"Mhhhhmmm.. You are strong, you are brave, you are smart.. And you name yourself, you call yourself Pathfinders! I am strong!! I have brave!! I HAVE NAME!!"
He seems to calm down a bit, and continues "Why you want to cross? WHy I should let you cross? This is MY ferry!"
He looks around at you all, and at the goblins.
"You give me, I give you. Or maybe little goblins give me?"
Yukie
|
Yukie briefly wonders what the goblins could possibly have to offer the troll. "Yes, mighty Rimetusk, name your toll and we will do what we can to satisfy it. Do you desire gold? Or, perhaps, something to satisfy your apetite?" She glances at the sandwich, still hopeful.
Letting him name his price first may not be best, but better than insulting him by making an offer he would deem too low, or wasting our gold if he is less greedy than they say, she reflects. She also lets the goblins speak if they intend to, as they seem to get along surprisingly well with the troll.
Whatever Rimetusk says, however, she tries her best to evaluate if he's asking for more than usual, and would be willing to haggle the price down.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Since haggling is not her forte, she looks back to the group, in case one of them has gotten a better impression of him than she has.
Halorn Zakok
|
Halorn shrugs and speaks quietly to his fellow Pathfinders, "I say just pick an amount we'd all be willin' to pay and offer it first."
In other words, pick something like 3 or 5 GP per person and try offering that first.
Jory Redcap
|
Jory looks at his sandwich with great desire:
"This is an outstanding sandwich. Surely you do not want this. It is strongly spiced by Varisians of dubious reputation. It is not for the faint of heart."
Jory does not have to manufacture a look of disappointment at the prospects of not eating his sandwich.
Horatius Lartius
|
Sensing the honest act of sacrifice beneath the dwarfs comedic offer Horatius respects Jorys intent. Focusing on the troll he uses his abilities to try and read the creatures intentions. It's alien nature seems to thwart his attempts though.
Sense Motive : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Detect evil per Paladin ability focused on the troll(Move Action equivalent to 3 rounds of focus). Basically if he's 5HD or more he will detect as evil. More info here.
| DM Rickmeister |
He does not detect as evil.
"Rimetusk want sandvich! And wanz money. You Pathfinders, you rich? You give money, make Rimetusk happy!"
He eyes you, to see if you're wealthy, in an appawling attempt to imitate Horatius' stern gaze.
Yukie
|
No time for a longer post today, but to keep things moving:
Yukie turns to the rest of the group. "I propose we offer three each, along with the sandwich, for a total of 18 gold pieces." A pause. Then, to Jory, with a perfectly serious tone: "Your sacrifice is appreciated."
Horatius Lartius
|
Keep in mind we'll need to pay for the goblins, horse and tiger as well I'm sure. Horatius had gotten 25gp off the goblins at the towers and so can pay for himself and seven others with that if it ends up at 3gp per.
Horatius steps close to Yukie. Handing her a hefty purse he says, "This is the gold I retrieved from the goblin tower. It should provide for the passage of eight of us if you feel three gold a head will get us across."
| DM Rickmeister |
Halorn Zakok
|
Halorn looks around at the party. Since they agreed not to fight Rimetusk, he appears rather confused as the others appear deep in thought. "Is there something I'm missin'?"
Yukie
|
Yukie has been silent for a moment as the party debated how much to offer, and now it seems Tiasar has something in mind. This little? She lets him handle it for now.
Admittedly I'm not 100% sure which skill would come into play for negociations like these. Yukie can still step in if it's one of the things she's really good at.
| DM Rickmeister |
Jory Redcap
|
Jory walks up to the troll with his sandwich and reluctantly hands it over. "It is very spicy. Only the strongest of constitution can eat this without a large source of water."
Jory does not mention that water, although seeming to help, only amplifies the spices. Fruit juice or milk is the only liquid that really helps dampen the spices.
Yukie
|
Yukie considers Halorn's counsel, as it's close to what she had in mind, but Tiasar seems rather convinced that his meager offer will do. "Are you sure? I admit I have no eye for these types of negociations. I will at least make the offer. Brother Andre, your help will be appreciated." Figuring the troll must be starting to lose his patience, she empties part of the pouch Horatius handed her, breaks off from the group, and speaks to the guardian, once Jory has handed over his precious sandwich.
"We have decided to pool our resources, mighty Rimetusk, to offer you our gold. We hope you will find it a suitable tribute to as dutiful and strong a guardian as you are." She bows deeply, and, in cupped hands, offers four pieces of gold. "Sir Jory is the most generous of us," she remarks, "as he is offering a rare delicacy."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Bluff (for the sandwich's true worth :)): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
As before, Aid Anothers are always appreciated.
| DM Rickmeister |
"Haha, finally you silly Pathlosers know who is your master. I accept your gold, and will allow you to pass. I am great, and so is my generosity!"
Rimetusk will ferry you across, and apart from his odour you have little problem with him anymore. You find yourself across the river in no time, and as you move away and continue on your path, you will see the light is fading in a few hours time. Tomorrow you are free and clear of Irrisen, and will be turning west to cross over into Hagreach, the easternmost portion of the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. Beyond this lies your final destination: Trollheim.
I assume you set up camp and everything? Make a single post about what you do during the night, and I'll continue you on your path in 24 hours.
Jory Redcap
|
Jory has three blankets left, so he checks on the goblins to make sure they are ok.
He meditates a while and talks with Halorn before turning in.
He warns everyone: "Watch those goblins. We are close."
Horatius Lartius
|
As with the prior night Horatius first spends time assisting with the camp setup and checking on that everyone is well. With that done he takes time at the edge of camp to pray for Erastils blessings and to take in the natural beauty around them.
Rising and sheathing his blade he returns to the others.
"Thank you Brother Andre. I will take the second watch when weariness comes upon you."

Your planned route goes through a stretch of wooded land, probably intended to keep you lot out of sight from the wandering patrols of either nation that will guard the border.
Natural trails wind through these woods, allowing passage through the thickets and shrubs. A sudden opening reveals a little house, no larger than a small child’s tree fort, built atop bundled tree branches lashed together like stilts or legs. The woodwork on the exterior of the house is exquisite, almost delicate in its craftsmanship. The only entrance to this small, one room structure is an open doorway facing west.
You are currently 50-80 feet removed from the hut.
If you move close enough, see below.
The miniature house is empty save for a small wooden chair, sized to fit a porcelain doll. The hut stands 10 feet off the ground.
Horatius Lartius
|
What is this? A watch tower of some sort...perhaps the home of a fey?
Horatius examines the strange structure as best he can from a distance. T10 Perception : 11
He asks the group quietly, "Does anyone know what this might be? It seems to be watching the West and so I would guess it's Irrisian but I have no knowledge of such things."
He draws his sword and turns his eyes warily to the woodlands around them.
Perception looking about for hidden foes : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 But apparently he's gone blind.
Yukie
|
Trollheim is close, everyone is safe, the river has been crossed, the goblins' antics have mostly turned to white noise in Yukie's ears... The young Tian woman is in good spirits as she does what she can to help set up the camp and keep the goblins relatively satisfied and quiet. She acts much like the previous evening, though hopefully they won't be rudely awakened this time.
Survival (Aid): 1d20 ⇒ 14
Edit: D'oh! Kept the tab open without refreshing before I posted. Yukie is a time-traveller.
Yukie
|
"How very strange," is all Yukie has to say on the matter of that puzzling little house. She looks back to the others, to see if any of them knows more than she does...
Then down to the goblins, who might have a better idea than they do. "Do you know what we are looking at right now?"
Halorn Zakok
|
"Seems weird having such a place just sittin' in the middle of nowhere. Let's give this place a wide berth and keep movin' along."
As the party moves along, Halorn keeps an eye out for trouble.

Those with knowledge local can roll it, if you want. :-)
Horatius Lartius

Sadly I'm pretty sure we care completely without knowledge in such things :)
"I agree with Halorn. Strange though it is, we have a task to complete. Let's keep our eyes sharp and continue forward."
| DM Rickmeister |
Going to avoid it, or take a look inside? The path leads up to it directly, so you will have to go through the forest.
Map is up, see my name.
As usual: put it on 50% for ease of viewing :)
