I run full speed up the corridor, barge into the room and stop in front of the blob(AA-20, 70ft total), drawing the greatsword on the way, dropping the ram by the door where I stood and the torch where I stop. Looking at this new foe, I pull the sword into an attack, preparing myself mentally to enter battle fury, which will come next round..

Celif casts Bless, giving everyone +1 to attack and +1 saves against fear effects.
The Blobbish Creature 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 crawls over Imowen and slams her again for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 six points of damage! It sprays a slimy splash of digestive acid on her 1d6 ⇒ 1 for an additional point of damage! It quickly tries to engulf her!
Imowen: Reflex Save please.

Imowen frantically wields her mace, and brings it smashing down on the Ooze, hitting it soundly and causing 7 points of damage!
Fener steps in and smacks the wiggly Ooze for 4 points of damage! Rudy manages to grab the monster in his teeth and bites it soundly, but the creature seems unaffected!
Gezzo swings his mighty sword and slashes at the creature hitting it soundly! His blade enters the amorphous blob and barely causes 1 point of damage!
Lryhla succeeds in biting the blob in her jaws, shaking her head from side to side, but the part being grasped just flows out of her jaws unharmed!
Flug Managarm
Flug moves next to Imowen and says something no one can hear, bringing up his hand to place it on her wounds to heal her in a pulsating glow of black light.

Thorgrim moves in and, like Sirena, seems to find a sensitive area to attack! Despite part of the blow being absorbed by the resiliency of the Ooze's body, he strikes it hard enough to kill it! The creature starts to dissolve, and quickly runs down the floor drain in dribbles and spurts...
In the absence of two confirmed crits, we would be continuing this battle!

Before she was rudely interrupted, Celif was starting to study the books in this room.
Kn:Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Kn:History: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Kn:Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Kn:Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
In the metal cabinet opened by Imowen is the large decorative book and locked metal box previously described.
There are numerous other books on the shelves in this room and they are all written in the ancient tongue. Many appear to be ledgers, as they contain pages with columns of writing and calculations. There does not appear to be any religious background to any of the material.
The equipment on the table is a masterwork alchemical laboratory, providing a +2 to the appropriate crafting skill. It is extremely large and heavy, and would be difficult to remove from its present location.
Cеlif
Celif runs her fingers over the eagle embroidered in the leather cover of the large book. "Say... that charm that was around the witch's neck... is this the same emblem?"
Is the big book locked (not unlike a diary)?
She decides to check for magic on the book before opening it.
Cеlif
Any information from the Detect Magic? (Sorry, I was kind of subtle when I mentioned it.)
Gezzo Wrathforge
Recovering one of the vials from his saddle bags, he uncorks it and pulls Lryhla muzzle up and pours the contents into the wolf's open mouth.
Here girl, wash you mouth with this.
Potion CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
As Lryhla laps up the remaining liquid and cleans her face with a long tongue, Gezzo looks down at the box.
We should probably open that box, eh Imowen?

"I think this may be a diviner's tome," says Celif as she opens the volume. "It's definitely not an ordinary book; it has its own aura."
Story Master
|
Celif flips through the book, and it appears it is part spellbook and part instruction manual. Interestingly, the contents are in several languages, so it is not difficult with some study to comprehend a bit of the contents.
The first set of pages contain the following spells, all transcribed in a very neat and meticulous hand:
3rd — clairaudience/clairvoyance, dispel magic, displacement, greater magic weapon, hydraulic torrent, lightning bolt, seek thoughts, tongues
2nd — arcane lock, false life, fox’s cunning, locate object, resist energy, scorching ray, see invisibility, touch of idiocy
1st — alarm, charm person, comprehend languages, color spray, detect secret doors, expeditious excavation, floating disk, protection from evil, shield, true strike, ventriloquism
The remainder of the book contains numerous charts, tables, text and drawings, all related to the crafting, maintenance and training of constructs. There are lots of places where someone has written a text, and someone else has scratched out a portion and written an addendum in the page margin.
It is difficult to determine exactly what the value of this tome is worth, but there is no question that the Brotherhood of Magus would be very interested in studying its contents.
Fener
Interesting, can you determine who used this book? or even what deity they worshiped? This place gets more and more interesting, although there are many unnatural things here and in the end we might have to destroy it all.
This is very far removed from the followers of the Old Faith and the spirits of the natural world. I will need to warn the wardens of the nature of this

At Fener's request, Celif examines the book in more detail.

Knowledge Roll Results:
It appears that the tome was a shared resource among those who worked at this place, and that the efforts were designed to craft constructs to support a war effort. Constructs can work 24 hours per day, and pending no maintenance or breakdown issues, perform work almost indefinitely. Different constructs had different purposes, such as guarding the facility, performing routine tasks, performing maintenance, etc.
One arching theme exists in the latter portion of the book - making the constructs work faster and more efficiently to produce hybrid soldiers. This effort included magical emphasis in addition to mechanical aspects of construct enhancements.
Your knowledge of history draws a blank about the references to a war, and the technological and magical aspects of this facility are very mysterious. Hence, what you are observing and experiencing deal with events occurring before the recorded histories you are familiar with.

Celif shares what she can glean from the book with everyone, adding in a small voice, "How old is this place?"
Fener
Fener hearing Celifs comment. Looks to the stone, wood of the doors, and even the dust to see if he can determine how old they are.

Did you mention war golems to defend the complex, like an eternal stone guardian ready to destroy all intruders? Because there is probably one of those in the room I looked into before Imowen got overly acquainted with that blob.. Speaking of which, I think I tore some scabs from when the witch almost opened me up like a fish just before we killed her. Can any of you take a look at it?
I lift my tunic to reveal four horrible gashes covered in fresh blood across my stomach.I forgot that I was still at very low hp after that fight. 13/37
I then describe the statue and mention the stairs in passing.

Celif gasps. "Gods above, Thorgrim! Why didn't you say something!"
She pulls out the curative wand and proceeds to attend to his wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
*Click!*
She sighs and tosses the wand onto the workbench. "That's it I'm afraid... it's drained of charges."
The drawings and diagrams in the book, Story Master... are they evocative of stone/earth golems as Thorgrim describes, or more like mechanical men built of iron and brass and steel?
