First of all let me say, I AM SO GLAD THAT PAIZO SEEMS TO BE WORKING AGAIN!!!!! :-D
And for future reference, just in case this kind of thing ever happens again, or another way to send PM's or whatever, I have created a Facebook page for this campaign! I have set it as a closed group though so you will need to ask for membership. Please mention your character name so I know who you are when you request the membership. Actually, I have added that as a required question (IF I did it right?!?!) when you ask to join so as to make it easier for you all.
Now, ON WITH THE GAME!!!

Aldhranhald |

Posted this in the facebook group, but DM suggested I put it here as well to get feedback. :)
So... Might it be possible to break the vase off of the statue, and perhaps by adding a few chemical reagents turn it into a sort of projectile gas bomb? Here's my imagination of it. If the statue is medium size, of a humanoid creature holding a vase with arms out front, then the weakest spot on it would be the wrists holding the vase, as that would be the narrowest circumference of actual stone. If I topple the statue over it might break at exactly that spot. Then I could rig a fuse of sorts in the hole where the gas was previously leaking out, light it, throw it, fuse goes boom, gas vapor everwhere. If I could do that and throw *into* the Mouther, it might give us a strong advantage in killing it...? What'd'ya think?

Boudacia |

It is great to see someone thinking outside the box Aldhranhald.
I see some problems however. The gas seems to affect the mind not body. That suggests to me it is less likely to be highly reactive than something that works via a straight forward chemical reaction, like chlorine gas, that works by turning into hydro-chloric acid in the lungs.
Second we know nothing about the gas's chemical composition at the moment [and likely we don't know what a "chemical composition" is.]
Third if BG isn't dead already a big bang will almost certainly kill him.
Fourth, if we do make an explosive it is as likely to go boom when we add the chemicals as when it hits the mouther. And it might not go off at all. :(
On the up side, mixing the gas with chemicals might make it toxic or dangerous to the mouther in some other random way.
I do have detect poison, which does-
"You determine whether a creature, object, or area has been poisoned or is poisonous. You can determine the exact type of poison with a DC 20 Wisdom check. A character with the Craft (alchemy) skill may try a DC 20 Craft (alchemy) check if the Wisdom check fails, or may try the Craft (alchemy) check prior to the Wisdom check. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it."
Now with my wisdom of 9 my chances of making the check are zero. If anyone else has the cantrip, or our GM will allow people to work in conjunction...
I have knowledge nature which might be the right skill to figure out what the gas is. Can't see what else it would be except maybe KS Engineering. Or craft alchemy.
On the campaign I haven't gone away, it was the web site. Will act when it is my turn [and the site is up].

Stormstrider |

Boudacia! :-D I am glad to see you checking in! And you make some very valid points about Aldy's idea. I'm still thinking on that one.
UUUmmmm, not sure why you you say you will act on your turn though?!? It is your turn right now, Your 'block' is acting right now an anybody in your 'block' section of the initiative can act at any point. Please feel free to take your turn!
Also, in case you didn't see it, I have created a Facebook group for this campaignso we have another way of communicating when Paio is down. Please request a membership!
Gansu, please request one as well. You and Boudacia are the only two not there currently.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Sadly, I might have been able to save Guiness with a spell I had planned to take next level:
Foolishly I chose to take bless first. :(

Boudacia |

I have applied to join the group. A bit surprised i remembered my password. :P
It looks like the makeshift bomb plan is moot, the mouther snuffed it.
You are right about the turn thing. There was little I could do anyway. I had tried my hexes and the spells I have were not going to help.

![]() |

Interesting how this is a game that sometimes hinges on the narrowest of margins...BG was taken to exactly his negative Con by the last attack...one point less damage done, one point more healing from that CLW, one point higher attack roll by Gansu on that attack rolled just under its AC—or for that matter, one hp more on my second or third level HP rolls—and the lay on hands works, rescuing BG from the brink of death.
Ah well, that is the way it goes. Brother Guiness, I raise this tankard of Dwarven Stout in your honor!

![]() |

So, I am working on a replacement character. Any suggestions from the group on a role in the party? Do we need a frontline warrior? A dedicated healer? Something else? I am trying to not make just another variant of a heavily armed and armored frontline warrior type (for variety, of course). Thoughts?

Boudacia |

We have two full arcane casters in the party already and two divine casters. The frontliner is a role that isn't really filled since Brother Guiness went to that great brewery in the sky.
It is your character of course, so it is 100% up to you, but a frontliner is what is needed. Actually thinking about it we need someone to go into the front line and stay there, a tank as it were, so a "heavily armed and armored frontline warrior type" ie the type you are trying to avoid, would be perfect. :(
My thoughts at least.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

What Boudacia says is true, though one of those divine casters (Gansu), has been acting mostly like a front-liner so far. Admittedly, until the encounter with the Gibbering Mouther (feel free to look at its info - if you haven't already! {cheaters! ;-) }) there has not been a whole lot of need for healing other party members either, so ... not much need to act like an Oracle in that case I guess huh? :-D
Like I told you in the text, play whatever you will enjoy (within my limitations of character acceptances of course! :-P )!

Boudacia |

Indeed.
But in the final analysis trying to use an Oracle as the parties main frontliner is going to prove a problem sooner or later. Probably sooner.

Aldhranhald |

If I may... I'd like to offer up the Crusader Archetype for the cleric class. The Crusader has diminished spell-casting, choosing only one domain, and fewer spell slots, but in exchange they get access to bonus feats. These feats are taken from a list that is very martially focused. Ergo, the class is very much designed to be a fighting class, but still has the availability of using divine magic, which opens up the ability to use curing wands on themself or others. Just a suggestion. I do think, believe it or not, more divine magic will ultimately be necessary, especially as we approach the low-mid levels (5-8). Just my 2cp, as always, a player should play whatever they will enjoy. :)

![]() |

Thanks, guys. I have gone mostly the way you have suggested, as of course you are correct about what the party needs. I worked on a character last night who is martially focused, but should have both lay on hands and a separate channel energy pool by fourth level. The Hospitaler Paladin also has a few spells at higher level and can use healing wands. I really considered the Cleric archetypes, but since the Paladin healing is all based on Charisma (as opposed to the Cleric which needs both Charisma and Wisdom), it fit better that way. So, yet another backup healer, but primarily a frontline warrior.

Testing...

Testing...
Ummmmm... That looks particularly awesome. :)

Stormstrider |

Sama, thank you for checking in and letting us know. I do wish you would have gone ahead and given your opinion about burying BG at the Stonde farm while you were here, but oh well.

Stormstrider |

Boudacia and Aldhranhald I sent you a PM - nothing gamewise, just asking your opinion on something. Thanks.
And since most all of you have not seen it, I'll just mention that BG has posted a list of his equipment and money and some of his desires of what should be done over on the Facebook Group Page.

Stormstrider |

Boudacia wrote:But in the final analysis trying to use an Oracle as the parties main frontliner is going to prove a problem sooner or later. Probably sooner.True. - Simple and to the point! :-D
The reality is that as we increase in level Gansu will require more buffs to keep up with full-BAB martial classes. He has access to them, of course, which is good. I am particularly looking forward to blessing of fervor and righteous might. But it means that if he wants to use them in a fight he has to have them already going or spend time in combat activating them. I feel this is a good trade-off though when he can also use spells for a host of other things. Eventually I will have quicken spell but that's not for a while.
Gansu is able to do tons of healing so we don't really need more of that. My only regret is that I didn't take the Selective Channel feat at this level. I took Power Attack instead because we had Kairon and I didn't think I needed it. Once Guiness was actually inside the Gibbering Mouther, Channeling was probably the only way I could have healed him, and that would have healed the Mouther as well.
There is also the issue of ability damage which we don't have the ability to deal with yet. Scrolls of lesser restoration may be of use if we can get them. A wand would be even better, but we won't be able to afford that for a while. It is kind of a waste for a spontaneous caster to learn lesser restoration.
Looks all good to me Uriel (formerly known as BG)!
Especially that Divine Grace! Add Cha bonus (+ 5 in this case) to ALL saves!!! THAT IS AWESOME SAUCE!!!
It is amazing, and can be a little broken actually. It is very tempting for Gansu to take a 2-level dip in Paladin at some point to get that ability, but I like spells, so it won't be for a while if I do do that. There used to be a feat from ACG that granted that ability to divine casters (making a level dip unnecessary) but it got badly nerfed to the point that you would probably not bother with it.
It looks like the new character has already been chosen, and a Paladin is a strong class, but were I given the chance to choose a new character I probably would have gone with a ranger. They have good skills (which helps us since Tamlara is also gone), access to a useful spell list, and the Ranger Combat feats make them better than fighters when it comes to feats because they can ignore prerequisites. And then there is the animal companion, which can be awesome if it is done right.
I am actually a big fan of the small character with a wolf/riding dog companion, since the character can use mounted combat even in a dungeon with 5' wide corridors. And the Lance does double damage on a charge, even for small characters.
I have a home game of RotRL and we had a Paladin of Iomedae who used a Longsword and Shield combo. She could soak damage really well and also had amazing saves. But we actually found though that she depended on her Smite ability too much for damage, and when encountering enemies who were immune to smite (such as neutral creatures), the longsword just didn't deal enough damage. She probably should have used a two-handed weapon. Mind you, her scores were not nearly as good as Uriel's.

I have now joined.

Sama, thank you for checking in and letting us know. I do wish you would have gone ahead and given your opinion about burying BG at the Stonde farm while you were here, but oh well.
** spoiler omitted **
I literally have not had more than forty-five seconds free at a time for the last three days.

![]() |

Great points, Gansu. My original character concept did more damage, but was based on the unchained monk class which, when the site came back up, I realized wasn't allowed in the campaign. I figure the longsword can be used 2-H if more damage is needed, but 1-H with the shield to help hold the front line...less about doing damage personally, but more about protecting the casters while they do the damage. And of course, Gansu has the big 2-H weapon...
...although I will change the archetype to a more martial one instead of the healing one, given Gansu's comment about being able to do tons of healing...
Also, note that in the FB group I have posted BG's equipment and cash so you guys can decide what to do with it. ( I recommend burying BG at the Stonde's farm with his armor, shield, and a weapon, but keeping the other items--including the magic hammer found at the Spire--and gold for the party, with the exception of giving some to the Stonde's.)

Gansu Kaichuta |

Oath of Vengeance is a great one for Paladins who want to concentrate on damage more than healing.

Stormstrider |

I just wanted to mention, BG/Uriel's player was the one that had the idea of him coming through a portal (though I don't think he had thought of the random portals in the glade?) and I combined it with Aldhranhald's idea of taking BG's corpse to the Stonde farm, and naturally it just made sense for this to happen at one of the random portals in the glade. So my thanks to BG's/Uriel player for the portal idea, and my thanks to Aldy's player for the idea taking us by the random portal field! - Credit where it is due.

Boudacia |

I just posted, keep your helmet on. :P
Uriel is Hebrew for "the fire of god".

Great news on the job! Congrats!

Boudacia |

Excellent. I hope it works out well.

Stormstrider |

Thank you my friends!
Very happy for you Stormy! You'll have to let us know how the first "day" on the job went! :)
Then, since they both leave at 7:30, they set me up to watch and listen to an agent actually taking calls. Then at least some of the stuff started to make some sense. But calls are really slow coming in. I think from 7:30 pm to 1:00 am we had maybe 20 calls? If that, and all of the calls took less than 5 minutes, some even only like 1 minute or so, which, made for a very boring/slow night.
The good point - which is at the same time a bad point = I was the only guy sitting there talking with 4 young hispanic girls (3 of which were quite pretty!) and then later also an english-only speaking girl who was also very attractive! Of course they were all too young for me - from their point of view! I sure wouldn't mind! :-D Of course I'm NOT going to try anything! But oh well.
The job consists of customers calling to make payments on their electric bill, insurance, taxes, etc. The trainers told me about one client who consist of 'wealthy' customers. For that client we can take credit card payments up to $999,999.99!!! Yes, one penny short of a full million!!! Those customers might be paying for the insurance on their private planes, yachts or... get this! ... kidnapping/ransom insurance!!!! I didn't even know there was such a thing! Most of the other clients payments are only up to $10,000. (Only $10,000? Did I really just say 'only' $10,000 as if that was a small amount? Hahahaha!!!!)
One other interesting thing, of course you have to have a security badge to access the building and your work area. The badge they gave me today works to get into the building, but for some unknown reason will not work on either of the two doors to access my work area! So to come into work and to return from break/restroom/lunch I am dependent on someone noticing me or hearing me knocking! I can see now, I'll get fired for returning late from break! Yay ...
Anyhow, that's all for now folks!

Gansu Kaichuta |

Glad to hear your new job is going reasonably smoothly.
You should check out the movie Proof of Life some time. It is about the Kidnapping for Profit business and K&R insurance is a big part of it.

Stormstrider |

Thanks for that info Gansu. Sounds interesting, I will.
At least when I arrived at work today my badge worked to be able to get into my area now! Yay! One less thing to worry about! But at the same time I no longer have an excuse for returning late from break/lunch! Hahaha! ;-)
And today, there was going to be more training, but they had some change, so the trainer was not available, so I just sat with other employees listening to their calls for the whole EIGHT hours! And in the whole eight hours I only listened to maybe 30-40 calls? Again, 99% less than 5 minutes long. Talk about a BORING day! Oh, well. I guess I can agree to being paid to be bored and do nothing! :-D
And they say Saturdays are even slower! NOT looking forward to it.
BUT! Still very happy AND thankful to have a job!!! :-D

Stormstrider |

No books allowed regrettably. There is a rule for no internet surfing either, but they seem to be extremely lax on that one. Everybody was doing it and the team Sup was standing right there and no one seemed to care. So it seems like - once I get my own desk! Which took about 3 weeks for the most recent hires! - then I should at least be able to keep up with my PBP's easily enough!
Of course it's NOT as if this game were going anywhere quickly! Most of the people in our little group here don't seem to be in any hurry whatsoever to move this story forward (OBVIOUSLY this does not apply to you Uriel!!! - I wish I had more players like you!). ?!?!? Is the story to boring, bad/unknowleadgable(?) DM, just general lack of interest, RL keeping people too busy? What? Is there anything I can do to help? I admit, right now a part of me is tempted to just make a post about the burial and put the party back into the dungeon to the next encounter, BUT I do NOT actually wish to force/railroad the group in such a manner (unless you all tell me that is what you want?)

![]() |

I am fine with speed-playing the funeral. We do need a role-playing reason for Uriel to stay with the party...(I have already started dropping hints)...

Boudacia |

Well, I could change my characters name to Atalefiel, which means the bat of god in Hebrew.
I check the thread nearly every day, usually more than once and post when I have something to say or do.
On your new job Stormstrider, you can try finding out where your company's clients live and then abduct them and hold them for ransom. It will raise more money and also generate new insurance business for your employer.

Gansu Kaichuta |

On your new job Stormstrider, you can try finding out where your company's clients live and then abduct them and hold them for ransom. It will raise more money and also generate new insurance business for your employer.
What could possibly go wrong? :)

Stormstrider |

So, does everybody want me to just go ahead and make a post for the funeral and the honorary drinking party and move on then?
What about BG's stuff? There is a + 1 warhammer, could be used by someone else or sold off?
Also: 1 potion of CLW, 2 Alchemist Fire, 2 potions of CMW, the cat skull with the permanent magic aura (illusion school), knotted rope (40 ft) with grappling hook, and a silk rope are the items that I see worthy of mention. Besides, a Dwarf that carried soap with him! Wow! ;-)
If you want me to just move the game on back to the Spire, I can, and I can even take you into town to sell whatever you want as well, and then right on back to the Spire.
Or does anybody want to do some RP'g for the funeral or town? This is technically supposed to be a roleplaying game after all, right? Honestly, I'm fine either way, just so long as we get something happening here.

![]() |

I expect Uriel to quickly come to the conclusion that there is little he can do to help his friends in the hellish dimension, other than his last act there to give them some time to get to the hiding place until another portal shows up for them. Any secrets about the portals are likely buried in that green tower, and this group here certainly seems like it needs some help (especially with what appears to be their armored tank dead).
Obviously, Uriel has no claim on BG’s possessions or any income from them...you’ll have to get the others’ input...

Aldhranhald |

Okay, first I apologize for holding up the show. Weekend post-ability for me is always questionable at best. Second, Stormstrider, Aldhranhald asked Davon Stonde, what I imagined to be two serious questions. The first, can we bury BG on your property? While Aldy is inclined to think they might be favorable to that, it is far from certain that they will. Sometimes simple folk are wary and superstitious about letting bodies be buried on the same land where they make their living. So, I wasn't going to just assume the answer to that question. The second question, [i]can we stay here a couple days in order to process this physical and emotional loss. Again, Aldy believes that would be a request Davon would grant, but would never assume the answer to be 'yes.' It is, after all, their property, possibly some of their resources we'd be using, and having an armed war party that has traipsed back and forth from the Spire to Fort Craptacular more than once could invite more danger than they are willing to entertain much longer.
Point being, if you want to fast forward things, that's fine. I was just waiting for a couple "yeas" or "nays" from Davon before posting anything more deep in terms of RPing the funeral. :)
As to the possessions, if Aldy was going to take anything from that list you mentioned it would be the silk rope and the alchemist's fire, since he is, after all, an amateur alchemist himself. :)
