A flash of memory washes over Reiko. The magic is different, but the end result is the same. His body doubles in size, along with his weapon and equipment. A sliver of memory, of the past drives its way into his mind, and the pain, for only a microsecond, is excruciating. He remembers straying into the college tower basement after curfew, breaking into the forbidden library rooms, and studying ancient books. The spells were full of anger, rage, hate, and for a moment, after Aya's spell, all he can think of is killing, rage, and bathing in the blood of everyone around him. The moment fades, however, and in his mind's eye is a swath of runes, the same language as the ones all over the sacrificial altar and the crypt. He can't understand them, but he suddely realizes.

These runes are part of the reason why he can't remember his past.

Reiko's eyes burn for a second after Aya casts her spell. The veins in his arms bulge, but he anger is quickly redirected at the beast that attacked Jun. He moves quickly, almost supernaturally, and two handed swings his katana in a brutal downward chop meant to split the undead in half.

You've come into the valley the hard way...through the mountains...and skirted the village. The first village you passed was a mining settlement, up in the mountains. Your quarry headed north of Lakeroot, the little village by the lake...so so did you.

You *just* stumbled across something remarkable, however, and it's given you pause.

Across the valley, on the mountainside, is an ancient burial ground...of a people of ancient times...and there's a big stone marker...that has, carved on its face...an ancient version of the holy symbol of Rauk!

Varuk ventured closer to the stone marker. It was a strange thing to see Rauk's presence among the valley of the soft folk. And yet, peaceful at the same time. It had been a long journey from the foothills and highlands that the Rauka'ateepa made their homes on. He moved closer to investigate. Surely, he could spare a few minutes for that.

I am an expert on the obscure and arcane, you know." Oh, he knew that, all right... Sakuro was far more intelligent than the other members of her family, and she'd put quite a few of those smarts to good use learning everything she could about, well, everything that was interesting. Mostly magic, but related things got in as well just so she could have a more complete view. Her interest frequently got to the point where the rest of her family gave her a wide berth in case something exploded... and they'd never let her live down just one teensy-tiny little accident.
