"I'll give it a go."
Oster very carefully examines the switch, then flicks it if it has no trap on it that he can see.

Oster, you manage to disarm the trap
Moving into the next area- K12
A pair of columns carves to resemble a beautiful woman flank a fifteen foot wide alcove in the west wall of this forty foot long hall. A mural of the same woman standing atop a towering pyramid is painted on the wall of the alcove, but it, like the walls and floor of the hall is splashed with blood.
Standing in the room is a creature. This darkly handsome humanoid’s batlike wings, curving horns, and bestial legs betray his demonic origin.
Oster Catus |
Oster sneaks into the room, getting ready to pounce against the creature.
He plans to set up a flanking position to aid Xango.
Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo prepares himself for battle, attempting to recall if he's ever heard of such a creature before.
Kn(Planes): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Memnosyne |
Well, he knows we're here. "Hello, Incubus. A fitting place for you, I see," she says gesturing around to the columns and murals. "Who are you and what brings you here?" She gives him her best smile.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
apparently, it's a really good smile
Oster Catus |
Oster grins as he realises that he has been made, and stands into a more relaxed stance. Though still with rapier in hand.
"A lovely day, isn't it?"

you're not doing so well against this guy, Oster. Are you sure you wanna fight? :)
"But you're a demon. An oddly handsome one, in fact. How is it she can command you? That kind of insolence would rankle me," she purrs. "Might I make you a counter-offer? Allow us to pass and we'll rid you of her presence. In addition, when we return this way, we'll bring you a present from her hoard."
if he doesn't go for it, she'll ask the others if anyone has something they would be willing to donate. As much as she'd like to rid the world of a demon, she isn't quite as sure of their success as Oster is
diplomacy(suggest course of action): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
damn, she's killing diplomacy against this guy!
Daniel Penfold 357 |
The incubus looks straight at Oster and grins
"Now don't try anything funny sonny.
It turns towards you Memnosyne
"So, you I like. Tell you what I'll let you pass, bring me back that b*+'s head and we'll call it even. I won't help you but if you come back without the head then I'll have no option but to attack you. That seems fair to me"
Oster Catus |
Oster simply grins at the demon, and when it makes its offer speaks:
"That sounds pretty reasonable!"
Oster Catus |
"Very true Mem. But I find it's usually safer for us to get shanking, early and often."
Oster Catus |
There is that. Oster is bright but a touch overconfident, and not overly knowledgeable about demons. ;)

The air in this large octagonal chamber is dreadfully hot-the very air shimmers with heat and almost drips with humidity, leaving every surface within shiny with condensation. The walls, floor, and thirty foot high domed ceiling are of polished white marble. Ten feet into the room, the floor rises up in a three foot high step, then again at twenty feet. At the centre of the room,a strange grey flame dances in central firepit. Two smaller octagonal chambers lie to the south and west, while to the east a ten foot square section of wall is a dull grey, contrasting with the white of the walls surrounding it. A single torch in a sconce protrudes from the middle of this gray square on the wall.
Memnosyne |
Memnosyne casts her senses out with detect magic. "Not sure about the rest yet, but does that torch look like it activates a door or something?"
Tatsuo Arashi |
Hmm, for some reason Paizo did not tell me this game had updated. :/
"Yes, it was good that Lady Memnosyne was able to strike a deal with the demon. I fear my magicks would have done little good. I suspect she is similarly correct about that torch in that lighting it will do something. Perhaps at the very least, it will reduce this heat and humidity." Tatsuo waves a hand to prestidigitate his clothes clean, though with the air as it is, he will have to do so again shortly. "Once we are certain there are no traps, we can try to light it, though I suspect we will have to use that odd gray flame in order for it to truly have an effect."
Oster Catus |
"Wait a moment, I'll check."
Oster stealthily advances, checking for traps, magical and mundane.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Calvon racks his brain to see if he knows anything about such a grey flame.

Ugh, doubtful.

[ooc]Sorry for the delay in posting, not been feeling well for last couple of days[ooc]
Oster, you do not find any traps as such, however you do think that there is something off about the firepit. Calvon, you think its possible that the grey smoke and firepit may be part of some kind of summoning device
Calvon |
Calvon relays this information to the group.
"So, we might want to stay away from the grey fire."
Calvon |
Calvon grins at Oster.
"I guess it depends on what it summons and why. Do we chance it?
Tatsuo Arashi |
"Well, there are other avenues that we can explore first. I would suggest we do that if we're concerned that lighting the torch would summon something untoward. Perhaps the Western chamber?" Looks like there's a door there leading elsewhere. Unless we're not supposed to be able to see that?
Calvon |
"Maybe we should just see what's in the alcoves first. We don't want any surprises."
Daniel Penfold 357 |
Ok so the alcoves = K14
A long stairway of polished stone steps descends nearly forty feet before ending at a ten foot square landing with no apparent way onward. The wall opposite the final step depicts a lascivious painting of a beautiful woman, arms outstretched as if to welcome one into an embrace, lips twisted into a faintly cruel smile. A phrase in a foreign tongue is inscribed in gold at the top of the mural.
Oster Catus |
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Oster looks for traps. He knows better than to trust this place.
Calvon |
What language is the phrase in?
Or, if you'd rather do it this way, I speak/read Common, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Goblin, Infernal, Shoanti, Thassilonian, and Varisian.
Calvon |
Calvon tells everyone else what the inscription says.
"So, I think I know what part of that means. The question is what is in her domain and where in this complex is it?"
Calvon gives a big sigh, contemplating the painting.
"Well, here goes nothing."
Calvon prostrates himself on the ground right in front of the painting.
Oster Catus |
Oster stands near Calvon, rapier at ready to intercept any trap or enemy trying to strike at his exposed back.
Memnosyne |
"Isn't her domain lust?" Memnosyne looks around at the other members of the party. "Don't look at me!" she says holding up her hands.
Calvon |

Upon seeing this, Calvon swears under his breath.
"Apparently, there is one more thing I need to do in order to enter Sorshen's domain."
He sits up and looks at Mem.
"You make a good point. A domain is not only a location but also an area of interest or knowledge. Based on the phrasing and the action required, I would venture that Sorshen meant it to mean both things. Prostrating oneself before her, and kissing her feet, which appears to also be required, is a form of devotion, which can be an element of lust."
Calvon turns back to the painting, looking at the figure.
"You can see by her expression that, to Sorshen, lust is a means to control. She doesn't care whether you like her, only that you desire her and show your devotion to her as a part of that desire."
Calvon turns back to the group.
"I'm going to try the act of devotion required. I admit to being fascinated by Sorshen, and all the Runelords really. However, I do this only in the name of exploration and a search for knowledge."
Calvon prostrates himself, unless there is an objection, and kisses the foot.
Sorry for being long-winded but all of that kind of came to me as I was thinking about what Mem said before I responded. Plus, sometimes the teacher in Calvon comes out.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo waits for a few minutes to see if Calvon returns. If he doesn't he then shrugs, "Well, guess we had better go after him," and imitates his actions in the hopes of being reunited.
