Halorn Zakok

Halorn grunts his agreement. He seems slightly annoyed. "I should've noticed earlier, but those #%@@$! goblins were distracting me."
Halorn speaks, "Yeah, we'll be needin' some good shelter tonight. It ain't likely that we'll find a cave, so it's best we start buildin' something in the safest spot we can find now."
If the party can stop, Halorn will do a quick scouting run around on his horse and see about finding the best sheltered location to camp for the night.

Halorn, Horatius and Joy are looking for a decent place to hide from the storm. The fir trees are nowhere near, but you do find a lower part (=crevice?), similar to where you found the towers, that can keep you relatively safe from the cold. While making camp, you find the temperature dropping tremendously due to the increasing winds and snow that's sticking to everything.
The goblins are quite unhelpful during the setting up of the camp.
They either argue with each other or mock you guys for doing all the work.
"We can't help! We are rope.. with rope.. catchered? Euhm..."
The goblin scratches his head.
Perhaps if we moved to a group of fir trees...
I also require (in spoiler) Fortitude saves for the hour you're setting up camp, for being unprotected in weather below 40° F (4°C).
If you don't succeed (DC15), please make a dice roll for 1d6 nonlethal damage.Gobbo 1: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 = 21 // 1d6 ⇒ 5
Gobbo 2: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8 // 1d6 ⇒ 5
Gobbo 3: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15 // 1d6 ⇒ 6
Gobbo 4: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9 // 1d6 ⇒ 2
Gobbo 5: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16 // 1d6 ⇒ 5

The goblin that has been tied to the horse all day faints from the cold, as his body can't take anymore. The others prod and bite him, but he doesn't wake up.
Jory Redcap

Jory stealthily approaches the goblin on the horse and wraps a winter blanket around him. He tries to escape notice, as his reputation as the enforcer is at stake.

Horatius is glad they have found terrain that will aid them in avoiding the worst of the oncoming storm. Moving into the ravine with the rest of the group he assists Halorn in improving the area near one of the walls to provide as much shelter as possible. Working together the party pile rocks and snow to make crude wind breaks and then scavenge what wood can be found to get a small but welcome fire going.
He then assists Yuki in herding the goblins back against the ravine wall where they will be protected from the wind and easier to guard. He is dismayed to find one unconscious but happy to see one of his fellows has wrapped him in a blanket. Gently lifting the creature he places him close to the fire, checking on his condition once he does so.
Gazing at the snow that falls more heavily by the moment in the days dying light he takes a moment to appreciate the beauty of the sight.
"Like so much of untamed nature it is both beautiful and deadly."
Bringing his attention to the task at hand he says,
"Tiasar perhaps it would be best to cast your spell now on anyone effected by the cold or, barring that, on whomever is most susceptible. My suggestion would be for Jory, Halorn and I to take turns at watch so our spell casters can refresh their abilities."
Seeing things are about as ordered as can be hoped he steps away from the group a bit and goes to one knee. He draws his sword and bow placing them carefully before him and then grasps his holy symbol. Bowing his head he gives thanks to Erastil for the victory granted today and prays that the Deadeye grant him the strength to stand against the darkness to come.
Perception to see Jory - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Fortitude save vs cold - 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Heal check T10 to stabilize the goblin if needed - 15
Yukie
|
Yukie does her best to help set up camp, though she can't do much heavy lifting, and keeping an eye on the goblins remains her priority.
Her brow furrows when one of their small prisoners falls, and one of the others silently appeals to her. She takes a moment to approach Andre, leaving Jory a moment to escape her notice. "Do you still have the power to heal? I hate to abuse your goodwill, but I'm afraid if this one is not brought back on their feet, they may not make it through the night," she says in a worried tone.
Later, Yukie will attend to her own "lodgings". She intends to use branches to shield herself from the snow as well as possible, and she and her tiger will be sleeping more or less huddled together, so as to share body heat.
Fortitude (VS cold weather, Yukie): 1d20 + 2 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 5 + 2 = 24
Fortitude (VS cold weather, Aiko): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Poor Aiko! So unless you grant the tiger a big bonus for having actual fur or something:
Nonlethal damage (Aiko): 1d6 ⇒ 2
And just in case that can net me some relevant information:
Knowledge: Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Tiasar
|
Tiasar nods to Horatius, then seeing no person has succumbed to the cold yet approaches Yukie. "As of right now it appears Aiko is the only one suffering from the cold. I am rather ignorant of creatures such as him (her?), so unless you think it is rather serious I'm going to wait to see if anybody else suffers from the cold before using my spell on him (her?)"
| DM Rickmeister |
I will need a consensus about what to do with the goblins. Where will they stay? I've uploaded a crude map, place yourself within the lines please :)
Halorn Zakok
|
Halorn builds as large a lean-to against one of the walls of the crevice using the longest bare branches as the framework and using the branches with more leaves as the actual roofing material. He puts priority on building enough shelter space for his mount before himself, but hopes to complete shelter for both of them.
Adding in cold weather clothing for Halorn. Not adding any survival bonuses.

My post has disappeared will redo it
survival to find wood for bonfire: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
fortitude save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
damage on cold: 1d6 - 5 ⇒ (2) - 5 = -3
Andre will gather everyone together.
I have just a couple of healings for today that can be used on everyone. I can use those now and tomorrow after prayers my god will grant me more power. I also have the ability to start fires so if we gather enough loose materials I can use a flame jet to make them burn.
Looking at Yuki Andre will pull out a winter blanket.
Have the goblins all huddle together and get under the blanket. Their body warmth as well as being under the blanket should help. I also have a set of cold weather gear if anyone needs it. I should be able to survive the cold well enough
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 6
Total healing for all = 8
Horatius Lartius
|
Horatius makes his way to Halorn as he's finishing up his lean-to.
"Halorn you seem to be the most skilled at survival of all of us. Perhaps if we were to move about our camp a bit and improve the layout a bit we could improve our fellows chances against the cold."
Horatius will try and assist Halorn in a Survival check to provided a +4 fort bonus to as many as possible (starting with those with the least bonus currently including Goblins and animals). He'll recruit as much help as we can if others feel like throwing an assist roll.
Survival (assist) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Also I moved Horatius to roughly the area he'll be fortifying against the cold. His thought is to pack the goblins into the inlet there, build some wind breaks/lean-to and get a fire going.
| DM Rickmeister |
Halorn, you can roll a survival with a plus 2 from Horatius. Every point you get above 15, you can give someone a +4 to their fortitude.
Everyone: the map is up!
Yukie
|
Yukie seems glad that Tiasar is sharing her concerns about her tiger. "Indeed. She has lived in a snowy forest most of her life, but this coming storm is one of the harshest we've seen yet." She then notices Jory sneezing. "Aiko is strong, however. I will accept your aid if Jory refuses it, but if not, I know she will endure." She caresses her tiger's fur reassuringly.
She beams at Andre. "I admire your generosity. It would be too large for the goblins, unfitting for Aiko, and I am well-prepared myself, but perhaps someone else shall take you up on your offer." She looks to the rest of the group.
She lets the goblins decide how to use the blanket themselves. "I will not tuck them in," she quietly jokes to the cleric. "All I hope is that we will not wake up to see one hogging all of it." She briefly considers nailing their blanket to the ground with pitons, but that might be overkill.
Halorn Zakok
|
Halorn works to build a group shelter area, with fire and appropriate sheltering from the wind. He does his best to make sure that it fits the party plus the goblins. As party members begin to help, he starts falling into his old role and barking orders like a sergeant, "Put that there...No! Over there you lunkhead..!"
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
| DM Rickmeister |
What do you do with the goblins?
After fifteen minute, the goblins start complaining and whining that they are hungry. The start throwing snow if you ignore them, whail like banshees, starts fighting amongst themselves, etc.
Yukie, when you pass, they turn their attention on you.
"Mistress, misssstresss!!"
"We so hungry misssstressss!!"
"Halp!! HALP!!"
"Tummy growls! "
"Tummy is tiger!!"
"Aekii taste good?"
"Maybe in fire, Aekii change into chicken?"
"Save me! Them wantz to eat mey!"
Yukie
|
Yukie takes a moment to assist Halorn however she can in fine-tuning the camp's layout. While she feels she didn't help much in setting it up, she hopes to make up for it now.
But as expected, the goblins grow restless. Their cries give the tian woman pause. "Chicken... does not work that way," she remarks, raising a hand to her mouth. She signals for them to wait while she retrieves the rations Ragna left them from (I'm assuming) Halorn's horse. She lets those who behaved (relatively) well eat first, and quietly lets it slip that while she's feeling nice tonight, tomorrow goblins who displease her may have to eat rations that taste just like horse droppings.
She also takes a moment to eat and feed her tiger before going to bed, using magic to warm and flavor her ration. She offers to do the same for anyone who decides to have a meal before sleep, too.
Unless someone suggests otherwise, Yukie has the goblins sleep in the center of the camp, not far from Aiko and her. If they wish to escape, they will have to go through the others. If they decide to slit my throat, they will have to go through Aiko.
And casting Prestidigitation to heat and/or season the rations, too!
| DM Rickmeister |
"More.. Pliez? Pliz? Pease?"
"Mhmmmm yummy!!"
"Can I have more?"
"Horse.. what? Horse drop dead, we can turn it into chicken too?"
"No mistress, everyone behave!"
"Mistress has magic, mistress make chicken?"
"More!!! MORE!!"
"Me still hungry still."
"Ruak behave if Ruak not hungry!"
Horatius Lartius
|
Rising from his prayers Horatius walks about camp checking on his companions and prisoners. Finding some are suffering from the cold he encourages them to warm up by the fires Halorn has gotten started.
| DM Rickmeister |
Andre, this is untyped non-lethal damage, without the "cold" subtype, so I'm afraid you will take the damage.. And subsequently heal it.
Andre Xanderz
|
I will go with your ruling but I do disagree for the rules state that a player who has suffered cold and exposure damage when talking about it in the rules. Kinda like saying a person being cooked over a fire doesnt suffer fire damage but unnamed damage.
Andre puts on his cold weather gear.
Yukie
|
Yukie has managed to be a wellspring of patience with these goblins, despite the headaches, but they are starting to abuse it. While they grow louder and beg for seconds, she mutters an incantation under her breath and performs some hand signs.
Her tone and eyes suddenly grow colder than the ambient air, and suddenly... Yes, she's towering over them! "Enough! I shall remind you that you are our prisoners, not our guests. You will eat the same rations as everyone else." Her hood swings back and her hair flies in the wind while snow swirls around her body, and a shadow seems to be cast over her visage... and just as quickly as it came, she dismisses the spell and returns to her original appearance. "And with this, I wish you a good night," she says with a warm voice and a polite bow.
She turns to the rest of the party. "I, um, apologize if I just caused a commotion."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 + 4 = 22
A "general purpose" intimidation roll if that's even a thing. Otherwise, I guess treat it as an attempt to demoralize. +4 bonus for being larger than them. Enlarge person was unnecessary to get the bonus, but heck, it's flavorful and cool.
| DM Rickmeister |
All right, the night sets in and all is quiet, except for the snow storm raging overhead. The goblins appear to settle down, exhausted from the long march.
Can everyone tell me what they do after 'dinner'? Taking watch, praying, sharpening blades, etc etc.
Andre Xanderz
|
Andre will offer to take a middle watch 2 or 3. He doesn't need a straight rest and is more accustomed to the cold especially with his cold weather gear on.
He will also make sure that the goblins are well protected from the cold and wind.
| DM Rickmeister |
.. I'd better specify: After dinner and during the night :)
Jory Redcap
|
Jory spends his time watching the goblins to make sure they are OK, but ready to beat them senseless when they step out of line. He is a complex dwarf (possibly with a complex).
Horatius Lartius
|
Horatius will take first watch leaving the later ones for Dwarven darkvision...for what it's worth in the storm.
Horatius finds a spot to sit that gives him a view to either side of the camp. The heavy snows make the effort almost pointless but he holds to his duty none-the-less. As he sits he reviews his gear making sure it has all survived the combat and journey in good order.
From time to time he rises, shaking off the snow that has begun to accumulate on him, and walks the perimeter gazing out into the snow and shadows beyond the firelight.
He continues the routine until he feels the time for the next watch has come. Stretching his muscles and stamping his his feet against the cold he walks over to awaken Andre.
Horatius kneels down beside the Aasimar, "Brother Xanderz" he says quietly touching the clerics shoulder. When his eyes focus on him he continues, "The time for second watch has come. Before I rest for the night let us see what the goblins may know about the stilyagi and the Shadow Lodge.
Yukie
|
Before sleeping, Yukie takes advantage of the moment's respite from the goblins to go meditate a bit. Before doing so, she fashions a crude little gate-like structure out of short branches, twigs and twine-- called a torii, if anyone bothers to ask or has seen one before. She meditates in front of it for a few minutes and briefly chats with whoever hasn't gone to sleep already before doing so herself.
It doesn't seem like the group needs more volunteers for the watch, but if it does, she and Aiko will take the last.
| DM Rickmeister |
The following morning, after the storm has subsided, you are in for a rude awakening (if bedding down
with goblins in your midst wasn’t bad enough). A pack of wolves seems to have found your campsite and are desperate enough to attack despite the fire to ward off predators.
The Frostfur goblins appear to be unafraid of the wolves.
Wolf 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Wolf 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Wolf 3: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Tiasar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Jory: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Horatius: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Yukie: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Andre: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Halorn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Wolf 2: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6 > 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Wolf 3: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 = 9 > 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Tiasar gets bitten (3dmg), but the others seems to miss. They are growling, and intent on killing!
| DM Rickmeister |
Spoiler me what you did during the night shift.
Walk around, eat, sing a song, keep the fire on, venture up out of the gully, take a pee, ...?
Tiasar
|
ok by 'awakening' do you mean literally woke up? as in my spells aren't prepared? either way I know I still have a color spray ready
Tiasar yelps in pain as the teeth dig into him. He reaches into another sand pouch, but this time takes out red yellow and blue sand. He throws it up into the air and shouts "Duerstra mieta!", and the sand explores forward towards the wolves
Catching as many of them as I can in a Color Spray. DC 16 will save
Halorn Zakok

During the night Halorn mostly continues to make sure that the shelter stays intact against the weather.
And should I belong somewhere in the initiative order in the GM status or am I still asleep?
| DM Rickmeister |
At all: Don't forget that you normally haven't put your armor on, weapon belt strapped, etc. No new spells yet either, except for Yukie (sorcerers don't need prep time, right?)
Horatius Lartius
|
Didn't hear back from Andre, not sure if he saw my comment or not but either way Horatius would be doing the following (in addition to the actions mentioned earlier)
While Andre composes himself Horatius makes a circuit of the camp adding wood to each fire and confirming that his companions, including animals, all seem to be sleeping as well as can be expected. Seeing everything appears in order he checks on the goblins picking out the one named Kaekii.
Gently rousing the goblin and indicating he should stay quiet, he brings him to one of the fires to put some distance between them and the other goblins. Sitting Horatius takes out a trail ration absent mindedly tearing off small pieces from time to time as he talks.
"You spoke for your people when Mistress Yukie asked questions. You are their little boss correct? I have a few questions but only someone important to the tribe would be able to answer them so tell me Kackii are you an important leader in your tribe?"
I'm not quite sure of the best way to go through the questioning phase. I guess I'll load up some questions and add in follow ups based on his responses/actions. Overall Horatius will follow leads the goblin might drop and won't push topics that seem to agitate him too much (to avoid him getting loud). He'll keep the rations in sight only picking at them slightly.
"I had thought so. What was your clan doing when they were captured?"
"Was this a task given to you by your big boss? It sounds like you served him well and yet he left you?"
"What can you tell me about this boss?
If he indicates he might be working for the Shadow Lodge he'll add the next two questions, if it sounds more like he works for the witches then Horatius will reverse them to be "Pathfinders" and "Shadow Lodge"
"What do you know of the Winter Witches?"
"What of the stilyagi?"
If Kackii becomes unresponsive or agitated Horatius will say something to the effect of :
Seeming to consider the food in his hands for the first time Horatius says, "Kackii it is no easy thing to be the little boss. I understand that you need to keep up your strength to lead them, but you must understand that I need answers to my questions. Why don't you take this while we talk some more." Assuming some form of agreement on his part Horatius will give him the ration. Even if it's not needed to keep him talking Horatius will give it to him at the end of the talk by way of thanks.
The interview over Horatius returns the goblin to get some sleep with his fellows. Leaving Andre to the watch he then turns in himself, the answers the goblin gave turning in his mind as he drifts to sleep.
Horatius would be wearing his armor to sleep (light armor FTW) and would have unbuckled his weapons laying them on the ground next to him.
At this point is the rest of the party awake? Also is the storm continuing or has it slowed/stopped?
