Markizio Voralius |

He turns to Markizio. "Good to see you upright. Shame about your nice shirt though."
Still spitting out sand, the magus just shakes his head... and quickly started cleaning his new burgundy shirt.
He looked out to the water, "So you think we scared them off for good or are they going back for reinforcements?"

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

The half-orc slumps to the sand, plopping onto the wet beach where he lays back and spreads his arms out to catch his breath after the vigorous battle. "Kung see ripples too. Maybe they see now not good place to attack."
He just lies there and breathes for a minute, then props himself up. When he sees the state of Markizio's shirt, he examines his own. "Markizio! Red good color! Look," he exclaims, holding a section of the shirt away from his body to show it off, "you no see the blood!"

Ghilda catches her breath now that the enemy is defeated. "Your poor blouse - well, it's good as new again, I see." Ghilda sees the rippling out in the sea - "If they come back now, we'll need reinforcements..."
After gathering her party around her, Ghilda summons Besmara's positive healing energy. "Stand with me to be healed!" After her pleas to the Pirate Queen are answered, everyone is fully whole. "Thank you, Lady Besmara."
"Let's grab all these tridents and leather armor - some value here!"
GM - how many tridents and leather armors are there? I'll account for everything.

The next action takes place on Tidewater rock that night.
Please tell me where you are, either aboard the Drake, or in the Tower.
Those on the Drake taking the night watch can make a perception check. DC11.
As you stroll the quiet deck you peer through the night mists rising off the sea water. Just as you are about to turn away you pause as suddenly you catch a glimpse of black sails making for the Rocks harbor.

Louisiana Jane |

perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Jane looks around, "Hey, look at that." Jane points towards the black sails. "What do you make of that?"

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Kung has gotten very used to life on the ship, so prefers to sleep in his hammock on the Drake. Unless Marnir has ordered people to sleep at the Rock because of the sahaugin, that's where he'd be. When the ship is at anchor like it is now, he likes to string his hammock up on deck to catch the sea breeze.
Jane wakes Kung up with her comments and question; he pulls himself as upright as one can be in a hammock and looks where Jane points.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
"Hmm. It ship. Black sails. That not good, Kung thinks. Sneaky. Maybe they try to attack? Kung thinks we should wake more crew. Maybe sound alarm, ring ships bell?"

![]() |

Ghilda is asleep in her cabin on the Drake, trying to recuperate from the battle to be refreshed in the morning. So, I guess, I'll need to be awoken by LJ or Kung.

Markizio Voralius |

"Hmm. It ship. Black sails. That not good, Kung thinks. Sneaky. Maybe they try to attack? Kung thinks we should wake more crew. Maybe sound alarm, ring ships bell?"
Markizio had also taken to staying on the ship and giving the love birds their privacy. That tower-keep was not very big anyways.
When Kung wondered about ringing the ship's bells, the magus had no doubt and ordered it. "Ring the bell! Everyone alert and ready. Unannounced guests are coming. Be ready for a reception."
When some of the sailors just stood there for further orders, he barked, "Get your weapons and be ready for a fight. Hopefully it won't come to that but go get ready!"
-------------
Markizio will also send for the captain if he's not on the ship. How much time until the ship arrives?

![]() |

Hearing the commotion on deck, Ghilda comes out a little bleary-eyed. "We sure seem to have attracted someone's attention here at the Rock...I trust Cap'n and m'Lady are making the most of this..."
Ghilda looks out to sea, and she makes out the dark sails heading towards the harbor. "Besmara, who would this be? Where is the captain!?"
-----------------
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Louisiana Jane |

Jane moves to pound on the captains cabin door. "Hey Cap'n, You're needed out here now."

GM_DBH |

Just awaiting Marnir's location.
Meanwhile, those aboard the Drake can make another perception check. DC18
As the dark ship slides into the small harbor you see two longboats, packed with buccaneers cast off from it. Striking out towards the tower at full speed, just before a sudden mist falls over them, hiding them from your and the towers sight.

Louisiana Jane |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Knocking on the door, Jane sees not the dragon dive bombing the ship

Marnir Saltvig |

Sorry, was sick yesterday.
Marnir spends the night in the Rock, ensuring he has a good dinner and then spends the evening recovering from his injuries.
Do I get any warning from the Rock's lookouts?

Marnir Saltvig |

In which case...
Marnir sleeps soundly in his comfortable bed on the top floor of Tidewater Rock.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Now becoming more awake, Kung examines the approaching ship for more detail.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
"You see that?" Kung exclaims, pointing towards an area of misty and fog floating along the water's surface. "Two boats! Full of men. Going for KEEP!" No boats are visible within the mist that Kung points out, but he seems quite confident that they are there.
"We have to warn Cap'n. Still in keep! Ring bell louder. RING BELL LOUDER!!!" He bellows at the poor sailor tasked with the bell before ripping the clapper from their hands. Kung throws the clapper back and forth with all of his might, nearly shaking the bell free from where it's affixed to the post as he begins yelling across the water. "Cap'n! Cap'n! Foes! Awake, awake! CAP'N!"
Kung is currently inclined to dive into the bay and swim for the keep. How far away are we docked; would such a thing be possible? Kung is an incredibly strong swimmer. (Endurance, Marine Terror, Savage Sailor, and Sea Legs all come into play)

![]() |

Ghilda, like Kung, fully awake now, sees the two boats heading to the keep. As Kung rings the bell, she yells for everyone to go to arms. "We need to get back to land, NOW!" Instead of swimming, can we, and as many crew as possible, get on boats to head to shore?
------------
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

GM_DBH |

Yes, you can make a swim check, or take a boat back to shore easily. The Drake is moored in the harbor, so the shore is close by. The other ship seems to be coming for the Drake slowly.
With 30 Buccaneers on the longboats the other ship can't have enough crew left to board the Drake. It's task will be to keep the Drake out of the fight.

![]() |

"Markizio - they're coming for the Drake. I must stay here. Please get to shore and rouse everyone who can get back out here!" Ghilda casts Guidance on Kung and on herself.

He makes a beeline towards the beach that leads up to the keep, pulling hard to try to arrive before the longboats can.

Markizio covered his eyes trying to peer through the mists to no avail. he had seen the number of sailors on the longboats and exclaimed, "With 30 sailors coming ashore, there can't be enough crew to attack the Drake. They are going for the tower!"
He then yelled to his sailors, "Get a boat ready! We must go ashore."

Jane watches as Kung's actions before seeing him leap into the sea. Pulling out two flasks, she hands them to Ghilda. "These will heal your wounds." she says before mixing up another mixture and jumping into the water after Kung. Drinking the mixture in mid leap, her feet grow webbing in between her toes and fingers. She swims up easily to Kung.
"How do you feel about rocking those boats?"
The two flasks are Preserving Flasks which allow me to store a spell in them. I put two CLW into them for now. The spell i casts while leaping into the water was Monkey Fish and my swim in a 9, so a 19 on most occasions. If it needs to be higher, let me know and I'll roll.

GM_DBH |

New map up top. Tower beach battle. Random roll put the Drake 30 feet off shore, so Kung has splashed up on the beach the same time as the two long boats. Several of the Buccaneers are turning to face Kung. Your boat will arrive next round. To save time I'm ruling you have 4 crew members rowing for speed, so those of you with a ranged option can do something while your long boat is closing.
Marnir, you are on the tower map, 4th floor. The roof guard has sounded the tower bell now, so you are awake and struggling into your gear.
Party actions can go.
Then the Buccaneers, the mist that hid their boats has faded away now.

Marnir Saltvig |

The loud tolling of the bell on the roof above his bedroom awakens Marnir quickly, and he starts to gather his weapons quickly while barking out instructions. "Ready to defend the door! Bowmen to the roof!" he shouts as he makes for the stairway. I hope the Drake had more warning than me, he worries as he charges down the stairs. Markizio and Kung will have got the crew moving, I'm sure.
GM, how far down the stairs can I get using my whole turn?

Markizio Voralius |

Seeing the two longboats emerge from the cover of the fog with so many pirates gave Markizio cause for concern.
He weaved some magic to aid him in the coming battle and an a barely visible shield appeared by his side.
As was normal, he tried to lighten up a very serious situation, "Kung! Wait up! leave some fun for us."

Marnir, you make it to the top of the stairs this round. Two doors to open slowed your rush. Next round you can run down the stairs, but it's risky.
There is a loud crack and a flash of light from the front of the tower as a bolt of lightning hits the tower door.
With a agonized sound the tower door is blasted into splinters, a loud roar of triumph rises from the gathered Buccaneers waiting to storm the tower.
I'm not going to call for a spellcraft check for a Lighning bolt spell. It's what it says on the tin.
Buccaneers:
Two rush Kung and attack while the others are forming into a group to take the party on.
Green
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Orange
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Both miss pathetically.
The party boat skids onto the beach and you all pile off.
Ghilda The wind is coming off the harbor onto the beach, it's fairly strong and wouldn't stay for more than a round. It covered the buccaneer long boats as they were rowing in with the wind.
Party actions now please, the buccaneers on the beach seem to be delaying you rather than seriously attacking, it's the tower that's their main objective.

Marnir Saltvig |

Marnir stumbles to a halt at the bottom of the stairs, readying himself and preparing his protective magics, when a loud crack heralds a shower of splinters shooting across the room. The remnants of the door blow inwards and Marnir narrowly avoids being impaled by the broken locking bar.
Seeing the tower breached, Marnir begins to prepare to receive an assault on the Rock. He draws his axe, summons his illusory duplicates, and steps into the doorway to block the invaders. Looking over his shoulder at the guards he bellows "Get more bowmen on the roof! Prepare to repel boarders!"

My bad, I misinterpreted which door. If I have time to get into my armour before combat starts then that's fine. If not and I have to do it after rolling initiative then I'm not going to bother - it's going to take at least a minute to don my breastplate hastily by which time the fight will be over and we'll have won or everyone else will be dead. It's going to take me a good few rounds to get down there anyway.
Can I retcon my move then? I'll still cast mirror image, and still pull out my axe as I move, but I'll start moving down the stairs instead. I'll make an Acrobatics check just in case that's important.
