Tamlara |

Stormy fixing all my boo-boos. . .
Hmm. Yes, thank you for all of that help, guys. If you couldn't tell, I was very tired last night. And yes Stormy, that extra 6 points really helped!
Taking another look around after she puts an arrow in the spider, Tamlara tries to make sure she hasn't missed anything important. . .
Tamlara Perception check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
She figures she has it pretty well covered.

Sama Kattan |

I don't have enough range to hit it with jolt unless we do the water trick that was in the discussion page. If we aren't doing that, then I'm just hanging out unless the spider happens to climb out and I can take a shot at it.
Readied jolt touch attack, into melee: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 = 2

The All-Seeing Eye. |

I'm gonna wait for Gansu to roll that Perception check to see how that goes before I continue. Something semi-important I am hoping someone will find out. Aldy? I'll check the thread but seems like you had made a knowledge check a while back on these spiders? Do you remember anything there? *** It will be green Spidy's turn at that point.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"What are you guys looking at?" Gansu asks.

Aldhranhald |

Having had a brief glimpse of the spiders Aldhranhald does what he's best at, waits and thinks...
Knowledge Arcana with Monster Lore: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

The All-Seeing Eye. |

These spiders have tremorsense 60 ft. so there is no sneaking or hiding from them (at least as I understand it - if I am wrong please correct me). And sorry, I could not figure out how to get it to go directly to the tremorsense section on that link. Of course I have been up since 7am so that's almost 17 hrs straight now (almost midnight) a full 8 hr workday in a VERY boring/put-you-to-sleep training class, then an hour wait just to give a urine sample for a drug screening (and of course I had been holding it so I would have a sample to give & then sit there for that hour trying to hold it in more!!!!) and then off to my tabletop game which went much later than usual! But at least we killed a red dragon & his rider that were sent to assassinate us and I got to make the killing blow!!! Yay! Sorry, I am rambling on mixing this all together in one paragraph aren't I? Goodnight.

Aldhranhald |

Having one of those lamplight, eureka moments Aldhranhald bursts out, "You won't be able to hide from these spiders Tamlara! They have tiny hairs on their exoskeleton that allows them to sense even the softest movements in the ground around them, even through solid stone, so... There's that."

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Just got home from work. Exhausted. Falling asleep. sorry. I'll try to get a post up later tonight after some zzz's.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Please read my latest post in discussion first! :D
The green spotted spider climbs up the wall 5 ft and then launches a web at Tamlara!
Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Tamlara you can male a Reflex save to try to avoid it! And you do not have to wait for your turn just to be clear.
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 5:
Brother Guiness
Block 1:
Aldhranhald
Block 2:
Blue Spidy
Block 3:
Sama, Gansu, Tamlara, Kairon, & Boudacia
Block 4:

Block 5:
Brother Guiness

![]() |

Brother Guiness draws his axe as he heads into the hallway. Seeing everyone bunched up near the pit and Tamlara valiantly trying to avoid a stringy mass of webbing, he gives a barely audible sigh. ...guess there's no "smoking them out" now...
Conditional post ahead!
If Tamlara makes her save and is not entangled by the web, BG stops by Gansu, crouching down and readying an axe strike against any enemy cresting the edge of the pit (with the intent of letting ranged people shoot over him while providing a shield wall.
If Tamlara is entangled and tethered, BG will instead move the extra square to be adjacent to her and strike at the webbing to sever the nasty spider's tether on her.
In either case, it is a battleaxe attack and damage roll:
BG Battleaxe Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
BG Battleaxe Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Boudacia |

"Here we go again."complains Boudacia in a bored sounding voice. She moves forward, Wayne on her shoulder, and takes up position behind Gansu ready to hex anything spider-like that emerges from the pit.
That is a move action and a readied attack action. If the emerging spider looks like the moon spiders we just fought Boudacia will use the Slumber Hex, if not she will use the Misfortune Hex. Both require a DC 16 will save.
I am pretty sure my readied action triggered when the spider emerged.
Second, Stormstrider called for a KS Arcarna roll about the spiders, so-
KS Arcarna: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
That is it for me, otherwise it is not my turn to act.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

... ready to hex anything spider-like that emerges from the pit. ... I am pretty sure my readied action triggered when the spider emerged...
(Emphasis added.)
Now if you will take a look at my post ...
The green spotted spider climbs up the wall 5 ft
(Emphasis added.)
The pit is 20 ft deep. "Climbing up the wall 5 ft" by no means makes it EMERGE from a 20 ft deep pit. Unless maybe in Australia the word emerge has a different meaning? Emerge = move out of or away from something and come into view. And from where you are on the grid around a hard corner on the wall and a hard corner on the floor for the lip of the pit and going down 15 ft there is no way you have a line of sight. Sorry.
*****************************
Not sure what happened with Aldy? I know he was busy on his other game yesterday (Friday), but no post here? Maybe he didn't realize it is his turn. And he often is not on here over the weekend.I'd rather wait for his post at this point.

![]() |

I think we are waiting on Tamlara to make a save so BG’s action can resolve. You are right, Stormstrider, lots of waiting for people to go this week (round 1 of combat has taken a week so far).
Is there a header or something you can put on the feed so that we know who we are waiting on?

Aldhranhald |

Totally correct, did not even realize it was my turn. As BG said, I thought we had previous actions that needed to be adjudicated before the Initiative came back around. Sorry!
Aldhranhald realizes he'e entirely too much in the way, and having seen Tamlara get stuck with some gooey webs, he runs double move round to stand directly behind her, and waves the light of his staff to try and draw the spiders attention, hoping, maybe they'll emerge :P out of the pit so his friends can hit them with their sharp and pointy things.

Boudacia |

Stormstrider- You are quite right. I should have said a spider appears. C'est la vie. Actualy it's not life. C'est la RPG. :(

The All-Seeing Eye. |

As far as the spiders appearing vrs emerging, ... well, ... they appeared (in the sense of becoming visible) when Aldy pushed open the trap-door, and anybody who looked down into the pit could see them. They were not hiding. At this point it is a matter of party members being willing or not to go to the edge of the pit, to get a line of sight down to the spiders, which also gives the spiders a line of sight to the person looking down of course. Boudacia, you can of course change your held action to say once you see a spider if you want. But from your current position you're not going to see one until it is right up to the edge of the pit anyways.
We are also waiting for Tamlara to make her Reflex save to see if she is entangled or not.
Aldhranhald decides to literally try to back-up Tamlara and runs around to the door behind her which no one has checked as of yet. When he arrives at the door he finds that not only is it shut, but it is also locked!
A locked door?!? in this dungeon full of easy-to-spot secret doors?!?

Tamlara |

Tamlara sees the spider crawling up the wall of the pit, and tries to jump out of the way when the webs come flying at her.
Tamlara reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Tamlara easily dodges out of the way of the web. Brother Guiness, seeing that his friend is okay so far, crouches down and prepares for one of the spiders to come within range of his axe.
The blue-spotted spider then climbs up 5 ft and also launches a web at the tasty-looking red-headed humanoid. He's never tried a red-headed one before. I wonder if they are spicy? ;-D
Blue's ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Need another Reflex save from Tamlara!
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Free action = Reflex save from Tamlara & at any point, in any order the people in this next block:
Block 3:
Sama, Gansu, Tamlara, Kairon, & Boudacia
Block 4:
Green Spidy
Block 5:
Brother Guiness

Tamlara |

Tamlara reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Tamlara, having deftly dodged away from the first web, doesn't even see the second web until it wraps around her.

Tamlara |

My actual turn will have to wait until I get off work. :(

Kairon Daaltin |

The darkwood haft of Kairon's spear clatters on the stone as he looses it. With a few deft steps, he passes between Gansu and Guiness, drawing his scimitar as he goes. In the blink of an eye, his light shield is at the ready on his left arm. Focused and silent, he aims and strikes at the web binding Tamlara.
Scimitar!! attack vs web: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Scimitar!! damage vs web: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
What's this? Another threatened crit?? I'm shocked! (Roll to confirm scimitar critical threat.): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Critical Hit Damage (if needed): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Free: drop spear. Move: 10' due east, drawing scimitar as he goes (+1 BAB). Swift: quickdraw light steel shield. Standard: swing away so we can get an archer able to . . . arch. lol
1) I *think* I got the quickdraw shield right. If not, I'll try to edit it out; we'll certainly forgo it if it isn't legal. :) . . . . And 2) Token assist, please!
Dag-nabbit!! Ah, well. Hopefully the damage will get ya loose, Tamlara. :)

Aldhranhald |

Token assisted. :)

Boudacia |

Boudacia moves a little to her right and then employs the Slumber hex on the "blue" spider.
DC 16 will save to avoid 3 rounds of magical slumber.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Remaining crouching, Gansu presses his hand on his forehead and murmurs a few words.
Casting divine favor.
"Come on out, spider..." he calls.

Tamlara |

"Uuuggghhh!! I hate spiders! I hate webs!! Get me out of these things!"
Tamlara tries to wriggle out of the webs binding her. . .
Tamlara Escape Artist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
but she's a little too freaked out, and just gets more tangled in the webs.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

I apologize for the delay. I have been playing ketchup all day! (Get it? catch-up? ;-) ) In order of occurrence since my last game post;
Kairon, The description of a Quickdraw Shield says: "Benefit: If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you may don or put away a quickdraw shield as a swift action combined with a regular move. If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you can draw a light or one-handed weapon with one hand and a quickdraw shield with the other in the time it would normally take you to draw one weapon. If you have the Quick Draw feat, you may don or put away a quickdraw shield as a free action." (Emphasis added.) That phrase, "If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you can draw a light or one-handed weapon with one hand and a quickdraw shield with the other in the time it would normally take you to draw one weapon." leads me to believe that you cannot draw both a weapon and shield on your move action, unless you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat and I don't see that feat on your character sheet, so I am ruling that you cannot draw both unless someone can show me the contrary.
Kairon slashes at the webs holding Tamlara, but only cuts about halfway through them.
I have added a crude drawing on the lower part of the battle grid to try to illustrate the side view of the pit for determining line of sight down into the pit. I admit I did not think Boudacia would have line of sight to the blue spider, but this shows she does, so granted.
Blue spider Will save vrs slumber hex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
The Blue-spotted spider does not even notice the hex.
The green-spotted spider decides it wants its own meal and so launches a web at Kairon.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
And Kairon suddenly finds himself fighting off the webs!
Reflex save as a free action at any time soon as your able to Kairon!

Dodge the Wicked Web (Reflex): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

![]() |

BG had pre-rolled an axe attack for either a spider or a web strand. If it is okay, I will use that roll now since there is a web strand adjacent to him (attached to Kairon).
Brother Guiness takes in the situation with increasing dismay, then swings his axe powerfully at the web holding Kairon.
Result of previous roll:
BG Battleaxe Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
BG Battleaxe Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
"Gansu, this is going nowhere," he grunts to the tall warrior at his side. "We need to get down there before our companions start toppling into the pit."
BG Wisdom Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Action if his wisdom check is 10+:
Suiting action to words, BG drops his battleaxe and pulls out his 50' coil of rope, holding one end and letting the other drop into the corner of the pit.
Action if his wisdom check is 9 or lower:
"Get your filthy webs off my friends!" shouts BG, as he jumps into the pit, aiming to land on the pesky spider who webbed Tamlara and drive it into the spikes below!
BG Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1
Oh, well, nice knowing you guys...

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Kairon suddenly finds himself thoroughly entangled by the webs! But then the Dwarf straightens & swings his axe completely severing the strand of webbing!
Kairon, you are no longer tethered to the spider, but you are still entangled.
BG, Considering you did what you did before knowing that you had severed that strand of webbing, I will allow you to change your mind if you wish. Please let me know & we will proceed from there.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

BG sent me a message on facebook to go ahead, so here goes!
The sometimes crazy, reckless dwarf suddenly has one of those moments and jumps wildly into the pit! But he stumbles slightly as he jumps and totally misses the spider he was trying to land on, instead falling straight to the spiked floor!
Falling damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 Lucky! The dice taketh away and the dice giveth back!
Spikes attack roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
His armor withstands the spikes not allowing them to penetrate. BG is now laying (Prone), on the spiked floor (Difficult terrain), 5 ft below two of these nasty spiders!
Only 3 damage for such a reckless maneuver?!?! Lucky!

Falling through the air with all the grace and coordination of a walrus in ballet slippers, BG finds himself only slightly injured at the bottom of the pit. Flat on his back and looking up at the spiders over the rim of his trusty shield, he thinks, "Eh, could've been worse..."

Aldhranhald |

Finding the door that he knew was there, but didn't know was locked, locked, Aldhranhald pulls out his picking tools and goes to work.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
I hope this thing doesn't have a fireball trap on it... Aldhranhald thinks as he works on opening the door so he can offer some help to his friends.
If that opens the lock, I'm going to use my move action to open the door as well, so Aldy can get a handle on what's been happening on the other side of the door.

...waiting on Blue Spider, right?...

Tamlara |

Yep, I think so. . .

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Sorry, Paizo was not showing me that there was a new post - referring to Adly's post. Blue spider coming up! - Well, his actions, but he's not coming up when he's got a tasty morsel tethered! :-D
Aldhranhald successfully opens the door only to see the dwarf is missing, Kairon is entangled, but not tethered and Tamlara is entangled AND tethered!
The blue-spotted spider tries to pull his meal down into the pit!
I can't remember what we decided about this before. I'm going with CMB vrs CMD since that makes sense to me, and since Tamlara is entangled which gives her a - 4 Dex I'm applying a resulting - 2 to her CMD.
Blue Spidy's CMD: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Well! Even without the - 2 he still beat hers!
Suddenly Tamlara is yanked off her feet and falls into the pit!
Falling damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Spikes attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
She bounces off the spikes without them piercing her armor! Tamlara now finds herself lying prone on the floor and still entangled AND directly in front of a nasty spider!
Don't forget that this is also Difficult terrain!
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 3:
Sama, Gansu, Tamlara (prone on the floor and still entangled), Kairon (entangled), & Boudacia

The All-Seeing Eye. |

WOW! That was a long & difficult post! Having to keep track of everything and adding all those links! Yowzers! - DM wipes back of his hand across his forehead as he lets out a sigh. :-D

Sama Kattan |

"Uuuugh," says Sama as the spiders once again pull their prey in. "'scuse me." she maneuvers past Boudica and conjures another angry thundercloud over the blue spider!
Casting aggressive thundercloud.
Lightning damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12 (DC 18 Ref save to negate)

Gansu Kaichuta |

"Hey! Jumping into pits is my thing!" Gansu shouts. He jumps off the edge, trying to land somewhere other than on top of Guiness or Tamlara (preferably on one of the spiders)...
[diceAcrobatics]1d20+1[/dice]
Gansu jumps in, landing prone at the bottom of the pit.
Falling Damage (1d6 lethal, 1d6 nonlethal): 1d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 3
Also GM please roll for the spikes.
"Agh... well, a least now we outnumber 'em down here," he says.
Gansu stands and then places his hand over one of his wounds, and a glow emerges from his hand.
healer's way: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
So that was: Move action to jump, move action to stand up from prone (which may provoke), swift to lay on hands.

Boudacia |

Boudacia stands on the tips of her toes so she can get a proper look at the "green" spider, then employs the slumber hex on it, while muttering to herself "If I ever get out of this mucous coloured death trap I am going to turn my mind to devising a preternatural means of exterminating phylum anthropoda."
DC 16 will save to avoid 3 rounds of magical slumber.

Kairon Daaltin |

Utterly dumbfounded by his new friends' . . . tactics, Kairon struggles to bring Sarenrae's power to bear on his own behalf. His baritone rings out ασπίδα της πίστης! as he grasps his ankh.
Concentration (Surely I can focus through some webs . . . .): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 vs DC 16
Then, releasing the symbol of his goddess, he takes up the other end of the rope that Guiness left lying on the floor, and shouts: Get out of that hole, you maniacs! I'll pull you up!
I *hate* dice . . . .

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Love it when Paizo tells me my own post is a new post ... GRRR!
Agressive Thundercloud! WOW! that is an awesome spell for a 2nd level slot! Well chosen!
Blue spidy Ref save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
The blue spotted spider gets so shocked by the lightning that he even forgets and lets loose his tether on Tamlara! I felt like giving a little something extra for his rolling a Nat 1, so he let go of the tether. You're welcome! :-D - Signed, Your Benevolent GM.
*****************************************************
Gansu? I'm not sure how you consider yourself prone since you did not actually roll your acrobatics check? I'll roll it for you just in case.
Gansu's Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Oh well. I tried.
Gansu? I'm not sure where you get the d6 lethal & 1d6 non lethal to falling damage? Is that some ability of yours I'm forgetting? Otherwise it should be 1d6 lethal per each 10 ft. 20 ft deep pit = 2 d6 lethal. So unless I'm mistaken we will just go ahead and call that 7 lethal damage from your rolls. And it is hard to see on the grid, but I am going to roll a d4, 1 = you land under the green spider, 2 = you land on BG, 3 = you land on Tam, 4 = you land under the blue spider.
Where does Gansu land?: 1d4 ⇒ 2 = On BG!
Non-lethal damage to both Gansu & BG: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Spikes attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
You do get a reflex save to try to avoid the spikes. I prefer to allow players to roll their own saves when possible, so I will wait for your roll if you don't mind please. If you don't make the save, then it is 1d4 spikes. *** And standing up will provoke from both spiders!
Blue Spidy bite AoO on Gansu: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Green Spidy bite AoO on Gansu: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
And the blue spotted spider bites right between the cracks of Gansu's armor!
Blue's damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Damage! And I need a Fort save vrs poison!
So, Gansu, I need both a Ref save vrs Spikes, and a Fort save vrs poison.
***************************************
Boudacia, If you look at the drawing on the lower part of the grid you should be able to see that from your current position you could not make a line of sight to the green spider, but if you will step forward 5 ft into the space where Gansu was at, then you could, so I took the liberty of moving you forward on the main section of the grid.
Green Spidy's will save vrs Slumber: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
What? Did somebody cast something? - Sorry!
*********************************************
Sorry Kairon. Tough luck! You can try a Ref save, STR check, or Escape Artist, to get out of the webs!

Was that not a full round's worth of actions? Standard to lose a spell slot, move to retrieve the rope end, right? I *could* finally ready my shield, right?

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Was that not a full round's worth of actions? Standard to lose a spell slot, move to retrieve the rope end, right? I *could* finally ready my shield, right?
Saves I was referring to are for next round if you want to try them. I was trying to make sure you are aware you could. Sorry I wasn't clear.
As to your shield ... being entangled impedes movement and the RAW is you move at half speed. Your not really trying to move at any kind of speed here, but trying to bend over to pick up a rope (Which the dwarf NEVER said he was leaving dropped on the floor?!?!) and at the same time getting your shield off your back and into a readied position, while entangled in a big mass of webs and trying to avoid falling off a ledge into a 20 ft pit while doing all that??? Not too sure about that one. Seems like a DM judgement call is required here. I'm thinking maybe ready the shield, but forget all about the rope that isn't really there? What do you all think? ;-)

Kairon Daaltin |

Nevermind. The post said he dropped the coil **into** the pit, and then jumped in . . . . . I'm as perplexed as my character is . . . .

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Actually, Kairon, if you look at the post, - which I've copied below:
... Action if his wisdom check is 10+:
Suiting action to words, BG drops his battleaxe and pulls out his 50' coil of rope, holding one end and letting the other drop into the corner of the pit.Action if his wisdom check is 9 or lower:
"Get your filthy webs off my friends!" shouts BG, as he jumps into the pit, aiming to land on the pesky spider who webbed Tamlara and drive it into the spikes below! ...
BG's action all depended on the results of his Wisdom check. Since his check was below a 9, he never dropped the rope at all. Sorry, I know conditional posts like that can be confusing, but I like them, - as long as they are posted clearly.

Kairon Daaltin |

My bad. Missed that. *facepalm*

Aldhranhald |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Watching all the shenanigans ensue, Aldhranhald thinks to himself. Self, when this is all over, I shall have to pen a theater production of some kind, based on the unbelievable comedy of errors taking place here. I think I shall call it The Emerald Spire: It's the Pits.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Gansu? I'm not sure where you get the d6 lethal & 1d6 non lethal to falling damage? Is that some ability of yours I'm forgetting? Otherwise it should be 1d6 lethal per each 10 ft. 20 ft deep pit = 2 d6 lethal.
If you deliberately jump downwards the first 10 feet always produces non-lethal damage. Only accidentally falling is lethal for all dice.
Falling
Creatures that fall take 1d6 points of damage per 10 feet fallen, to a maximum of 20d6. Creatures that take lethal damage from a fall land in a prone position. If a character deliberately jumps instead of merely slipping or falling, the damage is the same but the first 1d6 is nonlethal damage. A DC 15 Acrobatics check allows the character to avoid any damage from the first 10 feet fallen and converts any damage from the second 10 feet to nonlethal damage.
Relex Save for Spikes: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Fort Save for Poison: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
