I think I'm pretty pragmatic with this...food and medicine will be needed, and unless we open a shop ourselves or give it away(loosing 2k gold), there will be a middle-man.
This middle-man WILL sell at the maximum price they can get away with.
That means if we sell it for 2k Gold making no profit, the middle-man may sell it all for a total of 16k Gold, simply because they can get away with it.
If we sell it for 8k Gold, he'd still sell it for 16k, because that's how much he can get away with. *shrug*
Now if this was some remote fishing village hit by disaster and no ability to organize help/relief, that'd be one thing, but this is a large city, with several temples, plenty of merchants, (magic) scholars etc...
If there were real shortages of either product we've loaded, they could quickly organize for supply, or alternatives.
Janus figures the world is going to end unless we put a stop to it. Whatever gain can be made, then, goes to strenghtening us and increasing our chance to succeed.
(But can well understand your point...which is also why I bring it up in discussion, and not gameplay ;) )
(plus I figure at 2k Gold as price, we're not loaded with grain and basic hireling medicine. More like exotic foods and Viagra for the upper parts of society who have the cash to spend on pricier imported goods(of which there is a shortage)) Plus, technically, convincing myself that it's okay to price gorge since money is in short supply anyway)

Yeah, I totally get that. That's part of why she's suggesting using Abadar for it. There's a special vault for Abadar worshipers who price gouge during a crisis (nothing wrong with charging more than everyone else, but I can't imagine the god of civilization would look fondly upon taking advantage of the people during a crisis.)
I definitely understand your position, as everyone is well behind wealth by level (some ridiculously so), but... Part of being the good guy is making the sacrifice.
Though I totally get your 'greater good'. We need the money to succeed at everything not dying. So... Ugh.

Did you fall off the boat back at the dock Janus? You look a little hurt :P

Ooh, with that roll I think I'd contract anything. Here's to my first use of an MP point:
Cure Disease at CL +2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
DireMerc |
Ok your good.
The disease you contracted was filth fever.
It is the most commonly contracted but a few have another strange disease you cannot recognize (remnants of the blood veil a plague that wipe out nearly 1/5 of the population of this city before a cure was finally discovered and spread to the populace it was never seen outside of korvosa as it was create here by a cult of Urgathoa)

As a heads-up: Today is my last day at mthe first job I ever had. I've worked here for just shy of nine years... But I've decided I need to move on to a job that pays better... As a result, I'm going to be picking up a lot more hours at work, changing my schedule in the process, and ultimately having a lot less time for those things and people that I love. That being said... I'll become less of a post hog in the majority of my games. Things might change in the future, but at the moment, I'm hoping to continue playing in my games.

TBH, the fact he doesn't want to lead us to a location actually makes him more trustworthy, its less likely that he is baiting us into a trap or ambush. Regardless, I think the point is its not entirely clear cut, each of us are playing different characters and reading into the situation different ways. It just so happens that my character doesn't quite believe that there is cause for alarm yet.
Er...trustworthy or not, I didn't refer to traps, ambushes, or cause for alarm.
I meant that there's a cleric hidden in these slums who helped the poor and recently vanished. I did not expect him to try and lead us into a trap, I expected him to lead us back to the cleric. But as you say, different characters have different views/outlooks- I just figured it's worth mentioning if someone can, IC. Me and Thallion are pretty busy, I believe, so even if I suspect something is off and it's a clue to the clerics whereabouts, I couldn't act on it *shrug*. We'll find other leads, I believe.

It's sort of been a long time coming... but with my new workload, I've found that I have nearly no time for Paizo at all. As you've probably noticed, my posts have fallen both in count and quality... and I've come to realize I cannot keep up with the majority of my games - whether because they move too quickly, or because I completely lack the inspiration.
Ultimately, I've decided to drop out of nearly all of my campaigns for now. Sorry for any trouble this causes. I can stick around and do an inadequate job of trying to see my way out, or you can feel free to bot my character.
DireMerc |
Sorry to see you go but I understand.
So tomorrow it will have been three years since I started running games on Paizo.
I want to take a moment to thank all you for being a part of my game and for sticking around even when my busy schedule prevents me from posting as often as I would like.
Since I started on Paizo I have run 13 games. One made it to a successful conclusion, one ended in a TPK, 4 disbanded and 7 are still ongoing.
Again thank you for sticking around and while I may need to take some time off here and there I will always be back to keep it moving along so long as people are willing to play. I enjoy creating these stories with you and seeing how players react to the challenges I give them gives me great joy.
Thalion Hopson |
Ooh, I cringe at that bad typing of a post. Alas, it was a good hit, and I didn't want to mess it up with any edits :P.
I will miss you Flare!

Apparently, Thalion still needs to work some kinks out on his new bow...

I will check in and do some posting on monday or tuesday night.
This was a rough weekend for me. I have a dnd session every weekend with my real life group and this friday two members were absent and they were brothers. The next day we found out that one of them the younger brother had killed himself. He had just turned 21 last month.
None of us ever saw it coming at all. He was the goofy member of the group that loved roleplaying a stupid half-dragon barbarian with 36 strenght and 5 intelligence.
He will be missed. Funeral is tomorrow wake is tonight.

Generic post to all games: I've been ill the last couple of days. Fever and Headache, and no real interest in any activity that includes, as the name implies, being active, as opposed to passively enduring.
I do feel a bit better today, but not good enough to return to work. As such, I expect that over the next 16 or so hours I will get to post/update in most(maybe not all - dunno how I'll feel later) of my games. This is as much an Aviso as a notification, though, as depending on how I will feel in the next few days(and after returning to work), post rate may be...slow. Where applicable, feel free to bot - (just to be clear: "botting me" is not applicable when I'm GM.)
Thalion Hopson |
Hope you feel better Janus, and I am saddened by the bad news, DireMerc. Hang in there, and as Riven said, we'll be here when you get back.

@pokemon go: Gave it a try. Doesn't get me moving much. I have an Arena and 2 pokestops reachable from my place of residence, sitting at my desk. One of the stops is usually also buffed.
And if I go for a short walk with my baby, there's about 12 more pokestops even on a short round and a s*%*ton of the little bastards(pokemon, not other babys) around.
Which is kind of sarcastic because I'm not all that much into the game, just opting to help out a nephew and a niece, who both have only one pokestop near their place of residence and no easily reachable arena.
Thalion Hopson |
Nice call Janus on the Pokemon Go. I just downloaded the game yesterday morning, and took kids to the local park to enjoy the game. They loved it (I might run out of poke balls though, if they let me throw too many of them - for some reason I'm not quite throwing them straight).
There is a huge number of stops and 3 gyms just north of me thanks to a school and park. Alas, it's too far from where I sit for me to take advantage of them. I shudder to think what it will be like for the school come fall.
My wife is watching us most carefully, to make sure it doesn't become too much of a thing in our house.

Posting to all my games as this MAY be very relevant in the future: My corporate network is applying selective restrictions to certain sites, regardless of the connection used.
For these past days, my connection to paizo was refused, today it is working again. While I often do my posts from home, what this means is that at times where I'm travelling to HQ or another department, which happens regulary, I'll be dependent on the system allowing me access.
Those last 3 days, I've been locked out of Paizo by my cache administration.
I will look into ways to "fix" this, but for now, whenever I am travelling, I may or may not be able to log in -_-
(and my phone is company-issued using the same restrictions...so no luck there).
Also, congrats on the house!
DireMerc |
My posting is going to be sporadic for a while as I will be travelling for the next two weeks (until September 7th) I am going to review and post in each of my games tonight before I go to bed.
I will do my best to continue posting just wanted to offer some warning.
I've been having a very hard time keeping up for a while now. I do apologise for that I do hope that things will calm down soon so I can get back into a routine of some kind right now everything is in a state of flux and I can barely remember to check in on Pathfinder.
I considered putting my games on pause for a while or closing some them down.
What are your thought on the matter?
I'd prefer not too but I can understand if your getting frustrated with my lack of posting. Alternatively If someone could send me a message or post something in ooc when I'm needed I would make an extra effort to check in on that game. When I do log in I usually focus on the tread that has the most recent posts.

I'm pretty chill either way. I know burnout can be a problem and all, and usually, I just try to post once I think everyone else has. XD
Janus Alistair Eden |
Same here.
I got a few fast games, got a few slow ones.
No strong feelings. What I'm "allergic" to is people or GM's dropping without notice and disappearing for extended time periods. While there's a plethora of valid reasons for doing so, it's all too common on these boards.
As long as I know what to expect, I won't get worked up over it.
DireMerc |
