Back from my travels, and slowly recovering.
Garrick Oakbeard
Hope it was a good trip!
DM Carbide
Generally, but intense in spots. We had originally planned a two-week camping trip (to the Pennsic War, for those of you who are familiar with SCA), but then had to take a side trip to Colorado for family matters the middle weekend. The only convenient flights out of Pittsburgh (the closest airport) were to Denver, but we were meeting everyone in Durango, on the other side of the state. There was some driving involved. I would have preferred to fly into Albuquerque and drive from there, but no such luck.

Glad you made it safely! We were out there last summer and the drive between Denver and Durango is a little hair-raising.

Oh, yeah. Found a nice little cafe in Fairplay, though, so there was that.

I'll be traveling this weekend (funeral tomorrow, wedding Saturday), and then on Monday I leave for a workshop that'll run Tuesday-Thursday.
Garrick Oakbeard
Condolences, Carbide.
DM Carbide
Nia, what are your traits?
Apollonia Vigilanium
Favored Daughter (Ameiko Kaijitsu) and Student of Philosophy. They're in her Feats spoiler instead of Traits and Abilities to differentiate them from racial traits.
DM Carbide
Cool.
I was tied up all day yesterday with a job interview--my boss resigned a while ago, and I applied to replace him. I should find out whether I got the job by the end of the month.
Apollonia Vigilanium
Cool! Hope you get it!
Garrick Oakbeard
Good luck!
DM Carbide
A combination of computer problems and cooking kept me from updating this evening. I'll try to get something up tomorrow.
Garrick Oakbeard
No problem, Carbide.
DM Carbide
I have a bunch of people over right now, and will be unlikely to be able to post until tomorrow evening.
DM Carbide
Waiting on the party to act.
Apollonia Vigilanium
Sorry, I've been sick for like a week. I should be back to normal posting now.
DM Carbide
I've had a busy week with work, and will be traveling this weekend. I'll try to get a post up later today.
DM Carbide
I wasn't able to get onto my computer this evening, but will try to get a post up tomorrow.

Unfortunately, that was basically Nia's only trick. Her only other alchemical weapon is alchemist's fire, which won't do a thing to a quasit. We might need to leave this thing here and come back with cold iron arrows/bolts so we can shoot it down.
I wonder if we could somehow secure the door from the other side and trap it in here.
Apollonia Vigilanium
To the southeast is a set of double doors, whose frame is decorated with small skulls in a style identical to the pool where you fought the vargouille.
DM, since the book probably doesn't say, can we say the doors into the quasit room open outward into the hallway instead of inward into the room? That way they could be spiked to stay closed.
Nia doesn't have pitons, but maybe we could use torches to jam up the door hinges? Or Nia could Craft some alchemical cement (DC 15, 50 SP); with a minute to prep she can even throw in Crafter's Fortune. I'll just do a check real quick.
Craft:Alchemy+Crafter's Fortune+Inspiration, DC 15: 1d20 + 10 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 5 + (5) = 39
So that's... 585sp, or ~11.5 times the SP cost. So it would take her (24 hrs x 7 days /11.5) 14-ish hours to craft? Great rolls, but too long to hang out and make right here. Ugh.
Would jamming torches in the hinges work to jam the doors shut for like a day, DM?
DM Carbide
You could certainly try.
Apollonia Vigilanium
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Great DM answer, thanks. ;P
Apollonia Vigilanium
Oh wait! I can add 10 to the crafting DC to accelerate crafting. DC 25 x check result of 39 is... 975sp. That's 19.5x the SP value, so crafting time could be around 8.6 hours instead of 14-ish. That's definitely more manageable, but jamming the hinges with sticks/torches is instant.
Anyway, let's see how this next round of combat goes.
DM Carbide
Great DM answer, thanks. ;P

I went through the threads to see if I could figure out what kind of treasure we're working with. This is what I found:
50gp from Aldern Foxglove
ranseur
MW ranseur-garrick
ranseur x2
silver dagger-nia
magic longsword (unidentified)
MW handaxe-garrick
ragged book (faint aura, holy book of Lamashtu)-nia
Burning Hands scroll (3rd level)-vidar
a bottle that looks like it's made to hold wine (has a label)
Wand of Shocking Grasp (a short length of twisted iron rod with a forked tip)-vidar
DM Carbide
Just a reminder that Tsuto mentioned a quasit in his diary.
Apollonia Vigilanium
As the Heroes of Sandpoint, do we get a better deal than 50% sale value (or might we get a discount on purchases)?
With 50% sale prices right now we're looking at:
50gp
3 ranseurs = 15gp
MW ranseur = 155gp
magic longsword (assuming +1) = 657.5gp
And maybe the wine's worth something?
So 877.5gp, plus the wine if it's worth anything.
Garrick Oakbeard
Um, a +1 longsword would be 2,315 -- so half is 1,157.5.
Apollonia Vigilanium
Oh, right! I was thinking of enchanting cost, not purchase cost. Thanks, Garrick. Even better.
Is everybody cool selling the longsword and MW ranseur along with the other stuff?
Could we buy the Garrick and Nia MW versions of their melee weapons as long as we're here?
Or MW tools, if people don't mind Nia spending group money?
Apollonia Vigilanium
OK, it looks like our group gold after selling everything from the catacombs is 1377.5gp.
So far our proposed purchases are:
Net- 20gp,
Light xbow- 35gp,
40 cold iron bolts- 8gp
=63gp
If she has MW weapons for Garrick and Nia, that's:
-MW rapier- 320gp (minus sale price of current weapon, 10gp)
-MW battleaxe (I doubt she has a dwarven waraxe for sale)- 310gp (minus sale price of current weapon, 5gp)
That leaves us at 699.5gp. It doesn't look like she has cold iron throwing axes, but for alternative ranged options Garrick could also buy a xbow and bolts?
Nia would like MW thieves' tools, but we can wait to see what kind of alchemical or magical items are for sale that we might want to buy first and see if we have the cash left.
Garrick Oakbeard
Rather than buying a new battle axe, might be worth seeing if we could find someone to cast Masterwork Transformation on the waraxe.
Also, an alchemist might have weapon blanch.
In terms of ranged - a crossbow would probably be the best idea, given how expensive a bow built for his strength would be.
Apollonia Vigilanium
Weapon blanch is a good idea. If the local stores don't have what we want, once we get some time Nia can sit down and craft some alchemical items.
Recalculating for 60% sale prices:
50gp
3 ranseurs = 18gp
MW ranseur = 186gp
magic longsword (assuming +1) = 1389gp
Nia's rapier = 12gp
Garrick's dwarven waraxe = 18gp
=1673gp (+wine, when we sell it)
-20 Net
-35 light xbow
-50 heavy xbow
-12 60 cold iron bolts (30 each should be sufficient?)
-320 MW rapier
-330 MW dwarven waraxe
=906gp remaining
Garrick and Ilryan could go both upgrade to Chainmail for 120gp (150-sell price of scale mail), too.
Apollonia Vigilanium
We need to remember Savah owes us 606gp.
We now have 300gp for further purchases.
Garrick, do you want to carry the net?
Garrick Oakbeard
Not proficient, and not particularly dextrous -- but I can try. ;)
Apollonia Vigilanium
Do any classes get Net proficiency? Nia can carry it if Garrick doesn't want to, I just wanted to check since it was your idea.
Ilryan North
No, it's exotic. Some races get it as an option, and some archetypes. Only takes a touch attack, though, so it's not impossible to land with a decent ranged attack bonus.
Garrick Oakbeard
That's what I was thinking - basically, whomever has the dex to throw it. ;)
Apollonia Vigilanium
OK, cool. Nia will hold on to it, then.
DM Carbide
I'm at an SF con this weekend, and will be slow to post.
Apollonia Vigilanium
two tanglefoot bags, one cold iron blanch, and three silver blanches
Cold iron blanch to Garrick?
Nia will take one of the silver blanches
How do we want to split up the tanglefoot bags and other blanches? I guess we didn't strictly need the silver, but it only cost 15 for the 3 of them.
DM Carbide
Dropping this into Discussion to avoid cluttering up Gameplay. Nia, although it didn't matter this time I'm going to rule that you can't hold an action while performing any other actions. In this case, starting to close the doors--even though you were interrupted before you could finish--was enough to lose the held parry.
Apollonia Vigilanium
That's fair, DM.
DM Carbide
The map has what I think are the red tokens in the proper positions as of the end of the second round. Garrick is in what I think is the correct position, hard on its trail. How does that look?
Garrick Oakbeard
Seems reasonable.
Apollonia Vigilanium
Fair enough.
DM Carbide
Ilryan and Vidar, any comments?
