That makes sense; we shouldn't have to decode, say, a scroll we buy at a market that is clearly indicated what spell it is.

Oh, and on our return, I think we should stack up on the near right door after scouting with Perception/Listen checks and detect magic.
"Before we enter the next room we go into, we should use magic to scan it first. I can detect magical auras. I believe, Miss Tuncay, you can do the same, but for evil?"

"I can certainly try." Closing her eyes, she puts a palm on the door and focuses.

Paladin detect evil is single target, actually. Player at our table ran into that today.
Milarandei crowds the threshold with the others and has a look around.

I am rolling abysmally this scenario.
Also is it just me or does Kastarr's avatar look a bit ape-ish?

Paladin DE can be single target. I'm not aware of anything that says it can't be used in the usual way, too.

A large placard above the entryway to this hall reads "Hunting the Beasts of Legend" in great block letters. this gigantic chamber is relatively free of mist, and darkness is held at bay by braziers of radiant light.
Behemoths occupy these halls, great taxidermy nightmares such as a two-headed bear easily taller than an ogre; a great dessicated beetle, its carapace larger than the face of the clock tower of Absalom's Clockwork Cathedral; a massive specimen of chimera, its jaws open in a mock roar; and an assembled skeleton of a tyrant lizard.
The walls here are studded with strange masks, staves, spears, and other implements of long forgotten cultures, most likely used in ritual hunts of the beasts preserved here.
NOTE: On Paladin's Detect Evil...
Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
This does not mean that the paladin can only detect evil on a single item or individual. It means that rather than waiting the three rounds for the more detailed result, the paladin can single out a target as if having studied it for three rounds. So, the text beginning "A paladin can,..." adds an additional ability the paladin can do, rather than restricting the paladin.
Amina detects the presence of evil in the room.

I probably can't focus on a target I can't see though, correct?
Quietly, Amina tells Kastarr "Bad thing, this way."
Then she moves slowly in the direction of the presence, shouting "Come out, wicked thing, and end this foul affliction!"

Amina, Mila, and Fathom and Splittooth notice two of the helms beginning to crack and slough off their stony outer layers. These creatures have a blackened, bat-winged fiend's head. Tentacles dangle from its chin and scalp, and its fanged mouth hangs agape.
Mila, Fatham and Splittooth, and Amina get full actions this round. Everyone else gets only a single action -- either move or standard. It will require a knowledge planes check to know what they are.

Yeah, I figured that if I have to be at company HQ in Fremont today, I might as well hit the Legends PFS game in Cupertino, so I brought my shirt. I really need another, though, lest I wear the thing thrice in a week. Even with regular washing, and even as fashion insensitive as I am, it makes me uneasy.

I finally know how that monster is pronounced. Yay!
When she regains control of her limbs, Amina massages them a little. A little embarrassed about her performance, she compliments those who resisted the otherworldly cries. "You three handled that masterfully. Well done.
She does a quick scan of the room, looking for any injured or dead bodies. Seeing nothing I presume she moves to the nearest door, telling the others: "I believe this was the room where Nigel was last seen. We shouldn't waste any time. He could be hurt."
She will wait for agreement from the others before opening the door.

"I'm feeling understandably paranoid by now and would very much prefer that we do one more sweep with our combined 'Detect Magical Bad-Guy' abilities before kicking open any more evil-flying-heads' nests," Milarandei says, hyperventilating a little.
Suffice to say, she sweeps the room with Detect Magic.
"What in all the hells was this museum supposed to showcase, I wonder," she adds. "Was this nonsense part of the attraction? The potential liability suits alone..."

![]() |

"Thank the gods! I was worried one of us would get bitten!" Akhenethys follows and performs a sweep as well, after explaining to their feral colleague that they are searching for enemies before entering.
