Do you mind changing your character to arcane caster? You can keep the rolls. Of course, if you are to invested into this one, I don't mind you keeping it.

Dark Archive

Guys, I'm on a tablet now so I can't use codes. Therefore I'll post answers to rolls first thing tomorrow morning.

One Thing I can post here is for Anwyn - the horned skull is a holly symbol of Izrador.

Hey, don't be so defeatist. First, infernal healing is a magus/witch spell. So there's a chance to find a scroll somewhere that I can learn and use. Then you can be healed by normal healing when you're on positive hit points. I've also pumped up on use magical items so that I can use scrolls or wands. We can also bring you back to the village and see if someone can heal/repair you. And last, we have fate points that can be used for that.

So don't worry, we'll get you out of it quickly.

It's not just that. It's also the fact we are 1st level hitting CR 5 stuff, and I'm being penalized for the character concept. I wanted to play a wyrwood, which is a construct. I'm fine with not being able to heal because of being a construct... but that requires using the construct rules, which give an extra 10HP at 1st level to overcome that inability to heal.

Instead, I have to play a warforged. However, the warforged is being treated as a construct, and can't be healed. So I'm not getting the benefit of being a construct (the extra HP at 1st level to avoid being one-shotted), but I'm subject to all the down sides of being a construct (no ability to heal without make whole or repairs).

If the bad guys have wands or oils of make whole on them, then it's just contrived specifically to overcome those limitations, which is dumb in the first place. Why put the restrictions in and then negate them via adding loot to specificaly overcome them.

I'm fine with deadly fights, I'm fine with being penalized for my character concept, I'm fine with not being able to heal because I'm a construct, I'm even fine with the GM scaling the encounters to CR+5 (which the book says is suicidal).

I'm just not ok with all of those at the same time.

Dark Archive

Look, dude, I did not single you out for anything. I really like your concept, but I have 5 more characters to keep in mind, as well as tell a story I want to tell.

The encounter was not suicidal since not one of you really died. And if I counted you as full warforged, you'd have only 25% chance to ignore two critical hits scored on you. I declared you immune and decided to balance that by making your character virtually unkillable - but with some easily resolvable difficulties with healing. You still got a better deal than the rest. They are dead when they die. They can not be repaired and then healed.

Now, I don't want or need to explain myself. The goal here is to have fun. If you don't and you wish to leave the game, I respect that. If you wish to stay in the game, you may modify your existing character or have him die a true death and create a new one.

Either way is fine by me.

Uhm, you did crit me.

I was only hit once, you did a confirmation and a crit damage.

Or so you said earlier.

Constructs are not immune to crits.

Either that, or the guy teleported and full attacked, which you said he didn't do.

So either way, yeah... not feeling it.

I hope this can be resolved, I've been enjoying your writing Tik'Klik.

No. I didn't. I don't use confirmations. Those were two attacks with two knives. And I scored crits on both attacks.

Now, will you leave the game, stay or stay but create another character?

Nope, I'm done. Thanks though.

I don't mind tough fights, but again, CR 5 or CR 6 on 6 level 1 PCs is a picture of what is to come, and I just don't feel we mesh very well.

I make my own fights tough, but usually by adding HP, not by sending out a CR6 and giving the creatures abilities far in advance of the PCs. People have been talking about you liking to kill PCs, I just put it down to jokes, but it's apparently not. I've played with GMs who liked to keep score of their body counts, and it's not fun. I put a lot of thought into my PCs, and tossing them out as cannon fodder against overwhelming overpowered NPCs is just a bit much. By your own account, the teleporting goblin was designed to kill someone every round. Teleport, Vanish, and two sneak attacks per round.

If a PC asked to have a dual wielding goblin who can vanish and teleport and full attack in the same round, at level 1 or even 2, I have a sneaky suspicion you would call it overpowered. I certainly would. Putting that in with the full knowledge that it will kill something every round is going for PK, and I don't like GMs that pride themselves on body bag counts.

While I would agree with MDT about the lethality of this encounter, I now have a sneaking suspicion HOW and WHY they are overpowered...looks like these guys are from Anwyn's home world...where evil holds complete sway .

mdt I understand the pain of having PC immobilized in your case in the 2nd encounter can be very painful. I had one character that was killed of in the first encounter of another nightflier's adventures. Primary reason I built a very poor melee fighter type character. I generally not good at building melee characters. When I started to take part in nightflier's adventures I knew the encounters would be deadly as that is the nature of the Midnight setting. I played Midnight by various GMs, and only 1 of my characters survived to get 2 levels up, rest ended up rather dead quickly.

Now I love building characters, spend hours creating backgrounds and doing the mechanics. So yes it is rather sad when your PC dies quickly, but not the end of the world. I just end up creating a new character, with new background again, spend plenty hours building character again, only knowing I probably end up doing it again rather soon.

When nightflier makes adventures I know they going to be very challenging, yet very rewarding in terms of character development. Those new to nightflier's adventures, I believe really don't realize how challenging the encounters can be when they apply to take part.

I know nightflier is not making encounters more difficult to get up the body count for his personal fun. He is more interested in heroic aspect of the adventure, surviving extreme odds to make a difference.

Perhaps nightflier need to put up a disclaimer on his adventure recruitment threads when he begins recruiting to warn that PC kills is a real possibility, especially on not well built characters, particular with a major flaw of reduce healing capabilities. Players that take characters with major flaws must really understand what these flaws really means, especially in greater challenging encounters (typical of nightflier). I can say I not shy to build characters with major flaws in nightflier's adventures, I accept I must do actions that reduces exposure to the flaws as best as I can.

Do you mind changing your character to arcane caster? You can keep the rolls. Of course, if you are to invested into this one, I don't mind you keeping it.

As you wanted character to be ready by today to not slow down the adventure I rather keep the shapeshifter druid as I spent plenty time already putting a concept together, creating some background, and begun doing the mechanics by hand (takes a while to do).

If I have to create arcane caster character I will need a week to do as I need to do some reading on the various arcane classes and archetypes available. Come up with background, and do the mechanics.

It all really depends on how long you want to pause the adventure for new characters to be created.

I apologize Nightflier but, this moving and my internet is not very good, so i might have to bow out if this continues.

I would be sorry to see you go. Let's wait for a while before you make a final decision.

Oh I see you busy recruiting to replace the disabled warforge character.

I going to continue making the skinwalker mooncaller druid. I see from recruitment thread, you asking for no extras companions. Would you allow this change (taken from storm druid), to have spontaneous summoning to use domain spells instead of summon nature's ally. It will fit my character better, not having animal companion in the first place. I think Pazio should make the change to the spontaneous spell feature entry: If druid uses domains instead of animal companions, the spontaneous spells can be the domain spells instead of summon nature's ally spells, but once the choice is made it can't be changed.

Arcane user without companions or bonded intelligent weapon, would be the arcanists, sorcerers, few wizard archetypes (not normal wizard class).

I'd be quite interested to see what a blaster arcanist could do :) Anyway let's see what characters get proposed.

@nightflier, I going to make her have zero wealth considering she is a captive of the goblins and ogre, so nothing for equipment, other than her clothes she is wearing.

Dark Archive

No need. We'll make her recently captured. I will introduce your character tomorrow.

Done

I not going to pick any spells for her, seeing she is captured, and would need proper environment to meditate. It would make sense for the remainder of the day she has no spell ability.

Just got 1 more feat to choose from over 1300 feats. I so hate choosing feats. So many to check which are valid to take...

Male Moon Elf Wizard 1

History and basic description done.

I am ready for Monday.

I'm a little more busy than I anticipated (this weekend was especially bad), so, since an arcane caster and a divine caster both applied, I won't make the cleric I'd had in mind. Have fun all!

Done

@nightflier. Character is completed. I used PCGen to check for available feats, even though Blood of Moon supplement is not yet in database for the Skinwalkers.

Dark Archive

You're on, guys.

Dark Archive

Guys, I have to go on a ten-day business trip. I'll not be able to post during that time.

Got it, I'm still here, unconscious but here.

Male Moon Elf Wizard 1

Still lurking as well. Slightly more conscious.

Dark Archive

Heads up, guys. I'm back from my trip. Will post tomorrow.

You should be good within a few hours now. We have healing now :)

I be away for 3 days. I believe I should have 3G connection where I going, but might not be able to post if connection is bad due to storms in the area.

Done

I have received message from nightflier. He currently has no internet to be able to post.

Female Human Ranger (Spell-less)

Thanks for the update.

Male Moon Elf Wizard 1

Good to know. Also, one of my children has pneumonia... I apologize for my absence, but it was needed... in a more important realm.

Female Human Ranger (Spell-less)

Absolutely, hope they're getting better.

Dark Archive

Hi, guys. Posting this from work. Things are being hectic right now and my service provider is convinced that I'm a pirate, so they disconnected me. It seems that I was flagged when Owen Stephens sent me a copy of one of his products for a review. I've given the copies of emails between me and Owen to my provider, but they are slow to act.

Posting from work again.

It seems that the problem arose when I uploaded the file to my Dropbox account, so that I could download it to my tablet for reading instead of connecting the table to PC via cable.

Totally crazy where you live. Need a private server somewhere for uploading your work items to for easier transfer between your devices.

Dark Archive

As of yesterday, my internet is back - and I got an apology from my ISP because they made a mistake in freezing my account. I guess it's something, although it doesn't do much for my frustration levels.

Anyway, we're nearing Christmas. Do you guys want to continue with the game or wait until the holidays are over?

Well I'm having a (boring) family Christmas so I'll have internet and be able to post.

Done

I fine, either taking a break or continuing over this period.

I am available to post over the holidays if necessary.

Female Human Ranger (Spell-less)

I am as well.

Yeah, it is crazy. I'm afraid that the country hasn't transitioned yet to fully capitalist and democratic society, so there's a lot of corruption and not enough rules to regulate things like internet, or to protect customers from bad service.

@all

Great, then. New post in the game thread tomorrow. :)

Dark Archive

New post is up. Just so we're clear - the house is completely empty. There's no furniture and there's no food. There are fireplaces, but no wood. Inside the house is quite cold, especially on higher floors.
