Traits

Orphaned

You grew up separated from your birth parents, and had to learn to watch out for yourself.
Benefits: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Survival checks, and Survival is always a class skill for you.

Killer

You made your first kill at a very young age and found the task of war or murder to your liking. You either take particular pride in a well-placed blow, or find vile pleasure in twisting the blade to maximize your target's pain.
Benefit: You deal an amount of additional damage equal to your weapon's critical hit modifier when you score a successful critical hit with a weapon; this additional damage is added to the final total, and is not multiplied by the critical hit multiple itself. This extra damage is a trait bonus.

Resilient

Growing up in a poor neighborhood or in the unforgiving wilds often forced you to subsist on food and water from doubtful sources. You've built up your constitution as a result.
Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saves.

Background:

Faerin’s life has been a hard one. Orphaned at the age of 8 when her parents were brutally murdered in front of her eyes in an orc raid, she was saved by a Ranger by the name of Korren, part of a band patrolling the Silver marches before returning to Jalanthar. Raised among the Rangers as sort of a communal daughter, the young girl barely spoke for the first 4 years, only seeming to come to life when at the age of 13. Korren introduced her to Ranger training.

All the loss, suffering and hate the young girl has experienced found it’s outlet in the thrill of the hunt and the love of the wild, the girl taking to nature as if born to it. She showed no aptitude for the magic of some of her teachers, but an amazing capacity for bonding with and learning from the natural world.

In the worship of Mielikki, Faerin found some semblance of peace and calm, though her fury still presents itself in battle. In the last year she has taken to patrolling along the base of the Spine of the World, battling Orcs and other monsters who would endanger or threaten travelers, her solitary patrols taking her as far as Briarwood.

From time to time she has worked with others while on patrol, most notably an Inquisitix of Mielikki by the name of Kelagh. From time to time they have shared a meal or patrol in the wilds, the other woman seeming to know just when she needed to be alone with nature again. Of all the meaningful contact she has had in the last few years, that was the most enjoyable.

Personality:

Faerin’s personality can best be described as intense. She looks at most things, and people, with a predator’s focus, a fact that many people find more than a little unsettling. At times her need for action can make her irritable when forced to be inactive. At other times, her ability to remain preternaturally still can be disconcerting to others. Used to spending large stretches of time alone, Fearin is far from the most social of people, though she responds well to kindness and companionship, railing against anyone who would try to control or restrain her.

Notes:

Rugged Northerner
You live a hard life in a cold climate and gain some benefit from it.
Prerequisite: Con 13, Survival 1 rank.
Benefit: You treat extreme cold conditions as severe cold, and severe cold as cold weather conditions. You are not impacted at all by normal cold weather conditions. In addition, you do not become fatigued by frostbite or hypothermia.

Favored enemy: +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of the selected type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. He may make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures.
