- Not acting yet -
Leovenbit his lips and answers Damien's question
I'm afraid I know. The shard is very bad news, if we don't stop the cultist we could have an army of undeads rampaging the region in the near future
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Round 4
Finally freed Vhillish remains in the stairwell and loads his arbalest; (Move Action), before acknowledging his former commander with a coughing acknowledgement;
"(Cough) Back in the fight sah! Caught betwixt rotters and orks! Just like when we stood alongside the 77th Lancers in Black Gully Sound whot-whot!"
The veteran looks back up the stairs with a steely gaze;
"Permission to support Mistress Faen sah! Sounds like she's engaging the enemy! Damn smoke makes my bolts moot down here sah!"
Leoven. |
Round 4
I was planning to use channel energy but since I can't see Villish and Kev I guess I'll just delay for now, or until next turn to see what happen
We have to be careful of not letting any corpse on the unholy water or they will raise as undeads
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
Janna stays where she can recieve the least damage, which for now is right where she is.
We need to lure them to us. to chase them will only make us fight on their terms
Samduc Dawnbringer |
"Leo, make your holy power."
Burst = It can't affect creatures with total cover from its point of origin (in other words, its effects don't extend around corners). Concealment and smoke don't effect it.
DM Grimmy |
Round 4 - Jerrid
Jerrid nods in agreement with Janna's canny apraisal.
He creeps to the foot of the stair, plastering himself against the wall of the stairwell.
Ready action: Attack the first enemy to step down off the stairs.

Damien "Wet" Winters |
Round 4
The Damiens shake their head in Vhillish's direction, "Limited room to engage. Move to covering fire position Deputy."
Moving off to the side, the troup of Damien's press their backs against a pillar and ready to attack, "Kev, pull back! Use the smoke."
Readied attack on first orc down the stairs, Arcane Strike up.
DM Grimmy |
Jerrid looks at Leo. "You think this floor is dry enough for now?" He taps his toes in some of the puddles pooling in cracks in the rocks. "When we can get back to the library I have to do some reading. The Crypt Guardian spoke to me."
Round 5
Earthquake?: 1d100 ⇒ 82 no
The evil priest curses at the young acolyte and the orcs.
"You tuskers. If they won't come up follow them down. You, novice. Open those double doors and bring in the dead from the courtyard."
The orc before Kevezyat takes a swing at her through the doorway.
Falchion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11
sorry does Kev have the barkskin?
The other orcs pile into the hall to charge down the stairs as soon as they have a chance.
The acolyte goes to the double doors, and the clack of bones and moans of zombies fill the air.
about 9 skeletons and 7 zombies out there still.
Round 5 GO
You can carry over your readied actions from Round 4 or change them.

Delayed action

Channel energy: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
I think my current location covers everyone, unless the starway is too steep
Round 5
Leoven draws the small pearl of power and say the word to remember the command spell.
What now?
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Round 5
"Now you break those tuskers when they come down! Then follow me up. I'll try to slow down the reinforcements."
Drawing on his severely taxed magical reserves, Damien makes an intricate sign in the air. Completing the spell, all six copies of the veteran seem to turn sideways without actually moving and vanish from view. Cast Vanish
Wrapped in fleeting invisibility, Damien hustles of the steps and into the smoke. As Kevezyat's armored back appears in front of him, Damien flattens himself against the stair wall, content to let her and the orcs pass him by.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 20 = 45
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Round 5
Vhillish nods with a twitch of his 'tache at the orders barked by a troop of Damiens;
"Falling back sah!"
He moves to near the foot of the stairs (Move Action) and takes up a firing position.
The doughty deputy shouting his preparedness to his former commander;
"Ready to provide covering fire sah! Stick them bloody tuskers good an' proper!"
(Ready an attack - Standard Action should any orcs/foes come barrelling down the stairs...)
Readied Ranged: Arbalest (MW Hvy Crossbow+Point Blank Shot): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16

Once she has some targets waves of electrical energy erupt from Janna's fingers like some Sith lord fighting his arc rival.
concentration check just in case: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Kevezyat Faen |
Thanks for the reminder on the barkskin!
Round 5
The orc's blow rocks Kevezyat back on her heels, but does not lasting damage. Over the sound of booted orc feet stomping her way, Kevezyat hears the entreaties of her friends to retreat back to a sounder strategic location.
Fuming that the priest would so surely follow stereotype, and hide behind his lackeys, Kevezyat nonetheless can't help but acknowledge her friend's advice.
With a swipe of her blade, she disengages from the orc in the doorway, giving way as she descends back into the basement...there she nods to her friends, and awaits the orc's arrival at the bottom of the stairs...
Withdraw...
Current effects : Barkskin +2 AC, not sure if the Smite Evil on the Priest is still in effect...
DM Grimmy |
Bad Guys
The orcs tramp down after Kev. Close to the bottom of the stairs, as they step out of the smoke, they are met with missile attacks from Vhillish and Sam. The halflings knife goes wide, clattering on the stairs, but the gnomes quarrel lodges in an orcish throat.
Jerrid winks at Kev and makes a gesture with his head, indicating to let the enemy out of the stairwell to face the fate he and Janna have in store for them.
The lead orc, enraged by Vhillish's shot, raises it's falchion against the Valkyrie of Freya once more!
Falchion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Confirm?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Critical Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9
Jerrid sees Kev wounded and bites his lip, knowing it is better for him to stay in ambush then to break his cover now.
Recorded 7 damage from Vhillish against orc.
Jerrid will stay readies to do 19 damage to the first one past him that survives Janna's blast.

Leaoven say a pray and for a second holy glow illuminates his comrades
Bless on everyone in the room, not sure about damien since bless is a burst effect with big radius but he is invisible
Damien "Wet" Winters |

Is Jerrid not able to attack the lead orc from where he is? The stairs shouldn't be that high right? It would be super thematic for him to reach over the edge and slice the orc's Achilles tendon, no?
Round 6
Damien smiles unseen as the orcs barrel past him. It was easy to feel clever against blunt instruments like these tuskers. Hopefully it would prove as easy to avoid being turned into a rotter by their masters.
Heart pounding in his ears, Damien surges up the stairs and down the now empty hall. Coming out in the main room, he spots the cultist unassumingly opening the door to the courtyard.
Taking a deep breath, the veteran brings his hammer to bear. Six of him spring into existence as his long hammer thunders against the cultist's head.
Turning as the blow lands, six pairs of steely eyes regard the head cultist, "Try it. I'll teach your sorry ass all about Death."
Move Action : Move into D1
Swift Action : Arcane Strike
Standard Action : Attack Red Cultist
Lucern Hammer vs Flat-Footed: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 = 25

The acolyte cultist goes down unconscious.
Con Check: 1d20 ⇒ 12 stable
Is Jerrid not able to attack the lead orc from where he is? The stairs shouldn't be that high right? It would be super thematic for him to reach over the edge and slice the orc's Achilles tendon, no?
Was picturing sort of a walled off stairwell.
Unfortunately the higher ranking priest was ready for Damien.
readied action, bestow curse DC 16
Damien: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 safe
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Oh, I'd been picturing the stairs as an open wedge sticking out into the room. Visuals are hard on a top down map sometimes :P
Bestow Curse, Yikes!
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
Damien plants the butt of his hammer in the flagstones, using it as an anchor as he attempts to throw off the cultist's curse. Winning out, a cruel smile spreads across all six of his faces, "You'd better have a stronger curse than that."
DM Grimmy |
And Kev saved against Blindness/Deafness. Permanent stuff.
The cultist literally howls with rage, clutching his holy symbol til his knuckles turn white.
"You will bend! You will break! You will kiss the cloven feet of the Prince of Undeath! You impudent wretch!"
Now his morningstar is whirling above his head.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Since the stairs are closed in, the only way for everyone to get what they want is if Kev 5ft steps north after her attack, Janna looses her spell on the first two from where she is and then there's still room for Jerrid to attack when the orcs move forward. Just either stay put Vhillish or let Sam take your place. Preferably with a readied action. Good luck guys!
Damien's many smiles darken, "Keep telling yourself that..."
Leoven. |
Villish would have to move so Kev can take his place then Sam and Jerrid can flank from above and below and that still only allows from one Orc to enter the place at a time
Kevezyat Faen |
Yeah, my vision of the stairs was the same as Damien, as wedge.. Also wanted to make sure that Leo's channel got to Kevezyat.
Round 6
Kevezyat notices Jerrid's subtle indication to move to side and nods, then brings her sword about and cuts down on the impertient orc, "You are strong, but follow a false god....may death bring you to his tender bosom!"
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 = 11
...but, it seems there are still traces of Sam's smoke in her eyes, her blow sliding harmlessly off of the orc's armor.
Unperturbed by her failure to harm the orc, Kevezyat steps aside to allow her friends to greet him appropriately. As she does so she whispers a prayer to Freya , a warm glow surrounding her hand where she presses it against the wound inflicted by the orc.
Swift Action, Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
5' step to the side
Current Status : Barkskin +2 AC, Smite Evil on Priest
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Round 6
Vhillish shifts sideways allowing for others to enter the fray (5ft Step), reloading as he goes... (Move Action - does not provoke AoO due to Vigilant Loading Deed)
From his new vantage, the veteran aims, primes (Swift Action - Arcane Strike) and fires at the front line orc!
"Here's steel in your eye old boy! Whot!"
Ranged: Arbalest (MW Heavy Crossbow+Point Blank Shot): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 1 = 21
Damage: Small Heavy Crossbow (+Point Blank Shot+Arcane Strike): 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 = 10

Round 6 Sam and Knotty
Knotty follows Sam's instructions and moves up to stand in the front lines, his branches waving menacingly, but Knotty is only trying to avoid getting hit like Sam instructed.
Knotty total defense AC 25 -- Sam 20' move and readied attack
Sam moves around so he can strike from the protection of the stairwell opposite Janna.
ready magical dagger attack slashing: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 = 71d3 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 72d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
if it wasn't a 1, add +2 if Janna threatens for flanking and precision damage if readied attack is triggered
DM Grimmy |
Yeah, my vision of the stairs was the same as Damien, as wedge.. Also wanted to make sure that Leo's channel got to Kevezyat.
Sorry, I will work on my theater of the mind skills guys! I could have described it better but let's keep things as they are now. Kev, Leo's channel did reach you, yes.

Orcs in the basement
The first orc, sword coated in Kevezyat's blood, surges forward, and Vhillish sinks a quarrel into it's eye. It falls, and does not stir.
Dead on the nose even with orc ferocity.
The next two follow it, on time to be wreathed in crackling electricity courtesy of the storm maiden.
Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Jerrid bursts out, sickle flashing, and the middle one falls.
The last one fights on, charred by lightning, only rage keeping it alive.
Staggered, orc ferocity
Seems Janna would hit Kev too , no? Kev needs reflex save vs Janna's spell
DM Grimmy |
Evil Priest in the Keep
The priest loses his cool and runs at Damien head on with the morningstar, coming out of the hall and taking a swing. Outside the double doors Damien can hear the undead in the courtyard slowly responding to the call made by the acolyte before he fell.
Morningstar+Bull's Strength: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
Real (1) or Image (2-6)?: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Provokes an AoO on his way but I think he has cover against Damien at that point.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Nope, no cover :) At the mouth of the hallway, I can draw an unobstructed line from Damien's top left corner to every corner of the cultist's square.
Ready to meet the cultist's charge, Damien's hammer lashes out.
Lucern Hammer AoO: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d12 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
So the doors to the courtyard are open? What action would it be to shut them? Is there a bar?
DM Grimmy |
Unobstructed line, gotcha :)
The hammer clashes with the shield and Damien sees a flash of force. He feels a magical ward aiding the enemies defenses.
The doors are ajar, unbarred by the acolyte before Damien sprung his attack.
Yup, a simple sturdy bar on the inside. Standard action if adjacent.
Downstairs, the orc snarls at Leo as it's stung by his crossbow bolt.
AC 13, Leo hit.

Round 7
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26 And NOW I get the good rolls :P
Damien grimaces as his initial blow is diverted, and curses to himself as the cultist's morningstar smashes cleanly through the head of one of his doubles, dispersing it thoroughly. These first moments were not going as he'd hoped...
Glimpsing a shambling zombie approaching the doors, Damien knows he needs to get the situation under control before it goes from bad to worse.
Pivoting away from the raging maniac, Damien kicks the door closed with his heel. Momentarily diverting attention away from his attacker, Damien slams the bar down, trapping the small horde of undead outside. Regaining a fighting stance, the five remaining Damien's crack their necks, "Lets keep this a private party, you and I."
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
Ok what did Janna do? I can't see anywhere she cast her spell. Looks like Janna really hasn't done anything yet
EDIT nevermind I see it now
I am sorry Kev, you were not there when all this started.

Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Round 7 Conditions/Buffs: -
Quietly satisfied as he drops the orc, Vhillish stands his ground as magic and divine steel smote down their brutal foes.
When Kevezyat rushes up the stairs to reinforce Damien, the doughty deputy is also spurred into action.
With fluid movements he reloads his arbalest (Move Action), then moves up the stairs in the wake of the dark elf warrior. (Move Action - up the stairs)
"Talley ho! To war we go!"
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
Looking to Sam and Leo, come on, they will need us up there. no point in just milling about down here. she says urging them on to follow, as Janna heads up the stairs behind the gnomish sharpshooter.
