Not worried about efficiency, necessary retcons, or opt'y.
Just about having fun with the character. He's only 19 years old and can be anything for us.

He's been an orphan, a slave, an apprentice, a weaver of tales.
Mak has not been an archaeologist, yet. So far he is little more than a Vagabond.

Was this all some ingenious cover while he worked for Macavollo, Jamboor, or Vanithu?

Sounds good. I love Mak's personality/background!

I mentioned the archaeologist thing because you don't buff the party, so we lose the goodness that is inspire courage.

With that said, is anyone able to grab haste before our magus at L7?

Caramir: Are you shooting for Arcane Archer by going Ranger/Wizard? I really enjoyed looking through your character builds in your profile!

Okrin: What is your long term plan?

As mentioned above, I am just trying to make sure my character balances the group. Knowing you guys' plans will help.

I really don't mind talking about character builds :D

And yes, the idea with Caramir is going Ranger/Wizard/EK/AA - the initial level as ranger apart from the needed martial ability, provides utility and something I cannot live without (skills) - also why I took the Breadth of Knowledge feat and the elven race.

With that in mind, I think that at level 6 (level 5 as a Wizard most likely, since I don't think I am going for the early entry SLA with Caramir) he will have access to level 3 spells - haste is a definite candidate.

Caramir is OLD (124 years), so I imagine him as an extremely intelligent one, who lived most of his life amongst an all elven community, soaking in all the knowledge and ranger abilities, much as if he had a 'formal elven education' :D

Then he took off - he wants to be initiated into the Arcane Arts (I am entertaining the possibility of him carrying already a spellbook around with him which he studies from every night, to make taking a level in wizard easier) but there is also a 'darker' undertone which I'd rather not disclose yet, and even though he is mostly easy going, there is a 'thirst' for power that may be his downfall :D

Anyway, with the Arcane school in Endhome, it is a natural destination for him, though he really isn't in a hurry - after all, having all eternity to play with (or just a couple hundred years) tends to make one not rush things.

@Larrieux: Good to know you had fun looking over my characters - I am not really an optimizer, but I try that they end up well rounded ;)

The RP was not forgotten ;)

Roleplaying in the Felled Ogre:

"Name is Caramir" - the elf meets the man's handshake with his own - "I am sure there are plenty caravans moving out to Endhome that could enlist your services? But of course I understand that you may think we are one alternate option" - he nods - "In all honesty, I think we are indeed planning that trip but, and let me bluntly honest here, why should we trust you friend?" - he chuckles somewhat - "I mean, you could be simply measuring us up, and have some fellow highwaymen jump us on the road?"

Looks like a good plan Caramir! I really like the way you have incorporated your background into your build. I hate not having skills too! That is why I so often play bards, inquisitors, Wizards, Witches, and rogues! Clerics have NO skills ha ha, but they play a vital role. I like that the GM gave fighter the extra skill points!

Roleplaying in the Felled Ogre:

Larrieux leans back in his seat and strokes his chin. Hmmm...A wise guide...Now I know I want to travel with you. He points at Caramir. I'm not going to lie...seeing that you were an elf peaked my interest. The elves I know think things through before making decisions, not like these kids they call longstriders these days.

He leans back further in his seat, lifting the front two legs off the floor. With his ale in his right hand: How about this...Three gold now and Three when we get there. I do not expect you to guide for free. Besides, Sefagreth would skin my hide if I didn't at least attempt to help boost the local economy! He rolls back his head and gives a hearty chuckle. What do you say? Do we have a deal? He holds out his hand again.

Grimmy: Is the new Cleric OK?

Let me check him out.

Baron is a first name not a title right?

Sefagreth is a surprising choice! Sort of a background deity for NPC's I thought.

There's no Sefagreth temple in Endhome, but there's one in Bard's Gate. It's a shrine on the first floor of the offices of commerce and trade. Clerics of Sefagreth are responsible for managing tax collectors, surveyors, and overseeing licenses for land purchases.

I'm not saying you can't play a Sefagreth cleric if it's firing your imagination but please don't play one just because travel domain got a blue rating in some optimizers guide or whatever.

Tax collection? Really?
Damn, sefagreth is a lot less interesting than I thought initially.
I think I was thinking more in the vein of neutral-aroden.
Thanks for clearing that up.

--ACTUALLY this would be awesome for a secret order of Vetinari-style assassins.
DMG - permissible?

Well the original list of deities I had up was the pathfinder converted ones and that list is slim-pickins. A few distinctive necro/fgg deities that are central to the fledgeling setting, like Thyr and Muir, but the rest were plucked pretty blandly from RL mythology to pad out a pantheon I think.

The Bard's Gate supplement has much more distinctive original deities but I was late getting them uploaded because they're still 3.5 and have some wonky domains.

Sefagreth was one of the first of those I got up so I wasn't too surprised players gravitated... at least it was an interesting sounding name.

I have lots more cool ones upped now though.

From the Wiki on Endhome:

"Being located at the intersection of the great north/south and east/west trade routes and the mouth of the Gaelon River has made Endhome the trading capital of the continent."

"Because it is the only city where merchants can buy or sell to other merchants from so many far off lands, the streets are always crowded with exotic travelers and businessmen looking to make their fortune."

From the Wiki on Sefagreth:

"Typical Worshippers: Aristocrats, merchants, seafarers and caravan masters.
Sefagreth is a handsome deity popular among aristo- crats, diplomats, tradesmen and courtiers. "

I wanted to play a spoiled aristocrat who begins selfish and slowly moves toward sacrificing himself for others (much like Han Solo). Following this train of thought led me in this direction.

I have sent you a PM to go into more detail.

Thanks for looking over my build.

I see the train of thought. It's a cool twist.

So it looks like eminem80 has almost single handedly got the new cleric up to speed so we can seamlessly begin adventuring without missing a beat. All while I was at work!

Pretty cool ;)

Maybe the baron thing could be a plot hook... Like a duke from Waymarch has promised Montpierre a barony near Endhome but it turns out to be full of monsters or whatever.

I don't know what this is but it sounds cool.

Havelock Vetinari is the Patrician of a large city.

He was schooled to be an assassin. (He failed camouflage class because he "Never Once was in Attendance") He plays chess with vampires via correspondence. He runs the city through a bureaucracy of abundant grey-swathed drones.

My idea was, among the tax collectors and bureaucrats there is a subsect of Sefagreth worshipers that is a cell of assassins. However, this would probably only work in an administration-heavy city. The assassins would keep order and make stability their overriding precept.

P.S.: I'll try and work on the orc clans here again soon. Nothing from Grokar Ravager recently, and I'll be on vacation. YAY!

I want to add - noticed Mak never officially gave any of you his name. Happy to handwave it and not make it a big deal. The only stranger he's introduced himself to is Asleif's boy.

This kid has seen some trouble, and he just doesnt give out his name unless prompted. Being as he is a bard and semi-professional liar he's more likely to feed you a handle than use his given name. Trope : #mydarkpast
