Or is there some kind of pecking order amongst them? Like one is "better" than the other or something?
Kishara |
Kishara keeps thinking too, looking at the depictions of the different kinds of Sphinxes as she tapped her lips with the tip of her finger. Now fairly certain she has disarmed whatever nasty surprise was waiting, she was ready to try something. Looking at the androsphinx, an idea came to her and she barked a surprised laugh, smacking herself on the forehead for not realizing it sooner.
"Oh, I get it! Ha! We're in a Pharaoh's tomb, yeah? And look here at this one, all decked out like the Pharaoh. What do you wanna bet, he's the king of sphinx, huh?" Grinning now and sure she has the right of it, Kish selects the image of the androsphinx first. Provided the world doesn't end she picks the gynosphinx next. "And what's a king without a queen? She's bound to be next, but I don't know about these animal headed ones. Do you think predators before sheep, Enora?"
I'm pretty confidant those should be the top ones, but no clue what ranks where among the all-bestial ones. I'd guess Jackal next, just based on Anubis being a pretty prominent figure in Ancient Egyptian lore.
Agraic |
I was thinking more figurative, but unfortunately there's no good way for Agraic to ever have come across the idea of 'top to bottom'? The Falcon in the sky, the man then woman (if ancient Osirion was patrilineal), then ram, jackal? But that's purely ooc conjecture, and like I said, no good way to even get a wild-arsed idea about it? Though...
"Do the carvings have different cash values, mebbe?"
Shifty |
Worst case, maybe there is a clue elsewhere? or ONE assist might have got Enora some more info :p
Kishara finishes disarming what she believes is probably the main trap, a nasty scything blade that was aimed at the doorway - where someone would be neatly carved up if they were say... playing with Sphinxes...

Carvings cover the walls of this otherwise bare chamber. Two statues of men with jackal heads stand against the western wall flanking a pair of ornate stone doors.
The hieroglyphs on the walls are a series of prayers for the deceased’s journey into the afterlife.
You identify the statues as representations of Anubis, the Ancient Osirian god of the dead, mummification, and tombs.
PF Society Pregen |
Well done, everyone! Enora exclaims, taking a moment to examine the hieroglyphs and statues (without touching them).
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Prayers, for a departed soul's journey into the afterlife. Makes sense, she says, nodding. These statues are depictions of Anubis, the Ancient Osirian god of the dead, mummification, and tombs. If you wish to inspect this room further, I suggest you tread carefully, the halfling warns, stepping back to allow Kishara and the others a chance.
Henrick Bulwark |
Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
"Not that this should come as much surprise, but these writings are prayers for the dead, helping them on their journey to the afterlife. These here statues? This is Anubis, an Ancient Osirian god of the dead. Also, in particular, the art of mummification and tombs. Very appropriate here."
Henrick scratches his head. "This door may well lead to the principle person that was entombed here, and given the others that have become undead, may very well be undead as well - or even the cause of these long dead returning to their tortured state. Well, best be checking it out, then, eh?"
Agraic |
"Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but y'think maybe we could check the rest of this corridor first before we pop into that area? Don't need anything sneakin' up on us while we're busy with who knows what, right?"
Heading out of town, Agraic is pretty easy to bot, will try to check in on the weekend, but no guarantees.
Kishara |
Kishara nodded in agreement with Henrick. "As this room was hidden and the door protected by a puzzle, seems likely this is the way to the Pharaoh's tomb. Of course that means the defenses should be tougher as well."
She gave the room a quick look over, still looking for traps and hidden dangers. If she doesn't see anything to worry over, she will move into the room, dagger in hand.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Re: Agraic's paranoia - I'm not saying it never happens, but it's rare to see anything besides "baddies wait patiently in their rooms until disturbed" in PFS scenarios and mods. So heading down to the end of the hall with enough light to see would be more likely to draw attention and bring something after us than just heading on into the secret room here.
Agraic |
Oh, admittedly so. That's his experience (table variation of a couple of scenarios he was in plus background) speaking. I would concur with you as a player, Kish, but we've already noted Agraic isn't quite right in the head for Reasons.
The barbaric guisarme-wielding grizzled man watches the corridor he was indicating warily but doesn't advance further down it without the rest of the group going with. This place has been painfully creepy thus far, and he's not a soloist.

Will update shortly, but Soul, are you robbing yourself a bit with the Companion? Skill rank+Class skill+Cha(not wis) BUT you get +4 to handle animal when dealing with your Companion, so I reckon you are out a touch, and also a training harness gets you +2 more - save you needing so many checks as you pretty much then autopass. Just on the fly, so you might be right, it just didn't look right to me...and looked like you were ripping yourself off :)
Side note guys, if you can't hit the thing hard, might also be worth considering some aid anothers...
