Oh god... You're starting to fight before I have even picked the players? I'm pretty sure this is some kind of record I'm making here.

Hey, this may have been asked so I apologize in advance, but are you open to psionics? I'd like to play either a Soulknife or a Psion but I want to know if I should bother reading the other posts to fit into the scheme of things or if I should just keep looking for a game to shoot my crystals in.

Sorry, I'm not at all familiar with psionics, so I'll have to say no.

Sovereign Court

Sounds interesting.

I fancy playing a reckless, my-life-aint-worth-a-damn-so-what-the-hell but basically well-meaning character in a dirty dozen kind of position.

Y'know: "I didn't know he was a commander did I, but I'll be damned if he starts hitting the whores in my favourite bar. Why, I barely clipped him anyway. Yeah, I'll do it, why not? Better than swinging because some... okay, okay. I'll hold my tongue."

Probably an alchemist, or maybe a gunslinger, or magus... I'll get cooking.

I'd like to apply for this game. Character will need some tweaking as original stats were rolled for another game, and lvl will need to be dropped by one, with some minor tweaks to the background. Will have profile updated tonight.

No worries, I wish fun and good rolls to all :)

Back again, posting in the character I came up with. Using "woodland skirmisher" for his stat block, but the actual original archetype was the "Nirmathi Irregular," and I'm carrying that through into the concept. He's basically a woodsman guerrilla warrior type, who has some connections with the Molthuni army already, and has knowledge of the Nirmathi forces, even using the same techniques.

Appearance:

Aldath is a relatively short man, standing a little over five-and-a-half feet tall. His build is lean, with corded muscle, and he moves very gracefully. He is usually dressed in simple clothing with earthen tones--browns, muted greens, with the occasional black thrown in. His most distinctive piece of clothing is his cloak, which looks to be a patchwork of brown, green, and gray cloth. Aldath's eyes are a murky brown, and his hair is also a dark brown color; he usually wears it long and free, and almost always has some facial hair, usually an untamed beard and whiskers.

Personality:

A gruff, unsociable man, Aldath is more at home in the woods than he is with people. Sure of himself and his skills, Aldath can easily come across as arrogant and cold, but in reality, he is neither. A loner by nature, Aldath can also be a loyal companion.

Army Connections:

For some time, Aldath has had connections with the Molthuni military. Serving as a lone skirmisher across the border, living off the forests, Aldath is something of an expert on Nirmathas, and uses many of the same practices as their "irregulars."

Gorvy is the kind of name-takin', no-s&*#-takin' rabble rouser and drinker who has been kicked out of every bar and military unit he could find.

He grew up in Alkenstar and his quick hands, and his easy charm, got him into the militia. Gorvy enjoyed guns, fiddling with blackpowder, constantly repairing and tinkering with the weapons, and enjoyed the barrack-room banter. He just couldn't stand his commanding officer... Since then Gorvy has seen the world, or at least the bits of it that are made up of port towns and drinking dens.

Finally, he started to realise that he was getting sick of taking fast ships out of trouble and headed inland. He ended up getting in the same kind of trouble as always but without a way out. Damn fool nearly got himself strung up.

But now he has a way out: go for a run through the woods with this motley band. Maybe this time his luck will change and he'll find some decent pals, or some place he likes, or a fine woman to keep his head straight.
Or maybe he'll start to realise that he's his own worst enemy.
Or maybe he'll end up dead.
Don't matter much either way, won't nobody mind much and those that might are oceans away.

"I've always liked forests, they're so... so full of life. And so lacking in gallows. Gentlemen, I accept your offer and will gladly take on this dangerous mission for the beloved people of... of, um, of Molthune! Yep, that's the one."

Ok... I've tweaked the character and the background for this campaign.... sounds like fun... thanks for the consideration...

Ka'ta's Background finished!

About Ka'ta:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

1) Ka’ta is a cool customer. She doesn’t talk a whole lot, but when she does, she tries to say profound things. Its not always profound. Because she’s close-lipped she can sometimes come off as standoffish. Perhaps this comes from her years as a slave where it was better to be seen and not heard.

2) Smallish, and dark-skinned, Ka’ta is average looking, with wide, pleasant enough features and dark black eyes. Her hair is tied back into braids. Her favorite color to wear, when she can get it, is blue.

3) Working all her life in Braganza, Ka’ta had been a slave all her life, working off her ‘debts’ towards freedom. Though she technically is no longer a slave, she is not yet a citizen. That is why she has joined the Imperial Army in order to earn it and further her station in life.

4) Because she worked and lived in Braganza, Ka’ta is not what you’d call a typical druid. She has little connection with nature other than knowing it is there and having a sort of interest in it. Instead, she has focused her magic on the weather and other more urban-oriented aspects of the wild world.

5) Ka’ta is purely neutral. She goes where the winds day her, a true optimist. Anything is better than being a slave or servant, and she’ll do what it takes. She would rather not hurt people, but she will. And she’d rather follow the laws of society (it’s easier in the long run) but she’ll break them if it’s necessary to accomplish her goals.

Ka'ta's Goals:
Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

1) Ka’ta wants her freedom and citizenship. Really, she’d like to eventually have her own shop of some kind (maybe cooking?) but at this point it’s just a faraway pipe dream.

2) I’d like to start piling on some interesting skills and professions for Ka’ta so I can come up with a cool shop/business idea for her at the end of the campaign that’s uniquely flavored by things that happened in the campaign.

Ka'ta's Secrets:
Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character.

1) Ka’ta has stolen a fair amount of coin from various people along the years in Braganza. She doesn’t particularly see this as wrong; it has been the only way for her to collect any wealth or any prospects for when she’s a full citizen. Its all stashed in a secret nook in a wall in her old city. Not the safest place, but a secret. She’s never told anyone about it, so is pretty sure no one will find it, but … maybe? Also, the people she stole from (only small amounts mind) might be a bit grumpy if they found out.

2) Ka’ta’s father, who she never met, is still alive, and still a slave. He might ask for her help if he ever found her and discovered that she was free / had money.

Ka'ta's people:
Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

1) Ka’ta’s mother is dead now, but she still thinks of her often. Ka’ta’s mother, Sara, was a slave when Ka’ta was born (So so was Ka’ta) and she died without ever earning her freedom, so that she could afford to raise Ka’ta. She taught the druid everything she knew (including the secret druid language) though Sara was a more traditional jungle (wild) druid.

2) Rasha was a maidservant in a nearby house as Ka’ta was growing up. The two became fast friends by talking through the garden wall. Ka’ta misses her!

3) Jarrel, the son of her old Masters, has a bit of a grudge against Ka’ta because the young Mwangi never really responded to his advances. He’s also the only person who has any clue that Ka’ta may be a thief, or that she might have a stash. (He’s not sure though.)

Ka'ta's Quirks:
Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

1) Ka’ta doesn’t know how to read / write. She’s very ashamed / embarrassed about that fact.

2) Ka’ta wants to stop and study natural things that are out of her range of experience living in a city. She often heard her mother go on about the beauties and wonders of nature, and so she is curious about animals and plants and things like that.

3) Ka’ta likes to sing, though she only knows a few songs, mostly ones in Mwangi that her mother used to sing to her. She can often be found sitting somewhere to watch the horizon and singing quietly to herself.

Anything else? I've also fixed her feat (derp).

Could you expand the backstory a little? As it is now, it doesn't really tell me enough about him or his motivations...

Done.

I gave some sample equipment that seemed appropriate but it will be easy to change.

Do you have a deadline for recruitment, or an idea when the game might begin?

Important Announcement!!!

I was first planning to end the recruitment next sunday, but realized that it will be easter. :P So...

Recruitment will close on Thursday 28 at 23:59 GMT, and the game will start on the monday or tuesday after that.

I can't wait.
With luck, the PvP will remain strictly verbal.

I think the GM's opening post said something about playing well with others, so hopefully we don't have to worry about that.

Hey, that's alright. I'll get them: what do you want?

Three silver, sure... hey! Where's my wallet gone!

Just kidding, the halfling said he's got this.

[pushes over a finger of whisky] I hope it's good. Cheers!

To the halfling, where ever he may be!

Hey Fukarth, mind putting your stuff in the profile as well? Would make things easier for me.

Just took a quick look at your sheet, hope that's okay... you might want to choose One of the Tian gods.

Just a thought.

Also, this whisky is good, and the halfling's paying so... [slides over another glass, takes the bottle, pours a drink for Song, Fukarth and himself]

Being from Po Li she doesn't worship one of the Tian gods, but she does have a firm belief in the concept of the will of heaven.

Thanks for the offer, but something like whisky is far to unrefined for my taste.

Song Lianhua wrote:

Whiskey? Unrefined? Don't know how they do it back where yore folk are from, but all it is is refined. At least we're not guzzling white lightning like the dwarven hillfolk make it up in the 'Spin. I swear on Gorum's spiked codpiece that that hooch has a kick like a Silent Enforcer-- not that I'd ever cross over to the Zeke's shadow kingdom to find out myself. And don't get me started on what trickles across from the woods to the north or what the maskers cook up in Raz' or hell what the Varisians find time to diddle with in their caravan wagons. That can get ugly quick.

I'm just sayin' that you should be pleased as hell that smellin' this don't make you want to sick up all over yerself. Unless it does. Then, don't do it on me. Thass'all.

If the halfling's payin', slide it over here then.

You're good. In fact, here's a list of characters who are good to go, in no particular order:

Song Lianhua, Human Bard (Geisha)
Gorvy, Human Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger)
Runk, Halfling Rogue (Scout)
Fukarth Firebread, Dwarven Cleric/Fighter
Varian, Human Oracle
Ka'ta, Human Druid (Urban Druid)
Imperia Ulvauno, Half-Orc Monk (Martial Artist)

If I forgot anyone, just yell expletives at me until I do something.

Going to sleep now, but should have alias and everything up by noon... hopefully.

Artillery Specialist Smith reporting for duty, sir!

Concept is a human gunslinger(Musket Master?)

Gist of the backstory is a gunslinger from Alkenstar who has traveled to Molthune as a firearm specialist. After spending time in the country, Smith has come to believe in the Fatherland and wants to make it his home. If he has his way, all of Molthune's enemies, whether rebel or devil, will fall to the thunder of cannon.

You haven't downgraded to level 3 yet.

"We'll teach ya how ta drink proper yet." Fukarth cheerfully roars at the monk. "Yer only half an orc, so ya can't be all bad."

He glances at the bags the halfling plops on the bar and notices they both look like his. Squinting one eye and closing other, he sees only one, but since the coin is serving its intended purpose, he takes another shot and doesn't object.

Meet Jora Lillywag. A renegade Halfling hitman from Katapesh. Maybe I make him out to be a bit of an ass, which he isn't he's just not mister nice guy and sees killing people as a job like any other.

Background:

Jora thought the heat would have died down by now. It had been over two weeks. Two weeks in the gutters of Katapesh, slugging it out with the low down and dirty ducking and dodging those who knew his face day and night.
Not even Master Fent wanted to see him anymore. Then again who could blame him. Jora had gotten too greedy. And the order had its strict rules. He could be happy that one of those rules was to never kill a brother. But now with a bounty of 500 Dinar on his head his life would no longer be safe in Katapesh, it would no longer be safe in Qadira. Ironically 500 Dinar was what the fat man had promised him for just one job. But he hadn’t told him that this rival of his some high flying merchant was under special favor of the church… of course Sarenrae always forgives, why then did the church keep a secret order of assassins? Jora knew too well what a Halfling meant to humans. As long as they were funny, helpful and useful they were “lucky” Halflings. But should a Halfling ever step over that line… well he did. Jora was never the smartest Halfling, he was never good at music, wasn’t funny the way people like Halflings to be. Of all his siblings he was the one his parents and aunts and uncles bemitleideten. Why he never understood he knew what he wanted and how to get it ever since he was a small boy in the slums of Katapesh. While this lack of compassion did not sit well with most short folk he did well around the big folk, sure he had to adapt from time to time pretend for them as for his aunts and uncles that he was warm loving and joyful, he even sang songs for them. But those who looked beyond quickly saw what this little one had in him. He did well on the streets, and many twice his size feared him One day an old man came to him and asked if he wanted to do something greater in life. Of course he did. They told him it took a special kind of personality for this work. One that did not judge and only acted. One that could act upon a plan but did not overthink things. And one that showed no mercy. But now that he’d waited too long he could no longer get out of Katapesh by ship. Leaving town on a Caravan was easier. But still not easy he had to take what he could get and what he could barter for. A Halfling caravan master had sympathy for him. And said he was going to Molthune. Said there were many Halflings there and that they are treated well and that anyone who joined the army for 5 years gained full citizenship. This sounded nice to Jora, after all killing was what he was best at and as a soldier nobody would ever again blame him for doing so.

Personality:

Jora is who he needs to be. Some would call him an Opportunist, he calls it being at the right place at the right time. It’s the Halfling way of making the best of a situation. It’s is probably the most Halfling part of his personality as he always felt a bit odd among the other smallfolk. But he learned to adopt, and can play the joyful, good natured Halfling when need be. Who the true Jora is he likely does not know for himself. But he knows he lacks something that others call compassion. It’s not that he wouldn’t help a friend, or call someone that. It’s that he does not relate any feelings to doing so. He values reliability and keeping a promise and thus does all he can to do so even if it might not be in his best interest here and now. But a truly selfless act is not often seen from Jora.

Ohh my apologies. Normally I don't do all the work until I think there's a decent chance of me getting in (hate changing a character like 12 times)

The GM said no evil.

Thinking that killing people is a job like carpentry or school-teaching is definitely evil.

PRD wrote:

Good implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of sentient beings. Good characters make personal sacrifices to help others.

Evil implies hurting, oppressing, and killing others. Some evil creatures simply have no compassion for others and kill without qualms if doing so is convenient. Others actively pursue evil, killing for sport or out of duty to some evil deity or master.

People who are neutral with respect to good and evil have compunctions against killing the innocent, but may lack the commitment to make sacrifices to protect or help others.

According to Paizo's rules, your character is Lawful Evil.

Maybe GM Coluber disagrees? who knows...

So, um, yeah... I need another whisky.

Varian orders another round... on the halfling's account of course... hands a glass of whiskey to Gorvy and takes one for himself, downs it in a long gulp... slides the glass over to the bartender for a refill...

I was just trying to be informative.

Some people on these boards seem to have memorised rules or world-lore (i.e. Mikaze) whilst others are quite new to the game. I can never know and it would be rude to assume.

You proposed a character which is clearly evil, I just pointed that out.
Wasn't trying to upset you. Sorry.

I'd contest that as I'd contest that alignment should follow hard rules... In any case have fun gaming!

Taking a sigh, Lianhua picked up the glass full of whisky in front of her. Taking a sip her face filled with a clear sign of displeasure.

"How do you people..."

She took a moment dry coughing up some of the hard liqueur between words.

"Drink this stuff!?"

Taking another slug, I sit down rather unsteadily, "Ish fine. Putsh curly hair on yur chesht."

First game on the boards to start with all the characters completely hungover.

Fukarth nodded sagely as he strained another shot through his mustache. "Grown-up woman oughtta -hic- have hair on her chesht."

Varian hides a smile at Song's obvious difficulty and pours himself another drink. "Best not to sip it like wine, little lady. Just fling it back and swallow before it has time to burn."

By way of example, he puts his glass to his lips and throws his head back, downing the entire glass in one huge gulp, and swallowing it down as quickly as he emptied the glass. "Like that," he says with a momentary bit of hoarseness. "Aaaah, now that's good stuff."

He grinz at Fukarth and waves the bartender over, convincing him, with a nod toward the halfling's purse, just to leave the bottle. He pours both himself and Fukarth another glass.

"Brutes" Lianhua whispered under her breath as she gave a refined smile to her not so refined company. Asking the bartender for a bit of hot water she stood up to make her way to a corner of the bar.

"I'll be preparing some fine tea if you're looking for something not so... straight forward."
