I just wanna apologize to you guys. This last couple of weeks have been ridiculous. I was handed nine 20+ hour projects at work that had to be done by Friday (last Friday). Needless to say, it's been an exhausting couple of weeks, and I've gotten nothing really productive done for the games I'm running. I'm not giving up by any means, just letting you know that I'm still here and doing my thing. Regular posts will resume forthwith.

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

No worries DM

Male Goblin Sorcerer (Starsoul) 6

We will never give up on you!

okay, so it's been a bit since we've heard anything from Kurat or greith. We're now at a crossroads: We can either try to recruit more people, or we can push forward with just the three of you. Any new people would probably be joining you after this mission, though, as that is what would make the most sense. I leave the decision up to you guys.

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

Push until we get this mission done.

Mean while recruit more people this way you would have time to take your pick DM

New recruitment thread is up. We'll see what comes of it.

Male Goblin Sorcerer (Starsoul) 6

Yay! people!

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

Hello to all

I will be away until Tuesday so expect very very little posting from me.

Please bot me if needed

Tks

(traveling today and Tuesday, so i might be posting from phone)

Ps i still would try to finish up this combat :)

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

Here is an possible option:
Gadget could head to the rendez vous point get the new characters and meet me at the next point on the map in oder to try and finish the mission?

Male Goblin Sorcerer (Starsoul) 6

I think we should just finish, don't want to get yelled at by the captain

Ya, the captain is not quite finished with his mission yet. besides, I'm still looking at the current crop of submissions.

Apologies for the delay, but my work computer died (multiple BSoDs today due to....not sure what, yet), so I'm gonna have to rewrite the stat blocks for the interrogator, which will probably take me today, so we'll pick up the combat tomorrow.

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

No worries dm..

Male Goblin Sorcerer (Starsoul) 6

Its Urgosh's turn, right?

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

it appears so Gadget :)

ya, everything is up to date now.

Hp 60/60 AC 25 (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +8)

nice :)

For the new folks:

Maybe it was bad luck, maybe it was overwhelming odds, maybe it was punishment from the gods/spirits/whathaveyou. Regardless of the reasoning (and please do come up with a reason), each of you had answered the call to join the army of the faithful, and en route each of you each found yourself captured by a crew of slavers and bound for the city of Aeon to be sold as so much human chattel at market there. Stripped of your posessions, you were shoved into a massive armored wagon. The more perceptive of you noticed that your belongings were put into a chest that was obviously magic, as it was much larger on the inside than the outside. for 3 weeks straight you travelled with the slavers, who eventually join up with several other wagons headed in the same direction. Listening to the slavers, you learn that you are less then a days travel outside the city when the sun goes down and they decide to circle the wagons and head into the city tomorrow. That is when you put your plan into motion: Adra spoke to the spirit of the metal in your manacles, convincing them to open. Rebneck managed to reach the pin through the door that opened the wagon, and then Aargus and Shokal rampaged through the camp of drunken and unprepared slavers, ending their existence and sending them to meet with whatever foul gods they preyed to.

You are deciding what to do when you see the strangest thing you have ever seen: a company of minotaurs and a company of dwarves riding what for all appearances seems to be a flying kraken. Deciding to follow the beast, you see that it is making it's way towards the city of Aeon. You are on the outskirts of the city when the entire procession (the kraken and the people riding it) simply vanish into thin air. As you are observing this situation and the city before it, you notice a company of elves and drow scouts break from the treeline and begin sneaking towards the city. Falling in with them, they tell you that you have witnessed the test flight of the greatest weapon The Convocation has ever created: a flying kraken. They speak with a pride that is infectious. Soon they will unleash the fleet of them. The soldiers escort you to their leader, a Powerfully built dwarf wearing Dwarfsteel fullplate and a massive Greataxe strapped to his back, who listens to your story and then praises you for your teamwork and ingenuity in escaping.
He is about to formally induct you into the army of the faithful when a globe shaped object in his tent begins glowing and you see the face of a goblin wearing the rank pin of a captain in the army of the faithful (the dwarf, you learn, is named Sargeant Stonecleaver). Saluting the image, Sargent Stonecleaver gives his report on the successful test flight and then finishes up by reporting on the circumstances of your arrival.
The Captain ponders for a minute and then informs you that you'll be joining his personal unit of irregulars, and that you should wait for him to bring the survivors to the forward camp you currently find yourselves in. You are each sworn in and given rank pins with the rank of Corporal.

That should catch you up with the group and you'll get to officially meet the survivors of the original group when they return. For now, feel free to read the gameplay thread and please do read the campaign info tab to get caught up on what has happened so far. Each of you has recovered your starting gear and animal companions (where necessary) and discovered that the only thing of value that the slavers had was that chest, which functions as an alternate form version of a portable hole (basically, it has the same carrying capacity, it's just bound to the inside of a large trunk (basically a steamer trunk).

I have been looking forward to this for a while now...

and, seeing how we are being grafted onto the campaign, I modified Adra's back story some (and did some editing. Isn't it horrible how something you felt was acceptable can feel tacky a few days later?). To completely avoid a wall of text I pulled only the more pertinent bits (her reason for trying to join, how she got captured, and what she did from there.) Her full back ground is in her profile. (Though you don't have to read it, it's probably worse than I think...)

Reason for joining/captivity:

Adra and Kvinn, her familiar, were on their annual visit Adra’s husband’s grave, when slavers assaulted their caravan. The sting operation out right killed many of the adults and took most of the children as slaves. When Adra came back from her retreat, she came back to ash, blood, and dust where once had been wood, smiles, and cheer. She gathered from the survivors her children were likely dead and her grandchildren slaves. With this she found a new focus, she would find and rescue her family by joining the Army of the Faithful. Adra lead the remnants of her village back to Caravan. She then tried to enlist in the war effort. However, she was flatly denied a posting due to her age. In a huff, she decided would find her children on her own. This worked about as well as expected; shortly before crossing into Aeonian territory she crossed the path of a slaving group, was discovered, and taken slave.

Captivity:

The slavers locked Adra in a cage, commandeered her wagon, and locked away most of her things. She immediately started cajoling the sprits in her manacles, but, like most metals, they were stubborn and took a very long view of things. Kvinn, her familiar, escaped being captured, and would regularly visit at night and help the woman prepare some spells that allowed her and her fellow captives to at least eat well. Finally, after weeks of brow-beating, Adra was able to convince the spirits of the manacles to open. From there it was Rebnesk’s, Aargus’s and Shokal’s party.

I have/had no problem with your background Adra. I thought it was fairly well written.

Male Ogre Slayer 4

Reason for captivity:
Part bad luck and part overwhelming odds is how Shokal found himself in chains.

He thought he would be capable of dealing with the slavers he had been tracking, like he had done with so many before. Little did he know that they had already noticed Shokal some time before and set up a trap for him. Shokal fought fiercely, but being trapped and fighting against overwhelming odds was too much and in the end he was captured and robbed of his freedom.

During Captivity:
Shokal kept quiet, biding his time and regaining his strength. His spirit strengthened by the knowledge that there were others who still had some fight left in them. Once the plan was set into motion, he did not hold back. His eyes blazing with a hatred only reserved for this kind of lowly creatures. He made certain none of them survived, ending their lives with whatever crude implement he could find.

Got my copy of the Advanced Class Guide yesterday and it looks like a few things have changed, mostly the spell list, access to another hex and a balancing of the spirit abilities. I am updating Adra now.
Though I was wondering if I could trade out the Stone-Faced Feat with Unfettered Familiar (new feat that allows a spell-caster to designate their familiar as toucher for a spell from 30 feet away)...

I can definitely relate. I can't wait til Thursday when I can buy a pdf from the store. I'm fine with you swapping that feat if you want, as you haven't played your character yet. I would caution, however, that a familiar on it's own running around the battlefield becomes a valid target.

@Adra, any big changes to the base Slayer? Don't have ACG yet and then I at least know whether I need to change something about the character. He's only lvl 3, so normally not much should have changed I think.

Of the major changes at 3rd level for the slayer:
Favored target is now called Studied target and provides the same bonuses and progression; however, a slayer can activate this ability as an immediate action if he hits with a sneak attack to add the bonuses to that attack... (which sounds useful.)

Some of the talents have changed (deadly aim now has a fourth level requirement, foil scrutiny is not spell specific, terrain mastery uses the rogue version) but most of these seem to have little effect on our game. (Combat trick is still a viable option)

wow. I can't believe that I missed that. Everyone should go ahead and level to 6th (for some reason I was thinking you guys started at 3rd).

Does this mean that the new characters would be at WBL of lvl 6 characters?

If so this would be my changes to equipment :

equipment updates:

WBL for lvl 6 = 16000 GP (5500 GP more than lvl 5)

armor becomes Mithral for 4000 GP
Cloak of Resistance +1 for 1000 GP
extra potion of cure Moderate Wounds 300 GP
228 GP left in total (200 GP from this + 28 GP from original amount)

From the level up I would be getting the following :
+1 BAB, +1 Fort, +1 Ref, +9 HP
Fast Stealth, Foil Scrutiny or ??? as Slayer Talent (Didn't really have a good idea what to take here. Any ideas?)
6 skill points : Stealth, Disguise, Bluff, Acrobatics x2, Intimidate

yes, the new people should have wbl for a 6th level character.

Finally finished my character. At least I think. After so long I kinda forgot what I bought...and skills...and other stuff. But I think I got it now. I have two animal companions now. Bloodwing and Littlewing. Cool little thing about Boon companion. It boosts effective druid level of animal companion by 4 but ranger only reduces it by 3. That means I can use the extra level for another animal companion vie beastmaster while keeping the main companion at full. And when I hit 12 I can boost Littlewing to level 4. And in one level my companion will be far stronger than me. So I have relegated myself to support using Tangling Attack from skirmisher.

Edit I also have a Hat of Disguise now. Only problem is I don't know common. Should make things interesting.

Don't forget that boon companion states that it can't go over your actual level, so normally all boon companion does for a single class ranger is get your companion up to your character level. And I tried looking into the beastmaster thing but seeing as I am on iPad the search was a bit limited. From what I found, there is no consensus on applying boon companion in such a way that your total combined Druid level would rise above your actual level. But it seems that strong bond would not stack with boon companion.

In the end it is up to the dm of course :-)

let me take a look at it Rebnesk, and i'll let you know before we start the next mission, which will be on Monday (since I have about 75% of the text already written on my work computer.)

boon companion states that it only applies to one animal companion unfortunately, so you would have 6 total levels to spend on your animal companion(s).

M Halfling Druid 6 | AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 42/42 | CMB +5 | CMD 19 | Fort +6, Ref +10, Will +5 (+7 psionics)| Init +4 | Senses Low-Light vision 60ft | Perception +16

I haven't seen anywhere where it states that combined level of animal companions or familiars has to be your level or lower. In fact Boon Companion states that

"Special: You may select this feat more than once. The effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different animal companion or familiar."

which leads one to believe that combined level can, in fact, be higher than your character level but neither alone can be above yours.

That being said I have 7 (6-3 (ranger) +4 (Boon)) levels but I can only spend a maximum of 6 on one companion. So I get the Roc at level 4 who is at level 1. At level 5 I gain another animal companion (Littlewing) at level 1 and take the feat boon and apply it to the Roc to make it level 5. Then at 6 I increase only the Roc to 6 and leave the other one at 1. The other one is mainly going to be for scouting and at level 12 I can bump him to level 4 because I no longer take the -3 hit to effective druid level. I want to keep the Roc at full power because it is going to be the main damage dealer for me. I am going to be nothing but support.

Going to keep from clogging up the gameplay thread with actions past their time, but still wanted to share this...

Kvinn, being shooed off the nice goblin's head, takes to a near by tree in a huff that might have been more effective were she visible (and larger...) She then spends the rest of the time she's invisible playing tricks with people around the camp before heading back to Adra's wagon. She spends the next few days hunting, preening and pranking where possible. She also tries to play with both Bloodwing and Littlewing.

When Meera comes to get the group, the owl lands on her shoulders and takes an instant liking to the orc. Kvinn even tries to stay on her shoulders during the trip to Greel's tent. But, once there, she notes the seriousness of Adra and moves back to her master's shoulder, intent on the proceedings, map, and tent.

Boon Companion wrote:

The abilities of your animal companion or familiar are calculated as though your class were 4 levels higher, to a maximum effective druid level equal to your character level. If you have more than one animal companion or familiar, choose one to receive this benefit. If you lose or dismiss an animal companion or familiar that has received this benefit, you may apply this feat to the replacement creature.
Beastmaster archetype wrote:

The beast master may have more than one animal companion, but he must divide up his effective druid level between his companions to determine the abilities of each companion.

Spoiler:
Book reader 2/Japanophile 1/Cat Animal lover 1/Undecided 3

So effectively Rebnesk has a second level roc and a first level roc and adds the feat to the second level roc to make it (fifth/sixth) level? Or is this a question about the levels of Bloodwing?

As I read the above things, you have 1 pool of levels of druid that you divide among more than one animal companion. The boon companion feat won't increase the bonus higher than your character level.

btw, since I need to create some for my other PBP game, I'm working on a set of items for the new people.
