The ruined monastery is exactly one of those places parents warn their children about. I wonder why...

Baldek returns shortly, this time with his armoir well adjusted and a wide grin beaming across the entire room.

"So, where are we going?"

"We're here." He points out the town's location.
"And the monastary is here." He points that out as well. "We'll take this route so."

Liberty's Edge

Actually, it'll take an armorer to fit it right. The smith doesn't really have that skill, but can make simple adjustments, and does. The armor will quickly grow uncomfortable, and may cause problems in combat until fitted by a pro.

Liberty's Edge

Antonio works out a perfect path around the lake - right up to the water's edge. It's a bit beyond that.

Liberty's Edge

As everyone leaves the 'Mug and heads up toward the road, there's a ruckus. Several farmers are running towards the village, in a panic.

AAAAAHH...something is coming! It's been killin'...

This is it. This is what I've been hearing - what I was awakened for! I can sense the evil, drawing closer!

Alyra stumbles a bit, but immediately heads in the direction of the screaming farmers.

Please, quickly! Many lives are at stake! Be prepared!

"One day, I'll be able to cast anything." Sakuro muttered as she hurried forward, following Alyra towards the danger instead of away from it. The woman had been a faithful and true guide thus far, and if she thought this was important, Sakuro wasn't about to disagree. Now, what magic would be most effective here...?

I'm confused. Are we just outside the inn, or at the monastery? And what's the approximate distance between the two? Thanks! :)

Baldek frowns at the farmer's cry, and even more at the dark omen that Alyra seems to read from this. He unsheathes his axe and readjusts his helmet: "What's going on?!"

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia'Nikta's mind raced, an ill feeling flooding her stomach. Her hand slid to her whip as she ran and she drew it her shield coming out also. They would need to get horses for all of them. Her own horse she had been walking beside and he just trotted with her as she ran staying out of everyone's way.

'This is an off feeling. What the hell. Spirits above bless these adventurer's so they may fully vanquish the foe that will come to light.'

Reiko stays mostly silent throughout the route planning, and makes ready with the rest of the group when they set off. His apprehension of what they'll find at the monastery, and what it may mean for him and his past takes up most of his thoughts. When Alyra cries out, it shocks him out his reverie, and he draws his katana, looking for the threat, until he realizes they still have a ways to go before it's visible. He follows Antonio.

Aya steps up to a farmer she knows, and fires off some questions. What is it? Where?

The farmer shoots back answers, barely slowing. I don't know what it is, nobody has seen it, but it's trampling through the trees, knocking them over like cornstalks!

Liberty's Edge

Suddenly, on the far side of the stream, wood splinters, and trees bend and snap, but nothing can be seen!

"Something like that would usually be pretty big... invisible?" Sakuro asked, looking towards the far side of the stream as she prepared a Grease spell. That couldn't hurt, at least, right? Assuming she could see the enemy well enough to target it. "If we do find out where it is, I'll try to trip it up." she added verbally, remembering that telling others about her plans was the responsible thing to do.

I am back, at least for a while. How far from me is the wood splintering, and trees bending and snapping?

On the Lakeroot map, everyone was heading toward the bridge going north. Right now, everyone is maybe 150 feet away.

Not easily seen, and utterly inexplicable, is a mass in the foilage. It has no shape that anyone can make out, being totally invisible, but you can see that it's quite large - certainly bigger than any of the ogres.

Alyra quickly links any she can, reaching for each of you in turn.

"Crap." Sakuro actually had Glitterdust in her spellbook, but she didn't have the experience necessary to cast second-level spells. If she had, about six seconds of study would have solved their problems. Well, all you could do was all you could do...

There is an extra scroll of glitterdust somewhere in the party.

Trusting Alyra's sense that this is a potent evil, Auric targets the beast with his smite. "I will put myself in harms way... If anyone can bolster or heal me it would be most appreciated; if you can injury the creature at range you probably should, if you need to close with it do so carefully... I'll try to keep its attention but I won't be able to guarantee your safety."

All right, she'd have to avoid catching Auric within the range of her spell... Sakuro held onto her magic, though, ready to spread grease across the ground once the creature came far enough out of the water.

Ready Action: Cast Grease on the enemy, avoiding allies as much as possible, once it's out of the river.

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Is there a particular knowledge check I can make to identify the creature? Also it's got to make a save versus blindness if it has sight at all of I remember.

Nia'Nikta would study it's outline trying to identify it so she could use her bardic magic to assist.

Baldek smiles and sets his new helmet as the giant steps in the water. He immediately rushes forth, hoping the river will hinder the giant, and the river bank will provide him with the higher ground. As he runs, he feels the rush of battle take over him, lifting his feet, fuelling his arms.

And as he reaches the bank and a shower of sparkle outlines his foe, he laughs gleefully: "Hehehe! A giant I now see!"

OK, everybody take a look at the Lakeroot map.

As you went to the road, heading for the bridge, the farmers came screaming down the road.

Follow the stream east to a small clear area - It broke through the woods across from there. You all went toward the back of the 'Mug, following Alyra, after quick questions near the front. Assuming you kept moving, you're about one square (20') from the back of the 'Mug as it clambers out of the stream into the clearing.

Thanks for this; that helps. Does this change my action though? From what I read and see on the map, it doesn't, but I could be missing something...

"This'll be a bit slippery!" Sakuro said, making her mind up about what to do. A moment later, she made a pitching motion and simply hurled a spread of grease through the air. Rather than targeting the creature, though, she was actually aiming it at Baldek's armor, intending to make the exterior so slippery that the creature's attempts to keep holding onto him would be futile.
