Some notes about the house rules:
1) Natural 1 on d20 is always a failure. I may ask for additional rolls or I may determine outcome straight away, based on various circumstances. This applies to all kind of rolls - combat, skill checks, saving throws...
2) Critical hits are automatically approved. No need for confirmation rolls.
3) I will be using some rules that some of you are familiar with, some are not. I will introduce them when the game demands to do so. As of now, you need to know that I'll be using Fate Points. For new players to my games, they are similar to Action Points and Hero Points, but they are cumulative. I will post the rules for Fate Points here and repost them later in the Campaign Info tab. Also, at some point I'll use Insanity Points. I will post rules about them when I decide to do so.
At character creation, a character gains a number of Fate Points equal to his Charisma bonus. Additionally, a character gains 1 (one) Fate Point at each character level. Also, a character may receive additional Fate Points based on GM’s fiat, when the character scores especially important critical hit, solves a key puzzle or something else entirely, based on GM’s judgment.
1 fp: add +2 to any d20 roll (up to 5 may be spent on any one roll)
1fp: gain two spell points; they must be spent in the same round.
1 fp: automatically stabilize
1 fp: gain full proficiency in any one language currently spoken
2 fp: maximize one damage die
3 fp: roll twice for hp when leveling, taking the best result
3 fp: gain knowledge of one 1st level spell
4 fp: get one bonus skill point
5 fp: re-roll any roll
5 fp: get one extra standard action
10 fp: force an NPC or other player to reroll
10 fp: make any skill class skill
20 fp: get a bonus feat
30 fp: increase an ability score
40fp: gain additional character trait, conditioned on GM's approval

Checking in.

Raven Snowborn |

Raven, do you have access to Might of the Magus by Kobold Press? There are feats there that may be very useful for your character. If you do not have it, I'll post some of those I think you may be interested in here.
I do not, but I'm going to check it and buy it. (I'm for supporting 3PP...)

If you plan to buy, than Complete Advanced Feats are perhaps better bang for the buck. Check it out, anyway.

Marcus of Torm |

Hey there.
@nightflier would you like any of us to already know each other, or should we just make our way to the inn?

![]() |

Anwyn also doesn't speak Common tongue. I now see that you've changed her languages as well. Please change them back to Midnight languages. You can keep Abyssal and Elven, since Elven is (in my games) same across all planes and worlds. Same goes for Dwarven tongue. You can leave the slot empty for Undercommon and learn it the next level. Or you can modify your background a little to reflect some time spent in the Underdark, perhaps. If so, you can keep it.

Marcus of Torm |

Done, and I've made a proper hero lab character sheet too.

Kitao, I'm away from my computer, so I can't use tags.
I didn't quite understood your post. "Big bearded man" is in fact a humanoid bear and only "small bearded man" in the room is Attikus. Proprietor of the inn, the dwarf Kaigan, is not there.
Did you intended to assume that Attikus is one of the staff?

Anwyn, what are your plans for Obsidian Blade? It had a role in the previous Midnight game, but here it's just a glass sword with no particular ties to the world. And it's completely unsuited for your style of combat, since it's not finessable. Also, I think it's magical properties should not come into play this early, since other PCs don't have magic items.
I can think of several solutions to this problem:
1) She could give it the innkeeper to store it (if she ever gets back to Midnight, the sword would find her there)
2) She could find someone to "reforge" the sword, perhaps creating two smaller blades out of it, which would suit her combat style. (And this could be a personal quest for her.)
3) She could sell it or exchange it for some other magical item.
Of course, I'm open to suggestions...

When I've had stuff like that happen in games before, I've gone with the explanation that the magic mcguffin's magic isn't in tune with the world's magic, and it needs time to attune itself, thus explaining why it slowly grows over time back into what it was.

Guys, what are your thoughts about my idea of allowing non-chosen players to enter the game and interact with you as long as you're in the Briarwood and not engaged in active quests?
Also, I plan on inviting some of our old comrades, such as High Duke and Doomed Hero to create characters such as those and just hang around the inn.
I'm gonna put this to a vote. Majority wins. I'm gonna vote only in the case of tie, since there are eight of you.

Anwyn Elghreah Larerthane |

Nightflier,
Anwyn is loath to give up the sword right now as it is her only link to her homeland. She does still believe it to be magical (since she lost her Innate magic trait she can no longer tell it is non-magical) and she believes the sword may have had something to do with her transport to the Realms.
Here is what happened to her after the end of the last game:
So, she sees the sword as the most likely way to return to her home. Having the sword reforged into a more useable form is an intriguing one, and I like mdt's idea as well. I think for right now she would want to learn more about the sword and what powers it has (had...)

I vote YES for this!

Doesn't bother me one way or the other, so does 'meh' count as an Aye or a Nay? ;)

I think its worth a try, although we'll have to see how fun it is for those playing the NPCs considering there'll be considerable downtime for them.

Marcus of Torm |

It'll be fun to see how the adventure hook gets introduced :) There's quite a lot of PCs and so far they have little reason to associate with each other.

Posting this in all my games.
I'll be travelling this week, Monday through Wednesday, and I likely won't be able to post as much as I usually do. I should be back to normal posting by the end of the week.

Marcus of Torm |

We'll have to see if it gets that far. Marcus won't stand for any lynching.

No worries. If needs be, I'll DM your PC. On another note, please post exclusively under your PC profile. That's so that I always know which PC is absent from the game in cases like these.

Marcus of Torm |

Nightflier, how obvious is the Paladin detect evil ability in your game? Marcus is very curious about the robed figure but doesn't wish to start a fight.

Marcus of Torm |

That seems particularly plausible in this case.

I'm gonna keep the discussion with Kaigan for a bit and you can pump him for info. But if you want to stay in Briarwood, you need to choose one of the places he mentioned.
You don't need to go that way if you don't want to. You may decide to go to Silverymoon or Waterdeep or wherever.
This game is pretty much sandboxy.

Heichi Kitao |

Thanks for the compliment of Kitao, and yes he will come looking as a D-bag, if you consider he is from a feudal-like japan country (Wa).
Were gaijin are the equals to Eta which is the equal to trash and only work as leather workers, mortuary and sewer cleaners amongst their jobs and are the lowest of the Celetial Order. So for Kitao is like living among uncivilized trash that he must show respect that normally he wouldn't even bother to notice your existance.
