Flo is stunned by the magnificence of the creature. By the time she takes it all in, the others have already had a go at the problem! While waiting to see how Colvyn fairs, she takes the opportunity to admire it further. Poor thing! I'm glad we came, it would have been a shame to let such a grand creature suffer.

Kargas is able to fairly easily slice through the chain, but it doesn't take too much longer for Colvyn to use his tools to unscrew the mechanism and remove the tension holding it closed. The trap falls free from the firepelt's leg. Even untrained, you can tell that the creature's leg is badly broken. It lowers the leg to the ground and tests it a little bit only to jump up in pain. Thereafter it stands on three legs, regarding Colvyn intensely with its large, golden eyes.
There's no chance to really interact with it further before you hear the sounds of a chorus of barking hounds from the north, as well as the sounds of multiple things moving through the forest, crashing through the brush.
You have a couple rounds before they arrive if you'd like to take action or prepare.

Alright, feel free to make any final prep you'd like, I'll move us forward in the mean time.
Kellek picks up 4 more days of trail rations, and a third sunrod so he doesn't need to pack the light spell. He subs out his spells (updated on character page), memorizing the extended version of mage armor which he casts at 9th level proficiency thanks to spending 1 point from his arcane reservoir, giving him 18 hours of mage armor. This probably becomes his standard operating procedure in the morning when he prepares spells.
Later, in the wilds.
Following the sound of the yowls, you push on into the woods, hacking through thorny brush as you go. It takes a few minutes of travel before you emerge into a misty clearing criss-crossed with old tree roots across its rough rocky soil. To the south end of the clearing, you spot the source of the yowls. A black and red pelted feline creature thrashes and twists piteously, its leg caught in a particularly wicked looking bear trap. It appears the trap is anchored by a chain to stake driven most of the way through a nearby tree.
At the sight of your group, the feline slows in its attempts to free itself, splitting its attention between watching you with wary interest and trying to work the jaws of the trap open with its teeth
Take 10 on knowledge (cat) check, yaddayaddayadda.
"Someone's pet, I presume."
At the sound of the hullabaloo.
"Perhaps it would be best to stay out of the way, and see who they are first." Kellek steps to an out of the way section of the clearing and waves everyone towards him. He weaves a bit of magic (minor image) to disguise the spot the party is standing on a clump of obscuring bushes and trees. He kindly informs the group that "It's just a mirage."
This should give the rest of the party a +4 bonus to disbelieve it turning it into a indistinct wire-frame outline that they should be able to see through.

Also Kargas, Guiness, remember you might both be standing in an illusion of thick foliage that you might not be able to see through without either making a Will save, or leaving the "cover". Illusions.

@Kellek: medium sized doggos. The cat is next to Colvyn on the map. BTW Kellek, I'm not clear exactly on your post - are you casting ghost sound now or are you waiting?
----
Kellek recognizes that the dogs are a mixed breed and likely partly wild. They look like they have a nasty bite and strong neck muscles - they could probably pull someone to the ground easily.
From the sounds of crashing further to the north, you probably have 10-15 seconds before the master of these hunting dogs arrives.

While he does that he knocks lightly upon his cumbersome-looking wooden backpack. "My book. Now."
A side panel slides open and out sticks his personal spellbook--"The Life, Times, and Spells of Kellek Zaderan, volume 1".

Doesn't have reach, so: Flo slips around the ogrekin while Kargas swings in with his falchion. His first blow lands hard, shearing bone and flesh and earning a mad howl from the creature. Though the wound is grievous, it doesn't fall. His second swing is met by the ogrekin's spear and knocked aside.

With two powerful blows, first one to the belly and a second to the neck, the ogrekin spasms and collapses. Its eyes still blink, wide and uncomprehending, as its head drops nearby. With three quick and effective blows, Guiness smashes his way through the remaining hunting dogs. Colvyn is left looking for a target, but the small clearing lies still.
Combat Over!
With the hunter and his dogs dealt with and danger averted, the firepelt limps painfully over to lick at each of you that helped out.

"Hm?" Kellek says looking up from a page he is considering tearing out and throwing away. "Yes, yes. Very nice. Good mountain lion."
He pats the firepelt awkwardly.
"Now go bother Colvyn. I'm allergic to cat hair."
Eventually he closes the book and puts it away. He uses his magic to detect magic (Take 10 to ID for a total of 28) and looks for any clues amid the carnage.
