Round 2
Ratrod: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 3 = 9
Ratrod Piloting: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
The Racers are released from their holding line, rocketing forward. Right away, fire is exchanged and almost all of the racers are hit. Quite quickly Laboni and Ratrod pull ahead of the rest of the back. Leaving them far in front of the other racers.
Current Lineup of Racers. Not Init order
1st Place: Ratrod at the 550-foot line
2nd Place: Laboni at the 500-foot line
3rd Place: Nyizin at the 275-foot line
Tied for 4th Place: Lemgem, Velocity, and Orsis at the 250-foot line.
Remember. For these attacks, you need to add your Drives stats to the Ships stats for each attack and piloting check. Your Range Attack Bonus should be your BAB+Dex. Don't think there is a size bonus on either of these. Not worried about Range since you're in a fracking ship.
IMPORTANT include what type of attack it is you're using. It makes it easier on me to see if they hit and what not.

lemgem's pilot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 was I suppose to roll that last round?
lemgem's special: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Data is feeling accurate today as he focuses on one ship really hard. The velocity of the ship, plus the wind, plus the angle, plus the speed of the laser, taken into the account the steel is made of, taken into account the easy of hitting the weak spot, means I can hit that vehicle really well.

Velocity laughed aloud, the tinny sound of the overcharged megaphone he had mounted outside his junkracer projecting the sound across the racetrack, punctuated by the heavy chunk-chunk-chunk as his two prized 'velocity canons' pounded away while he stomped on the gas.
Piloting: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 straight forward!
Kinetic Canon 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 at 1d2 ⇒ 1 (1=Lemgem, 2=Orsis)
Kinetic Canon 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 at the same target!
Aight, so just to confirm I'm doing this right...
Piloting is 1d20 + 10skill + 2vehiclemod - 4 to attack - 4 to attack
Shooting is 1d20 + 7skill - 3vehiclemod
GM Amsheagar |
Okay. I had to relook at some of the rules. When you fire a weapon, you take an -x penalty to your piloting skill. That modifier is -3 for all of your Racers. When your weapon deals damage to another racer, that damage isn't in the form of health points but hampers the piloting skills of that driver. I didn't include the -3 in the first round. If you did, let me know. From now on, on your piloting skills, do not include the -x modifier. I'll take that into calculation when I take into count the weapon damage you deal with other Racers.
A booming voice is broadcasted across the field of view, for both the viewers and the Drivers.
Entering into the 3rd round of the race, the leadership has just shifted and Ratrod is no longer in first." boos are heard from part of the crows. the announcer continues. "Laboni has taken the lead and shot a little forward." cheers from another section of the stands out shadow the boos. "Following Ratrod is Velocity in 3rd, Nyizin in 4th and tied for last are Lemgem and Orsis."

Despite the slow start, Velocity was sure that his race plan was the best. No one could beat his Velocity Canons! Shifting in his seat, he reached out for his microphone and through the squeal of the bad jack boomed, "Velocity is coming for you, little Rat man. Prepare to be... Evelocerated."
Heh, evelocerated. That's a good one. Maybe I'll name my racer that.
Velocity pushed his racer ever onward, aiming straight for the back of Ratrod's junkracer. First the champion, and then one other challenger between Velocity and the finish line.
Piloting: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 to ram Ratrod from behind
Kinetic Canon 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 firing straight at Ratrod
Kinetic Canon 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 firing backwards at Nyizin
First round I messed up and did just the vehicle modifier, second round I included everything other than enemy damage to Velocity. This round, as far as I can tell, you just want the base skill roll and then you'll do the modifiers for vehicle, shooting and damage?

Frustrated by her inability to make headway, Nyizin activates her turbo boost again, refusing to fall any further back.

Struggling to keep the pod moving, missing the shot does nothing to improve her mood.

Data does not fire weapons as he does not want the vehicles in the lead to mess up his piloting. Although, Lemgems special special: 1d4 ⇒ 2 although it seems weird that you take a -3 penalty for firing a weapon, because every vehicle has a passenger, so that shouldn't mess up the pilot
GM Amsheagar |
I think it might be bad scenario writing... As far as I can tell from the Core Rule Book, you have to choose one or the other and you can't fire. However, this Scenario has it where the ships are firing at each other. The way it's described in the stat block, there is only one person in each vehicle and the targeting system is actually in the controls where the pilot would be distracted by firing.
Don't forget to make your piloting check as well though.
Isho Ishi. |
If these are supposed to use the Starship rules with 1-person crafts then you want Minor Crew Actions on p326 of the CRB. You choose to make your 'main' action, whether that be Piloting or Gunnery or something else, and then may take either (or seemingly both) Minor actions if there hasn't been another action in the Piloting or Gunnery section respective to 'Glide' and 'Snap Shot.'
If they are supposed to use the Vehicle rules then 'Piloting' is either a Move action to 'drive' or a full-round to 'race' (CRBp278). I assume if you 'drive' as a move then you can fire a weapon/s are your standard since "Firing a weapon mounted on a vehicle works like firing a normal ranged weapon... Some vehicles have weapons bound to their steering devices... These can be fired when you are piloting, though you normally can't fire the vehicle's weapons on the same turn you race...." (CRBp281)

Coming up in the 2nd half of the race, the Racers have shifted position quite a bit. Still, in the first place, Laboni is leading the pack and her fans are going wild. It has been one interesting race. The Pilots are very skilled and are changing places almost every round. The Announcer comes back onto the intercom. Fast forward a few hours
You are gathered for a celebration with all of the drivers attending. You can see Laboni talking to Ratrod and she comes to your group. "I wanted to say thank you again." she nods her head at Ratrod "He has asked me to join his show, as a part of the racers normally. I would ask you guys to come along and help, but I know how busy you are." she reaches into her bag and pulls out a package. "As a reward for helping me win this race, I want to give you this."
You have received a new Item.
Though these suits of light armor appear to be made of stiff fabric, they are actually woven from carbon fibers. Higher-quality carbon skins are reinforced with carbon allotypes, such as white carbon or diamond, and the heightened sheen of the fabric hints at their expensive construction.

"Yeah, weare quite busy indeed. Thank you." Joker's response is cold, not wanting to make a situation but still upset that the Society had to dispatch a team to cover Laboni's big mouth.
"Alright, guys, I guess we should inform the boss, shouldn't we?"
Osuro |
"Thank you, Ratrod. I think we all appreciate the suits."
Gives us the opportunity to use them in the rest of the module, even if we don't buy them afterwards, yes?
I'm ready to move on.
GM Amsheagar |
Laboni presents the PCs with a set of graphite
carbon skin armor and 400 credits from the race’s prize pool.
I think you only get one suit. The Item isn't listed on the Chronical Sheet, so unless you can get it from a shop (i.e. the main book) You can't receive it as a bonus.
A little later that evening Laboni, a little tipsy from the party, gives your party a part of the winnings, 400 credits. The next day you return to Radaszam, who immediately send you out to another location.
The Lorespire Complex, home, and heart of the Starfinder Society is a striking campus dedicated to knowledge. Communal labs and historical departments study the Archives’ massive collection of artifacts and texts, gathered by generations of agents from across the galaxy. A quick search of the directory indicates Historia-7 frequents the Archives’ Cortex, a computerized matrix containing digital records of the Starfinder Society’s most prominent discoveries.
The android reclines on a raised chair and is plugged into the local infosphere when the doors open. The neural cables detach themselves from her neck as she swivels in her seat to address the new arrivals.
“Greetings, Starfinders,” she says calmly. “I am Historia-7. If you are seeking a mission from me, please be aware that my request requires both discretion and speed. Do not accept it if you feel incapable of working within these parameters.
“I discovered someone recently hacked into Bluerise Tower’s computer systems and stole a large amount of sensitive data from the resident corporations. I wish to be privy to this information. I managed to trace the hacker’s location through many proxies and erased the trail so that station and corporate security should be delayed in their pursuit. This deception will not fool them for long, so you must move quickly to retrieve the data before they can recover it. I will leave you to decide what to do with the hacker afterward, but should it be feasible, I believe that person would be an asset to the Society.”
Osuro |
Well, if I remember Starfinder Society rules correctly, you can purchase items of your level +1 (and lower) without having them on a record. Graphite Carbon Skin Armor is Level 3. So, we should be able to have one character wear it for now, but it will "vanish" after wards, i guess.
"So, find the hacker, grab her and the data, and bring them both back? Seems a solid choice."
Isho Ishi. |
The race, at least from the sidelines, had been an easy time. Isho had already put in his hard work fixing up the moving scrapheap that Laboni called a racer and so all he had to do was watch as his fellow Starfinder piloted it in for the win.
Watching Laboni get accolades for the win was a bit more of a bitter experience. He had been the one to fix that tub up. She was the one who put her own foot in her mouth and got bailed out. It rankled. It itched. And yet Isho kept his mouth shut, even when she handed over a fraction of the winnings she made. The Universe would come through, it always did. And while his compatriots were busy reveling and celebrating the win, the Universe certainly did come through as Isho was left holding their 'reward' of the protective suit.
Disappearing back into the race pit, by the end of the night Isho had managed to spray paint the entire Graphite Carbon Suit white to match his code, trim it down to size and dawn the now garishly white suit. Yep, the Universe always comes through.
The next day Isho followed his companions through the bustling of Absalom Station back to the Lorespire Complex and Historia-7. He would have preferred spending some more time with Radaszam since he was apparently the Faction head he should be getting close to, but there was a job to do. The job itself seemed almost too easy, falling right into their laps. Isho didn't trust handouts and this seemed too good to be true.
"Just to be clear, we're not walkin' into some sort of gang hideout or nothin' are we? One hacker, hanging out all alone, and that's all you need?"
Since no one else has spoken up for it, I'll don the Graphite armor since all I have is a Stationwear Flightsuit. Too bad we don't actually keep it :/
Joker Jones |
Discretion. Well, Joker's good at it. Or he used to. This mission seems appropriate.
"What do we know of that place, Bluerise Tower?"
GM Amsheagar |
After Joker asks his question, Historia-7 explains "The Bluerise Tower is a private office structure maintained by multiple corporations and legally protected to the point that even the station’s Stewards have difficulty entering." showing an unmistakable human reaction, Historia-7 shrugs. "I don't know Why these corporations need such absolute sovereignty over their own affairs. It is a question of great interest to many people. I believe that the companies know more than they let on and that's why the Society needs you to investigate. "
Once you accept the mission, she gives you the address and you are on your way. When you arrive, you see an apartment that resembles a cement cube... somewhat boring. Several tomato plants are sitting on the porch. Each one planted in a plastic barrel. There is a young man tending to the plants. He doesn't notice you approach and keeps working on cultivating the fruit.
Isho Ishi. |
This is just silly, Isho thought to himself. One hacker amongst hundreds, if not thousands, on Absalom Station and they were sent to collect the person. Hacker's weren't militant people, at least the good ones weren't. Isho would know, he had dabbled after all. You had to if you were trying to build a decent little AI setup like he was with Pointy.
With a sigh, Isho followed his team down out of the Lorespire and across the Station, using them to avoid collisions in the busier corridors and terminals. When they finally came to the location, a boring little apartment block, he was unsurprised. If it had decent connection to the Net and the hacker was worth their weight in salt then this was probably just as secure as any other place they could hide. Also less conspicuous.
When he realized there was some human kid outside the apartment they were looking for, Isho said, "Hold on one sec, let's make sure he doesn't bolt."
Reaching to the side of his backpack, Isho unhooked Pointy from the side and with a flick of the wrist deployed the drone's swivelling hover mounts. He tossed Pointy into the air and with a quiet whoosh of exhaust the drone spun and then bobbed at about Ysoki head-height. Isho then spit his tablet control out and spun up the system, sending Pointy flying far up and over the kid before coming down and approaching from the other side.
"Alright, if he runs Pointy should give him a good spook and slow him up. Who wants to go talk to the kid?"
