Lost Lands Sandbox Group 4
Final group for multi-party sandbox set in Lost Lands.
Overview of the structure of the campaign at large can be foun in this post.
Some seats are already reserved, we are likely only needing one or two PC's through this recruitment.
Player: Chillblame
Character: Karl Chillstrike, Staff Magus
Stats and backstory completed
Player: Karl Hammarhand
Character: Cian, Paladin
Backstory completed
Player: Lareg
Character: Okrin Goodspeed, Scrollmaster Wizard/Monk
Backstory completed
I would like to see the following areas rounded out: social skills, restorative magic, ranged damage.
Looking for one or two self-directed players interested in exploration, dealing with maps, gathering information and intelligence.
Character Creation Guidelines
*2nd Level
*150 GP
*20 Point Buy
*No starting stat below 7 after racial adjustment, no starting stat above 18 after racial adjustment.
*Bonus Feat
*No Traits, except Rogues (Rogues get 2 Traits)
*Fighters get 4+ Int skill ranks
*CRB: everything (some changes to leadership and crafting and few spells but nothing that matters at this level)
*APG: Most archetypes, most feats and spells, most rage powers and bloodlines etc.
*UM: Most feats and spells, ask first on archetypes and additional class features like bloodlines.
*UC: Some archetypes, some feats.
*Anything ARG ask first.
*Nothing AP or Golarion specific in flavor
*Races: CRB plus drow, tiefling, aasimar.
*Base Classes: Cavalier, Inquisitor, see spoiler
For example, I don't have oracle listed, but if someone wanted to make a Rage Prophet I'm suddenly cool with oracle levels as part of that build. So you have to just run things past me sometimes, just please don't send me builds out of the blue that don't follow the guidelines.
Short backstories are ok.
Present them as three sections: Background, Personality, Motivations. A few sentences for each is enough.
Check out the obsidian portal wiki page for inspiration.

Hold off on that KC, until we hear from the other guys.
Recruiting for this is going way faster than expected, I just got a submission for a nature type cleric, and the player seems like a good fit. If you guys have a full team fielded, I can look at running a prequel adventure if you don't want to wait until august.
If we do that, I suppose it would mean starting at 1st level. Up to you guys if you want to do that or wait for august and start at 2nd.

Was talking about you.
Cool. Is the Feather sub domain from the animal domain OK? It makes the domain much more rangerish! Would inquisitor of Freya be OK too? I know you said cleric or ranger. Inquisitor is a good mix of the two. I am good with either class. I may present both (if inquisitor is legal) and let you guys choose. They make good archers/divine casters.
I would take care of ranged damage and restorative magic (and have an animal companion-like a ranger).

DM Grimmy |
Hey, cool concept!
I'd be interested in playing either a Bard or a Cleric. Are you using the standard pantheon, or is there a pantheon unique to the setting for your game?
I'll try and come up with some options for you this week.
Check the wiki, link in first post. It's still a little sparse but I'm adding stuff gradually. I have a lot of deities to add, I'll try to get to some more of them tomorrow.
This particular adventure party has a few folks grandfathered in from a precious recruiting thread, so it's really more of a place for them to co-ordinate their builds and so forth. Depending how that goes and if they all check in, we might need one more PC, maybe even none.
I might open a fifth seat for something like a trapper ranger or an archaeologist bard if I think they look unprepared for dealing with traps once I see the finished character sheets.
If the seats turn out to be full there is also the tournament link

Feather domain is cool, inquisitors are awesome but you guys may find you really need that ability to pray for just the right spell for the situation. Go cleric I think.
Plus would the inquisitor be able to get the animal companion?

Ok. Are you good with boon companion for the animal companion from the domain (at 5th level)? I'll probably go white wolf for Freya.
Both will with the feather or animal domain. Inquisitors get one domain.

Hey, Trux here again.
As Luck would have it, I've been working on THIS archaeologist.Since this is a pretty mana and diplomacy heavy party, I will make a few more skill-related tweaks tonight.
My current Bio doesn't reference your wiki yet, and I will make a few changes there, too.

DM Grimmy |
Ok well that character definitely looks close to what I was looking for I'm just not sure if I'm opening another seat. Would this character be interested in excavating ruins and such as well?
What about the player? It's important you look over my games to make sure the play style is a match. I've never run AP's in my life, just home-brew and 3PP stuff with a retro, throw-back feel. My style isn't for everyone, especially some gamers used to PFS and paizo AP's will object to things like no WBL, no guarantees of balanced encounters etc.
Also I look for high posting availability, and players that want to get deeply immersed.
I'm really taking my time with the recruitment for this last party to find people who will get into the character developed, exploration, and freedom to set their own goals to pursue.
I'll re-post some of my questionnaires below.

DMG |

Survey for Applicants
*What is your posting availability like? What do you like in terms of pace for PbP?
*How familiar are you with the setting? Have you run or played in Necromancer/FGG modules before?
*How many PbP do you currently participate in? Player or GM?
*What does "Old School" mean to you?
*Would you have still been interested in this campaign if it was CRB only? Why or why not?

MOAR QUESTION!!
.
.
.
.
.
Questions.
1. Are you comfortable in non-linear adventures that require self-determination? This is not really anything like an AP, the story isn't written yet. At some points you have to decide what interests you and what you want to pursue. This can lead to option paralysis for some players who aren't used to a sandbox. I have a few players who really engage with the environment and drive the story forward, but I need a couple more to really drive things.
2. Do you have a problem with things like tracking ammunition and rations and using the encumbrance rules? I realize many people are hand-waving these things because they find them dull, but I really love the resource management/attrition/survival aspect of the game. It was close to the heart of the game the way I was playing it growing up. How much treasure can I get out of this dungeon and still be able to survive the trip back to town? That sort of thing. It's not for everyone, but it's too important to me to let go.
3. Do you have a problem with not being guaranteed any kind of WBL figures? I can't call the campaign low-magic exactly. You can find things that are way over WBL but they tend to be more flavorful items that people usually neglect in favor of the "big six". If you like to plan your build around specific items you will be frustrated. Crafting and shopping are limited compared to a standard modern pathfinder game.
4. Where do you see this character being most interested in going at low-mid levels
-Wilderness Exploration
-Dungeon Crawl
-Cleansing Defiled Holy Sites
?
and at mid-high levels
-Mega-Dungeon
-Underdark
-Excavating Ruined Ancient City
?
also how interested are you in urban intrigue throughout career?

Hey, DMG.
Sent your questionnaire answers to you direct via PM. Of course, I used the wrong damn alias. I'll work on that in future.
This half-orc is squishy by design. If he does die, I promise it won't break my heart.
I am in no hurry to start. It is of course important that you are set, ready and satisfied with your cast, so let's get some other candidates in then?
Democracy! Liberty! Lost Ruins!

DM Grimmy |
Questionnaire answer look perfect Makirut. If you've been looking for a Westmarches style sandbox you already get it. That was my main inspiration for this campaign. I would only urge you to sacrifice a little intelligence or wisdom to get Con up to 12.
OK, once eminem80 gets caught up, that's the 5th and final seat then.
We have Chillstrike (staff magus), Cian (paladin), Okrin Goodspeed (scrollmaster/monk), Makirut (archaeologist) and a cleric of Freya on the way.
You guys can use this thread to finalize builds and discuss any pre-existing connections some of the party members may have.
Then, let me know if you want to wait til July-Aug at 2nd level as planned, or do a prequel at 1st level and start sooner?
I can't start the main adventure any sooner than July, probably Aug, because I have 3.5 stuff to convert and I'm moving it geographically to be closer to where the other groups are. So I'm sort of transplanting things hex by hex, it's a long-ish process.
A prequel I could do though, but it would be 1st level.

Gobo Horde |

Hey, the Mindchemist is an archetype of theAlchemist. One of the base classes. He has very good skills, chucks ranged bombs for aoe damage and gets a very limited spellcasting ability.
Questionaire!
1 i post frequently, usually checki.g the boards at least twice a day. Usually i am one of the ones waiting on others and i often drive the game forward a bit if things are lagging.
2 brand new to the setting, dont know if you see that as a good thing. I get to experience everything first hand :D
3 i am a player in 2 pbp, 3rd starting up, 4th one is dead :( I am often one of the more light hearted characters, usually finding/creating humor in whatever we are doing.
4 old school means d20srd.com. Old school means lots of ingenuity and improvisation (not a rule for every little thing) and more story driven (i almost always play homebrew, i know of 1 ap: We be Goblins)
5 if you want to make it core only, thats fine. It just means that i play with tighter restrictions a different mindset/buildset adn LOTS more source-checking (i play purely online)
MOAR QUESTIONS!
1 again, i love homebrew and that usually means open ended. A good example, in one game we took out a bandit camp and were asked what we wanted to do now. So we built a fort! (according to the gove, i think we became bandits >.>)
2 i always track encomberance (things are heavier than you would think!) as its just a neat little game i play. Some of my eariler games i also tracked foodstuffs including different vegitables to make different soups and spices and such. It was fun, but that was too much. So to a reasonable degree, yes :)
3 i never did figure out what the 5th and 6th items in "the big 6" were :( im ok with going without the belt of incredable dex and whatnot if most/everyone does. It kinda sucks being the only one without :(
However. I do tend to make strong characters. Even my jome characters will be reletavly strong.
4 well if im building up a human alchy, probably clensing defiled holy sites, exploring lost kingdom. Higher levels h would like the mega dungeon or ancient civilization. I havent even built a guy or selected an idea yet, i dont know!
EDIT: It looks like im too late :(
Hope you still consider me (as a player) but if not, have fun :)

Hey Gobo sorry for making such a confusing thread. This party was almost full before I even made this thread, they are migrating from another thread in my huge spider web of a campaign.
Since I opened this thread, I have already found the last two I needed (assuming everyone checks in, a couple haven't yet.)
You can still check out my tournament thread, but carefully read through the guidelines and take a look around to figure out what sort of game this is. It's not for everyone.
Alchemist is not on the list, so before you submit one make sure you really understand the vibe I'm going for, because I have only seen a few alchemists that don't seem out of place in my games. They always make me think more of steampunk and a little bit later tech level and time period then the settings I run.
BTW, def no goblin PC's (just in case that's where you're going with this :D)
Your answers look good, I like the tracking soup ingredients thing.

The post above you is the staff magus, chillstrike. Stats are in the alias profile, backstory going up on the wiki soon.
The paladin has the flu, he PM'd me. He will make an alias with stats here in this thread and put backstory on the wiki when he feels better.
The scrollmaster/monk is still awol, hopefully he checks in soon.

Eminem80, you can find out about my PC by clicking on this alias' profile through this thread.
DMG, I have made the necessary change to Makirut's profile. Making further editing tweaks today.
I would be interested in a quick 'prequel'. I'm not in any hurry, however.
Do you think it's possible the Bard would have encountered any of the spell-casters while looking for a mentor's training? Otherwise, perhaps Makirut has been apprenticing to a shopkeep of magical trinkets.
As for the Druid&Paladin, perhaps they have traveled before in a caravan for a short time.

DM Grimmy |
Maybe Okrin Goodspeed? Here is what Lareg wrote about him.
From a young age Okrin marveled at the temple of Yenomesh each time he was nearby. As he got older he quietly sought a way to gain entrance to the great temple, to learn to write, and harness the powers of glyphs. Coming from a very modest household, the closest he could get was to apprentice with an order of monks that served as guards for those visiting the temple. He hopes in time to discover documents that might grant him access to The High Sanctum of the Scroll.
Or maybe Chillstrike, his family has some connection to Sefagreth I believe, Karl can tell you details.

DM Grimmy |
Up to you guys really, start in Aug at 2nd level, or sooner at 1st level.
Build your PC at 1st level I guess. If you have to adjust it's always more fun adding a level then subtracting one, right?
========
*When you've written your story, email me for invite to obsidian portal so you can post it up there
gmail mooredm80
*When you have your stats, create an alias for the character with the stats in it's profile, and post here under that alias.
========
Hope you're feeling better KH. Wouldn't worry much about reading the thread I'll give you a highlight reel below.

DM Grimmy |
Ok basically Karl,
-Rules for stating your character are in the first post.
-Chillstrike is checked in and ready to go.
-No word yet from the player of the Scrollmaster but I'm not too worried he seemed strongly interested. I think he will show up.
-We have a new PC on board, a bard played by trux. another serious player, I think trux said he would handle the gathering intelligence side of things (correct me if I'm wrong trux)
-We are expecting a cleric of freya with a wolf companion, this player is going to get engaged with the maps and mapping, noting locations, choosing routes, etc.
And, that's all you missed. If those five pan out we have a full team fielded.
Once alias's are complete we can move this to a discussion thread.

Alright, I've chopped down to level one for the option of the intro.
DMG, would you recommend I buy the L.crossbow and bolts with starting gold? Or are these things likely to be easy to come by?
Also, should I factor the "outfit" of clothes as an item in this game?
PCGen slapped me with one. *shrug*
Suppose it would be worn under any armor. Comfort being the issue.
EDIT
Also self-inserted as Lauriel's batman/assistant in Fairhill. Seemed like a good fit.

You get one extra feat from the rules above.
My son's soccer game was delayed last night so I got home late. I'll work in my cleric this weekend. I'll have more time to do it right.

You, sir are a gentleman and a scholar. May all your son's games be victories.
I'll probably jump and grab skill focus(disable device) if that's the case. I'll give it a think.

Getting some thieve's tools (30gp) will add +2. If Masterwork (100gp) +4. Maybe we can all chip in and buy you some soon.
