"Fine, we can do this in a day; I can make scrolls of aggressive thundercloud and summon monster II and we can worry about backfilling later," says Sama.
"If you can scribe scrolls using someone else's spell abilities, perhaps we should collaborate as well."
If I have scrolls of bless and divine favor (both of which do what is necessary at level 1) I could save my spell slots for actual healing. Or we could make scrolls of cure light wounds.
| Sama Kattan |
As far as I know, cooperative crafting is still a thing in PF.
"Depends on how much time you wanna spend. Also remember if we are going underwater at some point, scrolls maaaaay not make it through that. Heck, I have to figure out how to protect my spellbook."
| Boudacia |
"A very good point Sama. It may be an idea to copy the spellbook and leave the copy with a trusted person. Maybe High Mother Sarise Dremagne. It means if your spellbook is lost or destroyed it is still a disaster, but not an irreversible one. You still need a way of keeping the spellbook you take safe underwater however. Maybe we should concentrate on steps to take before returning to the Spire. Longer term plans can be discussed in the hours spent journeying there."
As regards your spells Gansu, maybe we should invest as a group in a wand of CLW or maybe better, Infernal Healing, which is more efficient at healing HPs. That will heal all the HPs we need and you can use your spell slots for other purposes. Then again, if some of the spire is flooded, it may have injured, friendly, small cetaceans. In which case you could use you spell slots for other porpoises.
| Aldhranhald |
Aldhranhald starts to say something and then chokes slightly, bursting out into a wracking cough. "Ka, ka, ka, kaff..." As he recovers he gathers himself, taking a deep breath and says, "Sorry, my excitement to talk interrupted my need to swallow, and, well, you saw the result. What I was going to say is, waterproof bags. I used to have one myself. Many cultures make them out of sheep bladders, a very handy thing indeed. I'm sure there's a craftsman in town that has waterproof bags."

”I have no problem contributing to a fund for healing magics to supplement the wand we already have.” Aldhranhald should have the wand of CLW we found that started out with 20 charges.
”How does the 20 pp from my share of the two quests sound?”
By the way, someone is wearing that ring of FeatherFall, right?
| Boudacia |
"If a healing wand, of Cure Light Wounds or Infernal Healing is available at normal costs, that would be 75 pp, if we split that six ways then it would leave 45 pp or 71/2 pp each."

”Works for me,” replies BG to Boudacia as he finishes the rest of lunch. ”Ready to go shopping?”
BG will just buy a few things for now—restocking his supply of Dwarven Stout and trail rations, plus getting some flasks of alchemist fire in case there are more spider webs to deal with...
Brother_Guiness
|
As far as BG is concerned, shopping, a good dinner, a restful night’s sleep, and a stout breakfast is all he plans before gearing up and heading back to the Spire in the morning. He will probably check the postings at the Victory Fountain to see if we missed anything (ahem, If Stormstrider wants us to pick up another quest or something), though.
| Aldhranhald |
I agree Aldhranhald is the most likely candidate to carry the CLW wand, as it would give him something proactive to do during combat, especially since with his new teamwork feat, he can move freely about the combat field and not worry about taking AoOs. :)
After skarfing down his own meal, and leaving a decent tip for the waitstaff, in homage to Tamlara who used to work here, Aldhranhald stands up, and says, "Well, I'm off to the book store (cannot remember the name of it for the life of me). Anyone that cares to join me can. Otherwise I'll plan on meeting you all back here at dinner time?"
| Sama Kattan |
"If I'm to make scrolls, I'll need to purchase some supplies, and rent a quiet space with good light where I can work undisturbed for the day," says Sama. "No kids tugging at my sleeves or gawkers coming to stare at the wind-wizardess at work."
Sama daps at her lips with a napkin and pushes back her chair. "I'd best get started. Aldranhald, let's go visit the book-seller and see if I can puchase some necessary inks and paper."
| Boudacia |
"Since you are making the scrolls for me, I will meet the cost of those and the rented space. Thank you Sama. Meanwhile I am going to see if I can find a wand of Infernal Healing for sale. See you all soon." With that Boudacia finishes her stout and makes to leave. Wayne licks some of the remaining stout from the cup after Boudacia is finished. Those watching closely observe the bat makes what could possibly be a thumbs up sign to Brother Guiness with his wings and paws. Wayne then flys onto Boudacia's shoulder.
| Aldhranhald |
Returning to The Helmed Lady just after the evening meal rush, Aldhranhald sits at a large corner booth equipped with a nice bright lantern, to read by of course. He sits and opens one of the new volumes he picked up while perusing the local book sellers. Flora, Fauna, and Topography of the Riverlands, is a ponderous tome with intricate scrollworked leather cover. When the waitstaff approach he makes them aware that he'll have several companions joining him for food and ale, and flips them a gold piece, saying, "Keep the food and ale flowing, we've a bit of celebrating to do." He then buries his face back into the pages of his massive book, turning it sideways at times to look at the maps inside from the requisite angle.
I know this has been discussed, but I couldn't find the post with a quick search. How much gold should each member of the party have from all the distributed wealth?

Brother Guiness has already suggested what he would like to do once they get to town. With the emerald coming in at 30 gp and Kairon leaving, I have calculated the shares assuming we sell the unclaimed equipment at half price (as normal).
Claimed items: Wand of Cure Light Wounds with 20 charges (Gansu). Ring of Feather Falling (to be claimed). Scrolls of Fireball and Fly (Sama). +1 Warhammer (Guiness). Belt of Mighty Consitution +2 (Gansu). Masterwork Dagger (Tamlara). 67.44 gp to Kairon. 349.04 gp to each of the rest of us (use this instead of the 104.02 gp from the previous post).
Stormstrider, let me know if you need me to calculate it any other way...
In response to Aldhrehand’s question, above is the relevant post. Note that Aldhranhald will be carrying the CLW wand, and each of us also gets 75 gp from the completed quests in addition to the above number. This assumes everyone is fine with contribution 125 gp each from quest earnings to buy a healing wand for the party (I think we settled on infernal healing)...
| Aldhranhald |
So 394.04 + 75 gp = 469.04. And that total excludes the 125gp contributed to buy the infernal healing wand. Excellent! Thanks BG!
| Gansu Kaichuta |
Guys... I am willing to sell the belt of mighty constitution if people would prefer to have cash.

I think we should keep the Belt of Con in the party, even if someone else wears it. Perhaps someone with low HP and/or low Fort save...

...are we back at the Spire yet?
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Random weather: 1d100 ⇒ 58
The day breaks upon another hot, sunny & humid summer-time day in northern Golarion.
The (as of yet, nameless) group of adventurers has gotten a good night's rest, some decent meals including a fine breakfast this morning and they take to the road again heading straight for the Spire.
Will they encounter anything as they head through the dangerous & mysterious Echo woods?
Random encounter?: 1d100 ⇒ 12
There is little to no sunlight that comes directly through the treetops, but even in the shadows of the Echo woods, you can all tell when suddenly it gets darker yet. And then you hear the loud Woosh of a very large winged creature passing by overhead and you realize whatever it is, it is large enough to block out the sun if you were able to see it. It flies on by and you hear or see nothing else of it. Considering the stories you have heard of the dragon living in these woods, you have a HUGE sense of relief upon not hearing it or seeing it.
So, there is a 10% chance for an encounter. I use 1-10 on d100. With a 12 I figured I had to put in a 'close' encounter just for fun & flavor ya know?
Upon reaching the meadow surrounding the Spire, you recall the apparently random portals opening to other planes. The group again chooses to rush across the most direct line. Your luck continues to hold out as you safely make it to the entrance to the Spire. It is now about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The group decides to press on & heads straight back down to the 2nd level, right to the room with the 20ft hole that they suspect leads down to the 3rd level.
Don't forget there is a ladder in the side of this hole going down. Room B12 on the map.
What is the group going to do next? 4 pm
Brother_Guiness
|
Brother Guiness looks around at the rest of the group, thankful they made it back to the Spire with a minimum of fuss. Nodding to the others, he takes a firm grip on the first rung of the ladder and starts slowly climbing down, pausing from time to time to scan below him (with his dark vision).
| Boudacia |
Boudacia turns to bat form and she and Wayne fly down with Sama.
Stormstrider- I can't find my character's picture on the combat map.
Sorry about my IT ineptitude. And I am working on a suitable name for the group. You can trust me.:) How about Bats Undoing Monsters in the Spire, BUMS for short?

Boudacia, in this case it was NOT your IT ineptitude. I could not find your icon either! I had to go back to the map of the first level & copy it from there. And ... BUMS, yes that sounds about right! Hahahaha! Funny!
When BG gets about 30 ft down the ladder, he can see it continues for another 60 ft or so before reaching a landing. He can also see what appears to be three more of the big nasty spiders down there.
| Gansu Kaichuta |
Once Brother Guiness declares the area below clear, Sama steps off the edge and lightly floats down to the floor with her dwarven friend.
If you are casting feather fall, you can cast it on 3 people. It would be handy if you picked two more people. Also one other person has the ring of feather fall. :)

My air supremacy class feature is at will but self-only.

Brother_Guiness
|
Brother Guiness stops climbing down, thinks for a moment, then carefully climbs back up. Once he is again at the top of the pit, he quietly appraises the others of the tactical situation.
”I got about 30 feet down the ladder and saw a landing below, with three of those spiders on it—what did you call them—right, Moon spiders.”. Turning to Aldhrenhald, BG continues, ”The reach of my dark vision is about 60 feet, and you said those spiders have some kind of sense that allows them to feel movement of creatures touching the ground, but they didn’t react to me. Perhaps I was out of their range.”
Thinking again for a moment, Brother Guiness suggests, ”Perhaps Sama and Boudacia have some spells that can damage them and flush them out of this really deep pit, with Gansu and I tethered securely up here to meet them in melee when they come over the edge, and with Tsmlara and Aldhranhald ready to fill them with arrows from a safer distance. I don’t know how fast they climb, and they can do that creepy fog thing, though, so that may not be the best tactic. Anyone else have an idea?”
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
By the way, there are a LOT of flammable webs in the pit making sight difficult. . . . Flammable, cough, flammable, cough cough. ... Something wrong with my throat typing today apparently ... ;-)
Oh, and BG, something about one of the spiders did appear ... wrong? somehow? But from that distance you have no idea what it was. ;-) Let's just throw a little more curiosity/'fuel' into the mix just for the fun of it.
| Sama Kattan |
I guess since Brother Guiness didn't finish going down the stairs, I presumably never stepped off the edge. One hopes. :)
"I can summon one of those angry thunderclouds again," says Sama. "Might inflict a little havoc down there. But if I can't see them I won't be able to make it chase them if they run away."
| Boudacia |
Boudacia and Wayne move out of the pit, taking a look to see if they can locate the spiders more precisely first.
Perception, Boudacia: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Perception, Wayne: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
| Aldhranhald |
Perception Take 20: 20 + 10 = 30 31 when looking for traps
"Looks an awful mess down there..." Aldhranhald says, standing athwart the ladder at the edge of the pit with his lit quarterstaff sending light as far down as it can go. "Did I ever tell you all about my dwarven artificer friend's device that could send a gout of flame about thirty feet in a straight line? The thrower of flame, he called it, or burner for short. Frustrating thing only worked about half the time, but when it did work, boy, was it fun." Aldhranhald muses, thinking such a device would be quite useful at this particular moment.
Brother_Guiness
|
”That is a pretty deep pit, full of those nasty webs. I have several alchemist’s fire flasks I bought for this kind of situation. I suppose we could just burn the webs with a torch and see if that flushes out the spiders.”
”If they stay below, we can drop the alchemist fire to light them up for spells and arrows,” adds BG.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
With a light source, you are able to barely make out the shapes of 3 spiders through all the thick webbing. One of them does indeed look wrong somehow and after observing for a while you finally realize, it has not moved at all since you started observing it. Then it finally dawns on you the reason it looks wrong, it is upside down & with all its legs curled in on top of its body! Possibly dead? At that moment you see one of the other spiders move over to it and do ... something? Possibly feed off of it?
Again, keep in mind it is 90 ft down & seeing through a LOT of webbing! Very difficult to see.
Brother_Guiness
|
So, guys, what do you think about taking cover behind the doors (like BG is doing on the map now -- 3 doors = room for all of us), then have someone throw a lit torch onto the pit webs, then we hold missile weapon attacks and wait for the spiders to crest the edge? After that, BG is willing to go into the room and engage them in melee. If we are good with that, I will move the figures (if you like).
| Gansu Kaichuta |
"That odd one... could that be the body of one of the ones we killed earlier?" Gansu asks.
"The easiest way to deal with an enemy that far down is just to drop things on them. We could get the lids from some of those stone sarcophagi in the room to the northwest, and then on the count of three we could drop a few of them down the hole. We might get lucky. At the very least they probably won't be standing under the hole after that."
A sarcophagus lid would probably count as a large object and would do 4d6 damage if it falls on one of the spiders.

”That sounds like fun. Great idea, Gansu! And if the webs are stronger than they look and hold up the lids, we can just light the webs on fire and the lids will fall, flaming as they go! I’m in!”. Brother Guiness smiles at Gansu and heads off to get a Sarcophagus lid...
| Boudacia |
"Squeek, squeek, squeek squeek squeek squeek."
Translated from Mexican Short-Tailed bat, that is "A good plan. While the spiders are climbing I will hit them with my hexes."
Brother_Guiness
|
Okay, guys, let’s try Gansu’s plan. I figure we can probably get 3 sarcophagi lids and stand them up on end at the edge of the pit—one for Gansu, one for BG, and one for Tamlara and Aldhranhald. BG can give an Alchemist Fire to Wayne to drop from above, and Sama & Boudacia can be ready with their magic. We can time it on the count of three (just like the holy hand grenade), tip over the lids and drop the fire, and hopefully send flaming stone and webbing down on the spiders!
BG moves to put Gansu’s plan into action.
Sama, Tamlara, Aldhranhald—speak up so we can get this battle started!

Hello...oh....oh....Anybody our there...ere...ere?
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Me here ... but weekends are almost ALWAYS S ... L ... O ... W.
| Gansu Kaichuta |
"All right... let's start moving those sarcophagus lids. That may take some time. Perhaps some of you should remain here to keep watch in case they start to climb up. Come fetch us if they do."
I figure BG and I can be the "movers" and haul the lids to this room. Assuming nothing else happens, ready to give it a shot.
| Boudacia |
I have been checking the thread. But Boudacia is currently a bat, so all I have to say is "squeek".
Brother_Guiness
|
Sounds like 3 of us are in on the plan, waiting on responses from the other three. How long do we wait until silence implies consent?
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Brother Guiness & Gansu start hauling the very, very, VERY, heavy sarcophagi lids one at a time between the two of them. They are not certain at how well any one individual in their party will fare when it comes to trying to hold them up on edge one and do any kind of controlled drop ...
Brother_Guiness
|
Huffing and puffing, Brother Guiness helps Gansu get the lids into place. "I suggest we will need two people per lid to balance correctly and tip at the same time. They are...heavier than I thought."
Perhaps Gansu balances one with Tamlara's help, Brother Guiness balances one with Aldhranhald, and Boudacia and Sama stay ready with their spells.
Brother Guiness gets ready with his part of the lid, but first he gives one of his alchemist's fire to Wayne, saying with a wink, "Have fun."
"As to the magic, Sama, I trust you and Boudacia to handle your own spells to best effect. I am just trying to not get pulled down that deep pit by any more of that blasted webbing!"
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
... Brother Guiness gets ready with his part of the lid, but first he gives one of his alchemist's fire to Wayne, saying with a wink, "Have fun."...
Very interesting idea, but as I understand it, Wayne is a very, very, small bat, I think the correct size terminology was diminutive if I am remembering right Boudacia? I'm fairly certain he would not be able to carry a 1 lb flask as it would most likely weigh more than the bat itself! Hahahaha!
| Boudacia |
"Mexican free-tailed bats are on average 9 cm (3.5 in) in length and weigh approximately 7–12 g (0.25–0.42 oz)."- from Wikipedia. That is actually a medium sized bat.
1 pound=453.592g.
Male Mexican free-tailed bats are a bit smaller than females, so Wayne probably weighs about 9g. Which is about 1.98416% the weight of the object you want the poor little guy to lift. Not likely imho.
| Gansu Kaichuta |
"Well, we can't properly aim these things anyway. None of us can see that far down in the dark. Unless... if we drop a lit torch down first, we could then see what is at the bottom."
Brother_Guiness
|
Sorry, I envisioned Wayne as an unusually large and intelligent bat (one for two, I know). By the way RAW puts diminutive creatures at 6” to 12” in size and 2 ozs to 16 ozs weight. Someone else is welcome to use the Alchemists Fire or just a torch—I expect the webs will ignite quickly and we won’t want to be peering over the edge trying to aim at that point. I suggest a simultaneous ignition and lid drop, then back away.
| Gansu Kaichuta |
As a diminutive creature with a STR of 1, Wayne can carry 0.75 lbs as a light load, 1.5 lbs as a medium load, or 2.25 lbs as a heavy load. Alchemist's fire weighs 1 lb. so technically he might be able to do it though he would be encumbered.
The other problem is Boudacia trying to explain what she wants Wayne to do since they don't have a common language and this isn't a trick he knows. You don't get the "speak with master" ability until 5th level. You can try to push a trained animal with a DC 25 handle animal check and Boudacia could probably take 20 since we are not in combat, and with Aid another checks from other characters taking 20 ought to work.
