In other lyrical waxing that doesn't involve literal wax... has anyone else noticed the complete dearth of PbPs starting up for Hell's Rebels?
Usually when a new AP launches there's at least a couple to a half dozen PbPs open up for it... but it's almost as like there's nothing for Hell's Rebels at all.

So, I'm gone for a day and you guys wax lyrical... :-P
Well, that'll teach you to be gone for a day. ;P

That is odd. There are usually recruitment threads up for an AP as soon as the Player's Guide goes live, and Hell's Rebels has been even more hotly anticipated than your average GenCon AP. Perhaps the usual suspects/frequent DMs have full dance cards and can't fit in another campaign? PFS just started up another PbP Game Day, I believe, which might be competing for GM attention. Or maybe the early advent of RPG Superstar is stealing Hell's Rebels' thunder?
I got my copy a few weeks ago but haven't taken much of a look at it yet. It looks like it may be the kind of campaign I'd like to play in, so I hesitate to spoil myself.

RPG Superstar is probably it now that you mention it - though that'll probably peter out now that the open voting period is over.
I've gotten and read through the first adventure... and am sorely tempted to take another stab at DMing an AP again.
From the read-over it's got a nice sense of 'space' to let the party get on and do what they like, while still providing some degree of cohesiveness.

You're running two games now, right? How are they going?
They're plodding along with a steady-ish pace without being either fast or slow. Ones a homebrew Iron Kingdoms game which is really only just getting started and the other is a pastiche Pirates game to let me use anything and everything I've received from Kickstarters and what not.

Indeed happy tri-versary (technically the leather anniversary if we follow traditional wedding norms) to us all. It's been a bumpy but most enjoyable ride through Joana's big ol' Riddleportian sandbox.
If I was more organised I would've organised a wee something or other to celebrate the occasion... but I'll have to keep that for a bit later then :)

Hey, there you go, Mark: first one I've seen.

Yeuch. There's a spell called monkey fish? A sorcerer must have had the naming rights for that one. :P
Spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions.
Unfortunately, this means that all of the spells you're looking for are unavailable as potions.
EDIT: Hmm, animal aspect and chameleon stride are range: Personal, too. They're pretty chary about giving out Stealth bonuses. Elixir of hiding is a better bonus but far more expensive. Muffle sound would work but is a 2nd-level spell. One might posit a muffle sound, lesser that worked on only a single target and was 1st-level.
For heightened awareness, keen senses would give you the Perception bonus but not the bonus to Knowledge checks.
Touch of the sea gives you a better Swim speed than monkey fish but no Climb speed. And there's an elixir of swimming but not one of climbing.

Aka the "Fighters Can't Get True Strike" rule. ;)
Back when it was implemented, there was a lot more niche protection in the game than there is now. If they were writing the CRB today, I doubt they'd go to so much trouble to make sure only rangers can be ranger-y and only druids can be druid-y. They'd probably still find a way to prevent fighters from getting true strike, though.

Wow. It's been thirty years since I've had 'morning after' regret.
hastening to leave.
cautioning to take none of it with him.

Provisos and notes and such:
Myself and family will be travelling off to London for both the Rugby World Cup, and taking my mum back to the UK for the first time since she emigrated about 50 years ago. Will be fun... not so much the transit (kids plus planes = tired parents) but once we get there much fun and frivolity should ensue.
We have wifi at the accommodations I'm going to, but I can't promise that I'll be around often enough to get frequent posts in, nor verbose ones if the situation calls for it. If I can lean upon DM generosity of spirit as needed then that would be appreciated.
I'll be back in KL and ready for resumption of general service on the 9th-10th ish of October.
Where I can I'll try and give cliff notes for what Phil's up to, and then he can simmer away in the background and ferment... or foment... either one ;)

Soooooo...
I want to say hello again. After surviving the first 2 years of medical school and passing STEP1, I can say that I have navigated my medical school life passed the most...interesting challenges, such that I can come back and join in the fun again.
I popped back on the boards a few days ago and Joana was kind enough to invite me back.
I have some reading and catching up to do, but I look forward to getting back into the swing of things!
Additionally, while I cannot give medical advice, I can give both information on medical topics, digested and re-explained when necessary and provide patient information when requested. If you want to ask something, just private message me.
Cheers!

What's up, Zeta! Long time no see, bud. Good to have you back around.
And pay no mind to Braddon, he makes everything sound so terrible with the whole "few thousand posts" bit. ;)
Hey, I got worse news for you. We're are all the way up to level 2!!! You're gonna need at the very least a week or two to update. All I can say is sorry, dude, but thems are the breaks. ;)

Rolls to learn/copy the following spells from Samaritha:
expeditious retreat Spellcraft v DC16: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 - nope!
magic missile Spellcraft v DC16: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 - yep
reduce person Spellcraft v DC16: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 - yep
shield Spellcraft v DC16: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 - yep
Does the Cypherlodge sell scrolls...I saw that they sell potions.
Gristav, our characters need to discuss spell sharing at some point in the future.
Gristav |
Yes. Gris had hoped to draw Sam into a study group, but the idea was not deliberately gender-gated.
Not deliberately. :)
Can we Aid Another on the SC checks? That supports a narrative of cooperation.
And let's not forget Snake, he's got a dog in this race. Or rather, a ferret.
"Come back with that scroll!"
Joana |
Does the Cypherlodge sell scrolls...I saw that they sell potions.
Yes, they do.
I generally do allow Aid Another checks on Spellcraft, particularly from the wizard whose spellbook you're copying.
And while a witch's familiar can learn a spell from a scroll or spellbook (at the cost of the scroll or spellbook page), there's not really a good way for a wizard to learn a spell from a witch's familiar.
Gristav |
I wouldn't want to deny Javell the boon of such access to the lists, but I acknowledge it might be hard to justify in-character. Perhaps Gris knows a bit more about witchery, given his background?
Javell DeLeon |
Gristav...I am not certain that Snake wants us learning spells from him. You know that his ferret is his spellbook right? So for us to open up his ferret and study the spells might be a bit...messy.
:p
The first line would be accurate. And the last bit is quite funny. :)
Snake has zero interest in "feeding" Lucky a scroll. Especially considering he's not even sure how/why he is what he is. (By the way, that just trips me out. You have to "feed" it to him? That's pretty wild.) :)
The thought never even crossed my mind(nor would it have ever seeing how I knew nothing about it until now) about gaining extra spells outside of leveling up.
I know the absolute least about arcane because I rarely run them. Matter of fact, Snake's the only one. They're just not my thing. But I like Snake.
Phillip Hargreaves |
Joana - I'm thinking that it'd be easiest and best to have Phil 'off-screen' for the duration of the trip rather than me try and piece meal him in. Travel with both parents and children is tiring and full (though unrestrainedly awesome as well).
Off to our first (of 2) rugby games tomorrow as well - France vs Romania at the London Olympic Stadium. Should be fun :)
Braddon Hurst |
Hi there.
Going to a con this weekend and continuing on holidays after.
Posting will be erratic for the next two weeks.
After three 1's being rolled for Braddon, just assume that he'll probably continue to fail at whatever task he's assigned.
:-D

What do we know of the exits from that room? Is there a third story? Windows? Did we even approach from a direction to have observed such?
INT roll to recall?
INT+3: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
If they're trapped, continue to prattle placatively from atop my moral and tactical high horse, "Hopefully the door gives you comfort sufficient to reason..." yada yada.
If they've windows, remembered above, Gristav rushes from the room ("Excuse me- my turn?", he jokes to Snake) and down the stairs past the simian, at whatever speed is still safe. He's bound for the back door, where he plans to rush past the victim and around the house anticlockwise, watching for windows, which will soon wear winter, as a warning...
Joana |
The room they're in is on a side of the house Gristav hasn't observed. The party has only been at the front door and the back door, as the alleys between the buildings in this block are very narrow and mostly blocked by obstacles and debris. (Remember, the guy who said his purse was stolen ran around the front and counted doors to get to the right house at the front of the block rather than try to get through the alley.)
However, while Braddon was attacking through the door, he got a brief glimpse of the room before the door was shut. If Gristav asks him, he'll be able to verify that he did see a window in the room. A double move will get you to the foot of the staircase.
If you have time to narrate it, go ahead; otherwise, I'll post Gristav's action when I update the thread later today.
