Personally, the idea of a 11yo Necromancer being silly is part of the reason I liked it.
That said, plot is synonomous with conflict, and dumping a borderline character (or even a full blown evil one) into a group of do-gooders, if handled with maturity, can make for some pretty good conflict.
The Little Game Master |
that and there's no mention of alignment. Just because someone raises the dead, doesn't make them evil. I have a Gravewalker (Witch) who worships Charon, but is true neutral. The kind of guy who understands and respects that all things must die, but doesn't go out of his way to kill. And yeah, the first two definitely add color to our story, and it looks like the only one of the four which hasn't gotten a negative review is the Oracle of Bones. Is it safe to say that's our vote?
EDIT: I just remembered the comment on how being deaf/mute will be annoying, but luckily for us, Tanwen knows sign-language.
The Little Game Master |
Just to be clear it is still a question. I'd just like to let BigBen know what we decided as soon as possible.
Odd'n Lhrar |
@TLGM; sorry, but I wrote Odd'ns post from the perspective that Rory has 'sharpened teeth' much the same as his own. I kinda realized after the fact that he was referring to his ol' foremans. Apologies if this confuses things.. maybe Odd'n just perceives Rory as a rough-and-tumble muscle man who faced a tough life like he has?
Hopefully Odd'ns actions make sense in this light! :)
The Little Game Master |
I'm glad you're having fun!
Since there haven't been objections in 5 days. I'm going to go ahead and PM BigBen to make the oracle.
Mikaiela Surris |
BigBen here! I'm posting with the Oracle's alias now. I still need to pen her background, but lack the time to do so this weekend (fancy events, company coming over to stay a night, and of course, Sunday obligations). She's otherwise playable, and everything she has is squared away in her background; it involves a dead mother, life on the streets and a father who dies, time spent in the care of a Drow Noble, and time spent traveling where necromancy and cooking are learned (she travels, the perfect opportunity to write her in).
Oracle Starting Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8 x 10 = 80gp
1st Hit Die: 8 + 1 = 9
2nd Hit Die: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
3rd Hit Die: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
(9) + (4) + (5) = 18
Mikaiela Surris |
Whoops! BigBen again! Sorry, I forgot I could make the roll with Profession to earn extra gold. Let me do that now.
Profession Starting Gold Bonus: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
So I'll update her stat block to include 100 more gold on top of her current 5gp (50gp for beating DC 15 + 50gp more for exceeding the DC by 5; totaling 105gp, instead of 5gp).
Okay?
Odd'n Lhrar |
I'm indifferent, just antsy to reach 3rd lvl maself fer my dirty lvl dip into monk ;P
edit: @tlgm-- how much HP did we heal while asleep those 6 hours? I suppose none since it wasn't the full 8? Can we grease some kindness outta you and maybe get.. 1? ;)
Odd'n Lhrar |
@TLGM; are we considering 6 hours a full nights rest? Le internet resources indicate 8 hours is required to gain the healing. This perhaps hardly matters now (since its only 2hp), but I'm curious for the long-term of this campaign (for better planning at higher levels) and for my own group (this is my primary reason for asking :P )
Odd'n Lhrar |
In the mean time, anyone care to banter about the good ol' days of computer RPGs? I'm on the fence about another run-through of Baldurs Gate 2.. anyone care to comment on fun classes to solo with? (I'm quite tired of the fighter/mage)
The Little Game Master |
Sorry I've been radio silent...real life and all that. @BigBen/Mikaiela: I said you could go lvl 3 if you wanted, as the tier would remain intact, but the same goes for a lvl 1 or lvl 2 character.
@Odd'n: we're not considering 6 hours a full night's rest, but if you heal your level with 8, we should heal 3/4 lvl with six (round to the nearest whole number ;)). Also, if you're feeling low, I'm sure this camp wouldn't have lasted long without a healer, plus you could always ask Tanwen to spend another channel/spell. Don't worry, I wasn't planning on letting you wander around, bleeding everywhere.
Odd'n Lhrar |
@tlgm; cool, rounding up to 2 hp recovered ;)
Hopefully skullscar has some more flavour fluff to through Odd'ns way :D im enjoying this pointless jabber, its gunna be fun to see how the two orc outcasts get along!
The Little Game Master |
Lovely to have you! I'm RPing you in as the new cook for the Common in Fwey, here we go!
Odd'n Lhrar |
Ah, this should get fun ;P
EDIT: Sorry for misspellings in the gameplay post there. I got few hours sleep last night and was up at 5:30am to get to school -_- Here are the corrections if it isn't obvious in the post..
Odd'n thinks he hears a laugh coming from a side hall in the hallway straight ahead of him, but can't make out Gwyns voice over his own heavy breathing. Unfortunately for Odd'n, he has always been susceptible to the laughter of others and his inebriation hadn't helped things. A silliness creeps up in his chest, and what begins as a few quiet chuckles quickly erupts into a loud maniacal laugh. Spittle flying everywhere as he hoots and hollers to some unknown joke, Odd'n stumbles down the hallway towards the source of the laugh-- stopping every few feet to catch his breath a little lest he double over in laughter.
Garret Powers |
I think I meant for the second one to be knowledge local. But regardless 19 is a pretty good roll
Bronan Krass |
Something doesn't look right to me with the dagger price.
Either A. It's a masterwork, cold iron dagger. While there is debate as to whether the masterwork component gets doubled, that would be at most 604 gp. If not doubled, it's only 304 gp.
or B. a +1 cold iron dagger, which would cost either 4604 or 4304 gp, in which case you are getting a great deal.
Gwyndolin Maulsen |
I think he was also applying the +2000 GP to make it a magic weapon on top of the masterwork price.
That said, I don't like the mischievous glint in Mikaiela's eyes. It doesn't bode well for Gwyn or Odd'n.
:P
Odd'n Lhrar |
Here is hoping the poor dont stampede for the coin and crush us in the process Gwyn ; P
edit: sorry if im rping anyone into a corner with oddns brash actions. If it isnt fun let me know on here or in a pm and ill dial back the drama ; P
The Little Game Master |
*Touches nose, points to Gwyn*
@Odd'n: as you can see on the map, you didn't get very far I did a double-move, assuming you wouldn't have the stamina to go much further, so as long as somebody's quick about it, we could probably avoid any stampede.
Garret Powers |
I'm enjoying odd'n and now that work isn't as busy my posts will be longer and with more role play
The Little Game Master |
Actually had never heard of Midkemia or the Rift Wars. The Upright Man was in Thorne's backstory (probably inspired, and may have been trying to play as Jimmy the Hand) so I worked him in. Landis the Wish is an original character loosely based on a friend of mine. Also, if it isn't yet clear, "The Upright Man" is somewhat of an ironic moniker in this story.
Odd'n Lhrar |
@Garret, hope you feelin' better! Glad to have you back so Odd'n can bother yea some more ;)
@TLGM, Heres hoping you have some kinda bizarre beasty waiting for us down there! Also, can I clarify Odd'ns shiny feather with yea? It dims towards midnight, blinking once, and brightens towards high-noon? Or do I/Odd'n have that backward? ;P
The Little Game Master |
You've got it! The light has a positive relationship with the proximity of the sun.
Garret Powers |
Everything if fine crash wise. Laid my bike down after getting forced off the road and skidding in some gravel. Only damage was my ankle, swells up quite nicely after dropping a 675lb bike on it. I stayed off it for a little more then a week and was able to run my Spartan Beast today, though a bit slower then a normal race for me.
Bronan Krass |
Your bike isn't bright red, is it? (I saw someone take a similar sounding dive just a few days ago while driving)
Odd'n Lhrar |
Bronan is trying to say 'sorry for hitting you' ;P
Kidding (I hope.. hehe..)
Regarding the feather, Odd'n will try to bring it out in the future when we go delving during the day time. I can't imagine the awkward human would be very good at keeping a glass jar safe.. so.. if Odd'n found some kinda cage-mesh that he could dangle from his person (with the feather inside) would you want it to count against an equipment slot to have it 'out and providing light' as they scrounge about in the dark?
The Little Game Master |
Odd'n has discovered by now that it isn't a very fragile feather. Feel free to tie it to your weapon or other hand-held object. Only if an NPC consciously takes it from your person will it be in danger. If you want to wear it like a necklace or a head band (using a slot) it will no longer be in danger of theft, but the portion of area behind you (or what have you) will be darkened by your shadow.
make sense?
Odd'n Lhrar |
I think Odd'n will fashion some kinda fruity head-band, reminiscent of a native head-dress of old ;) Thus, we can let it count against his head slot (or whatever is equivalent)?
Having it stand up off his brow I think we can argue that 50% of illumination is possible behind him, with full 'feather illumination' in front? Odd'n doesn't have an obscenely long skull, so at least 50% of the feather will be protruding above his skull/hair ;D
I don't care much for practicality.. but God help me-- Odd'n is going to be as ridiculous as possible! A bare-fist fighting Elton John if you will..
BigBenClockTower |
Cool, Mikaiela can discriminate now! Just think of all the hypocritical humor she can derive out of also being handicapped! *shot*
In all seriousness, we'll see what happens. I wanted to post the last few days, but this week, all the apps for jobs I sent got calls for interviews. So I'm swamped with all of that. I'll see if I can post by the end of today though.
Odd'n Lhrar |
@BigBen-- TLGM has it such that Odd'n can function like a normal person in combat situations, it is just the social bits that he will be a lil' off on. Gwyn is, so far, the only person in the party he really likes (plus caltrop.. but he isn't a person..). Odd'n would probably listen to her commands if she was a little more forceful.. ;)
As for Odd'n eventually liking you-- each new day Odd'n will re-roll for anyone with a Asperger value below 15, if you exceed 15 on the roll the difference will be added to your score (which I'm tracking on Odd'ns profile). When that score finally exceeds 15, which will take a few days, he will be your friend. Doing nice, selfless acts will give a bonus to that roll (ex. Bronan giving up a potion to heal a horse we found).
Also, if there is any point in the story/adventure for Odd'n to make a normal or 'childish'/innocent/entirely-unaware decision I tend to flip a coin with those. The man isn't necessarily stupid.. he just isn't wise in the ways of the world ;)
BigBenClockTower |
Well, Mikaiela is definitely not selfless yet (unless it concerns allies, and the circumstances post-selfless act only advance her interests positively).
Also, Mikaiela is always forceful. It doesn't necessarily manifest as much as she'd like because it's always signed or written force. If the point isn't gotten across, then she brandishes her scythe and gives her best scary shiny glasses glare. =D
But I'm intrigued to see where she goes with the party. Even Lawful Evil types have friends, and she may just regard the party as hers, even if she prefers helping herself, for she is incredibly legalistic and enjoys staying within established boundaries.
The Little Game Master |
I just thought of something, Odd'n: if you paid a tailor or armorer a bit of gold, you could have your feather affixed to a gauntlet. Best of both worlds. Just a thought.
