Ghilda and Jane, you both take 1 point of damage (Nonlethal) as you get a clout with the knotted end of a heavy ships rope. "I decide what your jobs are scum!" Plugg sneers at the pair of you.
He fingers his whip and gestures to the mast again. Now climb or you'll be a part of the evenings entertainment!
Barnabas II is the leader so far, 7 checks to the top.
To get what you know about Harrigan & the Wormwood you need a Knowledge (Local)check

Louisiana Jane |

Jane shrugs and starts to climb.

GM_DBH |

Kung you take 10 damage from your fall.
Plugg glares at you as if you had deliberately fallen, but it's obvious a man with a peg leg is going to have trouble climbing.
Ignoring you he turns back to make sure the others are climbing. Which means Jane and Ghilda can't aid Kung.
A very good looking redheaded woman gives you a hand up, as you are between her and Plugg he doesn't see her make a gesture and whisper something.
Cure light 1d8 + 2. You get 9 HP back.
She also says very quietly to Kung. "Careful matey, keep your heads down and do as he says. Pluggs looking for a chance to flog someone."
@Barnabas II, you need two climb checks to get down fast. DC 5 as you have the mast and ropes to aid you.
@Ghilda.Check your spells, if it says you need a Divine focus to cast it, then you can't, your holy symbol is gone at the moment.

GM_DBH |

So now Jane, Barnabas II & Ghilda have made it up, Jane and Barnabas II first equal on 7 checks each.
Barnabas II is still leading, his last Climb check was better than Janes.
Jane, with your Profession (Sailor) skill you know you don't want to be a rigger. It means being up on the masts all day hauling heavy ropes, with a lot of Strength checks!

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Kung hops back a bit after the woman whispers to him, and looks at her confused for a moment. He pauses, studying her face, then nods. He turns back to the mast and begins attempting his climb again.

He reaches the crows nest without much further trouble. When he gets to the top, he makes sure that it's only his companions from the hold and that nobody else can overhear. "There are friendlies on the ship. Red hair. Healer."

Barnabus II |

Baranabus had just reached the top when the Half orc fell with a loud thud, he admired the man did not scream knowing it was going to hurt, he was about to head down when Kung was back up and climbing very well......
He reaches the crows nest without much further trouble. When he gets to the top, he makes sure that it's only his companions from the hold and that nobody else can overhear. "There are friendlies on the ship. Red hair. Healer."
"That is well, I too have a minor ability to help and heal, First they talked of no killing and then they send us on this I assume one of several tasks."

Louisiana Jane |

But being woken up... and roffied the night before, don't think we have any chance to prepare spells. :(

![]() |

Ghilda senses the stored divined energy of her spells still with her. Thanks, GM "Aye, it is a blessing to have at least one kind person here...we're going to have to stick together. Not looking forward to the trip back down." Ghilda chuckles nervously, while Chorley contemplates this new playground.

Louisiana Jane |

Data will peak out from Jane's hair. Sees the monkey playing on the ropes and jumps from Jane's shoulder to land near him.
"Yeah, The trip back down will be easy." Jane says with a smile. "So, have you guys thought of a plan to get us out from under this pirate's thumb?"

Barnabus II |

"Take in the view, it will be a glimpse of freedom on the far horizon, or it will be view without hope, either way we are here. I have a debt to settle with someone over this as had I been asked I might have agreed for a chance to search the islands for the mysteries of the ancients."
Barnabus steps into the crow's nest and douses himself with water via the create water orison.....
"Who is next?"

![]() |

"Besmara will watch over us, but we need our possessions back too. A fine squirrel you have, Jane - may be useful if he can behave better than Chorley." Ghilda sighs at the monkey.

Ghilda taps her shoulder, and Chorley jumps on. I think I can communicate empathically with him.

Louisiana Jane |

Watching as the small monkey jumps on Ghilda's shoulder, Jane laughs a little. "Data loves ships, he might be out in the rigging for some time."

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Barnabus steps into the crow's nest and douses himself with water via the create water orison.....
"Who is next?"
Kung steps forward. "Yes, cold water. What ancient mysteries. Gold? Lost treasure?"

"Once I'm back on the deck, I'll let him run around, but up here, I feel safer with him close." In a hushed voice, "There is a small boat there, main deck, port side."

"Witch, do share more about what you seek...mayhaps we can look together. Besmara smiles on those who seek fortune." Ghilda smirks at Barnabus.

Louisiana Jane |

Jane looks at the small dingi Profession Sailor: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
"It's designed for 6, but can hold 8... Don't think it will do too well on open or rough waters though. It's mainly used for going onto an island when the ship can't dock."
Figured i would know something about them, but wasn't sure how much my natural born sailor, from a house of shipping is allowed to know :)

GM_DBH |

knowledge local 1d20+10
"This ship and this captain I have heard only tales, gossip and rumor, though mostly I listen for tales of what I seek..."
@Barnabas II. What you know of Harrigan is that he's a longstanding captain. Not on the Pirate council, but with some influence. He's known to be bloodthirsty and ruthless. Starting off as a swab himself and making his way to captain. Often by killing the one above him. Rumor has it he recently tangled with a Chelaxian warship and suffered heavy casualties. No doubt that's why he's come to Port peril and taken on crew, willing or not.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Kung looks around him. Is there enough room for all of us in this crows nest? Is it obvious what kind of work is required up here, or is there another boss of some sort up here to give direction?
@GM: It was a 60' climb up here (from the deck); how far to the water? What kind of DC would be required to dive into the water from the crows nest and survive? How about to do it and look good at it?

Barnabus II |

"The Captain has survived a long time, started as a deckhand and promoted himself drow noble style, killing and taking the place of those formerly above him. He is blood thirtsy and ruthless, thus the drow noble comparison, recently he battled a Chelaxian warship, for reasons that are unclear, and suffered heavy casualties....."

GM_DBH |

@Barnabas II. It's general knowledge that Cheliax and the Pirates of the Shackles are mortal enemies. When Sargava broke away from Cheliax and became independent Cheliax sent an armada to take Sargava back. The Sargavans paid the Free captains of the Shackles to attack the Armada, which they did, destroying it.
Since then there have been two attempts by Cheliax to invade the Shackles and destroy the pirates. AR4643 & AR4660. Thanks to the constant storm, and the treacherous winds and currents of the Eye of Abendego the Shackles have a strong barrier against Cheliax. However ships of the two will generally attack each other on sight.
It's currently AR4716 on Golarion. Just in case anyone was going to ask?

Is it a specific date? I can track on Hero Lab, for what it's worth.

Softly, to her mates on the rigging, "Ahh, I am not familiar with Harrigan, but he sounds like one not to be taken lightly. I suppose for now we play along with these curs and be wary of any chance to escape. Though, for good pay, I could stay on!

GM_DBH |

You're all lined up back on deck. Congratulations Barnabas II you are now the Wormwoods new rigger.
Mister Plugg stalks the line looking at you nastily. "Right." He snaps, "Fishguts is drunk again! I'm sick of eating swill, which one of you swabs can cook?"
Dorgan took 9 checks to reach the top, but didn't fall.

GM - please let us know when an hour has elapsed since Jane and I took a blow from the knotted rope LOL. I believe non-lethal damage heals at 1 HP per hour.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Kung stands silently.

Barnabus II |

"Devil spit! I am an experienced explorer, look at my arms...."
Somehow innately Barnabus feels the magic within him shift and begin in changing him....though he may be dead before it happens....
"Aye! Aye sir!"

Louisiana Jane |

Jane looks around at her newly found friends. "Maybe the experienced explorer knows how to cook. As for me, I can't do much with meat and vegetables... other than eat them."

GM_DBH |

@Ghilda, for your lip you take another 1 of nonlethal damage from a rope bash.
Plugg glares at you spitefully. "Get your worthless hide to the galley Dwarf, you're the new Cooks mate!"
He smiles cruelly, "And make sure it's decent or you'll have the crew after your blood as well."
@Barnabas II. You are sent back up top to work the rigging.
The rest of you are assigned to work the decks as swabs.

GM_DBH |

@Barnabas II
You are working with four other sailors.
Conchobar Shortstone, a foppish Gnome, dressed more like a dandy's idea of a pirate than the real thing. He wears an obviously fake eye patch, a plumed hat, and a lace festooned purple shirt. He gives you an unfriendly look as you join them.
Barefoot Samms Toppin, a Human woman, as her name suggests she is barefoot. She seems indifferent to you.
Ratline Rattsburger, a ratfaced Halfling, with long arms, and three missing fingers. He too looks indifferent.
Maheem, a big Human man from Rahadoumi with a permanent scowl, his look at you is decidedly hostile.
Task for the day: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Your work for the day is rigging repair. A DC 10 (sailor) or (Dex) check is required to perform your work successfully.

GM_DBH |

@Ghilda.
you are sent to the galley, walking into a scene of culinary carnage.
The cramped and chaotic kitchen holds two wooden worktables, several
wooden cupboards, and two small stoves against the port wall, as well as virtually every cooking utensil imaginable and a frightening array of meat cleavers. A score of chickens and three goats wander freely throughout the chamber; the goats are meant to be caged, but have a
distressing tendency to escape their bonds. The kitchen is a madness of dirt, food, and knives, and finding anything in here requires a Perception check. The stoves are perpetually lit, and large cauldrons bubble away atop them all times.
A huge array of spices mingle with barrels of rainwater, two tuns of rum, cupboards full of ship’s biscuit and salted beef, barrels of sauerkraut, and a small supply of fresh vegetables picked up in Port Peril.
Fishguts Kroop, the often drunk ships cook greets you pleasantly enough.
He's drunk today, but not insensibily today, and he describes the job
of the cook’s mate, which basically entails helping him prepare meals, and actually acquiring food for meals by fishing on a fairly regular basis.
Leaning closer to you he whispers hoarsely. “It’s poison, this ship, but don’t let anyone hear you say it aloud. The hull listens, see, and the cap’n hears it all. Poison the Wormwood is, though, rotten to the core. You’ll not meet a more nasty, sour piece of work than Cap’n Harrigan in all your days at sea, and his crew’s the same, ’specially the first mate, Mr. Plugg. Vicious little sod, he is. He’d take his own mother’s liver to the butcher to make pies with, he would. But they
leave me alone, mostly. They know I can’t ’arm ’em.”
Your task for the day.
Cooks mate: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Today you get to cook for a crew of pirates. DC 10 Profession (Cook), or an intelligence check please.
Picture of Fishguts in the campaign info.

GM_DBH |

@Kung, Jane & Dorgan.
You get the happy, rewarding life of ships swabs.
Kung Swabbing: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Jane Swabbing: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Dorgan Swabbing: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Kung and Jane, you are swabbing the decks, a DC 10 (Str) or (Con) check not to be fatigued at the end of the day.
Dorgan is sent below to catch rats. A DC 10 (Stealth), (Survival roll) or (Dex) check to kill enough rats, cockroaches and beetles to qualify for a good days work.
You are working with a group of sailors, including the redheaded woman who healed you Kung.
She introduces herself to you as Sandara Quinn. A wooden symbol of Besmara dangles around her throat, just above her enticing cleavage.
As she works alongside you she tells you she was press ganged as well, only a night or two before you were. She whispers advice, "Keep your heads down and your mouths shut. Plugg's a vicious sod and he's looking for excuses to punish people. Scourge is his lackey, and a spiteful bastard too!"
She explains her first night aboard Scourge suggested she could earn favor by bedding him, to which she responded by slapping his face and letting know what she thought of him. "Some of the crew are with Plugg and Scourge, they'll try to get you in trouble, so watch your backs and make friends yourself."
Showing how serious she is about making allies Sandara waits until you are unobserved and slips you some of your gear she's managed to wheedle out of the ships quarter master. "Cutthroat Grok's not a bad one, she's strict on all gear being the Captains property, but she's superstitious. You can bluff her by telling her something is cursed, or unlucky."
For Barnabas II she's managed to get you pipe and tobacco back, along with a club.
For Jane She hands you your formula book, and spell component pouch, along with a dagger.
For Ghilda she has her holy symbol and her dagger.
For Kung she couldn't get your big weapons, but slips you your brass knuckles and a club.
For Dorgan she got his spellbook and a dagger.
A picture of Sandara is in the campaign info.

GM_DBH |

Decided to split the posts as it's getting very long.
Working with you as swabs are:
Rosie Cusswell. A short, fierce Halfling woman, with more muscles than most of the crew, and a fouler mouth! She is indifferent to you.
Crimson Cogsworth. A shaven headed Human male, he is unfriendly towards you, and everybody else.
Giffer Tibbs. A bedraggled female Gnome with one eye. She is indifferent to you.
Jack Scrimshaw. A young human male. He is indifferent to you.
Tilly Brackett. A tough looking human female. She is indifferent to you.
Badger Medlar. A Half-elf female, with her hair shaved into stripes. She is unfriendly.
Shivikah. A very tall Mwangi Human female. She is unfriendly.
Aretta Banison. A bad tempered human female with big ears. She is hostile to you.
Fipps Chumlett. Human male. A fa, pushy bully. He is hostile to you.
Jaundice Jape. A humorless, mute Half-orc. He is hostile to you.

Louisiana Jane |

Jane will do an average Job swabbing the decks during the day and tries to make small talk with the only other gnome on the ship. She speaks to Giffer Tibbs in Gnomish.
"Only thing i miss from home, seeing other friendly gnomes and having a good drink." she smiles at the gnome. "What was the locale tonic where you lived?"
diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 11 Any bonuses for being a fellow gnome?

Barnabus II |

Barnabus thanks Sandara for both the information and his pipe and tobacco back.
He wishes he could ensorcel the club as he had know druids to do...
Barnabus focuses on the task at hand but decides to visit the quartermaster himself today....
Rigging DC 10 1d20 ⇒ 8
He likewise decides that it is possible that Maheem is glaring at potential competition for the affections of the barefoot lady....

Barnabas, the ships quartermaster is a female half-orc charmingly named Cutthroat Grok. Noting the savage scar across her throat you can see why she's called that.
Grok's image now in campaign info
She's used to impressed sailors wanting their gear back, and states firmly it's now the Captains booty. Fingering her notched greataxe meaningfully.
What are you using to get your gear out of Grok?

Barnabus II |

"Perhaps Grok you misunderstand me, I will not fight you, I am a witch, ill omens and curses are my stock and trade, I also do healing and tinkering on the side. Let me show you my power!"
Barnabus fills a tub I hope there is a tub with water...
.
Barnabus immerses himself in the water...
"I will stay under until you agree to return my gear, if I drown they will likely think me dead and think you killed me...."
Lays down for a restful nap....

Kung thanks Sandara. "Nicest things anybody's given me." He says, smiling.
He goes about his days work as normal, taking an opportunity to glance into the Officer's Quarters (A4) when nobody is looking.
