Milah motions the others to be quiet and follow as she begins making her way along the path closest to the direction the fire-wielding goblin went.

I'm not sure what direction that was, but I'm no longer pushing for the whole "follow the right wall" thing as a result of its escape...

Savage Rifts RotRwT

You take a few minutes to travel in the way the goblin disappeared, crouching low for those of you larger than a goblin. Only Zarque seems to have little difficulty travelling through the tunnels. Unfortunately, since the goblin was able to travel through the walls of the tunnels, it is very difficult to track him and you find yourselves back at the entrance to the brambles, recognizing it by the makeshift door you had set aside.

"Anyone have any other ideas? If not, we're likely going to have to hack our way through the maze."

Milah sighs, "We should probably just continue as we were before. I'm certain that a warning has gone out by now, and I don't think there's anything to be done about it. That said, let's come at things from the other end; follow the left wall to throw them off?"

MAx HP: 19 | Fort: +2; Ref: +5; Will: +4 | AC: 16; T: 12; FF: 14 | Init: +6

"They may well have set a trap along the path the escaping Goblin took, so your idea has merit." says Moa'Taar to Milah.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

You travel along the western tunnel path, your backs starting to ache a bit from crouching the whole time. As you progress, you hear the distinctive sound of goblin chatter ahead of you. It sounds like a lot of them are gathered in one area. Their chattering seems to be hiding any sounds you make. At least so far. You don't see them, but they appear to be beyond a wall of thorns in front of you. To your left you spot an area that seems to be open to the sea, as through some of the branches you can see open water.

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Milah whispers, "We might be able to use the thorn-walls to our advantage, here. If we get their attention and let them come to us, they might only be able to get at us one at a time. I could possibly hold them off." She pauses, then adds, "Then again, we could bypass them all, at least for now. We could explore more elsewhere and hope they think they scared us off..."

MAx HP: 19 | Fort: +2; Ref: +5; Will: +4 | AC: 16; T: 12; FF: 14 | Init: +6

"There is no use in participating in a needless battle if we can avoid it. Let's bypass them and keep going."

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Going to need some stealth rolls for that folks..., unless you go back the way you came.

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Milah was suggesting going back the way we came and continuing to follow the right-hand wall as before. Seems like there's some support for that route.

MAx HP: 19 | Fort: +2; Ref: +5; Will: +4 | AC: 16; T: 12; FF: 14 | Init: +6

I can't remember if that was my plan or not, but I will say it was all along!

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Fair enough, bypassing them by going back is easy enough.. map updated.

You turn around as best you can and follow the tunnels back to the beginning of the maze and then turn back towards the center of it, this time you find yourself near the clearing with the large hole in the middle, where the sounds of crashing waves and some unearthly howl escapes periodically. You also note that one of the tunnels leading from here would lead back to where you heard the goblins.

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

"It seems like we've got two places to look; where the goblins are, and where they don't appear to be. Let's take the latter..."

Direction indicated by the blue arrow on the map

Savage Rifts RotRwT

You finally get to an open area that leads out of these bramble tunnels. They become more sparse as you are finally able to stand, the twinges in your back reminding you that you are much taller than three feet. Ahead of you, the ocean air greets you with a cool breeze, the smell of sea salt almost refreshing. On a large island stands a small wooden fort. It has two towers approximately 30 feet in height and you can see some tiny green heads peering over. The front gate is closed and you can see four goblins riding goblin dogs talking to a familiar looking goblin that keeps pointing in your direction. To get to this island, it appears you have to cross a rope bridge that spans about sixty feet, but from where you are, it is difficult to tell how high up it is...

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Milah sighs, "I suppose there's nothing for it; we should probably rush the fort, cross that bridge as fast as we can, and deal with the goblins on solid ground." She looks to the others for agreement or discussion before running (4x speed) across.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Moa'taar looks at Milah and shakes his head. "I don't know about you, but after what happened to the seer and seeing an entire goblin fortress, I'm not sure I want to go rushing headlong into that place." He sighs, resting heavily on his good leg. "I'm heading back. Come with us, maybe we can get some soldiers from Magnimar to rush this place. Or more mercenaries in Sandpoint."

Zarque nods. "Goblins few I can do, goblins a lot, probably not."

They both look at Milah, pleading with her to return with them...

Meanwhile...

While Sandpoint may not have been your first idea of a place to stay, for the time being, it was a home, whether for a day or the rest of your life, it didn't matter. You arrived into a mess and were directed to the place where all adventurers go, the Rusty Dragon Inn. There you learned of a recent assault from a large group of goblins and that a group of adventurers were hired to investigate the disturbance. Some of them returned back and a demon was set loose in the process. During all this, the Kaijitsu family lost its patriarch and the young daughter was trying to get her house in order. It just so happens she was the owner of the very inn you are staying at, you just never see her. You have gotten all of this from an older halfling woman who never seems to run out of gossip to share with anyone who will listen.

It is midafternoon when a blond elven woman, looking fresh from a romp in the forest and rather disheveled, hurries into the inn. "Ameiko! Are you here?" When she hears no response, she looks to the halfling and raises an eyebrow. Kenra nods and points to each of you. "They are new here, but they can help you."

"Who are they?"

Take this time to introduce yourselves...

Drek'Thar appears to be a somewhat slim and agile half-orc. He wears humble clothes, of clear Shoanti origin, though it's obvious he's not from Shoanti blood - and he is not shaved. No weapons other than a survival knife can be seen on him, and the rest of his equipment is equally scarce.

He is drinking from a beer mug when the woman enters, and he attends at how he is referred to - with the rest of foreigners - by the old halfling. Leaving his mug in the table and standing up, he introduces himself.

"I am Drek'Thar, of the Hawk Clan! I've heard you might use an extra pair of hands."

Nodding to the elven woman, he speaks to her in elvish.

"Amin naa Sileven. Ner soldier than Taur'ohtar. Lle anta megil arms? Mankoi?"

Elvish:
"I am Sileven. More soldier than ranger. You need sword arms? Why?"

Using this translator. None of them are really complete.

A girl wearing a travelling cloak over a studded leather armor, that had been sipping from a cup of watered down wine looks up after being addressed and introduces herself "I'm Ellyn. I've heard you have been having all kinds of trouble here, trouble I might have the skills to solve." she finishes with a confident smirk.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

"Shalelu.", the elven woman says as you introduce yourselves, looking at each of you and lingering a bit on Sileven's words. "I just got back from bringing one like yourselves back from the Nettlewood. A nasty place with a goblin stronghold in it. We've tracked the raiders there, but it seems that some of them were too strong and we will need help rooting them out and getting to the bottom of the raid. From what we've learned, some woman named Nualia got a local troublemaker to allow the goblins in and start a few fires. We found out that she had been exploring underneath Sandpoint and unleashed a demonic creature. That creature has since fled the area, and some of the people that were helping here followed it. We know that Nualia is holed up with those goblins at Thistletop, we just need to get in there and stop whatever it is she is planning. I've been helping where I can. I can take you as far as Nettlewood to meet with the others, but I will need to know if you are up to the task. These goblins are the top of all the tribes in the area. They won't be a pushover like those Licktoads were."

To keep in light of the story and immersion, I like to keep you up to date on the time and weather every so often, that said, if you want to put up your character's birthday somewhere in your profile, that would be awesome. I believe the first few characters rolled for it, but you may do either.
Toilday, 8 Lamashan 4707, 12:37pm. 41 degrees, light wind. Rusty Dragon Inn.

Milah closes her eyes and sighs, then nods to her companions. We are so close, but I cannot do this alone... Aloud, she says, "I don't want to leave this undone - we are here, after all - but I understand." Remembering the difficulty in finding Thistletop, she does what she can to remember the way back.

Once in Sandpoint, she makes her way to the Rusty Dragon Inn, hoping to wash off the worst of the dust from the journey and possibly take in a drink before looking for others to join her in the assault on Thistletop.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Addendum for Milah...

The trip back to Sandpoint is longer than usual, due to Moa'taar's leg and getting through the thorns, but you make it back about the time that lunch should be served, at least according to your stomach. Moa'taar shakes your hand and says, "I will return to my duties with the Watch, and should you need anything here in Sandpoint, don't hesitate to ask." Zarque simply nods and vanishes in a puff of golden smoke which startles some of the locals, but as they recognize you, they wave and go about their daily business. You find yourself on the street that leads to the Rusty Dragon, guided by memory or the smell of the roast mutton, you aren't sure. As you walk in, Shalelu is speaking to a group of people and Bethana is excitedly listening in, though when she sees you she quickly grabs a bowl and brings its steaming contents to you.

"These folk are going to help you, I think. I'm sorry that Aurica isn't doing well. I hope she recovers soon. Here, eat this, it will help you feel better."

Drek suits down again. "Why don't you two join us for lunch and tell us what to do and think of a plan?"

Wesh raises a lazy glass when the halfling seems to point to him. His companion simply nods. Having been out much of the night and into early morning, the two are trying to shake it off and have only really been awake for the last half hour or so.

It's pretty clear that they are twins, identical in every way from the flaming pixie haircut, to the glowing runic symbol in their foreheads.

"Are these goblins at all connected to the fires five years ago? I mean, this Nullie woman couldn't have picked a better time to start some fires than when she did. But we'll help out, especially if it means going to wherever she released this demon. I didn't even know you could get under Sandpoint. Sounds exciting."

Letting out a yawn, Wesh motions for his sibling to follow, and they both somewhat sluggishly make their way to the groups table, grabbing some empty chairs. Wesh places his half eaten breakfast/lunch combo on the table, finishes of his drink, and continues eating his meal.

His dining manner is actually pretty polite.

"I'm Wesh and this is Wren. We actually lived here before the fires. Came back for the festival but we got delayed on the road. Arrived early this morning, like stupid early."

Milah nods her thanks to Bethana and takes her bowl to the table with the new arrivals; the food stays largely ignored, however, as she looks each of them over. "I will assume that Shelelu has let you know what we're facing; we know that Sandpoint is still in danger, and we are going to the source to try and stop it. I don't know your motivations and, quite frankly, they don't matter as much to me as they might once have. What does matter to me, however, is that you are committed to dealing with this, and will see things through to their resolution."

"As far as a plan goes, we know where Nualia is - Thistletop - and we have a guide," she nods to Shalelu, "to get us there. I'm not sure what else there is to say...other, perhaps, than to thank you for your assistance." She offers a small smile to those assembled, but it quickly fades.

Milah sighs, eyeing her bowl longingly, then returning her gaze to the rest of you. "As much as I would like to sleep in a bed, fill my stomach, and forget about this for a time, I think it would be best for us to get back to it as soon as possible. Who knows what they might be planning, or how our actions might have quickened their pace?" She pauses then, her eyes falling once more on her food. "That said, ten minutes more should not matter..."

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Shalelu nods her approval. "Yes, I can return with you, at least to get you back to Thistletop. Once there, I will do what I can to assist in finding this Nualia and hopefully getting the goblins back to doing what they do best, fighting each other."

You spend the next few minutes enjoying what you can of a warm meal.

Unless you have anything else to do before heading out, we can move on, it will only take a couple of hours to get to Thistletop.

Toilday, 8 Lamashan 4707, 3:26pm. 45 degrees, no wind. Entrance to the Brambles before Thistletop.

The last couple of hours traveling through the Hinterlands of Sandpoint and eventually coming to Nettlewood were spent describing the place you are going and the dangers that could come your way. It was unnerving that just outside of the small town was as dangerous as any wild lands, untamed and filled with things wanting to either eat you, enslave you, or worse. The fact that a goblin strong hold existed out here was probably the worst, other than the rumors of the Sandpoint Devil that keeps appearing, as if out of some child's feverish dream.

The Nettlewood itself was difficult enough to get through, but as Shalelu explains, "When I left yesterday, I marked a trail to get back. So far, the goblins haven't come out to find them or investigate why we haven't attacked them yet. I'm pretty sure they are spoiling for a fight now, after we killed that shaman's pet firepelt."

The Brambles themselves are daunting. Though Milah has been here before, she and Shalelu point out that the giant thornbushes here are over 3 men tall and in some places taller than 4 men. As Shalelu explained, the goblins dig tunnels through them and that is how you get to Thistletop. You stop at the entrance, which Milah notes is marked by a hastily covered thorn 'door'. Shalelu comments, "They know we're coming back. Be on the lookout."

"That means we should not go in without a plan. The first step to make any plan would be knowing what each of us can do." Ellyn looks at each of her allies in turn, trying to judge their general abilities based on equipment and build.

She starts by giving her own introduction "I'm good at sneaking and not to bad with a blade "

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Before leaving Sandpoint:

Drek asks for a couple of minutes and purchases some healing tools/kit. "Mine is currently at the bottom of a swamp, if not eaten by the local fauna already. Weird, story, I might tell you about it one day."

"As I said, I'm a healer" Drek adds, "but I can also ask the same healing spirits to harm instead. My capabilities are limited still, though - I am but an initiate."

Male CG Ifrit Summoner 1 / Bard 1

Wesh mouths a "Wow" while looking up at the towering thorn bushes.

"I could just set this on fire. There's little to no wind, so shouldn't be too hard to control. It would just be like 'whoosh', fire!"

He begins casually pacing along the edge of the bushes, kicking here and there, looking back into the forest every now and then.

"I can do like minor magic. Wren can fight with swords and stuff."

"My capabilities are pretty simple. I put the pointy end in the bad thing, as many times as possible as quickly as possible. The goblins are the bad thing of the moment, right?"

Sorry, my wife and I both passed out way early last night. LOTS of stuff didn't get done yesterday.

Ellyn looks thoughtfully and slightly worried at Wesh "let's put off setting large areas of land on fire for plan C. Hmm, Wesh can you do illusion spells? Something to make a dog or maybe a horse appear or at least have it sound like there is one?"

She looks towards the elf and nods at his words and adds with a small smile"simply speaking, yes "

With a more serious face she continues with the planning "we should, if possible either get into the stronghold without getting noticed or get the goblins to come out. That would be plan A. "

Male CG Ifrit Summoner 1 / Bard 1

"Yeah, no. Not really about illusions. I can daze a few, put a few to sleep, shoot'em with a crossbow. But no illusions."

Mentally adjusting her plans Ellyn comments "still, that sleep spell will come really handy. "

"Mmmh... How many exits does the fortress have? If there's only one way out, we could set an ambush there and snipe everyone coming out" Drek proposes. "That should awake their curiosity and make them investigate."

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Shalelu nods as she listens to everyone's rundown on their capabilities. "Burning the place down would get their attention, but it would also attract more than we want. We can get through the brambles, carefully, see if they've posted more guards in the tunnels. Once we reach the exit, there is along bridge that leads to their fort. That's the only way in or out, unless some of you can fly." Her eyebrow raises at the last comment, but seeing that is not the case, she continues. "The tunnels will be cramped, so you will have to crouch most of the way. Let's see what they've done with the place since we left." With that, she uses her gloved hands to move the bramble door aside and you are greeted with a tunnel in the brambles with thorns and vines daring you to come near them.

Moving through the main tunnels towards the hollowed out areas forces everyone of medium size to crouch, effectively Squeezing. Half movement, penalty to melee, etc. I'm leaving the map open to the areas that Milah and the prior crew explored because the geography hasn't changed, but the content might have...

Milah offers to go first, as she is arguably the most mobile of the fighters.

"When we were here earlier, there was what sounded like a large gathering of goblins in an area of the brambles; we will head there first, as we don't want our retreat from the stronghold blocked." To herself, she thinks, Hopefully they're still there...

As before, follow the left-hand wall until we get to the area NNW (down and left) of our current location

Savage Rifts RotRwT

As you travel along the path, you are careful as you can be, trying not to get caught on the many thorns and tangled roots that permeate the tunnels. You come to an area that splits to the left and right. To your left, you can hear two goblins arguing over something, and to the right, Milah hears one relieving himself on the side of the tunnel. Neither of them notices you, but if you step out into the tunnel, they may spot you...

"I'll sneak closer and take a look " whispers Ellyn and sets out to do just that.
stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Just a note - we're rolling 3d6 for all rolls that might normally be made with 1d20 :-)

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Correct. Remember that we are using modified rules for this game, so we use the bell curve dice rolling, thus 3d6, as such:

Ellyn Stealth: 3d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) + 10 = 20

I also moved you up just enough for you to stay in concealment to make the roll.

Ellyn gets a bit closer and just around one corner, she can see one goblin replacing his grungy shorts and whistling some strange tune to himself. The other two she can barely see, but it seems they are tugging at something during their argument. Either way, as the one moves closer, you know it will spot you soon...

sorry, I forgot. Over a week of play and no one roled a single dice :). I probably won't be able to move myself most of the time, as I am playing mostly using my phone

Ellyn fixates the single goblin reaching for her weapons, mentally weighting if a quick kill would draw to much attention or a temporary retreat would be the better option.

how is your ruling for kills from stealth, battle noises, noticability and stuff like that. More concrtly I was thinking about using a thrown chakram `

Male CG Ifrit Summoner 1 / Bard 1

Wesh gets an idea, and a huge mischievous grin spreads across his face. Reaching inside his pouch, he pulls out a copper wire and wraps it around his pointer finger.

Carefully, he sneaks past the group to just behind Ellyn and Milah.

Sneak: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) + 6 = 14

He listens a little to get the gist of what the goblins are arguing about.

Perception: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) + 5 = 11

"Hey, I could probably make these guys really fight among themselves. We can stay hidden and just watch them beat each other up. Or, at the least, pull the two guards away from the entrance."

He whispers. Though his goblin hadn't really been used in a while, just the idea of causing a brawl through suggestion made him grin like an idiot.

"Also, fire is still an option. We can just say the goblins did it. They love fire."

M Elf Gestalt Fighter/Rogue 1 | HP 11/11 | AC17/T14/F13/CMD17 | F+3/R+6/W+2+ | Init +4 | Per +9+, low-light | arrows 30 durable

As the group seems to have stopped, the elf kneels under the foliage, trying to give his back a break from the walking crouch. "We're inside the plants. Please quit asking to burn ourselves out."

He looks over to the half-orc. "Don't these guys know to take out the solo targets first? Eliminate reinforcements and reduce the number of potential alarms?"

Savage Rifts RotRwT

No worries, I use Google Sheets on my phone when necessary, but I much prefer the actual computer. I try to play as close to 'real' as possible. So if you do things that will make a noise, they will more than likely hear it, but remember one detail. They have a flat number. As long as you can beat it, you're good. That's why I added Players Roll All Dice with Bell Curve Rules.

The two goblins on the left continue to bicker.

Goblin:
"Is mine, I found first!" "No, I take, so is mine. I found from you." "But is my bird. I eat first!" etc..

The other goblin continues his walk, whistling as he goes, kicking rocks on the ground. One rolls right by Ellyn's foot...

Ellyn decides that a retreat is not feasible and thus the goblin has to die. She draws a chakram holding it ready for the moment she can make a clear throw and throws the deadly ring aiming at the goblinoids throat.
attack: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1) + 6 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (1) = 4
thats one of my worst rolls ever, I barely avoided it ricochetting, Xena style and hitting me in the face
