT Testing, grueling and mind numbing.

Male Human Cleric

I'm fine with the accent. Ethan's will come and go based on how much he's had to drink.

Male Human Ranger 1

Have you ever read Trainspotting? The original work was nothing but accent. I had a college level reading skill when I attempted to read that book. I almost finished it, but the school year ended, and everyone else looked at it and went "You're a braver man than me... How the hell are you struggling in this class when you can read that?" Oh if only I could figure out why I struggle English classes because of punctuation... Anyways, I say bring on the accent lol.

Karson Kolinder wrote:

Have you ever read Name of the Rose by Ecco? or On Revolution by Hanna Arndt?

Both books killed me to read.

Ecco is a Franciscan Monk and writes like one. The first three pages were mostly so and so begat so and so, who begat so and so, who once lived in a village under the rule of his lordship so and so, son of so and so.

On Revolution is a sociology book written for sociologists. The technical jargon goes on and on and while she is brilliant, I could only read five pages at a sitting before falling asleep.

Brie should be easy by comparison. I will keep it light.

PS: No, I have not read trainspotting. I did see Stash however, where Brad Pitt's Irish accent was so good he was completely incomprehensible. I did my first year of med school in England and many of the accents there were incomprehensible as well, particularly the Scots and the Geordies.

I never read trainspotting, was a good movie though. I've done a bit of theater, and I did one show called Dark of the Moon, which was sort of inspired by the folk song Barbara Allen. The whole script was in a deep southern accent which was a lot of fun. Interesting bunch you all are ^_^

Male Relatively Human Medical Student

I dated a girl named Charity from South Carolina. Now I'm from Atlanta, and had no trouble understanding her, but my parents couldn't understand half of what she said.

Seems that they don't really have southern accents in Florida anymore.

Apologies, prelim today, I will be back right away tomorrow

Anyone else have tons a problems trying to post or even load the forums today? My site kept crashing. Said the store was down or overloaded or something.

RETIRED Human Cryptic (Lost Mind) 1

been loading somewhat sluggishly, and sometimes a post will stall.

i always copy my post before hitting submit. i've been burned too many times.

Yeah, they were having problems yesterday. It looked like a database problem, perhaps load balancing?

Advanced class guide playtest came out, the site crashed a few times from too much traffic.

The site was down for about three hours and then the message boards for another two for me yesterday so I didn't post. I've posted now.

DM Jen: I don't mind if you roll for me whenever it's convenient, especially for things like Skill Rolls (perception, knowledge, sense motive) or Saves I should not know I'm making. I don't need to see the roll if it's inconvenient either. If you roll it IRL or with the online roller, either way is fine. There are a lot of rolls I don't show my players when I DM. Saves vs Charms, Illusions, many skills, etc. I'm a roleplayer and story is more important to me than rolls.

I have extremely bad luck with the online die roller and so am certain that there is no way you could possibly roll worse than I do on a regular basis.

Alrighty. If you can't tell, I am stalling slightly because the over-GM has not returned and given us information. :D

Male Human Ranger 1

I kinda figured that. The only major downside to this overall idea lol.

lol, for sure. I'm sure they'll be back soon. Maybe we could ad lib in the meantime? By the way, Brie, all knowledges can be made untrained, but you can only "know" up to a dc 10 that way.

Well, this stalling does not appear to be succeeding. I will move things along as soon as I get back home.

I know that GM Tallgrass never reappeared after his first recruitment post. Have the other two games started or are we the only one?

I believe two other games are also running.

Ah, that's good then. I'm enjoying this one so far. It's fun to play a thief type character - just imagine what your average joe on the street would do if no one was watching and follow that.

**WIP** | Forgeborn | Male Form Adult

Bathus let's make sure we do not have our side quest to your book store for too long. Unless it is part of the adventure/campaign, remember what GM's do to side questing lone wolf characters ... lol

Lol, for sure!

**WIP** | Forgeborn | Male Form Adult
Skills:

GM Jen - Bathus and Jerex can role play a little more while getting Jerex's stuff. In the past, my PnP/PbP GM/DMs usually did not like it when the party splits or side quests take too long and they would do things to "quickly" end it. However, if you are encouraging it now, I am sure both of us would like to role play it out more.

Ditto, no worries though. We are ready to join up with whatever we do next whenever.

I am very free with things. Either way is good with me. Investigation is also pretty difficult if everyone just trounces around as a massive group.

Male Human Ranger 1

Sorry about this weekend guys. The new Xbox came out and my place was a busy one for the weekend.

Hmm, I'm not sure how to fluff the family. When I first read the background, I pictured some sort of Varisian gypsy family, but that might not be what you're going for. I'm more than happy to let you define it, within reason. (Not collectors of artifact-level magical weapons, for example)

I also played ESO this weekend but didn't like it and perhaps it will get better as beta progresses? For now, SWTOR and DDO are my favorites.

Male Human Ranger 1

Yea, not really gypsy, more like traveling merchants. They travel like gypsies, moving with other merchant caravans, but they're not really gypsies. And I kinda figured that it would be mundane equipment as well, no big deal.

Elder Scrolls Online?

I see a lot of people really excited about it but I haven't looked at it at all. I hope it's not all up north in the snow.

I don't get to play computer games except during breaks and so delete all of them from my computer. During breaks I play GW2.

**WIP** | Forgeborn | Male Form Adult
Skills:

Yes, Elder Scrolls Online

Unfortunately Brie, due to the NDA, we can not really discuss it.

M Humanborn

yeah, cant discuss it too much. but we can be SUPER VAGUE OH YEAH!!

I used to play some GW2. Usually on MMOs, i get really hard-core into them for about two months and then i stop playing and move on to another game. I don't like to grind end-game content or any of that.

Never played SWTOR, by the time i considered it, it was already on a sharp decline.

DDO, i like quite a bit, but i haven't felt like investing into it. and the rebirth system feels really grindy to me.

**WIP** | Forgeborn | Male Form Adult
Skills:

I am starting to like DDO again. The main beef I had with DDO is you needed someone to adventure with to play and sometimes it was real difficult to find people. They kind of fixed that with NPCS but it can still get dicey even with NPCs. I only play DDO maybe once a week or more if I get bored or enticed to play with our very small guild.

As for SWTOR, I like it a lot, the combat is faster but it can get grindy like many MMOs. However, SWTOR is far less grindy than LOTRO - The One Ring of Grinding. Maybe one day, they can create dynamic content that will make the MMO feel more like a single player computer game such as the Fallout genre than the traditional grindy MMO to keep players busy as they develop more content. Perhaps with the next expansion, soon to be released, SWTOR will pick up. The next expansion has free form space dog fighting.

I do not know if it was because the ESO was in beta or because it is an MMO, but the graphics does not seem as good as Skyrim using mods from the Nexus and ENB Series.

Male Human Ranger 1

The only MMO I really play is Neverwinter since it went live. It's really the only one that I feel like I don't have to spend hours upon hours grinding, but at the same time gives me a good pace. That and my girlfriend plays it with me lol.

HP: 12/12, AC: 21/14/19, SV: 4/2/0, INIT: +2, CMB: +3, CMD: 16, ATT: Greatsword +5 (1d10+7) -OR- Longbow +4 (1d6), Perception: +0

I played SWTOR for about an hour while home for the break and walked away. I've never been a big Trekkie or a Star Wars fan and so couldn't generate any real interest in them.

I love GW2 and like Forsaken World quite a bit as well. I did not like DDO's gameplay, never tried LOTRO (I'm not a Tolkien fan either), and while I played EQ, then DAoC and then WoW for about a decade, I find I'm more interested in structured large group PvP these days.

I've also found that medical school has changed me a lot more than I would have expected. I find myself wondering what's the point of online gaming when on such-and-such date I'm going to have to stop, no matter how much fun I'm having, and start classes again. I absolutely have to delete the games off my computer or I find myself playing them, and I do not have the time for that.

My wife begrudges me every minute I spend on these boards, but no one can study 24/7, certainly no one as burnt out as my fellow students and I at this point.

I hope I will get back into MMOs someday, but I'm a bit doubtful. Doctors work long hours and right now it looks like we may move to Europe after school to do LARPing. It's much bigger there than computer games and I'm finding an interest in it again that I'd thought long dead and gone.

Well, I've delayed watching lectures long enough. Finals are in two weeks and then Step 1 of my Boards are three months after that. Time to get crackin'.

M Humanborn

yeah, i didnt anticipate ESO graphics, or the graphics of ANY MMO for that matter, to be anywhere close to a single player game, especially one that was built to have impressive and immersive graphics. i just liked that in my play of ESO, there was never a "gather X wolf pelts" quest like some games, especially games that want X number of something and you have to kill (X*10) of a creature to get that item.

And i definitely feel you on the not playing MMOs due to school. when i was in 2nd and 3rd semester of a compressed Korean class, i had no times for game. i only had time for a drink in one hand and a textbook in the other.

DDO kinda put me off of it because even in such a game, which i feel should be very close to DnD, so much effort was put into character optimization and itemization. dont get me wrong, that stuff happens in DnD, but i guess i foolishly expected less of it (at least it seems very foolish now that i am thinking that while typing it hahaha)

@Brie - Technically, I like to be geeking out but the budget has been limited lately to purchase $800+ network devices for the home. I imagine there will be no time for you play MMO even when you start private practice. You may have to wait until retirement.

As for LARPing, it's ok but I prefer the SCA, our the Roman equivalent of the SCA, and/or real Medieval Martial Arts which do actually exist in Europe. I watched a special on it one day and it is totally different, deadly, and it makes sense from what we have seen or read about in the modern era regarding medieval fighting. In other words, how they fought back then is a lost art. I think the only sword fighting that is preserved is out of Japan and China. Right now, I am taking Krav Maga and my studio is very into all aspects of Krav Maga including survival and firearms.

@Tenro - I agree I hate X grinding and one of the main reasons why I no longer play LOTRO. In my opinion, DDO is getting better especially since we have moved to the Forgotten Realms which is by far my most favorite Campaign Setting pre-DnD 4.0.

M Humanborn

yeah the forgotten realms move was also a factor that discouraged me, as i vastly prefer Eberron

Apologies, my internet cut out yesterday evening.

@Tenro - I have never liked Bethesda's graphics, not even for ES V. I think it's sad when your fans come along after and blow your graphics out of the water. I played through Skyrim with an assassin type and did every quest in all of the possible quest lines. After that there seemed no point in playing and that's always my problem with single player games. What do you do when you've finished?

@Jerex - Funny you should mention SCA. My wife is a member of Dragonshade, in Meridies and has been in the SCA throughout the SE for a long time. Her father was a member and so she begin as a kid. Her pinterest page has a huge SCA following and she is a very well respected Tang Dynasty scholar in the SCA still. She's been doing SCA for 30 years or so now although I've never been into it. I like LARPing because I like more of a "game." SCA isn't a game and you don't "play" SCA so it's not as much up my alley.

LARPing in Europe is a whole different ballgame than LARPing in the US. Take the passion and fanaticism of SCA costuming, etc and put it with a LARP and you get to what it's like at Mythodea.

I probably will never have time though. I have two years of clinical rotations coming up and then three years of residency. I used to want to be a surgeon but I've decided their hours are ridiculous. 6 am to 7 pm is not for me.

I don't know what you expect from us regarding the dossier. My tabletop group, both with me as a DM or my friend Doug, play by the "here are your clues, now go solve it" method. Others play by the "I roll my Gather Information roll" and then get told further clues based on their rolls.

I even played a Modern d20 that did a combination of the two where you rolled to see how many clues you received and then the DM handed out newspaper articles, police reports and radio transcripts where you had to figure out which city the adventure was taking place in.

So, I've taken your clues and have been trying to go from there. I've not gone to roll for anything because I'm not used to doing it that way. If I do need to roll, please feel free to do it for me. 8)
