The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Yeah, umm, it's just a tad bit excessive. It fits this time cause well...if there was ever a time for him to be excessive this is it, but he probably shouldn't be doing more than 200 points of damage in a round even at this level. If you can crunch the numbers to tone it down to that it'll be fine.
Ok look at greater deadly focus it is changed so Asch won't be slaughtering things during it 'hopefully'.

Not sure what changed. But as long as you can't do more than 200 points of damage in a round is fine. I've seen a high level twinked out two weapon fighting barbarian character do that much within the rules in live play so I know that's totally achievable and it's what I plan for, but more than that and it's hard to find opponents that will last more than a round without destroying the rest of the group.

"So....are we supposed to clean out the castle, or just go home now?"

She loads a cure shell into her Caster and shoots herself in the head, allowing the rest of her wounds to heal more rapidly.

"Anybody else hurt?"

Greater deadly focus gives him 8d6 damage against the target. So it shouldn't be Any worse than what a rogue can do now.

I still don't know what it was doing before that was different. But yes, barring a mathematical improbability it looks like that should keep it effective but not insane. :)

"What? Oh! See you later!" Michael says, already thinking about what kind of book Kitty would bring him. He pushed that thought to the back of his mind though as he remembered what today was. He couldn't be he forgot it, but even that thought he pushed aside. Today was also the start of a new project in his(Advanced) Alchemy class. It would definitely prove useful.

Also, email sent. Do you ever get tired of checking your inbox?

Response sent, and apparently no, it's only troublesome because I have to check two of them. :)

It was double his shadow assassin level on attacks and damage against target so it was +32

Two? I've got three, but I've forgot the passwords for the other two so it doesn't really bother me. Reply sent.

Well, we'll have to see how it plays out. But we'll try this for now and see if it doesn't solve the problem.

Since she ended up having a free period, Kitty went back to her room. Thankfully it hadn't been packed up again. They usually only did that a couple of times a week anyways. She looked through her very small collection of books and picked one, opening it to the front page and writing on it.

"For Michael, this book has always been my favorite so I wanted to share it with my first friend. Kitty Tanaka."

There, that should be just perfect for conveying her feelings without being too much. And then he would have something to remind him of her so he wouldn't be able to forget her as easily. She hummed happily to herself as she worked on her homework and waited for it to be dinnertime.

"Okay class, today we start on Simple Genetic Modification through Alchemical Transmutation. First used by insane wizards to create creatures like perytons and owlbears..." Mr. Yrrum starts the class with the history of today's subject, intent on drilling it into them before the period was over. Michael listened intently, wanting to know everything so he could use it properly. If insane wizards could use it so easily, why couldn't he? He already had plans for his first experimental creation.

Probably won't be on until tomorrow.

Solivala takes a moment.

"My data states that no matter the damage taken a vampire that is not destroyed by certain means will simply return to their coffin to restore themselves. Only my first spell would have truely destroyed him. As he servived it then he should have reverted to a gaseous form after suffering that last attack."

The events did not match the data. Vampires never died from wounds. Certain spells, sunlight, immersion in running water, staked thru the heart then removal of the head were the only ways.

"Could he have some how tricked us then?"

If he is really destroyed and I somehow missed it let me know and I will edit the post. ;)

Are you kidding me? I'm loving his 'does not compute' reaction. It's so typical of him. :)

"Er, I don't know, but I thought that if you could keep them from transforming to gaseous state you could destroy them...maybe Krays knows that better though? Since he's kinda an expert on death... I mean, I may have misunderstood or something," she said doubtfully.

Male Kobold (Adult Black dragon) Gestalt Sorceror/Oracle Necromancer; Champion of Death

"No, he's right. Well one of Asch's strikes removed the head, and he skewered the heart..."
He'll root around in the "mess" looking for the heart and stake it once its found.
"Now we just need to burn these seperately, and bury the ashes far apart or immerse them in running water...and buh bye Duke. As far as any other vampires here, they should be ended as well. They probably know why were here and what we brought. We leave any of them active, and this will jsut start all over again once one of them gains enough power. That's my opinion anyway."

Male (?) Unknown, (Host Body) Drow Metal Elementalist 17

Solivala's orbs shake.

"The stake must be made of wood and the vampire must be helpless. The head removal would be after being helpless and staked thru the heart. Could this be a variant vampire?"

He thought if he should take a sample for himself.

Imagefemale weredragon (amethyst) gestalt Soulknife17/oracle10/divine gunslinger7

"No, I think it's not a variant, but your information may be a little off...I thought that all the staking did was render them inert for a time. And I didn't remember anything at all about there needing to be a proper order to these things...anyways, it's done now..." her voice trailed off as Krays got the (heart?) staked, and she let the flames envelop both of her hands as she burned up the goop.
Those flames are equal parts fire, positive energy, and force. She can choose to use only one energy type at a time if she wishes, but the default is a combo of the three, even though that drains her resources faster.
"Okay," she said, standing up from the ashes looking tired. "He's charcoal now so somebody sweep him off in different directions."

She leaned against a tree. "I'm feeling a little off...I think I used too much energy in that fight. To too little effect. Give me a sec to catch my breath and then I'll be ready to head on into the castle."

Vampire Soup:
Step One: Find a vampire.
Step Two: Sic a crazy gunslinger on the vampire.
Step Three: Put five liters of holy water in a pot and set the fire/stove to a boil.
Step Four: When the water is boiling, pour the vampire's remains in and stir.
Step Five (optional): Add parsnips!
That cookbook joke would be easier to write if I knew anything about cooking.... >_>

"I can clear the castle myself if you are not up to it."

Solivala takes out his gate and tosses it down on the ground. Once full size it opens and the adamantine golem steps thru. Pointing towards the castle gate.

"Break it down."

The golems lumbering strides bring it to the castle gate where it begins to tirelessly pummel the gate until it breaks open like an egg. Solivala mean while puts away his gate then takes to the air to get a better look and make sure nothing tries to escape.

I am assuming once they saw what we did they raised the gate. :P

Asch follows solivalia into the castle blades at the ready his face still a mask of fury that makes others wonder if he is still sane or completely in the grip of the bloodlust.

"Professor Yrrum?" Michael called out, raising his hand. "I think I've got it." Actually, he didn't think that, he knew it. He had seen this semesters schedule and read up on this particular subject because it had interested him. He had read it all again in just a few short hours with a fervor that surprised him.

"Well, let's see what you've managed to create." The professor replied, crossing the room and leaning forward slightly to examine the creature. "Is it that color on purpose?"

"No, it was supposed to be gray."

"Well, getting the wrong color isn't bad on your first go. It looks healthy, and the transmutation doesn't seem to have left it traumatized, so you pass. Good work." Yrrum goes off to help another student ungraft his creature from his arm and leaves Michael to his creation.

Albin grumbled to himself as his packmates laughed. Jaiye had knocked his books and papers all over the floor and was making it damn near impossible to get them all picked up. She was enjoying his punishment way too much. That stupid Dacamara kid. He'd show him....as soon as his punishment was up. He wasn't dumb enough to go directly against an order from Jeran.

What's in the castle are all subordinates of Nicolas, so do you want to play out the combat or just narrate it out since victory is pretty much a given in this one?

If I have a vote narrate it. Just make it good. ;)

I'm all for narrate. Krays wouldn't leave a weak Ephebe behind, so it's all Soli and Asch...

What we need is someone who can cast sympathic vibration...

I may have just had lunch, but is it time for dinner yet? Which reminds me, what in the world is Ephebe eating on this little trip? There can't be enough room in the skimmer for all the food she can eat and passengers! It hasn't even been upgraded to be bigger on the inside yet(like Avalon's version school buses)!

It was mentioned earlier...she has some shells of 'Heroes' Feast' that she's been using. It isn't really enough, and she's been using her ki inefficiently which is why she's currently out of commission while the others go in and clean out the vampires' den.....I has plans for the training thing for her, but it's somewhat dependant on another story arc resolving the way I think it will. :)

Mwahahahaha! You have fallen for my evil scheme and stolen the fake notes! You didn't really think you could outwit the narrator did you? ;P

Also, I will continue with the narration of the vampire keep in just a few. I got distracted by real life. :)

The decoy probably would've been more effective if you hadn't included the real notes in the same file.

Inside, the castle was in chaos. They had expected the possibility of a fight, but an adamantine golem was beyond their expectations. The vampires and their minions were scrambling to mount any kind of resistance as any door or wall could be easily broken down. But that was the least of their problems as they had more to fear from the shadows...

The corridors were filled with mist as hordes of wounded vampires took to gaseous form in an attempt to return to their coffins.

A downward turn led into the first part of the dungeons, the part with cells full of those who have not yet completed being turned and were still trying to fight their transformation. Pleas for help mingled with despairing cries begging for death.

Whistling softly as he walks through the halls, Michael carries a small box with holes in the lid down the hallway. He had no more classes today, and was headed toward his room.

Spoiler:
For a moment he thinks he hears someone whispering, but then the sound disappears.

Male Kobold Expert 6/Slayer 8

Vakkler leaps in front of Michael from a vacant classroom. Spanish Inquisition musical cue. "Aha! What's that in the box, Dacamara?"

Sense Motive 21:
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
He seems pretty angry, though he's trying to keep up his usual (sensible and reasoned)matter.

Male Half-Elf

Having stopped to try and find the source of the whispering, Michael jumps as Vakkler appears out of nowhere.

Sense Motive:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 It's not a 20, but it works. :p

"It's my lesson from Alchemy today, sir." Michael says warily, sensing the kobold's mood. You can ask Professor Yrrum if you don't believe me."

"I haven't forgot that I have slurk duty after dinner."

Vakkler's eye twitches. "Are you willing to show me the contents?"

He seems to be grappling with the words.

I realize the contents may be meant as a surprise for later, which is part of the reason Vakkler isn't outright ordering Michael to open the box.

Male Half-Elf

"With all due respect sir, no." Michael says coldly. He slips the box into a pocket and out of sight. "Like I said, you can talk to Professor Yrrum."

He turns and rushes off to Yrrum's classroom.

Frustrated, Kitty decides to give up on her homework for now. It really didn't make sense. She hadn't been able to get any of her questions answered, and she wasn't even sure she was doing it right at all. She stood up and grabbed the book she meant to give to Michael, putting it the pocket of her sweatshirt. Maybe she could find him before dinner. Then she'd at least have someone to talk to. And even if she couldn't find him, the exercise would do her good.

Male Half-Elf

For an instant Michael imagines taking a chunk of wall and flinging it after the reptilian teacher. The image made him smile maliciously. But he blinks and shakes his head, suddenly worried. Vakkler wasn't one of his bullies, so why was he thinking about taking him down too? Shaking his head again, Michael hurries to his room and closes the door.

"That was.. I don't know what that was." He said before he saw the package on his bed. He had known they wouldn't forget. Looking at the card revealed a bit of a surprise though. His parent's signatures weren't surprising, but his cousin's was. He quickly opened the box and found that she had sent him a song file. His parent's had sent him new books-one of them quite old-and he put them carefully on his shelf.

Checking the time, he saw that there was still a little time before dinner, and decided to listen to the song his cousin had sent.

Link

"She can't possible know what I'm going to do..." Michael says as he listens to the song and shivers. "There's no way. But my name's in it.. sort of. This has got to be a coincidence!"

This is the song that not only supplied the name for this character, but got me to actually start this plot instead of letting it grow stagnant in my mind. I hope you enjoy it, because I certainly do.

Lyn, feel free to have Kitty show up at his room. I'm pretty sure it's what you were planning anyway. I know this, because we think alike to the point it's scary! :)

Image (doesn't have wings)

There is a tentative knock on Michael's door.

Male Half-Elf

Shaken from his now churning thoughts, Michael turns the music down and opens the door tentatively, throwing it open when he sees who it is.

"Kitty! It's not time for dinner yet, is it?" He asks as he hears a faint sound behind him. The little box was moving on his desk, which meant the creature inside was awake...

Image (doesn't have wings)

"Oh, no, it's just I couldn't concentrate on my homework so I came a little early to give you that book...I hope I'm not bothering you, I can come back later if it's more convenient. But, well, here," she said, pulling the book out of her pocket and thrusting it at him. "It's not exactly new and it's definitely, ummm, well loved, but I thought it would be nice to give you a book that I really liked."

The book was small and battered and the title had been rubbed almost off.
"It's about a beautiful princess who gets kidnapped by pirates and goes on adventures. It's my favorite. It has pictures, but when I was little it really bothered me that none of the characters in the books looked like me, so I kinda drew horns and tails like mine on all the pictures of the princess," she said, blushing.
