Rennick's Star Wars PbP - The Saber's Edge (Inactive)

Game Master Rennick

It is a Dark time for The Galaxy. A Year has passed since Chancellor Palpatine transformed the Republic into the First Galactic Empire and seized complete control. And with the enigmatic Warrior Darth Vader at his side, Palpatine extends a grip of order across the Galaxy that already turns to fear.

But the Galaxy is not without hope, and already the seeds of Rebellion being to grow. It started with Captain Raymus Antilles of Alderaan. Banding together with a ragtag band of heroes, scoundrels, freedom fighters and Jedi. Captain Antilles has declared his independence from The Empire and has created The Resistance, the first organized opposition to The New Order.

But The Resistance is still in its infancy, surviving on the edge of a Knife. To bolster his forces and to strike a blow against the Empire, Antilles launches a dual attack upon the Empire. Bringing the bulk of his small forces to bear; Coming to the aid of Admiral Saul Naratha, an Imperial Admiral who has chosen to speak out against The Empire's new tyranny.

At the same time a covert strike team launches an attack on an Imperial prison freighter, hoping to free those locked inside and recruit them to the cause.

This is a Saga-edition Star Wars PbP that's already running. Sadly we've lost some players and I'm looking for two to three people to replace them. Given that the story's already started I've listed some suggestions for character backgrounds that will fit in with the game. I will be happy to consider other ideas of course.

Standard character build, build for Lvl 1.

Background hooks:

Military Defector: You served during the Clone Wars and into the creation of the New Order, but the crimes of humanity that you've seen this Empire commit have been too much. The answers to your dilemma came when you were re-assigned to the ISS Hammer, commanded by Admiral Saul Naratha. When Admiral Naratha declared mutiny against the Empire you sided with him. (Good suggestion for Soldiers, pilots and Military type characters. These characters need to be human)

Prisoner of War: From the start you've stood against the Empire, but sadly your luck ran out. You've been taken prisoner by the Empire and are currently in transit to the Kessel system penal colony, or perhaps somewhere worse. (Good suggestion for Jedi, alien characters, political/social characters and freedom fighters)

Off the Fringe: You've made your life as a Smuggler, an arms man, a bounty Hunter, or some other lifestyle that's seen as less than legal. Recently you've been approached by Dak Varess, a friend and smuggler who has asked you to help The Resistance. Whether your motives are altruistic or material, you've decided to help. (Good for scoundrels and fringe-type characters)

I'm looking to get this game back into a regular swing ASAP so I'll be trying to find people pretty quickly.

Hey, Rennick.

For you only, sir!:

Apologies for our last meeting, but since then I've gone through a mess of RL events - and a car accident that scared everyone I knew. I forgot a lot of my characters, or at the least their goals, and notified who I could recall. I actually had to do some research to remember how we met, which makes me slightly sad. I can only promise you my best foot from here out.

I'd like to put my foot forward to join your game in full faith of staying, and propose this. my draft is very rough right now, so without further ado:

Edmund Ventris, Rogue Jedi. He pleads no part in any organization, but ultimately falls into the "Prisoner of War" background, per your suggestion. I haven't decided the path yet, but it sure won't be any combat-junkie, I can tell you that much! He'll probably focus a little on combat and more on being social. I can craft a fuller background when I get home, as I post this from a mobile CPU.

I really enjoyed your DMing style in the past, and look forward to (hopefully!) gaming with you again.

Hey Rizz, glad to see the interest, same as always gimme a full character background and what not and I'll give it a look, I did like having you in my game so you're definitely welcome.

For Riz:
If you're interested, I took Arikor out of the game in a way that (after a solo adventure) could bring him back to the game if you still want to play him

** spoiler omitted **

I'll have something up by midnight EST.

Rennick:

That would be great! I just need to re-read him, and re-read his background to refresh myself, and I'll see about hopping back in. I'll probably drop my e-mail in the OOC thread so we can go about this little solo-sprint!

Hey DM Rennick I am interested as well. I play a scoundrel in Kalderaans Dawn of Defiance campiagn. The soldier military defector sounds good. I will draft up a background and stats tomorrow night.

I am interested. I will put together a off the fringe type character and get the character statted up and posted tomorrow.

Basic concept:
Duros scout that has lived on the fringes of the galaxy spending a great deal of time traveling between trade route markets and the more remote systems of the Middle and Outer Rim. When asked to aid the Resistance, he agreed as he had been watching the growing shadow of the Empire with great concern; the fact that it was likely going to pay more than the odd jobs he had been doing lately didn't hurt.

Do you have a preferred method of laying out the stats?

Alright, here's what I put together.

Background:

Before the massive wave of darkness known as Order 66, the youth known as Jace Neraal was found to be gifted in the ways of the Force by a Jedi knight known as Alexei Darrakor. In a rush to see the aging boy to a destiny he himself could not fully see, he was brought into the Jedi Order to be educated, for he was gifted in the Force in subtle ways - he did not seem to ever exert brute force with his talents, and it was difficult to see how gifted he was. It wasn't until he took his final tests did one see how he seemed to coax the Force into the softest movements, and demonstrate his skill.

He became a Padawan only a few years before the devastation happened. It was at their station on Mon Calamari when Order 66 was given - his mentor Darrakor had ushered him away at the first sign of the betrayal, and hid him well with instructions and a separate goal: to get out alive.

Jace never saw Darrakor again.

Having ran from the newly formed Empire for years, he hid on planets that trailed from there out, and it was a constant struggle to keep himself hidden amongst the people. For all that time he continued to only use what he had to for survival, which led to a downfall of his powers before that day. However, his luck ran out when he had been discovered by the Inquisitors. Quickly, he was apprehended, and had a vision, that he was aboard a strange vessel, seemingly without hope... and yet, he could not wake up. It was strange, but perhaps, he may wake up, soon...

Now, I have most of the books from a friend of mine, but I've never gotten the chance to play (and I'm a closet SW fan, so I may get some details wrong). I understand some concepts, and I think I understand most of the little changes from base d20 - so I'll leave it at that, and let you review the write-up.

sunshadow21 here with my submission. I used the standard stat array and average + 100 credits.

Rizz - Looks good, but there's a Jedi NPC named Jace Bryar, so the name needs to change. :p

Shadow, and anyone else - Two of the remaining players are playing more skill based characters. Two also seem to be focusing on piloting.

I'm not saying you can't have characters with these themes, One of the Saga systems pros is that I think it can make characters that aren't one-sided. But still I'd like you to keep it in mind in case you want to change up your concept.

I'll look at the skills and traits and see what I can do to make him more of a commando type. I love flexible systems.

Updated to soldier class and minor changes to talents and skills. I did add equipment, mostly weapons, so the total credit value is higher, but still within the range for soldier. I also updated the background information to reflect the martial focus; he retains the piloting and mechanic skills for background, single person fighters, and demolitions.

Right then, I'll name-change soon as I figure some other things out.

I'm definitely focusing on being a Consular-oriented character, to say the least. It's what I used in inspired games, and it's what I'm comfortable with him being. That said, he's almost done, and his name will be changed to Janus Marr.

Sheet is uploading soon, be done in maybe thirty minutes.

Rolling stuffs, don't mind me.:

3d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7 x 100 = 700 credits. Finishing equipment.

Im interested: I'm thinking Clone Trooper gone AWOL.

I have my background mostly done and the soldier is pretty much statted out. His focus is on ranged weaponry, not much of a skill monkey but I did make sure to take treat injury. I will post it tonight when I get home.

Ready to roll - statblock is uploaded for your approval.

Jarl Tehnos:
Born 40 BBY on Fedalle, a wealthy and industrious world of the Core, Jarl’s family served as guardians for an affluent manufacturing clan. As he got older he was groomed to join his father and continue in his line of work but fate intervened, in 23 BBY the Clone Wars exploded and at age 17 he enlisted with the Republic's new army.

Though most soldiers were clones at this point, his training since birth and his status as a non-clone volunteer granted him a surprisingly high rank. For the next three years, he served under General Kit Fisto. His participation in the Battle of Mon Calamari granted him rank almost immediately as the SCUBA fighting was a particularly dangerous mission.

Impressing the General with his bravery, he was assigned to his army again for the Battle of Khorm and helped liberate the world from Separatist rule. With these two daedly battles under his belt, Jarl rose up the ranks quickly proving himself with valor. He liked the Jedi and even had a chance to meet Master Fisto twice who he found to be honorable and wise. The last time he had the privilege to serve under master Fisto was at the first Battle of Cato Neimoidia. The ground assault on the stronghold was lightning fast but proved to be of little avail as the main target for the raid, Nute Gunray escaped before he could be captured.

Jarl was next assigned to General Aayla Secura and instructed to go to Felucia where some of the main fighting was taking place with the Separatists. Despite his rank, Jarl was demoted for the assault which did not sit well with him. Jarl was still on an offensive on the planet of Felucia when Order 66 was carried out. He was shocked by the brutality of the act and confused when he was told the Jedi were traitors to the Republic.

After the battle ended Jarl was next assigned to invade Kashyyyk under newly appointed General Vader. His team was not the 501st and was on the planet more for logistic support than real action. Again the atrocities committed on the wookies’ made his stomach turn. Sick of the infantry grind and what it did to his psyche, Jarl asked to be reassigned to the Imperial Navy as a deck security officer.

Even in the Navy though Jarl knew that what he was doing was wrong. He thought that perhaps not seeing it on the ground he could live with the terrible deeds being committed by the Empire but he could not. On the verge of going AWOL, the answer to his moral dilemma came when Jarl was re-assigned to the ISS Hammer, commanded by Admiral Saul Naratha. Soon thereafter Naratha declared mutiny against the Empire and Jar gladly joined him.

Let me know if you like the concept. I will stat him in the meantime.

Stats are ready but I did not pick out equipment.

You guys never make this part easy on me. So I've decided that I'm going to keep the game at five players total, which means I will only be taking two new players.

Jarl Tehnos and Janus Marr, welcome to the game. Please see your respective notes below.

The respective threads are here:

The OOC thread

The Game thread

For Rizz:
I'm sorry if you take this as a harsh ruling... but you're a Jedi being held captive by the Empire... :p So I'm taking away all your starting gear. You get a drab grey jumpsuit.

For Dennis:
The Clone Army's regular forces were comprised only of Clones. There's only one exception I know of to this and it's a full unit (Rahm Kota's Militia). Now, that said it sounds like your biography could be easily altered to say that Jarl enlisted in Officer training and was a junior officer. (The most well known example is Admiral Yularen in the new cartoon) Doing this would allow you to use your biography pretty much as is, and explains why a younger soldier would be a higher rank over the clones. sound good?

Enjoy and thank you for being considerate enough to let me rework my character.

Hey man, thank you for showing interest in my game enough to put the effort forth.

Keep an eye out please, your submission was rocking and I'm not just being nice when I say it was a tough choice. I run three different PbPs right now, I generally need new players every couple months or so. :p
