these aren't the droids you're looking for.

these arent the pants your looking for

Lorn quickly bows his frame as low as his ample stomach allows before rising quickly. His face is red as he looks at Jasmine. You do me too much of a kindness mi'lady but I am grateful. Of course a woman of your standing would want to ensure a safe journey. I wouldn't call any of those men scoundrels but if I had to pick one man to take you, it would be Marlo Benthroy. A man more honest you aren't likely to meet I can tell you.

Lorn bows clumsily again. If you have need of anything else while here in town, you just ask old Lorn.

Back at camp.

The day is wearing on and the heat is slowly subsiding as you all patiently await the return of your companions. Serviana sits quietly, her eyes watching you all going about your tasks. Ryland hasn't returned yet from his foraging and Pace sits quietly lost in thought.

You're all suddenly aware of the sound of mounted riders approaching you from the direction of Elmora. At first you can't make out who they might be but soon it becomes only too apparent as the yellow sunbursts come into view on their pristine white tabards.

As one they rein in before you and one of the Children addresses you. Why are you travelers camping outside of a city like common bandits? Have you some fear of the law you may find in the city? The Whitecloaks sit with the arrogant posture so common to their order yet none seem overtly hostile. Yet. So far, none of them seem to have noticed Serviana's bindings.

Female Domani Wilder 1/Initiate 4/Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah 6 Defense 18 (Touch 18, Flat Footed 10) HP 66 / SV Fort +9, Ref +7, Will +16 / Perception +17

Jasmines smiles again at Lorn and says Thank you Lorn. She adds a gold crown to the table for the meal and for his information. To Jasper and Jed she says As our journey is somewhat of a pressing matter we should be off to see Master Benthroy. With that she inclines her head to Lorn and heads out to the docks.

Alathea's stomach twists into a knot at the sight of the approaching Whitecloaks. Do these ruffians have nothing better to do than to harass travelers? But if they find out who we are...

Attempting to head off trouble before it starts, Alathea walks out of the camp to meet with the approaching riders. Raising a hand in greeting, she calls out, "Well met, soldiers! We have no fear of the law or the Light. But these are troubled times, yes? We merely wish to be cautious...we are somewhat of a large group, and in my experience, large groups draw suspicion when they enter towns such as yours. To cause as little of a disturbance as we can, we have thought to approach slowly, yes?" She smiles at the Whitecloaks, hoping that they find her manner disarming. "You see, we wish to book passage on a riverboat, and if we can do so without disturbing your town, it will be good for all of us, yes?"

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

Noting the white cloaks approach, Litheene channels a small circle of silence around Serviana, and moves forward in the wagon, to conceal Serviana behind her, while acting like she moved to better see the white cloaks.

Litheene acts the naive girl, admiring the soldiers in their armor for a second. Yes, we wanted to avoid troubled, you see, ruffians are about, and they might attack us. A group traveling with young women seems like easy prey to some. With your name and appearance, I'm certain no trouble can come to you, but we aren't fitted for fighting people. Litheene waves around her plain, unarmored and sword-less dress.

Litheene maintains her hold on the power in the meanwhile, preparing a ward against people as ready action.

How many are they?

Male Saldean Armsman 1/ Wilder 5

If there is enough time to get a couple of weaves off before they arrive. I don't know the levels I want to use because I don't have the book at work, but I will specify later.
Pace also stands quickly, seizing Saidin as he does so. Weaves of Air reach out and surround Serviana, locking her in place. He ties this weave off and immediately forms another weave that creates a wall between Serviana and the direction of the oncoming riders. The weave folds light around the woman so that she can't be seen by the riders, but is still visible to Litheene.

Once the riders approach Pace takes a step forward but is careful to keep his hands away from the hilt of his sword.

Fia gives a sardonic smirk at Lithene's mention of "being unfitted for fighting people." perhaps I should look meek as a hare? Or perhaps she believes these men will think my spears are mere wood for the fire. She chortles to herself and stands watching.

Torn between amusement at Lithene's statement and annoyance at the arrogance displayed by the riders, she moves to stand at the edge of camp, a spear's throw from the leader and ready to come to Alethea's aid if needed. Arms crossed beneath her chest, she stares intently at the men. Prickly little things...I would have given him a dancing lesson had Alathea not beaten me to them. Her grin widens at the thought, her teeth gleaming.

If we saw them approaching, Fia would have embraced the source prior to their arrival.

There are 6 Whitecloaks. Making a few rolls to determine something and based on that, I'll have an update posted shortly.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Lorn stutters at the sight of gold as Jasmine and company head out of the Fish. With Lorn's clear directions (and Jasmine's crazy high Diplomacy check) it's easy enough to find the right boat docked down at the river's edge. Sitting with his legs dangling over the side is a true picture of water dwelling man. Skin baked bronze by the sun with day old stubble gripping his chin, Marlo Benthroy is every bit the image of a sailor. Smoking a pipe and sitting quietly he watches as you approach, the gentle rock of his boat raising and lowering him in the late day air. Help you folks?

Back at camp.

Nerves are high as Alathea and Litheene attempt to placate the curious Whitecloaks. The Power flows in everyone but Serviana and there is a tense hush amongst the rest of the group. While arrogance and suspicion oozed from the Whitecloaks, it appeared that Alathea's words were going over well enough with the Children's leader.

As Pace's veil slipped into place, one Whitecloak's head whipped to where Serviana was sitting moments before. Eyes flying to Litheene and Alathea, his sword scrapes into his scabbard. Tar Valon witches!

Going on Initiative at this point. There is a Surprise round, all of the PCs and the 1 whitecloak will get 1 standard action, after which we will go to Round 1. Everyone is assumed to be embracing the Source, Pace has surrounded Serviana in Air and tied it off so she's essentially "frozen" for the combat.

Notes/Clarifications:
- The previously discussed plan is that one of the 3 Aes Sedai is always maintaining a Shield on Serviana regardless of the forkroot. Litheene/Alathea, which of you is holding that Shield right now as it obviously impacts what you may or may not be doing during combat?
- Litheene you stated that your Ready Action was to use Ward Against People. That weave is a Full Round action to cast and thus is not eligble to be used as part of a Readied Action. So please just take your surprise round action as normal instead.
- Everyone please see discussion thread on Concentrating on a Weave as I am updating/clarifying the rules.
- Ryland you are not at camp, you are out scouting around for forkroot. I will be rolling random chances on whether you return at some point during the combat. If you do, I will add you to the Init order and we'll go from there but for now you're not present.

Init
Pace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Litheene: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Alathea: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Fiallain: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Whitecloaks: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Also, what kind of dose of forkroot was Serviana given at the beginning of the day? Lol and try not to be too munchkiny and say "5 doses" simply because you're about to enter combat. ;-)

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

I'm holding Serviana's shield (Alathea got locked the previous battle :)). Jonasty - can you give us a map?

hello there. Names Jasper. We were wondering if we could book passage on your fine vessel and travel upriver. jasper says with a smile on his face.

Female Domani Wilder 1/Initiate 4/Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah 6 Defense 18 (Touch 18, Flat Footed 10) HP 66 / SV Fort +9, Ref +7, Will +16 / Perception +17

Excuse my companion, we are actually looking for a boat downriver...towards Ebou Dar. We know it cannot get all the way there but we do not wish to travel towards Tanchico. Master Lorn at the inn said you were the best and most respectable sailor in the area. I know it is not a direction craft typically travel in but we will make sure you are suitably compensated. Would that be acceptable my good man? Jasmine smiles again at the man, hoping that her luck holds with the fine people of this town. Diplomacy 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

With her back to her companions and captive, Alathea is unaware of Serviana's "disappearance". At the cry of "Tar Valon Witches!", she freezes, then follows the eyes of the offending Whitecloak. Seeing Serviana's disappearance for herself, she breathes a curse. She can't see the weaves, but she's certain that Serviana is still there...she tied the knots on her wrists herself! Fool man! I had the situation in hand, then he gives us away!

Biting back any further angry words, Alathea turns back to the Whitecloaks and raises her hands placatingly. Feigning confusion, she calls out, "Here now! That is a dangerous accusation you make! You will find no Aes Sedai here!" She sighs. It is true...Neither Litheene nor I have been properly raised, and that woman...she cannot claim the title anymore!

Her words are brave, but Alathea fears that the situation is beyond the point that words can repair. Resigning herself to the inevitable, she reaches for the True Source...Composure check to pass her block, DC 15 needed: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 got it!...and finds it. With the One Power flowing through her, she stands up straighter and faces the Whitecloaks with more confidence.

Alathea I'm a bit confused. I was under the assumption that everyone was holding the Source. If you weren't, that's fine. However embracing is a Full Round action so you wouldn't be able to accomplish this during the Surprise round. Also, if you're not embraced, then that by default means Litheene is maintaining Serviana's Shield. I'm fine with that, just making sure we're on the same page.

That sounds about right to me. Since Litheene said she was holding Serviana's shield, I figured that Alathea was taking a break. Since she was hoping to talk her way out of the encounter with the Whitecloaks, she was doing all she could to not seem suspicious...like holding the Source unnecessarily. I'm also fine with her embracing the Source next round.

I'm sorry. I was trying to indicate that he would weave the screen if the Whitecloaks were not in sight yet, but I see that I wasn't clear.

Pace takes a deep breath as the Whitecloak cries out. Bloody idiot! And Jasper's not around to blame this one on, either. He smiles grimly to himself as he pulls his sword and moves closer to the Whitecloaks, hopefully blocking any chance of a charge at the women behind him.

Pace I figured that was the intent behind your post. But given the posting order and the fact that you wouldn't know they were there until you could both see each other is why I ran with it the way I did. Plus as a DM, it's just fun to make the players pay for the actions in the most painful way possible. As Jasper well knows. ;-)

I'll have an update posted soon-ish. Of course everyone talking about being sick, I now have a head cold. That plus work is making things sluggish for me.

At the docks.
Marlo gives you all a look before taking another puff on his pipe. Upriver towards Ebou Dar? Lorn sent you over eh? Well I'm fair enough with those who treat me the same. But I have no plans on heading upriver currently. Not much trade thataways. Times being what they are, I gotta make sure I'm around where the work is. I imagine you would compensate me best you can but that doesn't stack up much against what I'd get for a load of cargo down to Tanchico I reckon.

Alathea: hp 21/30, defense 14, all weaves available

Alathea sees the Whitecloak draw his sword back and twists out of the way, but she's too slow: the man's sword sinks deep into her shoulder. Wincing against the pain, she steps back, attempting to get away from the hateful man. As she embraces the Source, she calls out to her companions, "Bind them!" As if we have not already drawn too much attention...

Alathea will embrace the Source for her first round action while taking a 5 foot step back from the Whitecloak.

Jasmine looks at the man a moment before saying How much would a trip bring you Master Marlo? I am not sure if you know this but Tanchico is not a good place to be going right now. There was a fairly substantial fire in the town and from what I understand there were some women channeling large amounts of the one power. Either way I am not sure how good trade would be at the present time. She let's that sink in for a moment. I'm getting pretty good at standing the truth on it's head like an Aes Sedai. ah yes, you are right, i was thinking about my campaign...

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

I'll prefer to post my action based on a map, considering area of effect options :)
I'm currently missing one of my level 3 slots, assumed to have been cast with the angreal on Serviana for a shield. Have the angreal on me as I was chanelling the shield, and missing one of my level 0 slots on a tied off circle of silence around Serviana. Serviana took 2 doses of fork root today, as we are close to a city.

Map
Serviana and Litheene are on the wagon (in brown). Also to note, I'm not gonna go through the hassle of trying to indicate it on the map but all of the Whitecloaks are mounted.

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

Litheene concentrates to weave while holding Serviana's shield. Concentration for multiweave: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 against DC of 15

Then she channels air to try and neutralize the white cloaks quickly before they can harm anyone.
Harden air level 5 using level 3 slot, centered on P3 (should effect all the white cloaks except W2). The DC is 19. I DO NOT make them suffocate, but just freeze them in place, with their heads free.

Litheene them yells for her companions: Circle of silence the whole area! We don't want attention.

Whitecloak saves:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Gonna give Pace a little while longer to post a Round 1 action and then I'll update.

Male Saldean Armsman 1/ Wilder 5

Pace moves up to the Whitecloak attacking Alathea and attempts to smack him on the head with the flat of his sword blade.

For the surprise round I had wanted to move up between the WC's and Alathea, like in R7. If that is taken into account, then I would have flank the WC with Alathea before she steps back (since I have initiative over her).
ATTACK Warder's Sword: 1d20 + 7 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 4 + 2 = 10(nonlethal + Flank) -2 if no flank.
DAMAGE: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Doesn't matter anyway with that roll :-)

The Whitecloaks not stuck in Litheene's Harden Air move to the attack, striking out at the women in the camp.

W2 attack on Alathea: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
W1 attack on Litheene: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
W4 attack on Fiallain: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21, Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Crit confirm on Litheen: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11, Bonus Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Also, Fiallain you only posted your Surprise Round action. If you want to post a Round 1 action you may although I'm not gonna retroact the Whitecloaks post so you will be in melee for your Round 1 action.

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

Concentration to avoid losing Serviana's shield (the harden air tied as move action): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 against DC of 18

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

Litheene backs away as the blade cuts at her leg, leaving a red line on her blouse, but manages to keep Serviana's shield up. Move back to Q13

She draws more of the power, to lock the offending whitecloak in a master ward, afraid he might interrupt her shield.
Concentration for multiweave: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21 against DC of 15
Overchannel 1 level: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20 against DC of 20
Master ward level 4 using level 2 slot, exactly on W1

Round 1:

Fiallain takes a step back from the man attacking her. Concentrating, she draws on the power. "Do not look towards me!" She calls to her companions. A split second later, the clearing erupts in sudden blinding light as a white hot sphere blossoms in her palm.

Action is to take a 5 ft step backwards so that her companions are mostly facing away from the light while the whitecloaks face her. She casts 'light' as a third level weave, hoping to blind the whitecloaks and their horses, hopefully making it difficult for them to control the animals and fight effectively. Reflex saves dc 16

Alathea backs away from the Whitecloak's attack and draws upon the One Power. We must finish this quickly! Weaving ropes of Air about the attacking Whitecloak's feet, she attempts to bind him in place.

For her round 2 action, Alathea will take a 5-foot step to square S10 and weave a level three Harden Air weave (cast at level 2 due to possessing all the required affinities) in an attempt to immobilize the Whitecloak attacking her. She'll attempt to wrap up his legs so that he can't move around, but leave his upper body free and allow him to breathe. He'll need to make a Reflex save vs. DC 17 to escape from the weave.

With your mod it probably won't matter but Litheene in your original post, you never said you were tying off the Harden Air weave so I'm going to need you to roll a Concentration check to maintain that weave as well. I'm positive you intended to do it but if it's not posted it didn't happen.

Litheene, also you are sitting on the wagon right now. This doesn't prevent you from moving to Q13 as you posted but it means you can't simply 5-foot step to get there. Moving to Q13 (or anywhere for that matter since you're sitting up in a wagon) will provoke an AoO. Feel free to adjust your Round 2 post accordingly.

Ryland's rolls:
1d100 ⇒ 52
1d100 ⇒ 76

Still off looking for roots.

Wait for Pace and Fiallain to post Round 2 actions then I'll update the Whitecloaks round 2 and give an overall status update.

Fia will draw her main spear and attack whichever whitecloak is closest with a preference for those not affected by blindness.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 241d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Female Human Seanchan Wilder 2 / Initiate 3 / Aes Sedai 6

If so, I'm not moving back, but using my move action to tie off the previously cast harden air. Then I cast defensively: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30 against dc of 19

Sounds good although you still need to roll the Concentration check to maintain the Harden Air as you were attacked while holding it.
