I've been wanting to run Kingmaker for a while, and with an in-person game just starting Wrath of the Righteous, looks like I won't be doing Kingmaker in person anytime soon, so thought I'd give it a try here.

My background, I've been playing RPGs for close to 25 years; I'll admit that most of that time has been more roll play; but I'm striving to get better at role play and I think PbP is a great medium for that.

This is my first PbP experience, happy for any and all advice. People should be able to commit to at least one post a day, once the adventure starts; though, of course I hope there are times when we are more frequent, because we're having fun and life allows!

Character Creation
20 Point Buy

Class: Any Paizo - published class (CRB, UC, UM, ACG, etc) I'll admit I'm a little biased against the UC ones (Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai) more for theme than any other reason. However I'll allow them given a good story.

Races: I'd prefer you to stick with Core + Aasimar/Tiefling. Though, again a good story can overcome this.

Traits: 2, feel free to take a campaign trait from the player's guide, but its not required. In any case, please provide a backstory for your character that leads them to the adventure's start.

Backstory: Character backstory & hooks are very important to me. Kingmaker has room for easy incorporation of side quests and additional story elements, provided the stories fit within geographic areas of the adventure.

I'd like to try to get started within the week. I'm not going to require a full char sheet, initially; character concept and a bit of back story is sufficient. Once I accept your character in, please finish developing him/her. Also once you're in, I'm hoping you'll help choose the other PCs.

Thanks and looking forward to gaming with you!

Hi Nielsen,

I would be very interested in joining the game with Farfadet, a gnome fey-bloodline sorcerer that I created a while ago in hope of playing Kingmaker with a RL GM of mine, but sadly we never played it.

NielsenE,
I've GMed some Kingmaker. Would you be opposed to me applying with the character here? Thanks.
-Vors

Will definitely be rolling a character for this.

Thinking about a ranger.

I'd be happy to have both Farfadet and Vors in the campaign. You're both in.

I'll open both a discussion and gameplay thread shortly and the characters can start to get to know each other while we wait for more.

Sai, once you get a ranger spec'd up and backstoried, I'll review.

I'm interested, but I'm not terribly sure what I'd want to play. The two big things that are coming to me are either a Fighter, or an Inquisitor, but to be honest, I'm not even too sure on those. I'll have to give it a little time to mull a backstory and such.

Sounds good! I look forward to playing.

Thanks for accepting my application, Nielsen! I'll deal with the equipment next:

Starting gold: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 x 10 gp = 60 gp.

Lantern Lodge

Absolutely interested, most likely will want to play a druid.

Story:
Out of the Riverlands the wanderers came, a small band of elves, less than a dozen surviving, with their wounded in carts that had once carried their wealth. They had come from Kyonin for cause that they would not speak of, and they had lost more than half their number in their journey north. Most were happy to take refuge on the shores of Lake Reykal, lending their talents to the villagers there.

Ardainn, though, was not content with peaceful exile. He had left Kyonin at the urging of his lover, Istiel, and had done his best to keep the exiles safe as they traveled through the dangerous land. Near Brevoy, in a region called the Stolen Lands, they had been set upon by bandits. He had fought, but they were overwhelmed, and he was badly wounded. He was near death when they threw him in the cart and fled, but when he awoke, Istiel was not there, but none had seen her fall.

As he recovered from his wounds, word came that Rostland was seeking men and women to tame the Stolen Lands. It was a small chance, but one he could not let pass. He would do what he must to discover her fate, and pay back the men who had taken her from his side.

This is my entrant, info on the sheet. I believe I have adjusted him back down to 1st level. Every time I have played him so far, the Campaign has collapsed before we have gotten very far into the first book of the AP.

Would like to submit Asha for consideration she will be cleric/ranger. Background et all in her profile.

Lots of great submissions here; I've asked Farfadet and Vors to look these over too. Given the interest so far, I'm hoping to be able to pick two more and get things rolling in the next day or two. Fee

here is a background for a Human Caviler for consideration. Tried to leave it open ended enough that if wanted it can be incorporated into a game. Thanks for the consideration

Background:
Born as the 4th son to a wealthy family Alister was required to join the military. Trained in mounted combat he gained personal fame and rank. Though never enough for his father to be happy. On one fateful day Captain Alister was ordered to lead a mounted charge against a heavily fortified position. The thought was that 100 mounted men/women could overrun the position so that the infantry could finish securing the bandits lairs. This did not happen Alister was 1 of the 10 surviving members. Though seriously wounded and not truly to blame he was thrown out of the military. His father then disowned him saying that he had disgraced the family name. Since that fateful day 3 years ago Alister has wondered the land with no last name of his own and with only the money he could earn with his sword. Having grown up in Restov he felt the need to return for some reason. Upon entering the city he noticed that there is people wanted to travel south to "the Stolen Lands". Realizing that this is a way for him to re-earn his fathers respect or die trying Alister looks for the recruiting station.

Hey Neilsen, this is my (thestrongangel) submission. Caster style druid. Tried to give some points so she has a past at the same time leaving quite a bit open for play and use.

Farin Whitehammer is a dwarf paladin with the stonelord archetype. Below is a rough background. I hope it sounds like a good fit.

Background:

Farin Whitehammer is 11th in line to Fror Whitehammer’s legendary smith works, The Cloud Forge, in Highhelm. As all Whitehammers, Farin was taught in the ways of smiting and engineering, as well as combat and war from an early age. Despite his natural ability and years of dedication, he was never able to earn the rank or prestige of his older siblings. Constantly reminded that his elders will always lay claim to the family titles and property, Farin decided to venture outside of the Dwarven Kingdom to make his mark in the world.

Following the wind off the mountains and the winding rivers, Farin found himself in the Goose Head Tavern in Restov. Ignoring the taste of stale bread, he was focusing on the vibrant activity when he first saw the notice. Property, and gold in exchange for paving the way for civilization in the wilderness. Farin had been forging the earths metals and stones for decades and had left no marks. The answer was simple.

I offer you my inquisitor, Xerell Maj'ir! All stats and background is in his alias. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Dotting. Will be making a character shortly.

Just keeping everyone in the loop.

I have accepted two characters:
Farfadet: Gnome Sorcerer
Vors Falchen: Human Fighter

We we accept 2, maybe three more. I'll try to come to a decision by tonight. If you have time, and are willing to invest a bit before you're selecting, posting an in character introduction here so I can gauge posting style, would be great.

Subbmitting Dasios. Made him for another Kingmaker and didnt get in. Hope I will this time!

The sun shines in the eastern sky, its approaching midday and there is no one else around. Luckily Asha enjoys the wilderness, but with her stomach grumbling she knows it’s time for a break. Asha sits down on a nearby stone to rest a moment, offloading her pack and quiver then carefully leaning her bow against the side of the rock. She looks both ways down the road and lets out a brief sigh and shakes her head as she stares down the way she came.

Hrmph... I really should have gotten myself a horse. This is quite the trek. She shrugs to herself and then smiles as she reaches into a pocket pulling out a small parchment. Reading over it, now for the 20th time, she rolls it back up and stows it back in her pocket. At least I’ll be able to do some exploration and possibly garner some favor with the Swordlords of Restov.

Rummaging through her pack she finds a small parcel and opens it careful. She takes the hardtack and smoked venison jerky out making what somewhat resembles a sandwich and begins to eat in hopes of satisfying her overly noisy, rumbling tummy. A moment later she retrieves her waterskin, shaking it a moment she un-quarks it, brings it to her lips and lets the few drops of water remaining fall into her mouth. Once there is no more water she holds it between her hands and recites a small prayer to Erastil as the waterskin begins to fill with water. After finishing her meager lunch she packs everything up, hoists her pack and quiver over her shoulders then picks up her bow and continues on her way.

Liara finished gathering the last few supplies set aside for herself. The furs she brought in always were able to get her what she needed that was difficult to find out in the wilds. Lets see: salt, rope, that new scimitar I was wanting, a rather decently made shield... but that was as far as her thoughts went. Liara's attention was quickly captivated by a notice that was posted. After asking the trader she had just finished sorting out her furs with, she was headed to the guardhouse. Not that I really want to..., but there is an expedition south? That's my home..., but there is just the woods. I wonder what the Swordlords are up to this time?

After a few moments of conversation, and also suitable innocent pretending of being an adventurer, she was given a scroll. She opened it, reading carefully. Her eyes widen at the script being very ornate and also formal, and quickly rolls it back up, putting it in her pack.

"So that's the game is it..." she muttered to herself aloud. "I wonder why the sudden interest. Though I suppose if they respect the forest, and defend it, that it would be a welcome sight to have more people moving through. Might as well make my way down to this Oleg's and see what all this is about then." Liara strapped together her gear, shouldering her pack and set out on the road. Her last thoughts on the matter were a distrustful, but also with a glimpse of hope.

Deadeye, I just hope you know what you are doing...

Brief Story Idea:
He was a normal man once, with a home and a young daughter. He worked hard as a militant man and provided a suitable life for his family. He worshiped his deity Iomedae, and she saw it to her liking to keep his family blessed. However, things would not stay well in his life.

His home was destroyed. His daughter was taken from him. By the time he managed to get to her, her life was already stolen from her. His quest to reclaim her ultimately proved his demise.

However, Iomedae had a larger purpose for her follower.

Valador returned to the land of the living, as something more. He was no longer a man. No longer a soldier, or a father. He was a light. A light that was to radiate hope and justice in a realm that was growing darker by the day.

So 5 years after his death, he awakens. No memory of being killed. Long story short, most of his memories are gone, save a few. The fragmented memories are those tied to his daughter. He's not sure why, he's not even 100% sure what happened to his daughter, but every fiber of his being is drawing him back to where the campaign is going to take place, which would also be where his daughter was taken.

People there recognize him from his human life, though he doesn't recognize them. He's also not really aware that he is now an aasimar. He unknowlingly maintains a human presentation. I would like for his aasimar side to slowly present itself as he levels up and during great times of stress, like combat, etc. Also his memories will trickle back over the course of the campaign and his destiny or what have you made clear to him.

I think that establishes his residency in the campaign area, a tie to the events if you can work them together with his daughter, a reason for him to be there and active in its struggles, which may help him find his daughter. Memories trickling back in could also connect him to NPCs or events on the fly. ;-)

I've accepted in Asha and Ardainn.

I'm leaning towards accepting a fifth player. I'll try to finalize that by midnight EST.

Alistar looks around. pondering to himself I shouldnt have come back. I know I cant go to my families house. The guards would just throw me out again. As he thinks to himself he kicks his black into movement again and pulls up his cloaks hood. Hoping nobody recognizes him. He remembers a nice Inn just up the street called the The Five Courses so he heads for there. As he approach the Inn he sees several city guards that he knows from his time in the service. At the inn Alistar ties his big black to one of the many railings outside.

Upon entering he spies the inn-keep Sir I need a room for a couple of nights and a place to stable my horse.

The inn-keep looks up. Standard fee for boarding and stabling. That ok with you?

Alistar doesnt hesitate Yes that would be fine. as he places some coin on the table he finishes his thoughts Ill be in the common room. Its been sometime since ive been to town and ive been traveling most of the day. Also can you tell me where this recruitment station for the excursion south is located?

Wordlessly the Inn-keep points at a bulletin board.

Alistar nods Thank you again

Sovereign Court

I've made a character for this game. A human sorceress (Celestial Blooded) from Taldor. As for her background, here it is:

Kalima Raustald, was born the middle child of the Raustald family, a minor noble house in Taldor. She had a fairly modest lifestyle in her childhood, groomed to eventually be married off to some other noble house as tradition. What caused a crink in these plans was a sudden manifestation of magical talent, inherited from her mother's distant celestial heritage. The family quickly got her some training so she could hide her power and when she came of age attempted to continue with their plans to marry her off to the Laster family. Kalima however despised her arranged groom to be greatly and through the aid of her magic was able to knock out some guards with a color spray and then escape the estate.

She soon found however that life in the world was harsh and unyielding and to earn her keep, she had to take up the only career that would make her reasonable funds, adventuring. Having skill in magical abilities and some skills with weapons from observing fighting men at her household, she is now a rookie adventurer going the Stolen Lands to seek her fortune and make the best of her new found independence.

Appearance: Kalima has slightly tanned skin and brown hair and an attractive figure. She stands at a 5"8, with an average build and brown eyes that are fairly common color of the people of Taldor. She usually enjoys wearing finery whenever she can afford it. Despite her celestial blood, this is so distant that she shows no outward signs of this.

As for her 1st post:

The beautiful sorceress Kalima Raustald traveled a long way from her homeland of Taldor to reach the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. In her search fr employment she had come across this job offer. Before her departure She had made sure to get the proper paperwork in order from the Office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne. Bureaucracy was such a bore but it was a good idea in her mind to make sure she would not get into any altercations with the local authorities.

The life of an adventurer had been hard on Kalima, having been fed a silver spoon throughout much of her life. But a far better profession than dragging one's heels in the mud with peasant work, earning nought but coppers a day and a meal on the table for one's troubles. Indeed, if there was a way to make a living outside the establishment, adventuring is the way to go. And this would be her first great adventure in the wide world.

The call out for aid against the banditry in the region seemed like a worthy enough cause. Such crimes affected the well-being of the people in the area and if those responsible could be brought to justice, the region would become safer for the citizens there. Of course her aid would not come without payment from those with the coin to hire her for the job.

The travel to Oleg's Trading Post, was fairly uneventful but exhausting nonetheless. Miles of travel by boat, cart and footwork took its toll on Kalima but she persevered long enough to eventually reach the trading post. Before entering the grounds, she made sure to duck behind some croppings and change her clothing into more courtier attire. After all first impressions were important.

She enters the outpost after greeting those who tended to the place cordally and then proceeds to retire to the local inn locale to set up some lodgings for the night and arrange a meal.

As for Kalima Raustald's appearance, she has brown well kept hair, a slightly tanned skin tone and chocolate brown eyes and stands at 5"8. She has a slender but attractive figure to her and definitely does not have the look of someone whose worked hard in their life. Currently she's dressed in a courtier's outfit, a beautiful red and white dress of the more noble-style fashion, although as its been stuffed in her backpack for a while, it does have a few creases here and there. After putting down her backpack and taking a moment to catch her breath, she addresses those in the tavern.

"Oh hello there fellow travelers. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kalima Raustald of the kingdom of Taldor. I have traveled far to be in this outpost and I am hoping someone here will be able to tell me more about these lands and the events that are occurring. I had heard that bandits were running rapid across this region of late. Brutish individuals that they are, I have high hopes that something can be done to quell their tide and bring peace to this region."

Shael - Deamon-Spawn Tielfling lvl 1 Magus.:

She's a character with 20 point buy and max starting gold/hp. She was premade for a game that didn't last very long. Lvl 1 and created using the Teifling rules in PFSRD/Thieves AP from Paizo. I don't mind reolling her variants if needed. Let me know. :)

Instead of the standard stat block she has Daemon-Spawn, instead of Darkness 1/day she has Searing whihc means people who grapple her take 1d4 damage a round. :)

However I was wondering if Bladebound and Kensai Archetypes are available? I will make modifications tonight and get her adjusted.

I am going the route of the Dervish Dancing Bladebound Kensai. A Dex/Int build that allows her to stay mobile and deadly in close combat.

Shael slashed the thugs throat with her scimitar, severing an artery and causing him to spray his lifeblood on the churned up ground at their feet. He fell to his knees gurgling as she stumbled away, leaving him to die, nearly tripping over her own tail as she suddenly found her knees about to give out. She staggered her way to a nearby tree and leaned heavily against it, as she gasped for breath she could already smell the bark charring under her palm. Few things could withstand the searing heat of her abyssal blood and adrenaline only made her burned even hotter. It also caused her leather clothing to stink as well, she had grown accustom to the strangeness she had lived with all her life.

Her coarse black hair burned at the tips like dying ember's, constantly oozeing small amounts of greasy smoke as if her hair was truly burning. She placed a hand over where the thug had stabbed her in the back, compressing the injury as blood oozed down her dark skin. Her prehensile tail whipped around as her anger grew, again her family had tried to put her down and again they had failed. She stamped her hoof in outrage. She left New Stetven of her own volition, renounced her name and still they tried to take her life. Her injuries didn't ache as much as her wounded pride, she would savor the sweet vengence she'd rain down on them all some day!

As her anger grew the scarrified brand on her chest began to ache, a final reminder of how much her father had loathed loved her. Regaining enough strength she turned and slammed the tree with her horns, breaking the bark and scattering the charred bits into the underbrush. With the sign of her passage removed and her anger beginning to subside, she was finally able to focus again on why she had traveled so far to Restov. It had been all because of an ornate parchment her father had on his desk, which burned up the moment she had read it. However she had seared it's words into her memory. It was an opportunity she could ill-afford to miss. :The oppourtunity to join as an adventurer in the Stolen Lands... With luck I can gain a title, my own noble name and from there I can focus on my revenge. But first I need to get to Restov.: She cleaned her blade on the torn clothing of the dead thug and sheathed it before limping off towards Restov.

Storyhook:

Shael is the Bastard Child of a noble in the house Rogarvia, she'd left sometime prior to their dissappearance and hasn't believed the various rumors that the noble house is no more.

She is seeking wealth and by any means necessary to accumulate it quickly. Focusing on advancing her infernal born abilities, she believes she tied to the abyss from how different she is from everyone else, so that she can take what she needs by force if necessary.

She is Chaotic Neutral but she could easily slip into a Neutral Evil role as well. Due to her upbringing she is used to taking advantage of people to obtain what she needs and killing someone that threatens her doesn't go against her morales.

I do not PVP with other players unless its caused by Magical compulsion, so no worries on that as PVP tends to be way too destructive. =/

Traits: Magical Lineage, Bastard

Writing Style:

Fairly standard Pbp style, I think anyway... :/

Talking b-smaller-"Hello~"

Inner Thoughts b-i-smaller:ARGH!:

Posting frequency, Time Zone and PBP history:

1+ times a day, I have two kids and a wife but I will always try and get at least one post in daily.

I live in Alaska, USA so I am UTC-9:00-Alaska Time.

Been on the boards for nearly 6+ years, been in several games with only a handful being successful and ongoing. Mostly. I DM two of my own games, one homebrew the other a Wrath of the Righteous AP. Both on the boards as well. I've played Pen and Paper RPG's for over 15+ years, however that doesn't make me an expert by no means. ;)

I enjoy building custom classes and have modified some from SGG, namely the Dragonrider class. I have tested these in campaign's that I was in and so far found them marginally successful. It's a hobby so why not have fun! I tend to play fast and loose, utilizing the RoC when rules go grey-ish. :) I am not a rules lawyer by any means and tend to play characters for flare rather then Min/Maxing.

I build spreadsheets and have a prebuilt one for tracking resources and sale amount for items in googledocs. Example I have helped as a Co-DM when the DM has hard times and am willing to help in any way I can to keep the game going in the interiam.

I do however have experiance with Kingmaker, however it was homebrewed and deviated from the published AP so no spoilers. :)

Thank you for your consideration and good luck! Kingmaker is fun! :D

So sorcerer, fighter, cleric and ranger. Nice setup. :)

I would like to make a half-elven or halfling rouge. Is there still time to submit? I can make him when I get home

They are looking at adding a fifth character possibly, last slot. So build and post quickly as he will make his decision at midnight EST.

Writing sample:

Dasios walks up to the in, guiding his horse to a post and tying him off. "Alright Sheesh, people here might not react to you the same way I do. You remember that small hamlet outside Qidara? So don't lose your furry little head. Last thing I want is to get kicked out before I've had a nice meal that I didn't have to prepare."
The tall, dark half-elf quietly opens the inn door and holds it for Sheesh to walk through. He looks carefully at all the faces in the inn, ready to react if someone decided to try and kill his buddy. "You'd think with all the strange little dragons and spiders arcane users have a tiger isn't that uncommon, but what do I know? I live primarily out of society." He shrugs at his inner thoughts. He puts a silver on the counter. "A meal, a mead, and a nice place to sleep, please? I've had a long journey here."
Once he is settled in, sitting by the fire, Dasios addresses Sheesh. "So far so good, you fluff-ball." He smiles a warm smile and pets the big cat on the head.

Oh okay, let me go ahead and submit her.

Belladonna Whsiperknife is a mischevious halfling with dark brown hair and shining, sparkling hazel eyes. She dresses in dark colors but always seems to have a smile on her face. While she comes across as a happy halfling she does not like to have much attention directed towards her.

Her happy and cheerful demeaner hides her background. She is an escaped slave due to the Bellflower Network. She was rescued from her master;s household in Cheliax a few years ago. Even before her escape she had a knack for thievery, with her skills she was able to keep herself and her best friend, another halfling named, Seamus, alive. However, it was due to her thievery that Seamus was killed, he was blamed for something that she had stolen.

She excels in using her sling to her advantage but does not shy away from getting into combat, acting as a distraction while flanking so that larger allies can do the actual damage that her distraction provides. She wanders around Golarion trying to free other slaves, no matter what race, as a way of thanking the Bellflower for rescuing her, she is playing it forward.

The female halfling walks to the door of the inn, her hood up over her head. Oh Belladonna, this looks like it might be a good place to rest and get a good meal and see what is going on in this town she thinks to herself as she opens the door and tries to find a nice warm place by the fire.

She does a quick over of the bar and those that are inside, careful to look out for anyone that might mean her or anyone else harm. Discerning that everyone in the inn seems to be friendly, at least on the outside, she settles herself down by the fire, taking her hood off. As she settles herself in she begins to massage her feet, This feels so good. I must have walked farther than I thought .
