Above, near the building, a greenish mist begins to coalesce. Thin at first, its density increases to the point that seeing the building comes nearly impossible. It engulfs the uppermost part of the hill and then begins to roll down the hill, slowly. The party might have a minute before it reaches them.

When the 'corpses' of the slain devils fall down, Lu looks oddly satisfied and smiles slightly.

"Good riddance ..."

She pokes one of the bodies with the tip of her boot as it disappears in a puff. A bit disappointed that it actually *did* disappear, but such was the nature of magic.

"Poison mist? Interesting. Let's see about zat door zen! Which of the rocks lacked a necromancy aura? I'll take a look at zem while you figure out how zis zing works."

She nods towards the door and awaits directions, before setting off in a light sprint towards any of the un-necromancied stones.

There is a stone near the outside of the hill, and it takes only a few moments for Lucrecia to climb to it (and climb she must, for the hill is pretty damn steep). Her new half-orcish form enables her to see clearly so that she can climb well and so that she can read the message on the stone.

The stone is small (perhaps a foot and a half of stone sticking out of the dirt of the hill) and rounded on the top. Carved into its face is a short message in Giant: "Griphook Rendwattle - His axe rips flesh even where his brothers cannot follow him"

It's dated, too, but not with the standard system. Lu doesn't recognize the date.

There doesn't appear to be any obvious opening mechanism to the door. No handles or catches or anything. The only feature of the door is the small circular hole.

It does radiate magic, and it protected by some sort of variant of arcane lock.

when the gas gets to within 30 ft praetorius casts gust of wind. if the gas continues to come afterward he will cast wind wall

if any bats show up they will serve me for 1 hour and i will direct them to fly so that they are not in the gas then figure out what to do with them later

gust of wind's loud whooshing of wind clears a line in the gas, but the clear air is very quickly replaced by more gas - it seems to be getting generated from somewhere.

So, in response, Praetorius creates a sixty-foot high wall of wind that encompasses the area that his allies stand in. The gases are deflected harmlessly off of the wall, and float up for several feet before dissipating. Unfortunately, this doesn't really seem to dispel the gas, exactly, but manages to hold it at bay.

Meanwhile, an aura of darkness begins to form around Praetorius. One by one, and then two by two, bats begin to materialize and fly around Praetorius, building in a massive swarm. First dozens and then more than a hundred bats surrounds Praetorius, flying in a big circle, screeching.

Lucrecia stands at the very edge of the wind wall, and cannot reach higher areas of the hill without exiting it and going into the mist.

12 rounds of safety (from the gasses) is guaranteed by the wind wall.

My vote is that we fly over the cloud, moving towards the house. I'd be willing to bet money that these stones animate corpses below once we're within the house, however. High Mage, do you channel Positive or Negative energy? I feel this might very quickly become relevant."

Lu laughs as she leans in to examine the shall rock. Hmm. Small. Rounded. Either someone really felt like a graveyard would fit or ... With her right hand firmly gripping her sword, she used her left to try and pull the stone loose. If it did indeed come loose, she'll throw it back towards the door and the rest of her team.

"See if zis fits zat 'keyhole'..."

Worst case, we just get to face a quick giant fight right now. But at least we know how the rocks work :P

*sigh* "It's hard to trust a puzzle when I don't trust the creator." Sparel says as examining the door.

Looking away from the door at the gas then his companions Sparel sighs again. Once again calling upon his mythic nature Sparel pulls the spell matrix from the ether and releases/casts it as he touches each companion in turn.

"That will keep the gas from harming you for a number of hours." Then looking directly at Praetorius, "I'm not sure the gas would even affect you, but best err on the side of caution."

To the group again, "Unless someone can figure out how to open the door we may as well head to the obvious landmark and prepare to fight. Flight is probably the best mode of travel. I assume everyone can, correct? If not we'll want to rectify that after we leave here. I can pull the stones up to us to examine as needed."

Sparel, did you cast life bubble on yourself too?

Lu pulls the gravestone out of the wet ground, and tosses it to Sparel. He doesn't catch it, but it rolls around in the ground at his feet. Moments later, as everybody is discussing the plan and Sparel is protecting everybody from the apparent poisonous gases bumping up against their protective wall of air, there is a rumbling in the ground.

Lu has no time to reach before a greyish, rotting hand bursts out of the loam below her and wraps around her ankle.

CMB vs. Lu (DC 43): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (18) + 34 = 52

She is yanked off of her feet as an immense humanoid form bursts from the hillside beside her. He lifts Lu up into the air and then throws her bodily, through the wind wall and towards her allies, to crash into the wall.

Lu takes damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 1) + 12 = 15

"You DARE defile my grave?" the giant booms. Its form is hunched over, but even so it stands 15 feet high. Tusks jut out of its wide, smiling mouth and long, apelike arms end in thick hamhands obviously used for tenderizing living flesh. In addition, this creature is clearly undead - one of its eye sockets is empty, only rotting flesh evident there. There are several open wounds across its body, and its ribcage is showing.

Even as it roars, the hill explodes in many other places across its surface, and nearly a dozen growls, roars, and stampings of feet reverberate through the Arena.

Keiko has just begun to fly when this happens, and she finds herself very close to the first cave giant zombie now, even within twenty feet of it, and amongst the poison gas.

Hanging upside down and waving her sword around, Lu shouts back defiantly - "You shouldn't have such an ugly grave if you didn't want it defiled, you sorry zing!"

Keiko seriously considers continuing with her scouting mission, but based on the setup assumes that there is not an infinite number of these monsters, and that the sooner they are dispatched the better.

She drops behind the zombie that Lu angered (Such that Lu could close to Flank on her turn) and unleashes a quick flurry of stabs and slashes. She briefly becomes visibly before disappearing once again.

Fleet Warrior to move up to move speed, in this case landing behind zombie, then making a full attack. Swift action to re-use Vanishing Move for regular invisibility at end of turn.

Praetorius happy with his wind magic doing something useful turns to see the undead and gracefully moves almost as if gliding and drawing his undead bane greatsword.

Praetorius reaches back with his right hand and draws a lighting bolt from the quiver on his back and throws into the undead.

Keikos momentarily distraction is all Lu needs to bring her sword to bear. Still hanging upside down her flailing turns into controlled trusts and she sends some ungraceful, but workable, stabs the giants way.

Praetorius especially - I give you guys the save information so that you can roll for saves yourself, and then tell me how much damage it is.

Keiko and Lucrecia close on the first cave giant ghoul, stabbing at it with their rapiers and with Keiko's gladius, and together (along with a roaring lightning bolt, thrown from the tips of Praetorius' cold fingers) the first giant falls to the ground. (re-dead)

Sparel transmutes himself with flight ability and then rises into the air, taking no actions in combat for the moment.

With two combatants visible, the ghouls - six of them, though two are charred by electricity, and each armored by breastplate and armed with bastard swords, charge into the fray. They are accompanied by two thrown rocks from more giants on the other side of the hill - rocks which crash into the ground near Praetorius without actually hitting him, as the agile vampiric knight weaves from side to side to dodge.

Praetorius is soon accosted by a pair of the Iron Ghouls, with another on the way, while three more more to intercept Lucrecia.

Battle is joined! Three ghouls swing swords at Lucrecia, who weaves and parries her way to a lack of injuries. The same goes for Praetorius, whose armor and thick skin absorbs any attack that he cannot dodge.

As the battle progresses, the mist begins to fade - in seconds, its entirely gone.

Still invisible, Keiko launches herself into the air (Fly still active on her) and zooms towards the source of the boulders at top-speed.

"I'm off to deal with the big guys!" she bellows as she departs.

Along the way she scans the area with Arcane Sight for any further auras of interest.

From his floating perch Sparel pulls a strip of cloth off of his glove with a slight tearing sound as stitches easily break (Shrunken glove) and casually drops it to the ground. As is falls the cloth unfurls and grows in size and weight landing with a thud as a large Spiked iron ball. (Dense object weighing 225 lbs.)

Then with a flick of his wrist Sparel sends the ball flying at the nearest enemy that is not presently being engaged by one of his companions. (Not sure of the map, but I aim to squash something without squashing an ally.)

Keiko takes off into the air, flying towards the source of the thrown rocks. Within a few moments she encounters two more giants, spaced by a dozen feet, just having finished hurling some rocks. They grunt, look at each other, and then begin to charge.

Praetorius, in melee with three of the ghouls, heaves his greatsword around and quickly dispatches one with a pair of swings. The other two leer and move into flanking position to attack him.

Lucrecia is having a similar amount of luck amongst her ghouls, avoiding any harm through her amazing quickness and dispatching one of them through a flurry of rapier blows.

Sparel drops a huge spiked mace to the ground and, with a spell, flings it at the ghouls fighting Praetorius. The mace misses the ghouls entirely, flying by them and crashing into the wall.

The ghouls unleash a flurry of sword and claw attacks at their opponents, having maneuvered into a flanking position to better strike. To neither Lucrecia or Praetorius, they are able to deliver a blow. That is to say, both of the pirates come out of the attack completely unharmed.

The giants charge past Keiko at a high speed (Number 3 provokes an AoO, which goes unheeded) towards the other combatants, primarily Lucrecia. They use their increased reach to attack her, one reaching in towards her with big, meaty hands and the other just slamming her at high velocity with its fists. The fist is just too big to stop with her rapier, and so it slams her for

Reeling from multiple stab wounds and slashes, the gave giant that Keiko attacked whirls around and lunges at her, arms wide and ready to grab her. When Lu steps closer in to attack, the other giant uses the opportunity to swing a fist at her before going in for a similar lunging grab.

Keiko is wrapped up in the thick, muscular arms of her attacker, and it opens its mouth with and begins to lean down towards her head. Lu is slammed by another giant-fist following her victory with the ghouls, but avoids the grasp of her opponent, nimbly jumping out of the way of its lunge.

The one remaining ghoul attacking Praetorius flings its sword to the ground and tries to just constrict him, pulling his arms together in an attempt to get him to drop his greatsword. Unfortunately, Praetorius is much stronger than the ghoul and forces his way out of the grapple. He takes a step or two back, away from the ghoul...right into the flying spiked ball thrown by Sparel.

Praetorius takes 33 damage.

The last ghoul and the second-to last giant fall to Keiko and Praetorius' attacks, who are both quite strong. Keiko falls out of the de-animated undead giant's grasp, landing nimbly on her feet while her huge target strikes the ground with a resounding "THUD".

The last giant roars a hollow roar and reaches out to try and envelop Keiko in its arms, seeing that she appears "vulnerable" and seeing her overwhelm its ally.

Grapple (DC 44): 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (5) + 36 = 41

Unfortunately, luck is just not with the creatures, and Keiko slips out of its big hands like a cat.

I've rolled quite low on all of those grapple checks... which is probably good.

She twists as she pulls it back out, only to leap up with her gladius towards an exposed shoulder. She continues ripping and tearing until her foe moves no more.

Sparel's investigation of the shack doesn't yield very much - it's a poorly-built wooden shack. Two stories, all of its windows are barred shut. It has a classic, southern-style porch great for sipping sweet tea on in the sun, and one entrance.

His magic-detection turns up a couple of things - the walls are reinforced by sneaky walls of force and there is a faint, unidentifiable aura of necromancy.

Sparel feels an intrusion into his mind, but he shakes it off momentarily, continuing to circle the building.
