1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Kellek floats slightly up into the air to get line of sight and draws a scroll of fireball. He releases the spell to catch both the Mistress and the demon, but not the rest of the party.
Fireball Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 2, 4, 2) = 22
Spell Resistance check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
The fiery explosion washes over both of the foes, but the effects are surprisingly minimal. The demon doesn't even twitch as fire engulfs it, and it emerges unscathed. On the other hand, the flames seem to ebb away from the mistress entirely. Kellek immediately notices that the flames went through the demon, and he informs the party that the creature is nothing more than an illusion.

Flo's magic suppresses the sense of despair that had taken Colvyn and Kargas. As Guiness begins to climb, the Mistress lashes out with her longspear (leaving a threatened square, so only on the second climb attempt, which would have been successful) and catches him in the shoulder. (25 damage after DR)
Guiness Climb to not fall from taking damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
The impact of the blow causes Guiness to lose his firm grip and his hammer's head falls free from the ledge. He drops back down on the ground, but lands on his feet.
Acknowledging the threat of Colvyn's arrows, the Mistress shimmies her torso around to the northern side of the angel statue (Still 10ft above the ground). She rears back and stabs her longspear straight into Colvyn's chest. (Dealing 35 points of damage)

GM, please double check your numbers to consider Guiness’s cover as he ascends—he shouldn’t be breaking cover until he crests the lip of the platform, and cover blocks AOO (what he tried to do using the statue as he came around behind her the previous round). If he provokes while breaking cover, he should have already finished climbing. If you rule he didn’t have cover from her while climbing, consider that using the hammer shaft should make it a significantly easier climb (maybe not the DC 5 of a rope, but a 14 climb check is not bad to hold on).

No cover in this case because of the enemy's large size (she could pick a square of her space that overhung past the pillar and had unobstructed line of sight on you). I chose the DC for "Pulling yourself up while dangling by your hands" which is DC15, but I think I can relent and say its DC10 because you have the wall to brace on. Feel free to put yourself up on the platform.

It took everything he had, but between the scaffolding underfoot, the power of his magic war hammer, and sheer grit (thanks, GM), Guiness manages to emerge on top of the platform, battered and bleeding from this daunting foe.
Stepping forward into range (five foot step, cant’t quite get into flank with Kargas), he unleashes a full attack on the spear-wielder and her bewildering array of images, hoping to take some down so Kargas’ attacks will be more likely to hit the creature.

She dishes some serious hurt, but damn do we dish it back! Those images though might just be the edge she needs :( Kargas, I think your damage dice should be 2d6 while you are large, not 2d4! GM, if Colvyn can still be targeted by her, Flo will step in front to try to provide cover for him. Then next turn, if he is willing to delay, she will step aside so he doesn't take penalties for shooting "through" Flo. Chose to heal Kargas because it looks like Guiness can likely take another hit, Colvyn can't be healed enough with a CLW to prevent him going down if he gets hit again, and Kargas is on the edge of going down if it is a good or bad hit, so a CLW is most likely to make a difference with him. Convert Weapons against Evil into a CLW, reach rod to give it to Kargas.

Guiness is going to try and find a portion of the statue to stand on/grab onto/lean against so he can get in range to swing at the elusive enemy. Is there a portion of the statue he could stand on to reach her? What do you need me to roll?
Edit: The goal is to get in position to take at least one strike with Dragonfist and grant a flanking bonus to Kargas.
| GM Cellion |
@Guiness: There's no good place to stand unless you get up to its shoulders (which are already occupied) or its wings. Potentially, you could climb part way up and attack while gripping a protrusion with one hand. Since Kargas will be attacking from below, you need to be above and to her east to flank.

Her attention already on Kargas, she notices him reach for his Ransuer. "There's no escape, snake!" she continues, funneling butterflies onto the Half-Orc. With his increased size, they settle across his shoulders and arms.

Gonna go ahead and bot Kargas based on his last implied action:
Kargas drops his hammer and draws his ranseur once he has Flo's blessing of luck. He takes a slash at the Mistress far above.
Ranseur Power Attack: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 16 - 2 = 32 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (5, 2) + 18 = 25
Ranseur Power Attack (luck reroll): 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 16 - 2 = 26 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (4, 3) + 18 = 25
-----
1d20 + 27 ⇒ (8) + 27 = 35
1d20 + 23 ⇒ (10) + 23 = 33
Badly injured, the Mistress focuses and attempts to defensively cast a spell. But her concentration breaks and the magic dissipates before it can fully form. Rather than stick around to eat a flurry of slashes, the Mistress twists and coils and then leaps suddenly into the air. Her sudden, seemingly suicidal movement catches Kargas by surprise and she sails through the air over Flo's head. For a second it looks like she might land on the scaffolding next to the Colvyn statue, but instead she plummets off the side of the tower.

So, would the Mistress’ casting trigger Kellek’s readied action?
Guiness goes over the edge of the statue base, hanging from one hand and dropping to the floor, then hurried over to the side where the Mistress plummeted. He looks to see what has happened—is she flying, floating, or falling?
Skidding to a halt, he sees Colvyn looking quite still and...stony? ”What happened, Flo?” he asks with concern.

Flo reaches the bottom of the tower in time to deliver a pulse of healing as Kargas' rage finally ebbs. His many broken bones and displaced bits socket back into place solidly enough that he's able to retake his feet. (3/64 HP once your rage is over, which is now :P) While Flo was making her own way down, the body of the Mistress had drifted by magic down the rest of the distance and settled on the ground not far from Kargas' own. She lies still, a gaping wound through her chest showing that she's gone from this world.
Up at the top of the tower, Kellek merely flies about, likely not seeing lowering anyone to the ground as his responsibility. Thankfully, dealing with the ratfolk statue proves to be unnecessary. About a minute after being petrified, Colvyn's rocky exterior begins softening. After a few seconds he's returned to his previous, badly injured body!

Once you've regrouped, you have the opportunity to scale the tower once more in peace and quiet to recover the various treasures left behind.

Collection of severed fingers, all of which are still wearing rings (total value of 345 gp)

Guiness is shocked at finding Justice Ironbriar to be the orange-cloaked cultist leader, but he finally places that acerbic voice to the face and is now sure of it. "I suppose that explains why he wanted to rush the trial--couldn't have us tracking down his mistress," muses the stocky dwarf.
"Is there some way we can get word to Sergeant Korim?" asks Guiness? We seem to have quite a lot here to sort through, not the least of which is evidence of the Justice's and the Mistress' guilt for multiple murders. And more of these seven-pointed stars as well," Guiness observes.

She stands next to Kargas and tries to take a peak at the letter. "That may be the most backhanded note I've ever seen. Magnimar and Sandpoint are safe now though. I think we should escalate this to the guards and see what happens. We can't let these cultists go unchecked, especially if they keep 'harvesting' people, but we all deserve some rest. Life has been... draining recently."

”Good thoughts, Lady of the River,” responds Guiness, ”But there is corruption in the guards and at high levels in the justice system here,” he adds, gesturing to Ironbriar. ”Sergeant Korim has gained my trust, and if we are to be fairly treated, it is to her we should go,” advises Guiness.
“I will tend to our heroic leaper,” he concludes, sitting down and pouring Kargas a mug of Dwarven Stout with a pair of CLW potion chasers.

Guiness does the same for Colvyn, saying, ”Excellent shooting up there with the Cultists and the Mistress. Have a drink.”

And because this is as good of a time for it as any...
With the fall of the Mistress, we come to the END OF BOOK 2 OF RISE OF THE RUNELORDS!
From some small murders around Sandpoint, to a ghoulish plague, to beheading a fiendish cult, you're rising up in the world (though the leadership of Magnimar doesn't know that yet). Book 2 took us almost exactly 1 year and about 1800 posts. Considering that this is maybe the longest individual book in terms of how much it covers, I'll say that was pretty fast! Thanks all for keeping the posting pace brisk.

Thanks for steering this ship GM Cellion! :D As our veritable graveyard of former GM's shows, we literally couldn't have done it without you!
"You're right Guiness, I'll head straight for her then, stay put and safe, ok?" Flo says before running off to find Sergeant Korim.

"His wounds must be even worse than they appear," thinks Guiness after the CLW chasers he gave Kargas did almost nothing to heal him. While they wait for the authorities to arrive, Guiness refills Kargas' mug and offers him another chaser, this time of his CMW potion.

"Bravely fought, Kargas," says Guiness, adding, "For myself I was frustrated as she seemed to be able to skate out of my reach with no discernable effort."

"Yeah she was a pain in the ass, I recommend using magic to make yourself big. That's what I did. And now she has a sister? Ugh." Kargas grumbles half-heartedly.
