Hey, Gray, good to see you again! Hope you come back to play with us at some point!
What all systems have you played with? If you haven't tried them out yet, I'd recommend looking at Savage Worlds and Mutants & Masterminds for inspiration, especially if you're going for an a la carte feature system.
One neat concept we're working on is a sort of limited metacurrency that the players can opt to use (call it "Luck" for lack of a better term at this stage. Very similar to Hero Points in PF) to modify rolls, empower their attacks, or enable a better outcome. The trick is every time a players uses "luck" they have to pay a toll in the form of that same currency to the GM, a sort of "fate" pool. (We're calling it "pushing your luck" or "tempting fate") The GM can then use that pool to pull similar tricks against the party. We want to make it more dynamic and fun that this may sound, but its a work in progress.
That sounds kinda fun and it resonates with a Board Game I've been playing with my eldest - Rise of Moloch. That has a mechanic where the 'heroes' have some basic powers but to activate their more interesting and fun abilities they have to spend Aether (of which they have a limited but refillable pool)... the pay off being that the Bad guys (it's a one vs many dynamic) are then given that aether to use to power up their cool stuff... I suspect it's not a unique mechanic in board game terms but it's a load of fun - and I can totally see how it could be used in an RPG environment...

Please note I am fairly flat out at work trying to get a report finished by the end of this week... apologies that posting has been scarce - normal service should be resumed next week!!!

Well, luckily that tied in with me not being able to post due to losing my job and having to find another one. BUT! I did, in fact, find a new one so I'm all good!
Just a heads up, I've got a lot on my plate at work this week, so I'm going to be a bit spotty this week with posting. Hopefully, I'll get on top of things and I won't have to put in 10-11 hour days next week.
Also, happy to hear that worked out for ya, Murassa!

Hey, sorry it's taken so long to respond, but my new job is killer on my time right now. Been kept super busy, and I'm basically falling asleep as soon as I get home. I'm hoping that it slows down at some point, but we're working a lot of overtime for the next couple weeks. If you can bot me for a bit, I'll post when I can. Sorry about this so soon after coming back from a long hiatus.
Folks, my holidays appear to have crept up on me with little time to think about PbP - sadly, it seems that I will going old-school and will have no wi-fi for a week... long story short, I'm not going to be in a position to post anything until the 13th August... so, hope you all enjoy a bit of summer - if you are in the Northern Hemisphere... and I'll see you on the flip-side!!!
Just wanted to peek in and say hello, and to ask if anyone picked up the Playtest book. I've got my hardback and I haven't delved too deeply yet but I'm intrigued. Any thoughts?
Welcome back! I hope things are going better for you and yours now. :)
My wife and I are doing our best to stay strong for each other. Some days are pretty emotionally rough but we're doing better. We actually started a Ketogenic diet and I've lost over 50 lbs of my fat gut which has been amazing for my health and state of mind. My buddy just started a 5e game at his house so I'm easing back into gaming. Maybe I'll make it back to these boards (for gaming, not just commenting) sooner or later.
Yeah, just to echo in... seems like you've got some good stuff going on in your life right now - and some 5E with friends has got to be good - let us know how it gets on... and, feel free to hang around to watch how this ends :)
...and here I am!!! The summer has gone, the children are back at school and the slow hike towards the christmas break has commenced... in other news, it seems that the Paizo website is holding up for more than a few hours at a time!!! Let's carry on!!!
This past weekend it was. Had fun with my momma and sister down at the beach for my birthday. Got to go to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola and just had fun hanging out and pigging out. :P
Hey y'all. I hate to do this, but I'll be bowing out. I've mentioned in other games that I've been thinking lately, and said thinking has lead me to decide that I need to step away from PbP, or at least mostly away from it.
It's been fun. I wish y'all luck and God Bless. :)
I will. I'm going to be working on some skills and see what I can do with them. Depending on how things go, I may have some things for you to look at in the not so distant future. :)
Nooooo!!!! Really sorry to see you go! You're the life of the party, and I'm not sure what we'll do without you. But you gotta take care of yourself first. Whatever you're up to, best of luck!
Wipes cobwebs away, brushes himself down... coughs several times and steps, blinking into the light...
Soooo... life kicked me, again and again - some self-inflicted (new hobbies) and some work, home and other stuff that just landed in my lap... long story short, I just couldn't go on... and, as I found it impossible to access PbP whilst travelling (I had six weeks in Oct / Nov where I wasn't commuting by train and that killed my ability to GM....) - and then, it built up and up and up... and I got grumpy about PF2.0... yada, yada, yada...
In the end, and for my own sanity, I just logged out and didn't think about RPG'ing for a goodly while... I am so sorry for leaving you folks hanging and without any news of where I was (or that I was, at least physically, fine)...
Life isn't kicking me anyway near as hard these days and so, if folks wanted to push this through to its end then I'd be up for running it - and if not, well I am so sorry for just disappearing on you folks and maybe we'll meet each other at another table one day...
