if anyone wants to play the preset bard just post here, you can change the name, spell list, and skills. its posted in the discussion

first come first serve

Samias add 10 doses of shark repellant to your inventory. during the last 2 years the free tribes have been infesting the plains with landsharks to stave off the slavers. you eat it and the sharks don't attack you for a week.

Adrialla the item you're looking for is a ritual summoning stone that was left behind by the cyclopes. you know it's somewhere in the Bandu Hills or relatively close by in the Northern Mwangai Expanse. anyone who has come across it leaves it alone because it only displays magical properties on the equinox or solstice

does anyone think I should make a DM alias?

everyone gains polyglot as a bonus language if you already have it you get another one.

I fell asleep last night but here it is now.

backstory:

born to a native village some years before, he was mistaken as a tiefling and sold into slavery at a young age. only his wits and quickness saved him from the harshness of the Bandu taskmasters. useless as a physical laborer he had access to the living quarters of the shamans and had a chance to explore magic. he never had a chance to escape until he was sold to a high ranking Aspis member and slipped his chains en route to the city. he quickly got in touch with the church of Calistria to take advantage of his one marketable skill. seeing the slaving voracity of the Consortium matching that of the Bandu tribes he started spreading rumors that his current place of employ the Guppy Eater was a gathering place for dissidents in hopes of attracting allies to hurt the Consortium, the Bandu, and his home village who sold him all those years ago.

plans:

plan to take combat reflexes, dervish dance, spring attack and 3 levels of shadow dancer by 8th level. dervish dancer all the way after

if Adrialla doesn't fill in why she's wanted I'm gonna have to fill in the blanks

aaaand time

Characters Chosen: Adrialla Nightmoon, Samias North, Karla Firemane, and Nurush

to the trapper archetypes, you made good characters and backstories. but I'm not liable to use traps in my games and seeing class features wasted makes my skin crawl. to Grumbles everyone else just made more of an impression on me

will need to know by the end of the long weekend if you all are still available to play. if you are we might even be able to start the introductory scene.

Will get the Dervish Dancer up sometime tonight in the discussion section. if any of the runners up want to they can take over him

deadline moved back to 3:00 PM central

this is for house rules and requests. anything you want to see in a treasure horde, or custom magic items should be posted here. I already have a few merchants in mind

To start anyone can gain an extra feat by sacrificing both their traits or darkvision if you have it. you can only do this once

for multiclass characters I will allow feats to move up class features not to exceed your character level. advancement will go up by 2 levels for things like spellcasting and sneak attack. 4 levels for things like wildshape and trap sense. these feats will only be taken on every odd level and never consecutively. maximum of 3. final call for level advancement and availability by me

couple of feat tweaks.
Eschew materials gets rid of the need for a holy symbol and oracles get it for free

if you know an advanced spell you can apply the heighten metamagic to cast the lesser version (mass heal -> heal) minimum spell level is the spell level of the lesser spell

quick draw can put away weapons just as fast at 10th level

any bonus feats you get that you get that you don't need the prerequisites for you act as if you have them for future feats

you can take any feat at any normal feat slot excluding the multiclass feats above. you won't benefit until you meet the prerequisites

I am not afraid of cheese and there will be some coming your way people, be warned

I'm gonna say the cutoff point is at 2:00 pm central Saturday.

was hoping for thelizardwizard and alexgndl to submit something but thelizardwizard dropped off the forums on Sunday and it seems alexgndl seems to have decided against it.

I will be allowing some last minute tweaks and will introduce some house rules concerning a few feats and possibly and extra feat. If no-one wants to play as the Dervish Dancer someone is definitely gonna have to role play him outside of combat

also William, you're gonna have to choose between claws and the spiky thing as they both replace the spell like

alexgndl wrote:

No, pre-errata Scarred Witch Doctor uses CON as its casting stat. It's Orc/Half-Orc only though, so your witch is gonna have a crapload of STR either way.

Also, may I ask why no Unchained, at least not for Rogues?

I know that sucks for rogues, but it is a fairly radical change. one I'm not as familiar with as I should be

pre-errata. thats the strength as casting stat right? I never liked it when Paizo backs off on a bold move like that

Would you allow SoP content? I am debating on going an Incanter with a bunch of wall effects.

as nice as it looks I wont be overhauling magic for the campaign

yes to firearms, nothing advanced

magus is acceptable, just hybrid and antipaladin is out. when I said hybrid classes were weird, I meant redundant. what I've seen from occult brings something new to the table.

only limits on items are under 6,000gp and you don't start with a magic weapon. there will be magic weapons, just not at the start of the campaign.

Robert Henry wrote:
I'm thinking a local who was trying to help free slaves. You said no "advanced classes" does that include Hybrid classes? I like bloodragers and Slayers but can easily do similar things with barbarians and rangers. Thinking melee or if we need a 'Trap guy' a trapper ranger. Probably an elf switch hitting ranger (dex build). the melee build would be a human barbarian, two handed fighter.

I did mean no hybrid classes. sorry to burst your bubble, but those things are just weird. occult classes are ok

application open to the 27th, 2 background skills.

William, its not the alignment I'm worried about its the archetype. there's gonna be a lot of evil and neutral mercenaries, cannibals, and creatures, so the channeling may end up hurting the party.

this doesn't inherently hurt your chances with me. it just makes other people look good (ha ha)

edit: also this is my first online campaign and am not particularly adept with the forums. would appreciate it if someone told how to pm, link threads, etc. or just linked me a thread explaining this

lets move this over

1 person marked this as a favorite.

the situation is that you have been treasure seeking in Sargava and have run afoul of the Aspis Consortium. you all now have a price on your heads. the Consortium currently controls all boats in and out of desperation bay so the situation is you either lay low in the city, strike inland to some extent, or get gutted by bounty hunters.

how the consortium got control of the place is simple. there was a massive native uprising that overthrew the government. without the government there was no one to pay protection money to the pirates. everyone started crapping their pantaloons when they realized that Cheliax was about to move in, but then the Aspis Consortium miraculously intervened before Cheliax could pounce. the natives realized their mistake too late when the slaving operations began and no one could or would stand up to them. a strict communications blackout is in place when outbound ships are concerned. only Aspis mercenaries, officials, and cargo leaves. it has been astoundingly effective with Cheliax cooperating in exchange for warships from the new shipyards on the coast, only very recently has anyone from the inner sea taken note of the situation. all this took place over a period of around 20 years and it has been 5 years of status quo

starting level 4

25 point buy

2 traits no drawbacks

max hp first level, average +1 every level after. all enemy hp maxed

6000 gp worth of gear. no one starts with a magic weapon

no antipaladins. no evil for evil's sake characters. no advanced class classes. core and featured races only. any playable race coming out after advanced race guide will be preapproved. anything coming out of a player companion will be preapproved. any third party content will be preapproved. no unchained

for backstory I want to know how your character got here and how they've gotten a price on their heads anything else would be appreciated

any inn or tavern or such in your backstory shall be named the Guppy Eater, if only for party cohesion and the campaign will start in the Guppy Eater.

there will be a dmpc. it is a concept I want to test out without having it mulched against the party. next to useless in combat until 7th level anyone who really wants in can control it and modify the spell list but i control class feat and stat choices. out of combat will make a decent face. is a bard(dervish dancer) and will have 3 levels of shadowdancer

4 slots open

Iftits aren't really any weirder than tieflings, all six native outsiders pretty much have the same origin. as for the racial traits, I disagree

as to the fluff, hes a mildly unstable philanderer and devotee to Calistria. not everyone has to be complicated. he was probably kicked out of his hometown but that's not important to the character so i didn't put it in.

for the not a thief thing, you sir lose a cookie. he's a medieval carnie with ranks in sleight of hand. even if he wasn't he'll be taking 3 levels in shadow dancer for the invisible untraceable scout, HIPS, has access to the fascinate performance, and is very charming in any circumstance. what about this character isn't a thief?

and while I'm bragging I should point out that parts of the backstory are vague because everyone else named the bar their people hang out at. then someone else made a character with ties to Calistria. I work with everyone

Chapel Ty'El wrote:

I've been checking the thread multiple times a day to see if anyone had posted anymore.

I've seen some really good submissions for this one. Or maybe it's because the idea is different than what usually comes up so different characters can be thrown in.

I'm not a thief. I'm a pretty boy circus performer.

my favorite exploits

All those beautiful women :P ;)

How I ended up in blackwell

I was living the good life. free room and board, ladies falling over themselves to get in my bed, I was even earning all this by doing what I loved performance. It was a specialty opera house, it played opera based on the afterlife and all the wonderful and terrible places beyond this mortal coil. I was one of the main supporting dancers. i even once or twice got to play the part of hero or villain due to my agility with stage weapons.

I started to get cocky when noblewomen took an interest in me. it was 3 decades into my career there and once i had a taste i couldn't get enough. this went on for 7 years and my escapades got wilder and wilder. some women wanted me to sneak into their homes without letting their husbands know. It was one of these - a nobleman's daughter - that got me in here. she got 2 minutes away from her chapperone and gave me a map to her mansion and room and a few keys. I made my way into the mansion and got to her room. That was when the maid found us and went off to get a guard. She ushered me to the window, but i can't climb and i couldn't make the jump. the guards caught me and the father trumped up a thievery charge and threw me in here. Its been 5 years

What is a crime you've always wanted to commit

I'm gonna kill the f*#%er who put me in here. Duke Aslicht of the Exchequer whatever that is

associates:

Christi: tiefling performer with the old troupe. managed to bribe a message to me about what happened after i got arrested. The troupe got smashed apart by the watch by city watch. Apparently the Duke has a vindictive streak, some BS about me having time to stash my ill gotten gains somewhere. alot of people were hurt or killed. Christi escaped and managed to get a job at a ritzy theater despite the scandal, apparently i'm the only one still alive who would know where the night's earnings would be.

Picard: Old mercenary type, used to be a real hardass, but he's human so he got old. he was hired by the troupe for traveling inbetween towns, but when he got too old he retired into the circus and worked with us on choreography. I would say hes untraceable, but i know his favorite pub

Susan O'reilly: redheaded priestess of Calistria, I frequent her temple whenever I'm in town. I always get a hefty discount and everytime I go there she tries to recruit me as a professional stripper/courtesan

i just can't leave it alone don't judge me:

I was only asking for the darkvision thing because i would've gotten it from shadowdancer anyway and i can live with no for an answer. but goddam are you underestimating darkvision. it's a whole sensory suite that most life on golarion lacks. its hard to overstate how badly a human martial is screwed by anything with access to a second level darkness spell and darkvision. it literally changes the game. very many dungeons take place in dark places populated exclusively by things with darkvision. I don't make a character without it. it gives access to really interesting feat lines. i believe the only reason you underestimate it is because it's so common. I dare any self-respecting min-maxer to disagree that darkvision is more powerfull than any feat that doesn't require darkvision(or any other uncommon sense), or have less than 2 prerequisites

for the spellcasting you misunderstand. there is a line in bardic spellcasting that says all bardic spells have verbal components, which implies that there are some on the list that don't normally

GM Mowque wrote:

no mandatory verbal components, because of my archetype, character theme, and campaign theme. willing to go the extra mile for this

concerning my alternate progression: linky

and for comparison

to note the bonuses are exactly the same at level 4 and i didn't bother with any split bonuses for simplicity's sake

will finish backstory and collate character tomorrow. I also have some niggles for my character i would like to ask gm leniency/helpfullness on namely trading darkvision for a feat, a third party feat, and negotiating away my bardic verbal components as this is a stealth character with a dancing bardic archetype in a thievery campaign. this should be my most egregious minmaxing for the character

i'll redo the backstory tomorrow

story of boris besat

short version:

oread town kobold tribe rivals. kobold tribe taken over by juvenile brine dragon. they join forces to defeat force of goblins, ogres, trolls, and hill giants led by a lvl 10 hobgoblin. boris besat distinguishes himself in fighting. he leaves to find out what caused monsters to come our way

just typed massive backstory accidentally clicked link

it was more of a question to other people whether there were more dps or control submissions out there. oh well my fault for not being clear. i'll just make the oread and hope for the best.

also op would you allow the maneuver flurry in armor at all? i'll burn some feats on it if i have to

Hello was wondering if it was too late to get in on this.
If not i have 2 concepts i want to try. a sapmaster orc barbarian/unchained rogue or an oread maneuver master(monk)/brawler(fighter)
would like to know what would be a better fit as i can whip up crunch relatively easily as opposed to backstory

when thinking about it when i'm not dead tired i realize that that was the wrong character for this particular campaign

submission: human fighter monk. archetypes: brawler MOMs. request 1 concession: to flurry in armor will elaborate tomorrow gnight

If its winter, i think its a tossup between a druid, cleric, and winter oracle who can just make it blizzard all day everyday and not care until everybody else is dead from exposure. (plus any other class that has access to endure elements)

The feat says when using step up to follow, step up uses a five foot step. Therefore you're five foot stepping for 10 feet and there is no AOOP

who can use the force?
several wizards only
not any-one else

What if you don't have a fly speed?

To be more accurate: What I have in my mind is: Is it possible for a monk to grapple a flying opponent if he could successfully reach her using Cloud Step?
If yes, what will happen at the end of that particular turn? Both started to fall? Only monk started to fall even after a successfull grapple check? Because, Cloud Step says you need to end your turn on a solid ground otherwise start to fall.

You would both fall.

Look at the grappled condition.

emphasis mine.

You aren't on flat ground: you fall. It can't move: it falls.

I'm not sure this is correct. It's can't move, but magical flight is a purely mental action. It would need to have enough carry capacity to hold both of you aloft, and would need to make a fly check to hover. But it wouldn't automatically fall.

along this line of reasoning could someone magically flying still fly around while being grappled?
