Yeah, at character creation you choose normal or variant. Can't have both and can't switch back.
Thanks, makes up for my earlier miss. Nothing like a good brawl in the morning to get a pirate going!

Hi all, I'm back! Thanks for your patience while I was gone. :)

You kicked ass in the fistfight! Who'd ya see at the music festival?

Can everybody access the images in Campaign info?
All the links above, including the images in the google drive, work for me.

A long list. :) Electric Forest festival in Michigan. Highlights included String Cheese Incident and STS9 for me.

Sounds fun - last music festival I went to (Jazzfest in New Orleans ages ago), I was hungover for about three days.

*Everybody* kicked ass. That Evil Eye is nasty.

Everyone acts like you need cackle to go with evil eye, but I will try and make due without it for at least a while.
If I am ever MIA, assume I evil eye going for saves first....

Got it.

What was the final accounting of damage/healing to Kung in the morning's battle? I never saw the result from the Cure Light that Jane provided.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Easy enough.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

I didn't see anybody else post claiming any other weapons, so Kung will take them all (2 cutlasses, 4 daggers, and a throwing axe). If that doesn't work for anyone, please let me know. Kung is going to try to trade for his greatsword tomorrow.
Ghilda, can Kung get one of the bottles of good liquor you found, to also help with the trade?

Marnir Saltvig |

I grabbed a dagger off Syl as a spare, but I don't need any of the others.

Marnir Saltvig |

GM-DBH - I had a thought earlier. I was looking for which NPC I wanted to influence, and had to look back a few pages to find the list. Similarly I noticed that you're reposting the list of actions every day.
I wondered whether it might be easier if those things could be part of the campaign info tab - it stops us hunting round for lists, and stops you having to repost stuff.
Just thought I'd suggest it.

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Okay, I'll record 3 daggers on Kung's sheet when I get home later today, with the cutlasses and throwing axe.
Also, Marnir, I found a complete list of crew in the "S&S pictures & maps" link above. It wasn't announced, but it's there and helpful.
For tomorrow, can anyone give Kung any skill check bonuses? Luck is preferred, if it's possible.

Couple of questions (and sorry I'm late!):
GM - do I need to do any check to swipe the six bottles of brandy in the galley?
Kung - yep, I'll give you a bottle of brandy if I get more than one ;)

GM_DBH |

Do we have a secure place to store our stuff while aboard the Wormwood?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that.
You each have a locker (about the size of a small chest) in the crew quarters (A10). It only has a simple lock on it though, so any one with disable device can open it.

No, you easily swipe the brandy and store it in your kit. As I said it's worth 20gp a bottle.
Best not to use it on Grok while Fishguts is around though Kung. He probably would remember it then.

Regarding my addiction (hurray) - I'm addicted until the next rum ration, and if I make the Fort save then, I'm no longer addicted? And do I roll the CHA bonus (nice lol) and the fatigue penalty? I'd like to chat with Sandara, and so the CHA bonus will help.

How much does each bottle weigh? Same as a bottle of wine (1.5lbs)?

You are addicted, when the next rum ration comes around it's DC 7 if you drink it. It's two DC 7 save's to shake the addiction, and you lose the 1d3 con while suffering withdrawal and regain it when you have made two successful saves.
The Brandy weighs around about 2 pounds a bottle. Solid glass in those days.

Thanks, GM. Do I roll the CHA bonus and the fatigue penalty? I apologize for all of my questions, but I want to play the game correctly (at least technically - my RP needs work :) )

Good spot on the crew list Kung, I didn't see it!
Man, stuff moves on a lot overnight! 29 new gameplay posts this morning!

Barnabus II |

I am starting to think that we should try and do things we are more suited to....somehow I shifted an NPC to friendly, but I have no skills and a low CHA, same with sneaking around, not particularly good at it.
Anyone got a better idea for being more effective as a group?
Marnir can perhaps perform to distract/entertain while someone is sneaking?

![]() |

Yeah, I'm not too stealthy or charismatic either. I can have my monkey perform too along with Marnir. I think our best "sneaker" is LJ, of course. Chorley's dance

Barnabus II |

Yeah I was thinking I might be better off trying to aid another on some of those rolls, than rolling individually.....
That dance is sure to boost Marnir's next performance by 2!

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Kung hasn't been making the most strategic choices for these day/night actions. But he's also got a 7 Intelligence, so I forgive him.
I'm a little surprised that nobody tried to stop him from a) wooing the npc we've already shifted to friendly, b) using more stolen booze to do it, c) when he's already got his gear back and thus has nothing to gain. But, hey, he was really proud of his plan when he made it, so he's sticking to the plan!
;)

Marnir Saltvig |

Working together sounds like a good idea, especially now our characters are getting to know each other.

Barnabus II |

I honestly thought Kung was going for a RP hook up.....glad to know he was "taking one for the team"

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

Well, he's doing that too. She's the only female half-orc on the boat, and did you catch that leer? Rawr.
But it's mostly a case of him falling in love with a plan, and not really thinking through the fact that the plan is kind of pointless now.
There's a fine line when playing a character with such a low INT. If I take it too far, please let me know. I feel like I have to be fair to the low ability score, but don't let me use that to sabotage the game.

GM_DBH |

A problem I've seen with a lot of S&S PBP's is this part of the AP.
Aside from a few minor incidents for the following days all you do is morning and night actions, get to know the ship and crew. Steal a bit, make friends and enemies.
This is fine for a live group, you can burn through it quickly. In a PBP it can drag on for over a month and it really saps interest.
So to speed it up and move us onto the meat of the AP I'm thinking of having you all level up now to move through quickly the setup stages and into the violence.
You now have a feel for what skills you need to survive and thrive, leveling up would make the grind smoother and faster.
How do you all feel about this?

Louisiana Jane |

It doesn't seem too bad. I wouldn't mind it.

![]() |

Personally, I would prefer to grind through the PbP as I am new to the game, but I realize that I would probably get a little bored with the ship day-to-day soon. As long as I can ask some questions, I'm happy with moving ahead, especially if the rest of the team wants to do that.
In short, if the majority of us want to "skip ahead," fine by me!

Barnabus II |

Either way is fine with me. If of course you have something you can steal from a module or something that might make leveling a little more interesting I could go for that as well.
Even something super cheesy like pirate skeletons climbing the hull of the ship.....
....and we let them kill off some people who dislike us.....

Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |

I see the sense in that. You know the adventure better than I. I'll defer to the group and your expertise. I have no objection either way.

GM_DBH |

When I ran this for my live group I started them at 2nd level as I thought it would be brutal for a 1st level character.
They found it easy enough, though they did say if they had been 1st level one bad roll on a climb would have ended them. And they are all veterans of over 20 years role playing.
It can be a grind this part, as Barnabas suggested I am thinking of slipping one or two small encounters into it, both for some excitement, and maybe a little loot. :)
You're all handling it well, especially on the role playing side, on the mechanical side of things the dice have been good and bad for you, as always.
Ghilda, questions are always welcome, I'm enjoying how you have Ghilda playing, it goes well with the different types the others are playing.
So, unless Marnir has a serious objection, we'll finish the day with the Night actions, then you can all go to 2nd level. Please send me your updated character to look over.

My INT may be 13, but in reality, I am no simpleton. I cannot figure out how to level up using Hero Lab.
