Work Migraines:
Stormstider, what state do you work in?

You should probably make sure you are familiar with the labor laws of your state. If that was happening in my home province of Ontario, I know that employers are not allowed to deny an emplyee vacation time below the minimum amount of two weeks per year.

Also, if there are any legal repercussions for you like a wrongful termination suit or something, the fact that you were penalized for sick days taken is spite of policy and that you had documentation will work in your favor.

It seems like a pretty cheesy company you work for though. I've worked for chiselers before but that is pretty bad.

Work Migraines:
Sounds like sensible advice from Gansu. If you worked in Australia I might be able to help with the law, but not so the USA. One word of advice, take some orderly notes of what has occurred, days times events. Keep documents and keep copies of those you can't keep the originals of. It will take a bit of time but will be a lot of use if there is a dispute or you have to set out what happened to some govt department eg to claim unemployment. Your employers sound Kafkaesque and stupid.

Hello eveyone! So sorry I've been absent for so long. We've had more people quit at work recently, and I am working overtime again (rather suddenly in this case). Between that and trying to get to the gym on a regular basis as well as my rl games, I'm afraid I, too am going to have to bow out. I have enjoyed our time together & hope to return in the future when things calm down over here.

Not my friend Tamlara! ... Well, I can't say I didn't suspect this might happen. Just had that feeling. Tamlara you are of course always welcome to come back in the future should you find yourself able to. Same character or different, I don't care (within original creation rules of course!).

I am going to go to bed & cry myself to sleep now. :-(

Did I put a zero instead of an O anywhere in that 'scream'? ;-)

I'm here! See in game OOC post. I have no idea what's going on with Sama, Gansu, and Boudacia. Might just be a little bit of module fatigue? That happens sometimes with dedicated dungeon crawl modules, I've found. They become very repetitive, search, find bad guys, defeat bad guys, search some more, find more bad guys, defeat more bad guys, search some more, find an obstacle, defeat obstacle, search some more... It can get fatiguing. I'm still here, and still having fun. I knew what I was signing up for, and I'll be searching with peeled eyes as long as things need searching. :)

Boudacia, I am going to say that you could fly between the bars, or you could land and crawl through the arrow slits. Now, just because you are able to is that something you really want to do? Go somewhere where you are going to have no party support whatsoever & you have no idea what you would come across? Let me just put it this way, Please don't make my job harder. How does that sound?

Thanks for the warning Stormstrider. I am well aware of the hazards however.

Nothing about the game. Just my stupid ex-job! Feel free to ignore.

Interesting that you ask Boudacia. Before we ever had that meeting to discuss them not accepting that doctor's note I was told that now my job is claiming that I falsified two of my doctor's notes & they put me on unpaid leave of absence while they investigate it!

I have now been out of work for nearly two weeks!

They are saying that the doctor's office won't give them a response to confirm I was there on both occasions, but the doctor's office keeps telling me that they have faxed them a copy of the doctor's note with confirmation on multiple occasions.

So, I have been using the time to look for work elsewhere, which I was wanting to do anyways, just not under these conditions.

Thanks for asking. :-D

The same weekend I was told about the previous, I also started having a bad cough. Finally went to an urgent care, got an antibiotic prescribed, used it as instructed for the 5 days it lasted, it helped some, but cough (with nasty flem) still continues after 2 weeks! Got in to see my PCP doctor yesterday. She had them take a chest x-ray & said everything's fine, just need to tough it out & didn't give me any meds!?!? Not good trying to apply for jobs to talk on the phone & coughing like this!

RL is just being very rough right now. :-P

I have to echo Gansu here. For whatever reason, which is strange considering you just got a promotion of sorts(???), it seems as though your employer is desperately looking to not pay you and simultaneously find fault with your work record. All in all, I'd say finding alternate employment, if at all possible, seems the best course of action.

Battle Grid ***** Treasure Chart ***** Emerald Spire Skills

Nothing about the game. Feel free to ignore. Job loss confirmed.:
Thank you for the well wishes regarding work. It has now been confirmed, they officially terminated me as of 7/7. In a sense I am relieved. Finally out of that stupid place.

At the same time, as most - if not ALL - people, I HATE job hunting! So tedious & repetitive filling out the same paperwork over & over! And then they ask you to come in for an interview, and make you fill out exactly the same things AGAIN! GGGRRR!

And of course this has made my landlord quite happy! (SARCASM PEOPLE!) :-D He basically threatened to have me evicted already, even though I told him I have enough money currently to pay rent for August & September! He does not like me hanging out at the house during the day! I wish I could afford to live somewhere else! But everything I have checked or heard is at LEAST another $100 more & does NOT include all the benefits I have here. I pay $375 for a bedroom that is approximately 8' x 7' I'm estimating and then there is a closet about 2' x 6'. Bed, linens, & a Futon. Oh and a ceiling fan. It includes a good mini-fridge with it's own separate freezer, microwave, a smart TV that's ... 46"? & Wifi. I also pay NO utilities. There is a SMALL bathroom, 6' x 4' estimate? (including the tub/shower) However I share that with the landlord & his wife, & the other renter! So 4 people use that little bathroom. There is no space for me or the other renter to keep any of our hygiene things in there, so every time we go to use it, we must take our things with us. Financially speaking, it is a good deal. Emotionally? Not so good.

And I have not told you of the latest episode with the landlord's wife!!! She has been doing well, staying sober for 8-9 months now, thanks to a pill she has to take that makes her sick if she drinks. Well, last week she skipped her pill & got drunk again! Said a LOT of very nasty things about me at one point, but I try to just ignore that. Then she threw up in that little bathroom, all over the toilet, tub, some of the floor & part of the wall. But she just went back to bed & left it! She didn't even flush the toilet! He didn't even come home that night. When I leaned over the tub to see about trying to at least rinse it, the smell of beer was so strong it made me start to get sick! So I couldn't clean it up even if I had wanted to! It did not get cleaned up until late the next day!

Ah, life is rough. But the other option ain't great either! ;-)

Battle Grid ***** Treasure Chart ***** Emerald Spire Skills

Player question: I feel that most of the time you all are taking out the bad guys too easily, without much of a challenge (most of the time), despite the fact that I have usually been doubling the number of hostiles. Do you think maybe I should either increase their HP or maybe give them another level?

Since I have Hero Lab it is simple for me to do. For example with the current battle, I did not like one of the feats and some of the skills they had (Fighter 1/Rogue 1 and NO POINTS in escape artist?!?!) so I re-did them in Hero Lab, giving them Quick Draw instead, and adjusting their skills to what I thought best. Hmmm ...I just realized: Fighter 1/Rogue 1, so that means they are only 2nd level, while you all are 3rd level! Well! I won't change these guys mid-fight, but the ones you encounter after this will certainly be 3rd level!

Still, do you all think it is going too easy, or not? Do I need to find a way to increase the challenge, or are you all ok with it the way it is?

Stormstrider, it's important to remember, especially in a grinding dungeon crawl, that not every encounter has to be "challenging" from the aspect that death is a real potential outcome. Instead, the challenge comes from the fact that we must use up some of our resources in order to deal with it. Ergo spell slots, ammunition, consumables, daily actions, and so on. Over the course of an adventuring day, a group of players might only ever run into one enemy that presents a "deadly" challenge, i.e. a "boss" fight, but more than likely they will still have had to drain many of their resources on many smaller challenges. Also, sometimes it is nice for adventurers to mop the proverbial floor with their enemies. Likewise, as a DM, I try to throw in the occasional encounter that the PCs have zero hope of overcoming. It creates a much more realistic world when not everything is "at level."

To wit, I think the challenge level so far has been entirely appropriate. Don't change anything on my account. :D Still having loads of fun. Keep up the great work. That Fort save was too close for comfort!!! :P

I concur with Gansu. I sense some of the frustration has to do with BG’s High AC. I built him with that focus, so I am really enjoying the enemy having a hard time hitting him. Of course there is always a balance—if they were sorcerers with readied color spray spells, BG would be nearly useless. One of the cool things about having a diverse party is that we can help each other play to our strengths. BG can soak up some attacks, Boudacia can put them to sleep, Gansu can chop them up and do the healing, Sama can throw the lightning and apparently shoot a mean crossbow, and Aldhrenhald can do the heavy lifting with traps, knowledges, etc...

This link has nothing to do with the game. But just ... um, I am awestruck! Lego + Star Wars! Two of my favorites!

Thanks Mended & BG. I'm glad to hear your ok with it. And BG, first I think you meant you concur with Mended, since Gansu has not posted anything on this so far? (Unless it's in game, which I haven't looked at yet?). And yes, not being able to hit the dwarf has been somewhat frustrating, but, oh well. Let's wait till we get to some real spellcasters!

Funny you should mention color spray. Way back when I ran this on tabletop, (They never went past the 3rd level) but it was a simple color spray that almost did a TPK! ALL the players except one, failed their save! And that one that was left could NOT manage to hit the spellcaster! But at least he kept him busy so he could not coup-de-grace the others and managed to hold on until they overcame the effects of the color spray. It was hilarious!

Still, do you all think it is going too easy, or not? Do I need to find a way to increase the challenge, or are you all ok with it the way it is?

I have no objections to the way things are going.

However there are some things that are worth thinking about:

1. There are six of us. CR for encounters in Pathfinder is balanced for four people. So right off the bat you ought to be amping up enemies by 50%.

2. We have rolled stats. This means our characters are significantly more powerful than normal. Gansu has the equivalent of a 30-point buy. The general assumption for adventures is a 15-point buy. That's a big boost.

3. We have access to more materials. The module was written a while ago, and most modules use mainly material from the Core Rulebook. So while later materials aren't necessarily more powerful, they can fit the concept of a character's actions much better. You are more likely to have the right tool for the job when you have a bigger toolbox.

4. Bad guys with class levels are often designed to suck. Technically guys have the same CR as each other if they have the same level, but here you have a bunch of Fighter/Rogues. Not only are these the two weakest classes from the Core Rulebook, but both classes tend to suffer when they dip into levels of other classes. It sounds like you have bad guys that are deliberately built poorly and they probably should have that factored in.

I tried to build a Fighter/Rogue once, a long time ago. It was hard to make it work. Turns out the Slayer ends up being almost exactly what I was looking for, only it hadn't been published yet.

Don't read if you plan to play Rise of the Runelords:
As an example, The Skinsaw man, one of the major bosses in the second module, was a ghoul with class levels. This is fine in and of itself, but the class he had was rogue, and a rogue depends on having flanking buddies. The Skinsaw man was encountered alone. !!! A rogue without the ability to sneak attack is basically just an Expert (the NPC class). When I ran it I decided I had to give him some minions to make him work a bit better. The party still ROFLstomped him.

If you are using Herolab to redesign bad guys, don't feel constrained by the class combos they have, and use classes from newer materials if you want. Or archetypes.

Thank you Gansu. I really do appreciate all that thoughtful input.

I do want to point out it is only 5 characters now, not six: Boudacia, Aldhranhald, Brother Guiness, Gansu, & Sama. That is why I have been doubling the quantity of hostiles in most cases.

As far as the re-designing of the bad guys, I do want to keep it as close to the original as possible so far. Right now we are low levels anyways. Maybe when we get a bit higher level, I may redo some class options & such.

Nothing to do with our game, feel free to ignore. Me talking about the tabletop game I'm in right now.:

So, we had a party of 5 characters, all 16th Level. Ranger, Oracle/Healer, Fighter/Tower shield defender, Hunter riding a Huge sized Spinosaurus and me, the Psion (similar to a sorcerer).

Long story - short: Helping the Dragons raising/protecting their new leader. ALL dragons in the world, were divided in 2 factions. North & South. We are helping the north. Southern Dragons attack. Battle. Young new leader of the North, gets mad when southern leader shows up and attacks and kills him in anger. ALL remaining dragons suddenly start falling unconscious. Ground starts rumbling. 5 Dragon heads rise up out of the ground. 1 each, Blue, Black, White, Green & Red. EACH HEAD IS COLOSSAL SIZE!!!!! Yep. Tiamat, Mother of all dragons, who had been imprisoned no one knew where, (of course it's right here where our party is at!) in a past age, has been freed from her imprisonment by this killing. Now we have to fight Tiamat and wee have already used up some our abilities for the day in previous encounters. The DM had given us a Helmet, Spear & Sceptre of Dragon slaying earlier on, because he figured all this was going to be happening. As long as the same person has all 3 items, he is immune to Dragon breath weapon damage, getting the spear into it cancelled it's DR besides doing some damage, and then the sceptre fired a ray that does a ranged touch attack and does a bunch of damage if you also have the spear in the dragon at the same time. The hunter was killed very quickly, by a breath weapon that did something like 130 HP or so. Her Spinosaurus survived a few more rounds doing minor damage. I was almost out of of power/spells, when I failed a save against a prismatic spray & got stone to flesh cast on me, same as the Spinosaurus. Later Tiamat cast some spell that causes players to get stunned, but as part of the effect, the Spinosaurus and I got shattered into smitherings. The Tower shield protector could do no damage, so just stayed in total defense the entire fight and after I died he kept protecting the ranger who was using the 3 dragonslayer items and doing a good bit of damage each round. The Oracle stayed right there with them and she just kept healing them.

TIAMAT DIED!!!!!

The hunter, the Spinosaurus and I were all resurrected. Tiamat's body dissolved & left 5 orbs. with a portion of her essence in each. We all go touch them and absorb them into our bodies. We disappeared from Golarion & appeared in the astral plane, appearing before a setting where every god of Golarion is sitting at a looooonnnggg table. Wee have proven ourselves worhty to become gods and take our seat at the table, becoming a new constellation in the stars, or we can go back to Golarion & do deeds like no man has done "in an age." If we go back we have a choice: go 18th level with 2 ranks of Mythic, or 20th level with 1 rank of Mythic!!!!! I have never gotten a character this high level before! I AM LOVING IT!!!! I went 20th level with the one rank of Mythic. IT IS AWESOME!!!!! :-D

Sorry about the mistaken ID, Mended. As we saw with the Skeleton king, one missed save can take BG out of the battle. And for all we know, these guys could be just the slackers that pulled guard duty, and they still managed to pull the warning rope before we could stop them, so the real threat could be on its way right now!

Battle Grid ***** Treasure Chart ***** Emerald Spire Skills

Nothing about the game. Links to see pictures of my two main Lego creations.:

After lowering the drawbridge of the castle, there was a gate immediately behind it, then enough space past that gat for a carriage/wagon to enter before there was yet another gate. In between the two gates there were arrow slots in the walls and ceiling of that tunnel.

The entire castle was designed with hinges on one side so that I could open it in the middle as you will see in one of the pictures.

Everything had access designed for the Lego figures by either stairs or ladders.

The throne room had a tiled floor which you will also see. You can't see the lever next to the throne, that when activated, made the floor in front of the throne drop open directly through two floors down to the dungeon below. And also the throne could open up to a separate passage that had a ladder directly down to the bottom floor with a secret passage to the outside.

Stormstrider's Lego Castle

There are only 5 pictures of the Pirate ship.

It was actually made for a 3.5 Campaign, Savage Tides that I DM'd for from level 1 - 20. The party eventually went to the underworld, rode the ship on the river Styx (while still alive!) and helped out Charon and he ended up granting for their ship, The Wyvern (I think is what it was called?) to sail on the river Styx!

The dragon head on the prow had a button that when you pressed it, made the mouth slowly open up, and the wings rise. Also when you turned the 'steering' wheel, it actually made the rudder turn from side to side.

That sounds awfully like my tabletop roleplaying group when they get excited.

Glad I amused someone.

In game now I know what the gas does I think. Can't say I like it. Still I guess it will wear off and it could have happened in a more dangerous situation.

Those Lego creations are impressive. How long did they take to build? A long time I would think.

Thanks for the Lego compliment. Regrettably I did not think to keep track of time or quantity of pieces. Both those questions have been asked of me multiple times.

I know the castle was built in periods (build til I get frustrated or bored, take some days off from it, go back to it .... repeat) over several months - read most of a year or so?

The ship was also like that but maybe only ... 2 months at the most I would guess?

By the way, the ship is 3 decks (if I remember correctly, otherwise it was 4) as far as the main section, and each deck could be lifted off, so as to see the deck below.

Like worse than being confused, getting attacked by a party member, and in danger of being ingested by an aberration in addition to the effect of the poison? I don't think I want to know about your "more dangerous" situation...

Weird Internet problems. If you have ANY knowledge on this please try to help me!:
Itis weird because the computer says I am connected to the Wifi internet, but any page I try to load says it timed out, and yet I am able to access the Google drive and make changes to the Battle grid for example? I suspect there is something wrong about some setting or other, but I do not know enough to know what to do. Any suggestions? And if you want (so that I get it faster!) You can type a text box in the Battle grid and I should be able to see that! Thanks for any help!

Well, it could be an Ancient Dragon or Terrasque rather than a Gibbering Mouther. But you do have a point.

Stormstrider- No IT advice from me sorry. If I were fool enough to give advice on IT and someone were fool enough to take it disaster would ensue.
