I hate the mechanic of ability score checks in Pathfinder/DnD.
There should little comparison between the strength of Grayface and that of Yasmin, for example. The 1-20 dice roll is incredibly swingy, allowing (just using an example here) a character with 8 Str to get decent roll and break open a door or trap, while someone with a 17 strength rolls a 5 and can't budge said door or trap.
At least with skills you have ranks and other modifiers to help mitigate the "swinginess" of the 1-20 roll.
/whine over!
(note, this is a complaint about game mechanics, not a complaint about this particular game! I'm still having plenty of fun.)
I would like to make a proposal to help keep the game moving. Our game has been moving quite well already, but just a thought here.
I propose that we let Rallos make some simple executive decisions about where we will be going next in the tower. Since he is the rogue who will be checking for traps and will need to be posting anyway, it just kinda makes sense to me.
We all can still choose to chime in and opt for a different area to explore, but since we'll be wanting to explore most/all of what we come across anyway I say we let one person (Rallos) go ahead to choose which door to go through next without having to wait for agreement from the party, as the general rule.
Up to you guys of course...generally, I have been waiting for at least two people to post when you are deciding directions...but if you want Rallos (or anyone else) to make the executive decision...that's cool with me...note that I can general only do map update type posts once a day (1, because it's a little time consuming and 2, because I can't do that at work)...so it might not buy you huge amounts of time...
In the meantime...are you heading north? That seems to be Rallos' suggestion...
I have added a 'Party Treasure' document to your Campaign Header - you can all use this to track 'common / unallocated' treasure and funds. You should all have 'edit' access to it.
I think it is accurate for your progress thus far / feel free to suggest changes if you think it is wrong
WARNING: I'll probably won't be active this upcoming week end, as its my and my daughter's birthday.
I got a week off from work after that, so I'll be able to post more.
FYI last round I chose not to pull back because they would've gotten multiple attacks of opportunity when doing so. ...I was HOPING to knock one down too!
Just to clarify, the difficult terrain on level 1 that prevented five foot steps, isn't present here...that was specific to the first floor (like the weird lighting)...so you could always five foot step backwards...
If anyone is interested, I am considering running a quick Occult Adventures Playtest game... I am going to offer it in all of the games I am currently GM'ing and, if I can get a group of 4 together, run something short for fun... And then, if we feedback on the playtest forums, we can all say we contributed to next year's big Rulebook :)
...so, if you are interested PM me, let me know what class you might want to play and what kind of level you would like to play at...
I have two people interested so far and will run a game if we can get to four. One person is interested in playing a Kineticist whilst the other is undecided…I think I am aiming at a Level 8 game – it won’t be a huge game, several encounters and some exploration so no need to get totally invested in a character’s backstory, etc – this one is definitely just a bit of fun!!!
Have un-ninja'd you!!! I wasn't sure whether you guys had a way to help Rallos so was just hurrying things along....Rallos can make his saves (even if it is just the difference between walking back to Fort Inevitable or being carried!!!)
I have had good interest in running a short Playtest adventure so, for those who are still keen, please head over to the recruitment thread: Recruitment Thread
Just to be clear:
*Ea will want no share of anything valuable the leather case contains
*As a priest of Pharasma, I'm not supposed to steal from the dead. For my part, I consider mindless undead (skeletons and zombies) as victims. Evil undead are something different (maybe!).
*the leather case was inside a coffin, so Ea consider this as tomb robbying-she might be wrong or not.
Ea and Grayface aren't on the same page on that. Probably Ea and the rest of the group, in fact.
Final call to see if anyone else wants in on my Occult Adventures playtest
So far we have:
An Air Kineticist played by Vrog Skyreaver (from my Wardens of the Reborn Forge game)
An Occultist played by Haladir (from my Shattered Star game)
A Medium played by Spinning Dice (from my Stirrings in the Deep game)
I will run the game with three but if a fourth person wants to jump on board, they’re more than welcome.
I want to be clear as well. This is D&D, and in D&D any little thing could be a clue, a key, a magic item, or something important to the story. I as a player am not going to leave things like that leather case behind. I'm just trying to play the best I can to help us get through the adventure.
I have absolutely no desire for inner party strife - there's nothing I dislike more in fact. Ea I'm asking you to please ease off Grayface a bit because I'm not really sure what you're trying to accomplish by accusing him of crimes against your faith over and over. I understand the RP but the accusatory tone is getting a little tiresome.
I'll do my best to tone it down so. Tomb robbing is just one great taboo (in my opinion!) of Pharasma faith, so Ea can only be uneasy about that, and maybe react without much diplomacy (and she's not really diplomatic to start with). She made her point, but didn't threatened you.
As a player, I have no problem with Ea getting no money from stuff found in tombs, leaving her share to the rest of the group. Fighting the undead, and destroying the source of the living dead, is her own reward.
And finally, I want you to know there is nothing personal against you, Grayface. Ea would have acted the same way with anyone, in that group or any other. Believe me, I understand that Ea is not your typical cleric, curing everyone. I want her to evolve from her actual emotionless state, but rushing things wouldn't be believable IMO. She has to learn to care for other people BEFORE they die.
If you watched the Six Feet Under TV series, she's kind of a mortician who has lost touch with humanity (at least i'd like to play her like that.)
I think some of us are spread around the world, so just in case it wasn't apparent or already stated, this is Thanksgiving Holiday weekend here in the states. I have lots of family around this weekend so I won't be able to post much, if at all until late Sunday or maybe Monday morning.
